Coleman Xtreme Cooler, Large Ice Box, PU Full Foam Insulation, Stays Cool for Days, Portable Cool Box; Perfect for Camping, Picnics and Festivals
About Us
It all began when we created the portable, gas-powered lantern that illuminated the first evening football game west of the Mississippi. In WWII, our camping stoves transformed the way soldiers ate in the field. We continued to revolutionize the outdoors with our cooler manufacturing in the 1950s, and in the decades that followed we added tents, sleeping bags, lighting, and more.
After 120 years, Coleman gear is everywhere you are: on the trail, by the lake, at a tailgate, or in the middle of a music festival. We’re always around a place where there are friends, coolers, and campfires. So, grab a tent, fire up a grill, and pull up a chair. The Outside Is Calling.

Works well for storing perishables but it is not water tight and will let water in from the top if it gets wet. It does have a plug towards the bottom to empty out but this should come with a waterproof cover.
My fridge freezer broke down just before Xmas so the cooler saved all my Xmas food as it was 3weeks before I could get a replacement, luckily I had a chest freezer to keep freezing ice packs and bottles of water to keep it cool,an electric cooler would be easier though if you haven’t a freeze
It’s a very, very sturdy piece of kit, the wheels and handles are excellent for moving it around. I’ve bought it in anticipation of electricity cuts. I was advised to get a good quality box to store the expensive stuff from the fridge and freezer if the worst happens for more than a few hours. It arrived very quickly. If the worst doesn’t happen I can fill it full of ice cold lager and hang out in the park or at a BBQ with my friends. It’s a keeper.
Lovely quality product. However you have to really fill it up with ice and ice blocks to keep items cold for any period of time. This would make it more practical. Kept butter hard for 36 hrs but wouldn’t think it would last much longer.
Ideal double use as a table.
Should have got same product smaller size as would be more practical for our needs.
Anyone want to swap a large for a small?
This is probably the best cooler box I have ever owned. My grandfather had a Coleman that I remember from my small child hood. My brother is still using it and my estimate it its been used for 50 years constantly. I expect that this new model I’ve got will last as long, its very robust and on the last camping trip it remained cold for 3/4 days which is a great result. Well done Colman a great product once again.
Love this product. Its a perfect size for a family day out. We use it for trips, football tournaments and to get our food when we go UK self catering…it’s also ideal for bbqs at other people’s as you can fit plenty bottles in without taking up too much fridge space. Very easy to clean and easy to manoeuvre.
We bought this as we have a camper and needed to save on food costs on our trips. We were pleasantly surprised at how long it kept food cool. With ice blocks our food stayed cool for 3 days easily without topping up the ice. It could easily last long if ice blocks were replaced. Would definitely recommend
On a recent camping trip in warm weather (25C for 2 days dropping to 15C at night), I fully loaded this with about ice blocks and freezer packs and the rest was cold drinks straight from the fridge. After 2 full days there was still a little bit of ice remaining and the drinks were still refreshingly cold. I don’t think this would stretch to 3 days though.
I also thought it could serve as a separate seat but I wouldn’t recommend this as it didn’t feel sturdy enough.
In short – perfect for a weekend away!
The box works for my purpose, shopping frozen goods and getting them home before they defrost
I have a few ice packs that I place in the box for an hour before I use it and the box stays cool
I have one issue – very difficult to open because the closure is stiff and there is very little to grip to get the lid open. I struggle, so the wife hasn’t a chance
i am hoping it loosens up after repeated use
Just used for a long weekend camping and kept the food cool. Really pleased
Didn’t actually get to use this product as it had to be returned as it was too big for our use. That said if you need a chill box this big, it’s sturdy, it can be handled by one person with a struggle but better with two. Can’t say how fresh it kept stuff but plenty deep enough to stand up a 4 pint bottle of milk. Then lots of room for food and cool blocks. A weekend getaway of food for 4 would fit in easy.
We take this camping and it keeps everything COLD!
This time, we didn’t have time to chill our beers, and they were cold within a day.
We do use cold blocks and a couple of bags of ice.
Wouldn’t change it!!!
i bought it last summer 2020.but didn’t have the opportunity to use. this summer 2021 went camping for 1 week. foods that are still frozen on day 3. very satisfied with product. Highly recommend.
