This heater is really good – heats up the top bedroom really quickly and can be turned off from in bed using the remote.
Does the job well but I have to turn the TV up as it is a bit noisy
Seems to be working well, takes a bit of time if heating a large room, but all in all very good. A nice looking slim heater.
Nice slim heater that has your romm heated in no time.
Very pleased, lovely and warm, thinking of buying another one. Thank you.
Really pleased with the tower fan. 1 step to fit the base. Easy to operate and the remote is definitely helpful. I’ve tried low and high standard settings without any issues in fact the lower setting is fine and we have a lounge that is open plan, 20ftx20ft. I’m considering another one for a bedroom. No longer have to hear my whole house when udon one room.
Very easy to use, great for a bedroom, might need 2 for a large lounge!
Can be moved from room to room. Easy to use. Ocilation is a good feature.
I selected this for a room with little floor space. The tower works well and heats the room well. It’s on a smart plug so I can have the room toasty before I get there and means I can also check if it’s turned off wherever I am. When I’m lying on the floor, which I do with my doggo, I’ve noticed that the heat doesn’t get directed or distribute well me. I have found I adjust the fan so that the 1/3 of the heater that is the actual output area is at my level for me to feel it.
Great heat output, not overly expensive if have it on lower setting. Certainly heats up living room 40ftx18ft. Looks good as well. Noise output, a little noisy, glad when off, can’t have everything though.
Best of the bunch, with the Dimplex name. A shame the remote did not have the same symbols on its face as on the heater.
As with all heaters on this type , the fan is fairly obtrusive. But the heater makes up for this with robust heat output.
Thermostat not that accurate. Overall good value for money.
Got this thinking it would save money, which it did when weather was not to cold, but now it’s colder,it’s easier and more efficient to have gas central heating on,which warms the whole house up.
his product will not break and stop turning as the cheaper light plastic ones on the market. it heats the room efficiently and fast.
Lovely heater, we bought this for the office and it works great. Only one little gripe, the heater defaults to 35 degrees when turning on, this would be better if it defaulted to a minimum heat setting.
Apart from that, no complaints
This heater is stylish and would work well in any size room. I am really pleased with it and like using the timer, normally I put it on for an hour at a time but it can be set for up to 12 hours.
I bought this product so I could heat up one room in the evening rather then the whole home.It is very stylish looking, looks more like a stylish speaker than a heater, very pleasing to the eye. Most importantly it heats up a room quite quickly and then can be turned off for periods of time. It is a good buy for the winter months so you don’t have to turn the central heating on all the time. Its very slim so can easily be packed away or stored. I am very pleased with this heater.
Excellent heater to add warmth quickly to a room , I used it with far infrared panel to heat the fabric of the room . The Dimplex provides the warmth in the air. Excellent combination. Thermostat is unusual at first but when you get used to it the system works well bringing up to temperature then shutting off for sometime . Rather than the usual on off as most thermostats.
Very pleasantly surprised!
I read many many reviews of this prior to purchasing and ended up deciding on this because 20 years ago when I worked in Electrical, Dimplex products had one of the lowest rates of malfunction and breakage.
Very easy to use, both from the main unit itself and via the handy remote.
The heater itself is fantastic; heats up a small to medium room quite quickly with no hassles at all. The oscillate function is noiseless and functions as per design.
The heat output is just fantastic, which I’m very satisfied with, and it’s great being able to toggle between the low and high settings.
I don’t use heaters on thermostat mode so cannot comment on this but as a small to medium space heater which is energy efficient, this is a great choice!
This heater arrived well ahead of schedule. It delivers plenty of heat hums quietly and is easy to operate. It is easily moved and by nature is unobtrusive. I have only had it for 1 weekend up to this point and I’m delighted by how it works. Finally it’s beautiful finished.
This heater is definitely my best purchase this year; it’s perfect in every sense..
The lower heat setting is ample for my large lounge area and the higher heat setting is way too hot..
