I recently purchased the Celestron PowerSeeker 70EQ Telescope, and I am extremely happy with my purchase. This telescope is a great value for the price, and it provides excellent views of the night sky.
The 70mm aperture and 700mm focal length provide clear and detailed views of celestial objects, and the fully-coated glass optics ensure bright and crisp images. The equatorial mount is also easy to use and provides smooth and accurate tracking of celestial objects.
I was a bit intimidated by telescopes at first, but the PowerSeeker 70EQ is very user-friendly and comes with clear instructions and helpful tips. I’ve been having a blast exploring the stars and planets, and I’ve even been able to spot some of the more faint objects in the night sky.
This item did seem a dit complicated to assemble so make sure to have someone with patience helping you. Also be sure not to leave this item out in the cold. My lense fogged up and it hasn’t been quite the same since.
I bought this for my adult son’s birthday. He has wanted a telescope for a long time. He enjoys it and uses it very often. He is anxious to buy more lenses to make his experience even more enjoyable.
In about half an hour it was all set up and I was looking at the moon detail I couldn’t believe it was so clear it doesn’t look real and excellent telescope for beginners great for all the family
They add cheap quality lens with the telescope. And sold the good quality lens separately. Even the 3x Barlow is not working with the existing lens they provide. You have to buy extra lens
just a beginner in astro photography using this scope with my dslr it works good just I am not very good with it there is a learning curve with this setup.
Worked pretty well for a few times, but then all of a sudden it can’t focus.
I’m not sure what happened, I’m not doing anything differently. Maybe a slight bump when I was bringing it inside?
I had ordered this telescope without really reading reviews first. I looked it over, read the features, and figured this would be a great deal. For the price, there was a lot going on with this telescope. It was extremely easy to put together. You don’t even really need the instructions (though I would still use them) it goes together seamlessly. I had it together and looking at the stars within the hour. It’s easy to spot things in the sky, easily lined up and very clear to see through. The 3x Barlow lens that comes with it, really makes a huge difference as well. I would totally recommend this telescope for beginners and intermediate users as well.

Reading the reviews afterwards, I noticed a lot of hate on the cell phone adapter that came with it. To be honest, they must have gotten something quite different than me. It fit my phone just fine (Pixel 4XL) and was easy to attach. It is however, a bit of a fight to get it to line up with the lens, but it can be done, and works quite well. I mean, don’t expect to win any awards for the pics you will take, but they are still quite nice. If this adapter can fit my phone, it can fit almost any phones out there. I am glad I made this purchase, in the short time I have had it, I have really enjoyed. As a person who does nature and astrophotography, this was a fun, and very good buy.
This is a super telescope that provides really good quality views of the night sky. Looks and feels very expensive and my son was thrilled with it when he received it for Xmas.
Putting it together takes a short while but the instructions are good and easy to follow. Would definitely recommend this telescope.
Bought this for a birthday present. There’s a steep learning curve, but we were able to see the Jupiter/Saturn conjunction, including Jupiter’s moons and Saturn’s rings. Great detail for the moon, too
We just need to buy it a larger lense to get better pictures, but we love it! Easy to use and we bought an adapter for the phone to take pics. So worth your money!
This is my first scope and I adore it! Easy to put together, though the EQ mount takes some getting used to, but in the long run it will be more useful if you can persevere. It’s not to heavy or bulky for storing, plus I’ve added a photo of what I managed to capture on my first attempt using an iPhone which was held to the eyepiece using an adapter, great piece of kit overall
We love this little telescope but it was difficult to figure out how to use it. The instructions on it are for assembly only and we had to spend a lot of time online researching it to figure out how to use it. The CD doesn’t give you any ideas either.
Purchased it May 2nd 2013, Got rid of it yesterday June 8 2020. It lasted that long I even let it stand outside for a while. I got rid of it because I decided it was time to get a more advanced one. This telescope was the best $70 ever spe
This is a decent telescope 70eq, though I find aligning the finder scope and telescope has been tedious to say the least.
Nonetheless, it’s been fun and learning. I was able to see jupiter and some of its larger moons, as well as very decent views of our moon as pictured in my review.
Please read this! It will only take a couple minuets!
This is a great telescope for beginners! If you are a professional, definitely don’t buy unless you are looking for something to carry around town. but if you are a beginner that wants to get into astronomy and you have a budget of $100, this may be the telescope for you.
