after going to many garden centres finally orderd from good old amazon item was well packed i have used two of the six packs and mixed with orchild bark and perlite to make a peat free plant soil works well and free draining for my plants will order agai
I have been looking for this product for long time. I bought 6 and I have already used 4 for my indoor plants . I usually mix mine with topsoil and manure . Perfect growth and very happy about the outcome
. Will definitely buy again.
I saw a way of using Cococoir, perlite, wormcasts and slow release fertiliser on Youtube so make a potting compost. I repotted all my houseplants, and used it when I germinate seeds with this mixture. My houseplants loved it and thrived.
I also used it together with soil, and compost made in a composter for potting the summer tubs of flowers. The results were exceptional.
This is great for my tortoise, easy to store as compact and then just mix with water to expand. You get soooo much and it’s fun to do! It does dry out easier than soil but just spray regularly with water and if you put too much water so easy to just squeeze out the excess! Doesn’t smell either and really fluffy
Liked this product , it came in the post ! Didn’t need to struggle with a big massive bag of compost , I just mixed it in the wheelbarrow with my quick grow lawn seed and within a week I had nice fresh grass .
The compost comes in 5 lightweight blocks and one whole pack makes around 9l and you can make it as you need it – For the money it was and the ease of deliver I would buy agai
Look these briquettes of coir. Fun to hydrate them and watch them swell up. Make sure you use a big enough receptacle. Great growing medium for all manner of things, although it can dry out quickly and go powdery so keep it moist.
This product is just great I can do a very Large Crested Gecko tank with just one brick. So that’s 6 changes. Great value for money. It maintains and released moisture so well which is great for maintaining good humidity in our very dry summers. Looks great feels great. Just from the first soak. Leaving it 15/20 minutes and making a lovely bed for a tank. Really recommend this if you’re looking for the above 🙂 on a side note I use some of it in the base of my plants that live slow draining soil and it’s a great hack there too mixed in with potting soil because of the moisture rentio
Bought this for the last couple of years now and love it. It makes my compost go further and I truly believe it helps my plants. Price has gone up a little but to be expected at these times. Still good value.
We use it in our tortoise enclosures and then put it on the garden. Very useful.
Care required when buying this stuff. Particularly if sowing and transplanting.
I use it to make my own growing medium for hydroponics, mixing with Perlite.
Previously bought another make on Amazon to find it had not been screened. Full of lumps of husk and hair which needed removing.
This is very good quality Coir. Worked out better value than the other too.
Probably the best seed starter I used mix with 1/3 number 1 compost and adding to garden in early spring helps with retaining water in the hot weather. Water heavy once a week more in the hot weather 3-4 .
I Use this for my snakes, lizards and invertebrates. you get loads for the price and it last pretty well considering how much i use it!
Used it by itself and mixed with compost. Good results
Seems homogeneous but the blocks weight is between 600-700g
Honestly have no idea if this is good or not. I brought this for our tortoise as this comes highly recommended on all the groups. Dead easy to use just follow the instructions on the paper (do the warm water thing as I have been told people mess it up when they don’t) does exactly what it said, the tortoise seems to enjoy it. So I guess that’s all that counts. Can you get cheaper? probably, but I don’t argue with the people in the know and an extra few quid to make sure the tortoise is safe is worth it all day long
Easy to rehydrate…takes up little space before rehydration. Note..this is not in itself a compost…it has few nutrients, I use it to extend expensive peat free compost. It gives soil structure and aeration.
These are small but useful if you just want to top up
Good value and it works very well. 5 stars all the way.
I put 75% of the water into a large plastic bag, added the coir block, left it for 10 minutes poured the remainder of the water over the top, left it for 10 minutes folded the bag over and turned upside down for further 5 minutes and it was ready to use. I found it to be better and quicker to mix than other similar products.
This is perfect for germinating seeds. Add some perlite or vermiculite and you’re good. The bricks go a long way and are more handy than the big solid blocks you have to chop up. No more seed compost for me.