I honestly don’t know why it’s attracted any negative feedback, became I can’t find any fault with it..
Good at heating a large room but noisier then expected after a Which review said it is very quiet. Complicated to set up, and if switched off at the wall socket the thermostat resets itself to 35C!
On the plus side the remote control is useful, neat appearance, and doesn’t take up much floorspace.
So we got a new heater after our old one died. We love this heater. The heat controls on the remote is a great feature too. It can be a bit noisy so you may need to turn up the tv an extra notch but it isnt unbearable. It actually looks quite nice too so it doesnt stand out too much when its out on your room. Its heavy with the glass base so hard to topple over.
A very good and well built heater that holds to a given temperature. The only failings were a very short power lead and a timer that is quite fiddly to set up…
I was looking for a smart looking and quite fan heater to us in my living room as a top up on cool evenings. This heater popped up in my search and having been a user of Dimplex heaters for more than 50 years I was interested. It did not disappoint. Attractive, well designed and very quite in use. It quickly warms the room and maintains the set temperature.
The product exceeded the expectation after reading the less than 4 stars reviews. It is really heating up the attic very nicely. From 10 degrees to 20 in 1 hour. Not too fast, not too slow.
Thermostat shuts the fan off after reaching desired temperature. It will turn itself back on again if it drops 2 or 3 degrees from target temperature. Worth it.
I purchased this to replace an old and expensive to run induction heater for the guest bedroom. Whilst the induction heater took an hour or more to heat the room, this managed it in about 10 minutes without causing a stuffy feel. Whilst it cost several times more than the induction heater, I hope to gradually recover the cost in reduced electricity bills – although this will be difficult to prove. My main worry when buying was the potential noise, but on the low setting it’s acceptable background noise- no louder than a typical hotel room AC. The remote control is small enough to quickly get lost – but a bonus for anyone who wants to turn on the heater from their warm bed on a cold winter morning! It has a built in thermostat but from early experimentation its not very sensitive – i.e. the room gets a bit too warm before it shuts off, and a bit too cold before it turns back on. Appearance wise, its fine, but not as sleek and sophisticated as the manufacturers think it is. Ultimately its a visually obvious and slightly odd looking 1 meter tall post – and the initial reaction of my family was “what is that?”.
When first taking the heater out of the box there is a disconcerting rattle. Nothing else I have ever taken out of a box has done that. So I requested a return and settled for a replacement. The replacement did the same. I decide to try the first on out. It worked fine. Later I noticed there is label that explains the rattle, an anti-tilt feature to turn it off if falls over. A good idea but …
It would have been helpful if a leaflet had been put in the box as well, to make that clear, the manufacturers are obviously aware that there is an issue. The label is not seen as that requires full unpacking of the item and I had stopped at just taking out of the box. Why proceed, the item appears broken.
If the item had not been a which best buy I would have gone for a straight return. A lost sale and no recommendations. A case of how the simple little things can make a big difference.
The heater does look stylish and seems to work well. Its a little nosier than expected but better than other fan heaters. Tolerable as background noise with a TV on.
The heat is given out well above floor level and easily controlled from a distance with the excellent remote. The low level of 1500 W is just right and the extra boost to 2500 W is useful. The instructions are good, we set the thermostat high to avoid turn-off too soon, we avoid the timer. We are very pleased with this fan heater. As to grumbles: only one. There are six control buttons on the fire and six matching control buttons on the remote — but some of the symbols do not match, a confusing design error we had to get used to. We use the heater mainly in our bedroom for short periods when we need the extra warmth.
Chose this after it was a “Which” Consumer Magazine Test Winner, and after reading other reviews.
It is amazing how quickly it heats a room,so much so I bought another one two days after getting this one to heat the other rooms., the reason being I am renovating my 2 Bed Flat and have had the Boiler removed ready for re-location.I fully trust that 2 Heaters will heat it over the colder months.