I rate this four stars, only because some of the controls feel difficult to turn, and the parts that you grab to make it turn, are made of cheap plastic. Also the finer scope is crap. I haven’t looked, but I’m pretty sure you can get sturdier parts such as a finder scope.
This is very easy to assemble, I did it in less that 7 minuets. But one last downside about it was that it didn’t come with a bag. Sometimes it is herd to carry the telescope by yourself and you have to find a ziplock bag for the extra parts that you don’t use. You have to take a couple round trips to get everything if you are by yourself. So I recommend getting a bag.
What I also recommend is reading the instructions. Not only of course the setup instructions, but the full manual, (it’s only around ten pages… nothing huge). There is a lot of helpful material inside the manual, such as how refractors and reflectors work and how to setup you finder scope.
I went out tonight and I saw Venus bright and clear, Polaris, Pollux and Caster, and even the shape of a whirlpool galaxy which I believe was M51. Therefore great for beginners and I 100% recommend this product.
Everything was easy to get up however when I first tried to look at the moon I couldn’t get it to focus but I eventually figured out that it worked when I took off the 3x magnifier. I would have given it 5 stars but the weight that it comes with, the screw doesnt work, so I can’t adjust the weight but that’s a super minor problem. Overall it’s amazing I watchthe moon every night and it’s breath taking. Good quality telescope for the price.
Purchased as a gift for a family member and ended up using it mostly for myself..
Given practice and patience, this can generate some pretty awesome views of the night sky, including seeing the rings of Saturn to the very edges of the moon.
Assembly went well, and once it’s up, it’s up.
Would definitely purchase a larger magnifier if I still had access to it.
Would recommend.
I just started this new obsession, and I ordered this one. It’s between 10 to 15 pounds. And I have yet to see a planet besides the moon cause I’m still learning and educating myself. But it’s really breathtaking when you see something so beautiful.
A awesome gift, awesome hobby. I love it!
It’s good just have a lot to learn before using this thing… I have only been able to see the moon so far; not in great detail though. I must be doing something wrong.
This telescope has impressed me. It’s a bit involved to put together the first time but after that it’s a breeze. This ‘scope does not shirk on the optics.
The view are fantastic and the eye pieces are very good. I’ve had this telescope for five months and it has given me a great experience every time.
Unlike some other products, this scope doesn’t provide too much magnification for the main lens. it provides nice, useful eyepieces with the perfect magnification ranges to let you admire the stars, nebulae, and other objects in the sky.
The only issue I have experience is the finder scope is hard to use. I can’t quite line up my eye to look through the thing. LOL
Excellent telescope. However, the eyepieces and Barlow could be better. Other than that, I was able to observe the Moon, Jupiter, and Saturn with ease without the Barlow. Definitely need to invest in better eyepieces and Barlow.
I could not say enough good things about this telescope. Because of the price, I was expecting something cheaply made and flimsy and delicate to where I would have to be really careful with it. NOPE! This thing is definitely worth the price. On the first night, I took it out to look at the moon just to test it out. This shows great detail and it was easy to operate and use the finder to locate the moon without having to more the stand or telescope itself.
As other users pointed out, the stand is kinda flimsy if you extend all the way out. The way I see it though, the quality of the telescope outweighs the quality of the stand. For the price this is a great deal. My friend who has a telescope for which he paid 10 dollars less than this one was convinced to get rid of the other one and get this one. And a couple of other friends are getting it as well. I totally recommend it.
I have been using this since last about 2 months. My observations are as under:
1. Build quality is very good.
2. EQ mount is quit good but has light weight. Has to put heavy object on it to make it stable.
3. Included lenses are good to see moon only. More lenses especially plossl and 2x barlow to be purchases separately.
4. Chromatic aberration is quite visible.
I have been able to see moon and Jupiter alongwith its 3 moons (using extra purchased plossl lenses and barlow). See attached photo of moon taken with my Galaxy A5. Slight Blur is due to shaking of phone.
Overall this a nice telescope to begin with.
Good for starting astronomy as a hobby. Can see Venus fairly well, Mars is an enlarged red dot, but it’s still pretty cool. Scanning across the sky, the quality of the stars actually blew me away. I wasn’t expecting much more than a blurry dot. And of course, the moon looks fantastic. Some of the pictures people are posting along with their reviews doesn’t do it justice. The moon looks AMAZING through this thing.
