I love this label maker. I know there are more inexpensive options from the same brand but this one gets it all done! Love the quality of the sticker, the print, and the options for fonts and symbols. 5 over 5

I got this to label up coins in hard plastic covers, everything about the printer is great however the labels peel away after a while, but I suppose it’s because the surface I’m sticking it to is non porous

Keys feel a bit close, but any mistakes are easily corrected prior to printing labels. Using a stylus may give more accurate typing.

Labler worked well with supplied cassette, but had problems with a faulty D1 Durable cassette, however even on a Bank Holiday Dymo was responsive and supplied a new cassette FOC.
    Excellent back up service.

I love this product, it is absolutely brilliant to keep every cupboard properly labelled and tidy.
Live that you can buy different colours for your labels and customise the your font size as well as the direction of your text.

I haven’t even looked at the user manual! Intuitive to use; easy to set up and prints clear labels. Just what I needed for a myriad of plugs and cables to various electrical items in my office. Haven’t found how to deselect Caps lock yet – maybe I should read the manual!!

Delighted with this. Expensive, but seems durable and should last a long time.

Being able to use it with a PC/Mac adds more functionality, as the ability to print images too.

The unit works well but my battery died after a short while and it took me a while to work out it was the battery and not the charger. The batteries are expensive so I bought another printer for a few pounds more and now I have a spare printer and charger if something else goes wrong.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis machine accepts 6mm, 9mm and 12mm wide Dymo Label cassettes. The machine comes complete with the rechargeable battery, charger and 3m long 12mm black text on white tape cassette. After installing the rechargeable battery and connecting the charger the machine counts down 10 minutes after which printing can commence. It’s easy the enter in text and select formatting options. There are a wide range of tape colour combinations available.

I just love it. It is straight forward to operate as an independent device. I have not connected it to a PC so I cannot comment on that. The dual UK and EU plugs in the package come handy when needed. It has worked wonders in helping me get organized. Even if it is not marketed as such, you can even use the durable labels in naming your cables on your switch/patch panel or under your desk/workstation.

I have been wanting a label maker for ages and I am not disappointed with this one.
It works great standalone or when you connect it to your computer.
The Dymo software works great, at least on my Mac (haven’t tried Windows).
    I can’t fault it.

I’ve only ever used this machine with a PC or MAC, works really well with the software which you can download for free. I had previously used this model (420P) for labelling equipment at work 3 years ago so I knew it was reliable.

Paid a little more to get this one, but it has some big advantages:
    1) The re-chargeable battery lasts for ages. It seems energy use is a problem with many label printers but no problem here.
    2) The digital screen is very easy to use.
    3) Good flexibility with size of font, italics, bold, symbols etc.

I have not needed to use the computer software it also comes with, but no doubt others will have use for that.

We have two of these and the first we bought was a little clunky when you are trying to type the label on the machine. This one is cleaver as you can use your lap top to type out the labels. the only reason I did not give it 5 stars was the software is no easy to use.

I have labeled half of the electrical cables and Ethernet cables in my home and all over the place. Great thing is you can plug it directly to your PC and print whatever you want from there which speeds up the whole process. Even automatic numbering is there.

Golden Review Award: 12 From Our UsersFast and easy to use with great results (once you’ve had a play to find the fonts and sizes that print best). It looks like it has a touch screen, but it’s just a soft plastic sheet hiding real buttons which is a bit of a swizz. I’d be happier with normal buttons like its cheaper sibling. The screen doesn’t light up either (as Dymo product images would have you believe) so it’s quite hard reading the smaller information – type size especially…

But it’s its connectivity to a computer that sets it apart.

The desktop software works well – but it’s more Word than InDesign so the controls are pretty basic. You can’t access proper weights and italics from font families, it just lists single regular weights and then allows you to choose
a faux-italic or bold but this is probably ok given the unit’s resolution shortcomings.

Type is mostly jaggy and it can’t really handle anything intricate. You can find sizes and fonts that work well with trial and error, but I’d rather have better resolution in the first place. I don’t think anyone else does higher res either so it must be the ‘acceptable standard’ in the market place at this price point – at the moment.

    Over to you Dymo.