Just back from a sunny 4 day camping trip & I can’t believe we still have ice!! Everything not used is still cold & fresh & some even still frozen. We love it. It holds loads & it fits neatly on one side back seat of our small car too
As far as cool boxes go, this is pretty epic. As other reviews point out, put stuff in that is already cold. We froze as much as possible, including pints of semi-skimmed milk. Rather than use those strange plastic things that you freeze and put in the box, we instead froze 12 small bottles of water and put those on top of everything we wanted to keep cold in the box. The box was full. We expected the milk to defrost after a day of travel, but it didn’t so we had to buy fresh. After five days the fresh milk we added to the box, the food, wine and soft drinks remained cold. Most of the frozen water bottles still had ice. I’d think that you could keep stuff cold for at least six days and this box transformed our camping trip.
Very light weight, looks good, great amount of space inside to chill drinks for BBQ. Very easy to clean. Cup holders on lid great bonus too. Would recommend this product.
Very pleased with this purchase. Holds enough beer/drinks and food for 3-4 days camping and keeps it all ice cold. We managed through the 30C heat wave whilst camping and this was a life saver. Follow instructions and pack it with ice and you won’t be disappointed.
Having been using this box in the current heatwave. The product has performed pretty well. Filled box with drinks on Thursday morning with 3xBags of Ice. The beers and wine still cold on Sunday afternoon !! I don’t think you can ask much more from a Cool Box.
PS: My box was not “wheeled”, by the way. The above description may be another product.
Haven’t used it yet but looks the real deal and massive, didn’t realise it was this big but that’s no issue. Will look forward to using it well worth the money so fa
Was really surprised to find that ice was still in tact after 5 days of use in August.
When used correctly, this cool box is brilliant and will keep everything chilled over a long period of time. A considerable amount of ice will be needed and you need to follow the guidelines/ advice for it to be most effective. But really pleased with this. Well worth the money.
After using a cheaper coolbox that would struggle to keep ice for a full day i upgraded to this coleman 5 day cooler.
Built quality is excellent and quite light for its size although once filled with ice and contents the weight soon adds up.
This coolbox does exactly as it says and keeps ice for 5 days excellent for weekends away camping food stays chilled for the full weekend easily.
If your looking for a quality coolbox for trips away then purchase this trust me you wont regret it.
So… I have had this box a couple of months now, and I have to say, I am well impressed. Over the years I have had many a cool box for camping/picnics/caravaning, some 12volt and others simply using cool blocks. However…. I have never had one like this, On its first use I put in frozen food, chilled food and cans of coke that had been at room temperature. The lid was not opened again for over 4 hours, as we travelled away with our caravan and left it in the car while we set up. The car by the way was hot inside. When I opened the box everything was as it should be, frozen food still frozen, chilled still chilled and the cans of coke were now chilled perfectly.
I must say the frozen food remained frozen until I defrosted it four days later!!
I am well impressed, and on one occasion I even took ice cubes and they were frozen until used two days later.
It also doubles as a table, a seat or somewhere to put your glass.
Best cool box ever.
For family camping, this worked great. Pre froze a week’s worth of food and we were set.
For a lads weekend, fill it with beer and ice and you will drink frosty beers all weekend.
Only used it a couple of times but has been very good. It is quite big so better for longer trips but if I’m only going away for a weekend I pack it with ice then put bubble wrap so there’s no empty space as this allows the ice to defrost quicker. Good price too.
It’s big, it’s really big, do you need it this big. You can pack a lot in this and as you do not want to be shipping air you need to need to want to pack a lot into this. Very sturdy, buy twice as many cool blocks as you first thought just because of the size. Brilliant insulatio
This thing is huge, and it keeps cool for days. It’s like travelling with a fridge, it really works fantastic. Would have liked a different closing mechanism in the lid, but there’s nothing to fault with this one, it’s a tight fit.