As it is so quick to heat a room it doesn’t need to be on long ,plus it has a Low and High Heat Setting and the built in Thermostat will turn it off and restart it when the temperature drops about 2 degrees below the set temperature. Its really easy to understand and use and the Remote Control is an added bonus.
Absolutely a fab heater, looks like a speaker, really modern, just love it…. the only criticism I could give is it is so lightweight and a tad noisy but it is fab… bear in mind that when u switch it off there is a time delay, which really confuses my Mum w Dementia but it truly is a modern piece … I personally love it and the remote. Albeit can’t quite get to grips w the temperature control yet. On the whole it’s fab!
Use in a loft conversion for when working in the day without central heating on. Provides instant heat, and heats the room up quickly. Only major negative is the length of the power cord which limits where I can place it.
Overall it’s a great fan heater in a nice package but with a couple of minor flaws.
First it forgets if you set it to oscillate. So when you turn it back on, you have to hit the button again. No major issue, but annoying.
Second there is no ‘fan-only’ mode. It doesn’t push a huge amount of air, so perhaps they didn’t think it necessary. But would be nice if they could have done something to make it also usable as a fan in summer.
Which.? (UK) recommended product and have to agree. It saves me putting the heating on for the whole of the house at 5am in the morning when i can heat just the lounge. Reasonably quiet too. Can’t comment on energy efficiency as i don’t have a smart meter. Money well spent though.
I bought this heater to use early mornings and late evenings on days when it was too warm during the day to need to put the actual room heating on. I found it works very well in our (quite large) lounge for that, but I wouldn’t recommend it as the only heating except perhaps in a very small room. I haven’t found any problems with the remote, and the heater is light enough to move easily but doesn’t topple over. It looks modern and stylish.
Looks sleek, not as quiet as i’d hoped but not deafeningly loud either. The thermostat doesn’t seem to be very sensitive in that it takes a while to turn itself off once the room is warm and a while to come back on once the room has cooled, but it’s easy enough to override with the remote.
I have a chronically underheated room and was desperate to find a heating solution that would warm the place up and not break the bank in the process. This heater was a top pick from Which? magazine and I wasn’t disappointed. It heats the place up remarkably quickly, and thanks to its in-built thermostat it switches itself off when the target temperature is reached. The oscillation function helps distribute the heat evenly, and the solid stand means there’s no danger of knocking it over by accident.
Very impressed –infinitely better than other free-standing heaters I’ve used in the past.
We recently moved into a flat with old-style Overnight storage heaters which work but not as a ‘need heat now!’ solution. We got this as a way to bring warmth into the front room ‘now’ in ‘cold snaps’ when the storage heating isn’t on. Most people think this is a speaker tower and ‘easy on the eye’. The controls are simple, both the remote and on the heater itself. It has done what we wanted, though as yet we have only used it for cold evenings and not as a main heating source (though we didn’t want this!). The oscillate function is quite comprehensive and gives us what we wanted. Noise is ‘quiet’ compared to some of the heaters we have had. Great for our needs.
I read UMPTEEN reviews about the heater before purchase and the variation of opinions was so wide that in the end I had no idea what to expect in terms of heat output, reliability or noise levels.
In a nutshell this is a very good heater and will do a great job of heating an average sized bedroom in under an hour.
It is relatively easy to use (with a bit of common sense) and the noise output is a low hum/blowing sound. Noticeable – yes but unbearable – no. It does cost a fair amount in terms of energy usage and with no eco mode, isnt the most energy efficient on the market.
Looks great. Effective heat output and easily assembled.
I live in a flat and have a living room/kitchen area which is medium sized but can be very cold in winter, Wall heater did nothing much so purchased this and it does the job brilliantly, area toasty warm in less than an hour and thermostat means it stops once at desired temperature, only problem is that it does seem to get quite cold before it starts again more than the 3 degrees below setting.