Golden Review Award: 11 From Our Usershis is a great tool. I have so many different bits and bobs I needed some way of keeping track of and this has done it very well. I was able to label it all very effectively and thanks to this devices computer app I can add barcodes and other useful organisational bits to items to help me keep track of them. very pleased and definitely recommend to anyone who needs this kind of tool. however I do also recommend to get the vinyl tape to go with it as its standard tape is only really good for paper and card. Vinyl works great on tools and hardware.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersVery pleased with the printer and the quality of the labels produced. It can be a little fiddly to get the paper backing off and the adhesive doesn’t appear to be that strong but I’ve not had any fail to stick or to come off. The manufacturer’s own brand tapes are better quality than the unbranded ones but then again they are more expensive. The PC software is useful but not essential.

This Dymo LM 280 label printing machine is high quality and prints great clear labels. Try it with Kodex replacement cartridges. The out door Kodex cartridges are great with this machine. Best bit of all is I’m getting 50% cashback via a Dymo promo making this machine a brilliant value purchase. Handheld with a great easy read screen and loads of fonts downloadable via a laptop ect. Great product at a silly cheap price.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI bought this as a replacement for my old DYMO 5000, which after 21 years gave up the ghost. First impressions were good: the keyboard works well and is considerably simpler to use than the 5000’s. I was annoyed that my old tapes would not fit the new machine, but a look at the new tape showed a slot in the case to accommodate a peg in the housing. A little knife work on the old tape cartridge and it works perfectly. One feature which is missing on the new machine is the the part-cut function on the old device which made stripping off the backing tape very easy. And why does the DYMO website appear to ignore 12mm tapes? The 280 page shows only 6mm and 9mm, though genuine 12mm tapes are easily available elsewhere.

Used to label a huge array of cabling from an existing data cabinet and patch panels during installation of a new full height cabinet. Without this labeller I can’t think how we would have managed that task. Labelled all the cables individually from the patch panels, data switches, phone server, alarm, CCTV and power supplies.
The labeller itself was very easy to set up and use. The label rolls are easy to change over. The battery charge is amazing and lasts for a very long time. The functionality and menu is very user friendly. I’m so glad we didn’t spend hundreds on much more expensive and complex systems when this served the purpose just fine. Definitely one of the better investments.

This is a great label maker with several features and several options of label making. The only drawback that I have is it’s a job to use in poor light. It would be handy to have an option to light up the screen.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersExcellent product which is very handy especially if you are a neat freak like myself. The range of use is excellent as well as the different settings this unit offers.

The rechargeable battery lasts for ages and charges quickly. Glad I brought this one rather than a unit which requires replaceable batteries.

This unit takes D1 tape which can be found very cheaply on Amazon and another well known auction website.

I don’t doubt this unit will last for a long while.

Surprised how good this product is. It has been really useful, but takes a bit of getting used to. It doesn’t have spell check (why should it?) but we get so used to everything spell checking that you have to get used to checking correct spelling before pressing print. Particularly as the keys don’t always register if pressing quickly. Some graphics on the screen are very small and not easy to read, but you soon get used to it.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI love this little machine. I use the clear with black letters tape which is perfect for my filofax. I use it to keep track of important meetings.
The tape that it takes is really easy to fit and is really sticky with a split in the middle to make removing the backing easy.
I have used it purely as a hand held and I have also used it connected to my MAC so it is like a mini printer and I can choose different fonts

Overall, a very useful piece of kit. It’s a little easy to miss-press a button and lose a character but you just have to be careful. Having used it to label up various items in my garage I wouldn’t be without it. I’m sure I will find it more useful as time goes on. For the price I would have to recommend it to anyone who had a fair amount of labelling .

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersGreat price and good labeller – not even as if the tape is silly-money, so happy with the experience.
Bought this over the cheaper non-rechargeable 160 model not for the ability to recharge (I have loads of Ni-Mh batteries), but for the higher-res screen you get on this.
Works well as a standalone unit, but have even more options if you plug it into your PC.
e.g. by itself it’ll do two-lines of text on a wide label, connected to a PC you can do as many lines as you want (although maybe not too readable).
Impression I get is the PC software is much more flexible (fonts/sizes/images/whatever – and it sends it to the printer as an image that it dutifully prints. Using the printer itself directly, you’ve got many more constraints, but everything it lets you print is legible).
Only issue I have with this is the white-space on each side of the label you produce, which is maybe a centimetre.
Bit annoying when you want to label say the top of a spice jar, and you end up having to get a pair of scissors out to make it fit.
A cynic might think that the gap between the print head and the cutter had been put so far apart to ensure you used more tape.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersGood item, easy to use with a good sized screen. Well laid out design that was easy to figure out with instruction Not used the in conjunction with a PC or MAC yet. Only let down was the adhesive quality of the supplied labels which I found not to be as good as the Brother label printer I bought to replace. My have been old labels where the adhesive has dried out over time? Will re-review when addional label cartridge has been purchased.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersGreat label maker, I did loads of research and this was the best I could find for this price.