We bought this in the hope it would keep food and drink chilled over a 3 day camping trip spanning the Summer solstice. Didn’t it just! Fabulous buy. Using 3 x plastic 1 ltr water bottles frozen in our freezer as cool packs, the food was added, all topped with a bag of supermarket ice and off we set. (Ice on top as cool air sinks) We opened the box frequently over a scorching long weekend to find ice cold drink and well chilled foods therein. On our return home, on emptying, ice that had fallen to the bottom was still frozen. The box serviced 2 adults and 3 children, was opened constantly to access can of drink, milk for teas& coffees, as well as the main food supply. A handy plug in the bottom side meant a quick rinse and easy drain the dry Ieft it pristine, ready for the next trip. Sturdy handles on either side make it easy to carry and if, half way to your pitch, you need a blow, you can sit on it while sipping a cold beer taken from the inside!! I would unhesitatingly recommend this product. 5 stars
Absolutely brilliant, I bought this to go camping with it is the perfect cool box I filled it with food and drink on the Friday morning and on Sunday evening when we came home there was still ice in it, there is a little drain on the side so excess water can be drained out so your food doesn’t get all soggy. It makes a great seat which is quite comfortable and has handy drink holders so you don’t knock your drinks ove
Used this weekend for the first time to attend a music festival. On friday morning I used four ice blocks and two frozen 5L bottles of water, and packed the pre-cooled food and drinks around. There was still ice in the big bottles on monday, Just unpacked everything this morning (wednesday), the ice is all melted but the remaining food and drinks are still really cold. Having tried all sorts of ways to keep food fresh at festivals, frankly I’m astonished how good this box is.
We have now used this for 2 camping trips. It is excellent. I freeze what I can before going and pack frozen food at one end and refrigerated at the other with ice packs. It keeps food cool for about 4 days with normal opening usage for meals. The meat was still partly frozen after 3 nights. The outside temp was cold at night but upto 19 deg during the day. The capacity is great, holds food for a family of 4 for 4 days. The only draw back is carrying the box when full as it is heavy and no wheels. It is sturdy enough to sit on, the cup holders in the top are handy. If water builds up from things defrosting it is also easy to drain.
This box still had ice cubes in it after 8 nights on our last holiday. The insulation is remarkable , I recommend this product for us really handy as the fridge in our caravan is not big enough to hold a weeks supply . For me I don’t want to be dragged around a supermarket on holiday, have enough of that the rest of the year. Happy days lol .
I’ve just taken delivery of this and just need to say that it is absolutely enormous. If you turn it on its end it is probably the size of an undercounter fridge without the icebox. You definitely need to think about where you will store this when it’s not in use. The picture shows it on my red sofa which seats two people comfortably – and I had to remove the cushions to fit it on there! I’ll write a full review when I’ve used it at the end of the month.
Transporting Ice Cream in these large containers is a struggle to say the least, portable freezers are near on none existent. Portable fridges are to small, so what next…
This was perfect, it is big, big enough to put multiple bags of ice in and 4 4L tubs of Judes ice cream.
Will be great for summer parties to filled with Ice and drinks.
I bought this to store cake in when selling a fairs. I had a massive 2 day event on this weekend just gone and everything stayed ice cold for 11 hours!!!! I’m super chuffed with it. We went for the 66l as its was cheaper than the smaller sizes. The top is sturdy(but stiff to open but after few uses I’m sure it will give.) the inside holes 3 medium Tupperware across the bottom and at least 3 to 4 high!!!! With space around the sides for ice packs. Easy to wipe clean and love the valve on the bottom for easy drainage. During the day the kids sat on it and used it as a horse to play on. Everything was safe inside. I’m extremely happy with this item. A great investment.
Very impressive cool box, went camping for 2 nights 3 days, had beers, containers with marinated meats and burgers and milk all inside the box, with a couple of 1 kg bags of ice and couple of ice packs to keep everything cool.
On the third day everything was still chilled to perfection and the ice cubes had only lost half their size to melting. There’s a little drain on the side which meant draining the melt water was very easy. The box has some weight and is sturdy enough to be sat on by a 90kg man no bother. Overall extremely impressed with the box and couldn’t recommend more.
Well made and sturdy. Only downside I think will become an issue is the hinges. They are plastic and don’t look great. Notice they don’t show shots of the hinges in their photos.
I bought the 66L for 77 quid. Used it for a 6 day camping trip. Bought 3 bags of asda ice and put 8-10 ice packs inside. Filled the cooler with frozen foods, eggs, milk.. etc.. very slowly over the 6 days the ice melted but Id say i had left a bag of ice at the end of the 6th day. Surpassed my expectations.