Bought this tower heater to heat our newly built 5x3metre conservatory and it does not disappoint. Stylish and solid design. Very intuitive controls on the heater and the remote. Even allowing for the echoey acoustics of the yet to be furnished space, the fan is not too noisy. The solid base has a rubber pad under each foot (a nice detail).
Some reviews I’ve read suggest that it might be a bit noisy but I would strongly disagree. I’ve used many fan heaters over the years, including over the door versions and various towers and this is the best I’ve had.
Really easy to install, you just have to put the base on using a large plastic screw (no tools required) and off you go. It has a fairly noisy fan so it’s probably not what you want running if you’re watching the TV, but the upside of that fan is that it heats the room very quickly. There’s a temperature readout on the front, you can set the heater to oscillate left and right, and there’s an easy to use remote control (a single watch battery, provided). The heater also cools itself down when you turn it off, which is a nice touch. Safer, I suppose. It also looks really nice, in fact you’d think at first glance it’s a B&O speaker or something. Much prettier than the wheeled oil-filled radiators I was also looking at.
Had this for a couple of weeks so can’t speak to long term reliability but, for the price, the unit is very well designed and constructed and the remote control is a great features.
Only quibble is with how some of the controls work, for instance:
* When put into standby mode the unit forgets its high/low power and sweep left/right setting. When coming out of standby the unit defaults to low power and non-oscillating mode, so you need to set these every time if that’s not how you want it. Kinda annoying given that mechanical switches would have at least remember your last settings. The unit does remember the thermostat setting in standby.
* When coming out of standby mode with the room already hotter than the selected thermostat temperature, the unit runs for about 20 seconds and then turns off, even when the room was obviously hot enough already and no heating was required. This might be to pull air through the unit and onto the internal thermometer so the temperature reading reflects the room temp but it’s still feels odd when it happens.
* When going into standby mode with the fan & heater running, the unit runs for about 10 seconds before actually turning off. This might be to run room-temp air over the heating element to cool it down before going into standby mode but, again, it still feels odd when it happens.
* By detault, pressing the +/- buttons on the remote does not adjust the selected thermostat temperature, it does nothing. To adjust the thermostat temp by even s single degree you have to press the ‘mode’ button twice (once to get the ‘timer’ setting and then a second time to get the thermostat setting) then press +/- as required and then press ‘mode’ again to confirm the change. This is pretty clunky given that tweaking the temp is the thing I do most often and I personally don’t use for the timer (and if I did I wouldn’t mind if it was de-prioritised in favour of the temp setting).
That said, don’t let these quibbles put you off, this is a great heater and the remote control will leave you wondering how you ever managed to use a room heater without one!
We have been looking for over a year for a stylish, reasonably quiet and efficient heater and this certainly fits the bill. For the price and compared to normal floor fan heaters this is a cracking heater and highly recommended.
Pros
Good build quality and finish. Only small comment is that there is a little play in the base unit but this is not a problem.
Stylish. A modern slim-line black and silver heater.
Quieter than most. Not so much that it is quieter but it hums as opposed the higher pitched noise that most heaters make. I would say it is acceptably noisy rather than quiet and is fine if you are watching TV with the heater a few feet away.
Effective. Using the oscillation mode the heat is spread throughout the room and it soon warms up.
Remote operation. The remote control is simple to use and is very useful.
Functions. Two heating levels, timer, thermostatic control.
Cons
Thermometer over reads by 1 to 2 degrees; probably because it is integrated into the heater. Just take this into account when you set the thermostat.
I spent a lot of time researching what to buy. I was going to get another convection heater but after reading the Which reviews I realised that for the large area we were planning to heat (albeit only on very cold days when the central heating couldn’t cope) we needed something more powerful. I don’t like fan heaters as a rule but recognised that to warm our conservatory dining room quickly for breakfast that is what was needed. However of the 5 Which best buys so many reviewers had problems with the anti-tilting mechanism on 2 of them, another was too small for our massive room and one was reputed to be noisy. Luckily I liked the look of this one so it was duly ordered
So far it has been impressive. It looks stylish, heats the room quickly without using too much energy (I can see that from our Smart meter) and I like the way you can set it to operate for a defined time. Otherwise it might get left on by mistake when going out or going up to bed.