Best compact soil for houseplants in a small flat, the bricks are easy to store and easy to hydrate when needed for repotting. We use it as a base, and mix in perlite, worm castings, slow release fertiliser and sometimes bark, the plants love it.
Don’t like paying for 1 because expensive that way but easy to keep for next time I need some
I have used this product for nearly 2 years now and have to say I am by no means green fingered but have a houseful of plants that are thriving. Have also grown Desert Roses from seeds which I don’t think will ever get over the shock of doing. Fantastic product, just add approx 2.5 litres of water per brick and it’s ready to use within 30 mins. I always add some perlite and all purpose mix and as I say my house looks like Kew Gardens.
At first I was sceptical that I wouldn’t be able to get so much of one small brick , but it’s actually come out as 10 litre basket after giving a good soak with water
And what else ,tomatoes really likes i
Better value option there (5kg/75l) and no plastic packaging, unlike this one.
In this 6 block version, the film for the individual blocks sometimes has openings (not sealed)
I bought this as a change from the usual compost as I’m adding container shrubs to my gravel garden.
This came well packaged, was lightweight and so very easy to use. I added some liquid feed to the 3 litres of water needed to rehydrate one brick which gives it a boost.
You do need to wear gloves to break up the rehydrated bricks. I used an old pair of rubber washing up gloves which worked well.
I’ve just ordered another batch as my sister took 2 bricks for her tomato plants!!
Easy to use You have to crumble a little bit if not all soaked up but I don’t think that’s really a problem nor really any effort and was surprised how much you get from one block definitely worth the money and will definitely be buying again! I don’t usually leave reviews but I like it that much I think it was deserved!
I have been using these coir blocks for three years. They are light and easy to store and they can be used when needed. As I am now of a ‘certain age’ buying compost and loading/unloading the car is quite difficult, and storing bags to be used ‘as and when’ is also problematical. These blocks are inert, so just add suitable compost for standard or ericaceous plants (I use slow release) and it is light and easy to handle. Coir is not cheap, but can be reused year on year in pots and is very practical.
Excellent value for money especially if you’re looking to change the soil for the majority of your houseplants.
It’s easy to use, all you have to do is add water to it and allow it to soak it up. I initially followed the instructions on the back, however, quickly realised it wasn’t enough so I added more (it’ll dry up eventually). You get a lot per packet. I added just perlite to mine which helped it drain. I’d say 40/50 of my houseplants liked this mix. As a beginner enthusiast, I prefer cococoir to others as it’s not as expensive as others and dries out a lot quicker.
I have noticed over the winter, a lot of my plants have dried out noticeably quicker than in the summer so, I’m planning on changing my soil mix next year and adding in some sphagnum moss and houseplant soil. I think the moss will help retain some water as I’m currently having to water 2x a week for some. The houseplant soil will add some needed nutrients that’s missing from the cococoir, as I’ve had to supplement this using liquid food more than recommended. However, I still will use the cococoir as a base for the mix. I’m still learning so, a lot of mixing is an experiment to see which plant likes which.
If you don’t have a lot of room this 6 pack is great use what you need and the remaing packs are easily stored.
Small and light but this stuff is packed in tight! I needed a blunt butter knife to break the half brick I wanted for my first repot off. Have since used the rest of the brick in a secound repot and both plants a triving in a mix of this and 50% potting soil.
Note: The inner packaging on these is not airtight (would have given 4 instead of 5 for that if not offset by the fact that it’s minimal). Unless you have a very humid flat/storage area they are so dry this shouldn’t be an issue.
I got these because I would struggle to carry a big bag of compost on my own. These are ideal because you just use as many bricks as you need. Couldn’t be easier to use: either submerge them in water until absorbed then break it up, or put the brick directly where you want it then pour water over the top at intervals until the brick has softened and broken down. Easy to spread, easy to use.
I have used it to fill a large bedding trough in front of my new flat and they are ideal – 5 of the 6 bricks filled the full thing and the soil is a nice bright brown colour (not too ‘muddy’) so looks nice amongst the plants. I’m saving the last one for filling plant pots when I move seeds into bigger pots.
Handy, easy to use and store, plants seem to grow fine in it.