The setup is easy and simple. Nothing complex. However, the reason I’m giving it four stars is because one of the teeth on the lateral (not sure what to call it) gear that controls the focus was broken off. Thankfully it’s towards the far end, so I never really turn the dial that far to reach it, but still. The handles you use to make fine adjustments on the telescope also don’t really fit that well. But that’s a small issue.
Please be aware, these ship in a box marked with CELESTRON across the side. I bought it as a gift for my girlfriend for Christmas, and when it arrived on the doorstep she received it from the post man and pretty easily could tell what was inside.
Did it ruin Christmas? Not exactly. But the surprise was gone!
Otherwise it works well. She was happy with the gift, and this is a good starter telescope for someone who’s actually interested in the hobby. Not the best, but it’s not made for kids either.
The 70EQ is seriously cool. Tripod fully extended this telescope has a confident pose. Looks way more expensive than what may be reasonably expected commensurate with the price point. The German equatorial mount is itself a conversation piece. The paint on the telescope optical tube is a quality metallic black. I was able to clearly see far off points in detail – no filter, no special lenses. I just ordered a smartphone attachment for photographs and will order a premium set of lenses. With this telescope, I can photograph the moon and use it to search slopes of the front range for Big Horn Sheep.
Highly recommend.
I have for last couple of years been contemplating to buy a telescope and venture out into astronomical world. Did a lot of research and finally went for this EQ mount refracting telescope. For a beginner, it is very important to realize what do you want to do with your telescope? Will it be a pass-time hobby, or a serious one where you get to spend a lot of time and also watch celestial objects and DSO. Since I am a novice, I made a decision to buy the Celestron PowerSeeker 70 EQ and I can say-
(1) It has really great quality Objective (70mm lens),
(2) It is pretty light weight and I have already seen the Orion’s nebula twice on two different night,
(3) It is really great value for money.
However, there are some cons too-
(1) The mount steel stand is not that stable, not good build (however I have attached a heavy bag, to make it stable)
(2) The telescope itself shakes a lot while focusing, a normal for any such cheap builds. need to wait for 2-3 sec after focusing
(3) 25mm eyepiece is great, however providing a 4 mm eyepiece for this 2.75″ telescope is actually not justified. Using the 3X Barlow with 25mm does the job.
(4)The declination and accession knobs are not good quality,
(5) Does not have any azimuth knob (had to manually move when polar aligning.
However, I am not complaining, for a 2.75″ refracting lens within 12K with such great quality I have started learn the night sky. I do wish to upgrade to a reflecting telescope later but had to begin somewhere.
Good telescope, can improve on the stand and would suggest to provide a 10mm eyepiece rather than a 4mm eyepiece.
Great telescope! Especially for a first purchase for someone semi interested. I’m 39 and I bought it for myself. The build of the housing and how the optics attach and the tripod are all of good construction.
The only thing that’s cheep is the “Barlow lense” or adapter or whatever. All plastic and I still haven’t got it to work. The spotter scope on the side is kinda cheep too, but oddly enough it really does the job.
I’ve seen the rings of Saturn with this scope!! A bit faint, but distinguishable nonetheless.
Hope this helps.
~Cheers
High quality built of refractor telescope. At first play after installation we can see a distant unknown stars (still in learning of stars name) using 20mm lens. The installation was not so difficult just about half an hour we could stand it up at our backyard. Most of the construction are made by metallic material such as aluminium and metal. Incredible telescope for this price level. My kids love this telescope. Very fast shipping from US to MY by UPS. Great Amazon.com shipping process for international shipment.
I’ve had this for about a year now and it was my first telescope. I’m very happy with it for the price, and it has been enough to get me to learn about the astronomy and encourage me to save for a quality telescope. If you are looking for a first telescope, this might be good for you. If you already have a first; save your money for a better step up. With a separately purchased 5mm eyepiece, I can see Jupiter’s stripes and 4 moons, and I can see Saturn’s rings. I can make out some other planets, but none of their details. If you’ve never seen the moon magnified before, that is also fun, but the cheap tripod makes it difficult because of ground vibrations and the difficulty of perfecting your aim through cheap controls. I have to realign the view-finder every few months or every time I transport the telescope, as it will generally drift 1-3 degrees off (more than the full view even with a 20mm eyepiece). If this is your first telescope, I recommend using it during the day to look at trees first to learn how to move it and adjust it, and then look at the moon to determine the appropriate infinity-zoom. Because this allows past infinity zoom, too far off in either direction will show you nothing but a black sky even if you are perfectly aimed at the brightest star available (incredibly frustrating especially if you don’t know you’re really 3 degrees off to the side because of the view-finder). Even with a separately purchased 5mm eyepiece, I cannot see Jupiter’s red spot, but I am also 40 miles outside Chicago and suffer from medium light polution.
