Despite 4 stars and the flaws that i’m about to point out, I’ve come to really like this jacket. Flaws and all, I’d buy another in an instant. It is a very good jacket and I have no regrets buying one.
So. It’s not perfect, but it does exactly as it advertises. It’s waterproof and fits pretty well. Tested in the unpredictable british winter weather. Mostly while cycling on my commute.
I’ve had to cycle through some pretty torrential rain at times. And it’s kept me dry every time.
I usually just throw a fleece underneath and it’s enough to keep me warm. I think mostly in part to how well the jacket blocks the wind. It’s really good.
The hood is excellent too. The peak is fixed and has no wire inside to bend adjust it. But even then I havent felt the need to adjust the peak anyway. These type of hoods that have pull toggle adjusters front and back are always the best in my opinion. They just fit so well, and stay locked down in heavy winds.
For me though, the main downside is the lack of cuff adjustment. They do have velcro adjusters, but it doesnt feel like the cuffs are big enough to need them. My wrists are pretty slim and I wear a small. But as soon as you put on a long sleeve layer (such as a fleece), you’re basically at max cuff capacity. And when trying to add anything else, like a glove or even a watch, there’s little to no room to loosen them. I’ve been constantly fighting in and out of the cuff to check my gps watch on a hike. It get’s pretty annoying.
Another small flaw is the front pocket zips. It feels like they dont go down enough. The pockets are very deep. So when you walk with your hands in your pockets your wrists just kind of rest on the bottom of the zip. Theres a good 2 to 3 inches from bottom of the zip to bottom of pocket. Feels a bit uncomfortable at times. Also, with the pockets starting so high up, when unzipped with hands inside, there are big flapps of unzipped pocket that can let wind and rain in from above your wrist.
Lastly, theres only one waist pull toggle adjuster. Why? I have no idea. But when tightened town you can end up with a big orange loop of elestic cord dangling out from your side. Very annoying and could very easilly get snagged on something.
Despite everything though, I’d still highly recomend this jacket. It does it’s job too well for the flaws to put me off it.
This is a very lightweight, well made, comfortable summer jacket. It’s warm enough and very effective at protecting against wind especially. If it gets wet, the water pretty much just falls off, a good shake and the thing will be dry in a few minutes. Mainly I’m reviewing this because it does such a good job with my morning cycle to work – keeps me warm and dry but not too warm, perfect for this time of year.
I would only say that I am tall and slim, and the medium fits me perfectly – but you might be better off with the large… the medium is very medium if you know what I mean. I have zero regrets buying this jacket.
This is a very high quality jacket in most departments. Waterproof, windproof and surprisingly warm for a lightweight jacket. Excellent fit and finish as always with Craghopper. At around 41-43″ chest size I went for size Large. Found it to be a comfortable fit with plenty of room for a thick jumper. Sadly had to deduct a star because of the length. At 5’8″ I am hardly a giant but even on me the jacket comes up rather short and could do with beiing at least an inch or two longer – six footers can expect a frozen botty on cold days!
Present for my son it is what he wanted and wares it most days. At the price I paid I was a little concerned but it was good, package had from the address labels had been round the block a few times but inside was as good as new.
I really like craghoppers clothing for the outdoors. It seems to hit that target between low/high cost where you get good quality and good performance. I have several items from craghoppers and have never had any problems with them. This particular jacket has been purchased for a, shall we say tougher more vigorous outdoor pursuit. I already have one similar jacket which has been brilliant so expect no less from this one. The jacket itself is really well made with a mesh liner which stops the material clinging to you even the moisture builds up on the inside (which they all do despite the breathability claims) good sized pockets and good quality zips etc. A great product.
Looks good and works well at keeping you dry.
Only drawback is it fits a little smaller than expected, if you plan on wearing a thicker jumper/fleece under it I’d recommend going a size up.
This jacket is great value and very well made. I have the older camouflage and black version. I find it hard to fault. The stretch fabric is well made, it fits really well and isn’t too baggy like most cagoules. There are two very large pockets on the outside, a large inner left pocket which the jacket can be tucked away into, The fit and finish of the hood is exceptional, it can be fitted to your head perfectly by elasticated cords around the neck and on the top of the head. I have found it to be breathable and very waterproof, including the zips, and it wears well. I woud not hesitate to get another, so that I had different colours. This coat has many of the features that the more expensive makes have, for less than half the price. Some famous makes go on at length about the sustainability of there garments, whereas Craghopper also has a lifetime warranty and are made sustainably, too. Get one in the sale and you will impressed, I guarantee it.