As for the item, well made. When this was filled.. felt fine moving around by the handles. The water can be drained from a side plug. It was sturdy enough for a 12 stone adult to sit on it temporary. Delivery came.on time. Highly recommend this.
I used this box when driving down to south of France to keep the dogs tripe frozen. Make sure you put a layer of ice cubes below the items that you want to stay frozen. another layer of ice on top help. The ice stayed frozen for at least four days but ended up emptying the box to store box. used it on return journey with same results. cant fault it and was surprised how much it will hold the fuller it is the more efficient it works. tripe was still frozen solid 36 hours after placing it in the cool box very impressed. would highly recommend!
We bought this item as our caravan fridge was playing up. What a first class purchase ! Filled it with frozen bottles of water and a few ice packs ready for our 9 days away. These kept the items icey cold for the first 4-5 days. We then purchased 3 bags of ice from the supermarket every other day. No more warm beer wine and ‘off’ milk in our fridge. Great item. Only one negative; it’s a bit on the large side.
Bought this for camping holidays for two adults and two children, 9 & 4. Both kids have severe allergies, so having access to food we know is suitable for them is key especially when shops can be small or distant.
Have used it so far for one trip of 6 days and was very pleased. The cooler is large and needs a lot of ice packs or bags of ice to get it cold initially – if you can load up at home and have some frozen food (sausages, pre-prepped chili, Spag bol, etc.) in that helps. Once chilled it maintains temp well. We used about 10 no-brand freeze packs initially when we left home, then moved to a bag of ice or topping up with four or so ice packs from the campsite each day when they thawed. This kept the temp inside the box cool and we had no problems with food spoiling, including milk/ meat. Butter was also firm so a good indicator of the ambient temp. We had put the majority of the blocks on the bottom so that the food stood on a raised platform. This meant that we could use the bag of ice and allow the cold water to remain in the bottom of the box without soaking food. Some sort of plastic rack or using food storage boxes on the bottom would work in a similar way. Draining water when needed is easy via the valve at the end.
Negatives are that the only way to access the box is via the whole lid being opened and also that the lid needs a positive push down to close.
Build quality is good and the weight of the box alone is fine. I was OK lifting it by myself when full, but others may need two people. That said, it’s unlikely you would buy this box for solo trips.
Fits OK into the back of a SUV/ Estate, but you’d need to check the dimensions carefully for a normal saloon boot.
Really pleased with this. Loaded up with a mix of frozen and chilled food packed out with ice cubes and a few ice blocks made by freezing water in large bottles for a ten day trip. I added a few more bags of ice cubes half way through the trip to top it up but there was plenty of ice still there, particularly the large blocks. With nearly all the food eaten on return there was still ice in there after ten days. Impressive. Temperature was averaging 20 Celcius.
Bought this for a three day festival which was very warm and our tent where the cooler was was like a furnace. On the 4th day when we were coming home everything was still ice cold. There is still ice in it today on day 5 and we were constantly putting more cans into it throughout the weekend that it was chilling from warm to ice cold in a few hours. Honestly such a good purchase. It took around 12 supermarket bags of ice and I had a few ice packs too and around 20 cans to start. Was too heavy to add more but once we got there we added at least another 60 throughout the weekend and it chilled them all. We put chocolate in it and it froze it. Anyway if your looking for something for a festival or a weekend camping trip this is a great piece of kit. A +++
The stories are true ! They seemed too good to be – but they are !!!
Keeps ice cubes frozen for days and it’s massive.
Took it on a weekend away camping we temperatures were mid-late 20s (C!!) and kept it couped up in the boot of the car – no windows open.
Kept the bbq food nice and more importantly kept the beer cold too and there was still ice in it Sunday evening when we arrived home.
It currently resides in my wooden shed and has got 40x500ml bottles of home brew conditioning in mine – and there’s room for another 40 on top !