First of all, knowledge does not come with any telescope. That is on you and if you don’t want to work and study at it, astronomy isn’t for you. HOWEVER, My six year old son and I have had a ball with this scope. Jupiter and its moons are brilliant. Saturn and its rings are fabulous. But you cant see all that with this or any other telescope without the right lenses!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I bought a meade 12.4 and a 6 mm lenses and this telescope came to life. The lenses are the trick!!! I live in Birmingham Alabama and I can see all the planets fine. All that light pollution stuff is bull. That is for people wanting to see far far away objects. If you don’t like to work at something then astronomy isn’t for you. I would talk more but my son and I have to go look at a beautiful view of Saturn. I have my whole neighborhood looking at the planets!!! All this scope needs is a little knowledge, a few you tube videos, and LENSES. THE LENSES ARE LIKE EYEGLASSES, WITHOUT THEM YOU WILL NOT SEE ANYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Okay this telescope is a great way to start looking at the stars and planets and the moon. Its eyepeices are 4mm and a 20mm. The 20mm is pretty good but the 4mm is great the moons craters are as clear as a bell. But then comes the barow lens 3x which triples the power of each one and truthfuly I havn’t figured how to us it but I know if I practice I will get it. I love this telescope but if your in expert on telescope I would not recmmend this because this is great for begginers. I saw great craters and saw Venus and can’t wait to see Saturn and Jupiter. So if your a begginer I would totally recommend this telescope you’ll love it.
I bought this as a christmas gift for my daughter. This was her “Santa” gift. While it is a bit advanced for her age (7), we are both learning alot about astronomy in general, and this telescope in particular. I agree with other reviewers that say the tripod and mount could be better, but there are some hacks we are trying to improve them (namely, putting a weight on the tray or legs to give it a bit more stability – at high magnification the slightest breeze or bump will make it hard to see anything clearly). Also, the barlow lens is pretty useless. I would highly recommend buying a better set of optics, as other reviewers have mentioned. The set up was pretty easy via the “quick setup guide”. I haven’t been through the included CD’s yet, but I’m sure they’re helpful, too. We also bought the “Nightwatch” book, and it has been a big help. From our suburban backyard we have easily seen Jupiter and it’s moons, a faint version of the Orion nebula, and lots of detail on the moon. I’m looking forward to going out someplace away from urban light pollution to see what we can see.
In short, this is a great kit for someone not wanting to spend a ton of money on what might be a passing interest. As with any new endeavor, there is a bit of a learning curve, and you will need to do some research on the equipment, as well as the stars. If you are frustrated with an aspect, there are tons of videos online explaining how to do it right. Take some time and you’ll be rewarded.
Although I am not an expert with telescopes I can safely say that this was a hundred bucks well spent. After a lunar eclipse and the mars opposition I decided that for times like these I needed to have a telescope I really enjoy using it so far (have only had it for a few days) but it is so far very nice with my luck these past few days there hasn’t been a moon but with my small experience with other telescopes like this one it would be best to get a kit with a few more lens and filters the I would recommend the lens because so far this thing is nothing more than a star gazer what I do enjoy about the fact that it is a star gazer is that I can point this thing into a black point in the sky look through and see groups of stars so, so far this is a great telescope and would recommend this to any beginners or even people with experience. This overall would be a good telescope to look at stars the moon planets and some nebulas etc.
This is my first telescope. I’ve had it now for a year and yes it did take a little while to get used to but once I got it, it’s a great scope to get started looking at the moon and planets! They give you a 20mm and a 4mm with the scope to get u started and you have to use the 20mm cause you will see nothing out of the 4mm cause the FOV is so small. However the 20mm is just for you to learn with. Once you feel comfortable with that eyepiece then you can go out and buy a eyepiece kit. For me the 15mm and 9mm is the best to use. You will get amazing views of the craters on the moon and see the rings around Saturn. Plus you can see the red bands around Jupiter and the GRS! Cool scope
OK. First off I am in no way, shape, or form well versed in Telescopes or astronomy other than finding Polaris to find north (that is a skill you will need for amateur astronomy though, so that worked out). I bought this because my 8-yo son has been asking a lot of questions about the night sky during our nighttime walks, but understanding the typical attention span of a 8-yo didn’t want to spend a lot of money.
