Epson Perfection V39 Photo and Document Scanner , Black
Ultra-compact and tidy
The V39’s power and connectivity is handled via a single Micro USB to reduce cable clutter and keep your workspace tidy. The device also has a built-in stand for flexible scanning to suit your desk space.
Fast, high-quality results
Thanks to Epson’s ReadyScan LED Technology, you can start scanning instantly – no warm-up time is required. Make sure that even your old photos look good with Epson Easy Photo Fix software, which improves the quality of your scans by removing dust, restoring faded colours and correcting backlight. Even your scanned documents will look ideal as the V39 comes with a range of enhancement features, enabling you to improve text sharpness and remove unwanted ‘bleed-through’ from double-sided documents.
Convenient
To make scanning quick and easy, the V39 has four one-touch buttons so you can scan, copy, share and turn your photos and documents into multi-page searchable PDFs* at the push of a button. For added versatility, a fully-detachable lid makes scanning of thick books, photo albums and other bound items possible.
Thanks to clever software the V39 can even handle larger photos and documents – simply scan the large item in A4 sections and then seamlessly join the sections back together to create the whole image. Scan directly to cloud storage services such as SugarSync and Evernote and easily share your photos with family and friends by scanning straight to Facebook and Picasa.

I needed a scanner which scans into whatever folder I tell it to and names the scan automatically and consecutively, so scan 1, scan 2, scan 3 etc etc. This does that. The last two scanners I bought didn’t allow this and the software was a bit clunky and unforgiving.
This scanner gives me the freedom to scan in bulk. Wonderful! Set up on a Mac was as simple as downloading the installation package and drivers, once i’d done that, the blue ‘active’ light came on and that was that. I was scanning. It’s incredibly fast as well, response time between starting a scan and the scanner beginning is almost instant. This is a great piece of kit, with the added bonus of slotting straight into my Mac via USB, no power adapter or plug required.
Bought this to run a proof of concept for a client. Very easy to set up and works well straight out of the box, very light and slim and looks ok on the desktop. The ability to power from USB means it can be easily plugged in and used with speed.
(Windows 10)
I had to go to the Epson site and download a new driver, but that was not too much of a hassle. More of a hassle was having to find that out myself by googling it. But now it works perfectly
I liked how nice and compact it was and convenient in using USB instead of mains power but it has one bugbear.
I have got Windows 7 64 bit desktop computer and followed the instructions for installation. The CD automatically updated the drivers from Epson website but unfortunately the light never came on and it did not work. Meanwhile it was trying to find a driver from Microsoft website — and it did and it was only then it started working. This is highly unusual as usually waiting for Windows drivers is a waste of time . So I don’t know what happened with Epson drivers
Simple to install, really easy to use. No mains supply cable to worry about – it takes its power from the computer it’s plugged into through the USB cable. Very intuitive to operate through the Epson app. Good quality results and a good price too. Very satisfied overall. Only one beef – it assigns duplicate serial filenames by default if you save scans to different folders on the same day. I’d prefer unique filenames.
I did not know what to expect for the price of this scanner, but I have to say that I am seriously impressed by its first use. I scanned my artwork and was blown away by the quality of the scanned image; I need to spend time now to see how the various adjustments affect the finished scan & also to try out the stitching function for an A3 original. So far though this scanner has outperformed my old Canon 5600F.
The v39 performs fairly well, although it is not as good as Epson 1660 it replaced (not compatible with windows 10.)
The v39 is a little flimsy, but so far performs well enough with good colour balance.
When yet another ‘all-in-one’ printer slipped this mortal coil, I decided to get a dedicated scanner so any future printer wouldn’t need one of these ‘tagged on’. Very glad I did. Easy to get working on my Mac Mini and so convenient to be able to store it away when not in use. Highly recommended.
Do like how easy it is to use and how slim it is. The space staging facility us a good idea allow it to be operated almost vertically
I don’t like the fact that it comes on when the pc is turned on would have preferred an on/off switch
Liked that it was easy to get going
BUT, if problems soon started in terms of compatibility with Apple…if you are happy running on old IOS then it works. It does NIOT seem to work well with Mojave and all lawyer versions.
Epsom and Apple unable to resolve issues. Sometimes it works and sometimes it does not.
Using the scanner on an old MacBook Pro that has not been updated, the scanner if fine.
It’s great. The only issue I have is that I often need to push the scan button twice as I get a warning message about not being able to communicate. I don’t know if this is the scanner’s fault or not. Other than that it does the job very, very well. Great for documents and photos and can scan straight to PDF.
I’m an experience graphic designer used to working with drum scanners and A3 Heidelbergs in the past. I wasn’t expecting much from this mere Epson Perfection V39 so I was pleasantly surprised that after all the scare stories I had read on here about drivers etc that I got it up running and scanning in ten minutes. Scanning was quite an intuitive exercise and the software is capable of producing an A4 scan in well under a minute! Quality is great and if you know how to use Photoshop that’ll help you improve your image too
It works well. I find it easy to use – I just had to plug it in and it worked. I use it mostly to scan documents to send to my accountant and virtual assistants for processing, and it works well for that.