Good stuff – recommend
This really is a great product. I was slightly sceptical to read the claims of ice remaining in there for up to 5 days, but as we go camping and go to rock festivals, I thought I would give it a try. I am very impressed to be honest…..we pre-cooled it first, then filled it with bags of ice, and loads of frozen items and cold drinks etc, and after 7 days of a very hot Glastonbury Festival, everything inside it was still very cold. The ice had all melted after about four days, but the cold water that remained stayed very cold right up until the end. Quite pricey compared to other cool boxes, but 10 times better in my opinion, we are really glad we bought it, and I highly recommend it !
When i got this i was really hoping it would perform as well as the hype that they posted.. And it was! Brilliant! Minimal opening and i still had bits of ice after 5days of camping! (and i didnt do as it said in the instructions) its like having a fridge in your tent! Saved us money as we took lots of frozen meat with us. It did thaw out but was very chilled. Will be better next time i use it as this was the first time.worked! Loved it.reccomend it! Worth the money!
Really impressed with the speedy delivery , ordered Saturday and arrived Monday (considering its a bank holiday Monday ) brought the 70q cool box and its a little bigger than I inticipated ( it’s actually the same size of not bigger than our outwell tent holdal bag. It’s really well insulated and will is exactly the right size inside to hold all our food for 6 days . Good quality product , the only downfall I can see happening is that the handles seem flimsy expessially when it will be full up with food, will it last out ? Hopefully so ! Overall very happy with this product and the delivery time .
This is a brilliant coolbox. We use it for camping, and can fit all of our food in it quite easily. We fill empty plastic milk bottles with water and freeze them, then put them in the coolbox a day or two before we go…this pre-cools it. Then switch them over to new ‘ice bottles’ when we are packing to set off. Doing this makes a big difference. It keeps food cool for days. There is still ice left in the bottles after four or five days.
What a brilliant cool box. It arrived on time and sufficiently well packaged. Simple instructions for first time use. Boy does it hold a lot of stuff. Easily fits into my car boot but be warned, when it’s full, it’s heavy! I’ve taken this on a travelling holiday to Devon and the food stayed frozen solid for two days, we used lots of ice to help. I put all the frozen food in the bottom and covered with ice – a bit like a fishmonger would! On top we placed ice packs and on top of that drinks which had been cooled in the fridge first and then fresh food. The handles on the sides are sturdy, the drink holes in the top are handy and will take a full sized Latte! We used it as a table on a picnic too. Can’t recommend this product highly enough. Stop dithering and just buy one!
Affectionately dubbed ‘The Coffin’ and also the reason why my husband has banned me from using one click ordering until he has double checked the measurements in future… We took this camping, although we had to put it in a friend’s van or we wouldn’t have had room (my bad!). We used plastic ice packs and tipped two bags of ice on top of all our food, and it kept everything in perfect condition, the ice fully melted by the fourth day, but the kids had been in and out of it more than the recommended time.
We bought this for a two week camping trip to Cornwall, and wondered how we’d ever managed without it. Before we set off we pre-froze some home-cooked curry, 1 litre bottles of milk, cheese, yoghurts, juice, bacon, burgers and anything else we might need. The night before we set off we cranked the home freezer up full, and left a 2 litre bottle of ice in the cool box to drop the temperature inside it as much as possible overnight.
Last thing before setting off, we filled (and I do mean filled) the Coleman with all kinds of frozen solid goodness. Beware! Unless you’re a champion weight lifter you will need two people to lift this box when it’s full. For the first week of our camping trip we were using it as a freezer, with a separate smaller coolbox as a fridge with some thawing milk from the Coleman to keep it cool.
On about day six the curry started to thaw, and we’d created quite a bit of space in the box. I found a local shop happy to freeze as many bottles of milk as I could buy. So, seven more frozen 1 litre bottles of milk and about four bags of Tesco ice kept things cool for the second week. By this point the box was only a 25% full, so the thawing process was a little quicker. The box became both fridge and freezer on week two, colder things nearer the bottom. If the cold water in the bottom got too much it was easy to drain it out using the bung. It was kept in the van with the windows open an inch – cooler than the tent.
General thoughts on the box – seems well enough made, although not bomb/idiot proof. The handles are fine for lifting the box when full. There are useful can holders and (for some reason) a measuring stick as part of the plastic box lid. The hinges are of the scored plastic type and the lid has a small lip to keep it in place. Maybe these parts will wear with age, but seemed OK to me.
Recommended.