First…the bad:
-Finder scope is cheap and basically impossible to keep adjusted.with any sort of precision.
-Product comes with 20mm and 4mm eyepieces. The 4mm is pretty much useless and I believe only comes along as a means to claim a pointless magnification potential. Knowing what I’ve learned in the past few days this would have been much better with a simple mid-range 13mm eyepiece as the 2nd optic…not too big not too small. I’ll probably invest in the accessories kit anyway though so…..
-3x Barlow is also pretty flimsy. Now, I’ve read a lot of reviews that say the Celestron Barlow is unusable, and mine was also when I first got the kit. I tried to clean the lens though, and ended up moving the inner piece forward. Don’t know if they’re supposed to move like that, but after pushing mine all the way forward in the Barlow tube it works like a champ. Paired it up with the 20mm eyepiece and got some awesomely nice images.
-Mount hardware in the Declination axis was a bit loose and caused a bit of wobble in the scope. Tightened it up a bit… holds like a champ now and moves very smoothly when making fine adjustments with the slo-mo cables.
The good:
-Super simple to get from box to stargazing. Instructions are very clear every step of the way from assembly, to balancing,to polar alignment. I downloaded the manual as soon as I ordered the telescope to familiarize myself with the different parts so I already had a basic idea of what and where Dec., altitude, & RA were as I was setting up and making adjustments.
-Comes with an Equatorial mount (hence the EQ designation) that when set properly gets you ridiculously close to what you are trying to find….leading to my next point.
-The SkyX First Light software is super cool. Gives celestial coordinates of most major sky attractions, and terrestrial cardinal headings for reference. Using a magnetic compass to orient my telescope and this software to tell me when & where an object will be, I’ve hit every target so far.
-Crystal clear optics. Only really used the 20mm up to now. Tonight is the first night I’ve successfully used the 3x Barlow with the 20mm. Got some really neat looks at Venus which is only about a 1/3 crescent right now, but super bright and clear. Jupiter hasn’t risen yet, but we got a decent look at that one, as well as Betelgeuse, Arcturus, and the Geminids using the 20mm 3 nights ago. Can’t wait to see it paired with the 3x when it comes up tonight if the moon doesn’t overpower it. Speaking of which…beautiful moon view. Too bad it’s so close to full. Not enough surface shadow to really nail the details tonight but got some nice looks the first night out. Can’t wait to see Saturn, but it’s rising too close to dawn now.
-Slo-mo cables smooth and solid. Excellent tracking.
Anyway, for this price you’re gonna get what you paid for which is a mid-quality small beginner telescope. You’re not gonna pull this out of the box and discover new planets, or even zoom right in on the ones we know about. If you have patience, take your time setting up, and learn a bit about your equipment, you will be well rewarded for the price.
Wow! For this price you will get one heck of a telescope. The construction of the tripod base is fantastic. It is very sturdy and well made and should provide no problems doing the job. The telescope itselt is also very well constructed and provides great viewing. The unit required some assembly, but it wasn’t all that difficult. You have to learn about this, take the time to be patient and learn the adjustments, but once you’ve accomplished that you will enjoy hours of great viewing. This telescope is well worth the money.
I’ve received the telescope today. Unfortunately, the sky in Houston is cloudy at the moment, so I only got to do some land observation.
Anyway, it’s a good product, with a good price/quality ratio. If you’re a beginner or an amateur (like me), it’s a great telescope. The body is really lightweight and the tripod also; the tripod is really stable (even if it doesn’t look like it), as long as it’s fully expanded; at half length, you need to be careful, as the counterweight can flip it over.
The eyepieces are pretty decent, although the 4mm is a bit extreme for a beginner’s kit (not too bright, with a narrow filed of view and small eye clearance); the 9mm and 15mm would have been more suitable for a kit (you can find them in the PowerSeeker accessory kit, which also contains some filters).
The diagonal is also decent for this price; unfortunately it’s plastic (I expected more from Celestron); at least the image orientation is correct (erect and left-to-right), so you can use it for photography.
The 3x barlow lens is just advertising; for a 70mm aperture telescope, that kind of magnification is just too much; it results in low brightness and a narrow field; I don’t know how it behaves for celestial observations, but I couldn’t even focus it for land observations; my advice: just buy a regular 2x barlow (Celestron provides a decent one @ 30-ish dollars).
The finder is also plastic, no red dot available, but it does it’s job.