This is for the Epson Perfection V39
I bought this so I could scan my watercolour paintings as the one I had couldn’t scan light colours and for me it works perfectly for what I want, I didn’t find it too noisy and it was easy to intall and it downloaded and installed the latest drivers from the Epson website so it saved me the hassle of doing it myself. I only used professional mode and the default settings but I’m going to play about with them to see what they can do as tere is a lot to learn. It scans very quickly and is very light and compatable and just perfect for my needs.
I saw two reviewers say about lines on 1200 dpi and I did once or twice see them but I just scaned again and they weren’t there so I don’t see anything faulty with it probably just a bad scan.
Finally having to change my old flatbed scanner when the generic drivers I was relying on would no longer function, the real problem was finding one that would work with Windows 10. The Epson Perfection V39 fitted the bill.
The new models rely on power from connection to the computer. Don’t try it with a hub, it doesn’t like it and will interfere with anything else you have there. Install the software and it’ll run with any of your graphics software. These flatbed scanners are physically thinner and lighter and really fast scans. I was doing double the number to the time I normally give. The lid can come off allowing easier scans from books.
This doesn’t mean it’s totally perfect but this is down to the scanner software. As this is pretty common to the generic drivers I was using with my previous scanner, I’m voicing comments here in case any of the companies want to do a revision.
The biggest problem is not seeing the DPI, that tells you the resolution of the scan in its main window. A4 default is 100DPI while 150DPI used to be the norm. You have to switch to another screen, via the highlighted blue line words to change the DPI and use the Custom command to keep it that way. I should point out that you a lot of control of the resolution which is good. Considering that there are only 5 commands there, it would have made sense to extend the main screen or give an option to widen as seen in other software.
For its speed, this Epson flatbed scanner makes my old scanners look like slowpokes but that can be put down to upping USB speeds.
Pros: Good value for money. Very easy connection with the computer via USB. No additional power cable! I love this feature. Good quality scans – I am using it only for domestic and small office needs, documents mainly. Helps to save space by putting it upright on the desk.
Cons: Installing the drivers: I kept on getting the message that I still need to install it but in fact it was already on my computer. In addition it took me about 15in find out how to switch between photo scan and PDF – document scan mode.
Lovely little scanner – great quality and works really fast.
Downside:
Maximum scan size is around 1.5GB – this is not mentioned in the documentation, either here or on their website.
This means that one CANNOT scan a whole sheet of A5 (smaller than A4) at maximum resolution.
The error says “File exceeds 20,000 x 30,000 pixels”
It is a bit annoying, as it seems to rigidly stick to that, and cannot even understand that 30,000 x 20,000 should be OK either!
Really like Epson scanners. Bought this one to replace an aging Epson 3940 Photo Scanner that had performed admirably for all it’s life but was now getting a bit streaky at the high resolution end. I tried a Canon scanner first as my printers are Canon but was very disappointed with it and sent it back, hence another Epson.
For it’s price and what I expect from it in terms quality, I have no grumbles. Photo scans are of good resolution and colour reproduction with document scanning being very adequate.Other good aspects are it’s lightness, the fact that it stand on it’s side gives it a small footprint and it is USB powered – so it doesn’t even need to be permanently on the desk. One small niggle though: it’s a bit noisy. But then what does that matter if you’re getting a good scan?
All in all happy with this purchase as it gives good quality for it’s price.
Nice results, my only niggle is that as it’s a USB powered scanner, each time I start my PC or come out from sleep mode it does its calibration check for a little while and isn’t the quietest thing ever. For this reason I leave it unplugged until I need it. Other than that it’s a nice compact scanner.
Very pleased with it so far, having just received it and tested scanning out a page from my sketchbook it has presented to me good quality, sharp images. Quick to scan and easy to use. No plug socket connection required, just a usb port from scanner to your computer. For mac laptop users, I just downloaded the correct software drive from the Epson website, instead of using the installation disc (as my macbook pro doesn’t have a cd drive). A good alternative to the more expensive Epson scanner ranges, this is affordable, producing good results. My only criticisms would be the overall appearance to be a little bulky and cheap but I wouldn’t really expect anything more at this price.
This is a really good scanner, powered by USB (so no power cables to worry about) giving lovely scans with a wide dynamic range. Usefully, it can sit up at about 60 degrees on a little kick-stand to take up less desk space (and it is possible to use – there’s enough of a ridge at the bottom of the glass to slide originals into position without them dropping too far down. And the lid has some leeway to rise above the plate so you can scan thick originals (books and the like).
The Windows PC software looks rather antique – in fact, it looks like it was designed for Windows 3.1. It takes a little getting used to, but it has all the functionality you need, including the ability to program the buttons on the scanner to perform different functions (such as scan and then email). If you choose “scan to PDF” you can scan multiple pages into a single document. There is a “copy” button, but as this scanner doesn’t have a printer, it doesn’t work – you can reassign it to another function.
I can forgive the slightly clunky software because of the quality of the scans. I mainly use it for scanning bills onto my computer to keep for reference, but I have also used it to scan photographic negatives into my computer, and that works far better than I had expected.