I wanted the extra computer connectivity but to be honest now I have it I’m not sure it’s all that important, the font doesn’t come out the same, although it’s quicker and easy to edit on the computer to make a complex label with icons etc. I have a DYMO labelwriter so it uses the same software which is good.

The rubber buttons are nice but the screen is dated, it needs to be backlit, it has a shiny plastic finish which is easy to mark , I keep pressing it thinking it’s touch screen!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis can print labels either when used with a computer via usb, or operate independently using its lithium battery. A downside is that its 2.5 inch two-line monochrome display screen isn’t backlit making it harder to read in poor lighting. It has a physical qwerty keyboard and some touch-sensitive virtual buttons below the screen, which include on, print, menu, a d-pad, and a few others.

You get three choices for fonts: basic, serif, and fun. You can also change type size, add bold or italic text, a border, add symbols & clip art, date and time, auto-numbering, or saved text.

It uses a variety of tape cartridges from 6-12mm wide, and come in clear, white, blue, red, yellow, or green plastic.

Had a small issue getting this to connect to the Mac, but a quick message to Dymo and someone from their help desk emailed back very quickly with a solution, fully itemised and easy to follow. Excellent service. Turned out it was just me being too anxious to get it working.

Once up and running, really pleased with it. Even tiny graphics are nice and clear. Simple to use either connected to the computer or hand held.

ABC keyboard takes some getting use to. Ribbon that came with the printer was broken, so that the black transfer layer came out with the label – sort of worked. Ribbons sometimes get messed up when changing them – you need to waste an inch each time to swap to make sure the guides are lined up. Yellow & black stands out well. labels are not as sticky as cellotape and less flexible so extra glue may be required.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersVery good prompt delivery, and well packaged. I have a Casio machine that does pretty much the same thing, but I wanted a modern machine, and I like the Dymo brand.
I was a bit disappointedly bemused at first use, because it wouldn’t print, despite the ‘whirring’ noise of the machine attempting to do so. I snapped in the supplied cassette more firmly, but still the same. I pulled on the tape from the cassette, against a bit of resistance to make it more taught (as per the trouble shooter) although it was not slack, retried, and it worked.
I don’t need this for high volumes of labels, but I like a decent device to make any if and when I want them, and this is a quality machine that produces quality print on labels. I just used it from the PC as a printer with selected font(s) via its software downloadable from the Dymo website.
What I did try was the ‘screen grab’ feature from that software of the lady with the microphone mouthpiece, and pasted it on a label, then printed it.
…I was surprised of the photo quality of the grab for a label of this type, and was very impressed. So, not only is it capable of producing superb dedicated fonts when required, it can do finer detail also.
I just wish it would work with wider labels, but this is fine in every respect for shelf sized labels and other similar uses.

How the label maker has come on. I did a lot of research and, for me, I thought this was the best option. What I really like is the way you can USB plug it into your computer and write any font or symbol on the label using your easy to read monitor. It is also re-chargeable, so the only time you have to touch it when it is plugged into your computer is to cut the label off, and of course, you can unplug it and use it anywhere you wish. The labels are expensive but all label makers seem to be about the same on label prices.

  35. OmarGregory says:

I had one of those early Dymo printers where you had to rotate a disc to select a letter, squeeze a lever at a critical Pascal level to print the raised letter (which you couldn’t even see in the early machines: drat, start again!) and then cut the tape, probably in the wrong place. The tapes were the very devil to insert too. The result was rather like (although more useful than) those metal labels you could print in railway stations in the ‘speak your weight’ era.
This machine was a pleasant surprise: rather like graduating from an early Mini to the latest Rolls Royce, although I did have to imagine the latter. A separate ribbon now flat prints the text onto a separate tape. The cassettes are simple to insert, you can preview your text on a screen before printing, this models will take several tape sizes, you can select several sizes of text as well as bold, italic and various punctuation marks and symbols. Check the screen, press a button and it prints. This model is provided with separate rechargeable batteries so you will not have to constantly buy expensive replaceable ones nor throw the machine away (I-pod fashion) when the rechargeable batteries fail.
I suppose more intelligent design rather than evolution: other manufacturers please note.