The overall optics is pretty good for this price; a (+) would be that no lens is made of plastic.
The EQ mount also has it’s flaws: the clutches are not really reliable – you won’t be able to tighten the screws hard enough to completely immobilize the axels; The declination setting circle is just too small to be of any use; anyway, you have the slow motion controls and you can attach a motor drive.
Despite these flows I described, I consider it a great telescope for amateurs, with decent optics and a great price/quality ratio. And it’s also lightweight, which makes it pretty portable, despite its bulky look.
This is my first telescope. It arrived with good packaging (double box and Bubble wraps) and on time without any damage. The device was fairly simple to set up even for some one who has never used a telescope before. The first night I used it, I saw Saturn and it was an amazing experience. I could see the distinct shape of its ring. My wife and daughter were also amazed when I showed it to them. The Moon also looks spectacular.I would have have gone with an automatic computer controlled model if I had known how much adjustments you have to keep making to keep the object in view and focus. This is because of earth’s movement and not a fault of the telescope. Despite my numerous attempts I haven’t yet seen any thing using the barlow lense and the 4mm eye piece. They seem practically useless because the amount of light that comes through is so small that it is practically dark. Over all this is a good first telescope. I am planning on ordering the dslr camera adapters for it.
This is a great telescope for those who don’t want to spend a lot of money because they are not sure how “into it” they are. I have seen great views of Saturn and the Moon and I am eagerly awaiting good viewing times of the other planets. You can definitley tell by the instability of the stand and the difficulty with tracking planets that this is a “buget” scope. You get what you pay for…
Well it all started with 10X50 binocular than 20X80 which was good enough to see moons of the Jupiter but I needed more. After a long research, I have decided to go with this budget beginner telescope since didn’t know much about them. I made the right decision. Installation was easy and this telescope does not look cheap. 20mm was good enough to see the rings of the Saturn and the moons of Jupiter clearly but 4mm makes a huge difference, it gets dimmer but I was able to see color of Jupiter with two dark belts and Saturn with more detail but still a single ring around it. It was kind of difficult to focus with 4mm. 3X barlow works only if you insert in the tube directly and the view becomes spectacular with 20mm, but 4mm has a 5 second window and not very clear with 3X. I had a hard time adjusting finderscope but once you get it right it is right on target.I was not able to check the moon, Orion nebula and other planets because they all decided join the Sun this time of the year. Don’t expect much with deep space viewing since this is not a Newtonian telescope. That’s why my next purchase will be a 10 inch dobsonian. I would recommend this telescope for the beginners. You wouldn’t be disappointed.
This is a great scope for the price. It’s simple, functional, pretty decent looking, and pretty good quality (it doesn’t feel cheap like others). Easy to set up (instructions are surprisingly thorough), and straight forward usage tips. As with any telescope, it requires you to familiarize yourself with it before you can use it to it’s actual potential. Patience is key.
Only suggestion would be for Celestron to include an accessories catalog with the product so that you can easily find additional filters, eyepieces and lenses to purchase later.
I’m very happy with this purchase!
Received my Celestron 70EQ and was very pleased with the packaging as it appeared that the “gorillas” at UPS had dropped the box on its end…But it was double boxed so no damage..except for a “bent” inner and otter box.. I was relieved.. AND…Amazaon came through again… with overnight shipping ..as a “Prime Member”
Very nice “scope” for the price.. I have two 4.5″ Newtonians… one Simmons.. one Meade.. and “back in the day” .. as a teenager.. I had a 12″ Newtonian with a 10′ tube in my back yard.. So.. I have some experience with telepscopes and viewing the night sky…
Was looking for a small refractor to take to the desert (my back yard) for night viewing.. did not want to spend a lot of cash.. Found this Celestron…. checked all the reviews.. as usual.. and “pulled the trigger”
Nice build quality, good design.. a lot of telescope for the money.. I like the camera attachment feature..on the tube mount.. and the set up for a “clock drive”.. which I will purchase.. soon.. on Amazon for $45.. also a Celestron product..
I have only done limited “terrestrial” viewing ..so far.. the unit performs.. fine. Will start evening viewing soon… The included software is nice.. dated.. but adequate. I have several “star finder” software titles.. The “SkyX First Light Edition” is a good starter CD..
Would recommend this one for a beginner or occasional “star gazer”.. NOT a “serious” scope..
But you really can’t go wrong for the price.. also like that it has an “actual”, printed owners manual and “back up” CD…