If it was a smaller room I would still prefer the convection heater though.
Taller than you might imagine and certainly not invisible in the room. I use it to heat the lounge rather than put the central heating on for the whole house. It would blend in better in an office but It doesn’t take up any floor space as such and I hide it behind a sofa when not in use. It certainly gets a room toasty hot in quick time and the oscillation mode ensures it fills all corners. It is mildly fiddly to work out how it is set up but if you demand little of it but to heat a room you won’t have a problem. The anti-topple safety feature has never proved to be a problem. It produces a fan noise as you’d expect but no more or less than you would expect. If a TV or radio is on you don’t notice and if you need to doze off the warmth will promote that and the noise is inconsequential.
Just bought this heater, heats up our kitchen in no time! Does exactly what it’s meant to do, not noisy and also looks really good. The remote is really useful, allows you to get it going without having to bend over and fiddle with the heater. I like the fact that you can set the teacher and it will turn on and off once the temperature is reached. Also you can set how long you want the heater to run for, so you don’t have the to worry about switching it off. The oscillating function is brilliant and it looks really cool. All in all, we are really glad we have gone for this heater.
This Dimplex Ceramic Tower heater is ultra-easy to put together (I didn’t need a single 12 year old). Ultra-easy to use. Remote control is foolproof (and being a fool that’s very handy). It’s an ultra-efficient fan heater. Will heat smaller to medium sized rooms up very quickly, larger rooms take a little more time but this slim tower will meet the challenge. It has two power settings (1.5 and 2.5 Kw), the lower setting will maintain the room temperature and is energy efficient, too. I used it a lot over a 2 – 3 week period, it added only about 1 KwH to my electricity usage.
Only minor niggles: 1) fan’s a bit noisy (but that’s probably a feature of it being a fan) 2) thermostat may not show the room’s actual ambient temperature. I was using my heater to heat my lounge, due to no central heating, however the lounge is also where the central heating thermostat is. I found the heater showed a far lower temperature consistently than the CH. When the heater showed 18 centigrade the CH showed 23 – 24 c. When the former showed 21 c. the CH was up at 28 – 30 c. Uncomfortably warm. This may be due to where the fan heater’s thermostat is placed relative to the floor, but I don’t know.
But, this differential being allowed for it’s a great, great buy, and real value for money at 80. If you’ve recently spent 350 plus on a Dyson tower heater eat your heart out (a friend has and this Dimplex is more than equal to the task and 270 less).
Would recommend in a heartbeat to people who need emergency heating, or just want an occasional supplement. Despite the minor niggles, I have to give it 5 stars because I do LOVE it.
I bought this fan after trying a similar Delonghi model. The issues with the Delonghi model were that it had an auto tip over shut off system that kept turning off the unit even though it was still perfectly upright. This was more common on the oscillation.
This unit arrived yesterday and it is very very similar to the delonghi in terms of size, however this feels a little more study and the bass being made of a glass or ceramic disk is much heavier and stylish. It is easy to put together with just the base attached to the main unit with a small plastic nut. The unit has high/low setting and you can put the preferred temperature to reach. It will run until it hits this temperature then auto shut off. It will turn on when the temperature drops again.
The unit is relatively quiet compared to other similar units and much quieter than the smaller units. The heat output is sufficient to heat a decent sized room to a comfortable level (it is -1 outside as I write this review).
The unit is controllable on a small disk at the top or via remote control. Much like the Delonghi the remote control will only operate when the fan is facing you which means you have to wait for it to oscillate towards you before you can shut it off.
Overall I am very pleased with this fan in as much as it works very well as a heater and is relatively quiet. My only quibble is that it cannot be used as a cool air blower like many other units. This would have really made this an excellent heater.
I have a relatively small Studio Apartment and needed to find a heater that I could place in the corner of the room without taking up too much valuable space. I wasn’t at all disappointed with this purchase, it does a good job of warming up the whole room in little time. It is capable of warming my entire Studio within 5 mins.
A couple of things can be improved. Firstly, if you power down the heater at the AC Socket, it will not remember your preferred temperature and will default to 25C. I would prefer if it stored the setting. Secondly, you can’t set a timer to turn it on.. there is only a power down timer. Thirdly, the fans aren’t quiet therefore if you’re a light sleeper and need this to warm the bedroom it might keep you awake. Finally the small brand sticker near the bottom of the tower fell off after a couple of uses because the glue melted by the warmth of the heater. Simply using a different glue would solve that issue.
I’m scoring this 4 stars since the issues are only minor for me. You get a very decent heater for your money, plus it’s very stylish.
A great looking heater can sit anywhere in our house without looking cheap or like a heater even! works really well and the remote is a good idea.I do wish it had a timer in it so you could set it to heat up a space before you entered it say overnight, rather than the timer it comes with which just turns it off. other than that it heats a room quickly and is actually quite quiet. Just wished this winter had been a bit colder as haven’t needed to use it as often as i would have liked too.
On purchasing this product (two infact) I was looking for a movable heat source that was quick and effective. The units do emit more noise than expected but as long as you do not sit on “on top” of them then they are fine. You can control the unit directly from the console on the front or via the small credit card sized remote control (battery included).
The unit can oscillate if desired to help spread out heat more quickly and has a low or high heat setting. The user can set the heater to go off at a pre-determined temperature setting and the heater will automatically come on and go off to maintain that temperature. Alternatively the user may set the heater to come on for a set period of time (increments of 1 hour – up to something like 12 hours) at which point it will switch itself off. If the user selects a time setting please note the unit will stay on constantly until the time set has been achieved.
Please note that when you turn the heater off it will seemingly continue to run….do not worry this is a deliberate design feature whereby the fans continue to run for approx 10 seconds without heat to bring the unit’s heat down before shutting down.
The unit is a very elegant yet sturdy design and looks more like a free standing speaker than a heater, with a classy heavy black glass circular base for stability. All in all an excellent product with a super smart design thrown in for good measure. I would recommend this heater to a friend.
We first saw this heater in use in a restaurant and thought ‘what a great design’. I bought two to heat a room that is only used for two short periods each week. They could be switched on by a time switch – I thought. NO THEY CAN’T !. They do everything it says on the tin, but they revert to ‘standby’ when the power goes off. I checked with Dimplex and they confirm that they cannot be used with time switches. This is a great heater with many neat features but do not buy it if you need to switch it on remotely.
Bought it based on the reviews but mainly because of how it looks, it’s really smart and looks fantastic. Friend thought it was a large standing speaker. The touch screen buttons are really good and the remote control is a nice touch. Can be a bit tricky to set it to a particular temperature but if you’re happy for it to fluctuate around a bit it’s no big deal. Is a bit noisy when it’s on, but does kick out a fair bit of heat. Loses a mark for noise but design and ease of use make up for the rest.
Dimplex DXSTG25 Studio G Ceramic Tower Heater, 2.5 Kilowatt
It is nice to know that I no longer have to spend a cold night in my room, wrapped up in blankets, pyjamas, thick socks and a thick hoody. I switch the new heater on and you instantly feel that chill disappear.
When it first arrived, my dad assumed it was a speaker due to the slick, black look, the tall, thin appearance, with glass base, lcd screen and remote control.
So easy to set up too. Plug it in and, regardless of whether you choose to operate it manually or via the remote control, switch it on. You can choose a high or low setting, depending on how quickly you want to heat up a room, set it to oscillate from side to side, set a timing on it so that it may go off after say 2 hours or set a maximum temperature so that once it hits 22 degrees, it will switch itself off. It is the best designed heater I have ever seen and beautiful too.
