Sturdy well made secateurs from Felco.Good cutting edge and sturdy workmanship. Highly recommend them
I was lucky enough to buy these when Amazon had them on a promotion price. They are amazing quality and I love them. If they are well looked after they will last many many years.
Recommended to me by my Gardner. He was right the are fantastic. Best pair I have ever owned.
Frighteningly sharp, exactly what is needed for a large collection of roses and shrubs.
Superb, sturdy, sharp and beautifully engineered. Should last decades. Not cheap, but a bargain for what you get.
Solidly made, repairable and not made by poorly recompensed labour in China
I bought these for my son as I bought a pair of Felco secateurs 30yrs ago and they are still going strong.
If you look after them they will last a lifetime.
Perfect for what they are intended to do, doubt if they can be beaten. Had first pair for 30+ years, so second pair here we go. Good job FELCO.
Having bought these they have made life in the garden so much easier and worth every penny compared to cheaper models.
These are really comfortable to hold , made cutting a load of rose bush branches easy to deal with, would definitely recommend…
Bought for present which was just what the person wanted. excellent next day service
Great quality, sturdy and sharp. You know it is high quality upon opening the package.
I bought my first pair of Felcos when I was at horticultural college 50 years ago and, with only a couple of professional services in that time, they are still going strong despite constant use.
My second pair, the first lasted forty years, and has been swiped by persons unknown. This new pair is identical to the old one, and looks to give similar service for someone.
The Felco 2 stands tall over the wasteland of cheaper alternatives. It’s expensive compared to others, and for good reason. Build quality is excellent. Blade is sharp out of the package and doesn’t need sharpening for a while after use. Should any part break, spares are available so you don’t have to spend a big sum of money replacing the whole secateurs. To sum it up, the Felco 2 is the Rolls-Royce of secateurs.
Genuine Felco excellence, these (model 2) pruning shears are the real deal and match up exactly to my expectations of such a well known and trusted tool. Felco are considered to be among the best of the best for good reason and the classic model 2 cutters are still exceptional in both style, function and build quality. I could not be happier with them. Buy once with confidence, these will last you a VERY long time.
I’ve worked as an urban gardener for a number of years and since I was 16 have had the same pair of felco model 2s (along with other secateurs from the felco range used for different jobs) which i’ve had attached to my belt for years now, and i’ve put them through all weathers, used them on all sorts of plants for different tasks and sure as hell dropped them half a million times. I see these to be the best all-round professional secateurs on the market. I say that while knowing there are better ones out there such as some of the Japanese makes but they cost 4 times as much. As long as you don’t lose these and keep them clean, sharp and oiled they are a lifetime investment for any professional gardener or amateur alike.
This FELCO Secateurs (Large) is strong and very sharp. It has retained it’s cutting ability extremely well. It is very robust. I have used it to prune all manner of shrubs.
It is easy to hold and use with bare hands, however it is not so easy to use with gloved hands, because it’s handles are covered in smooth plastic, and it is therefore difficult to retain one’s grip on it.
I bought these then my professional gardening friend saw them and said that I had the best because he had the same pair bought 15 years ago which he uses every day. Comparing them there was little difference very little sign of wear and tear on his and he cleans them with a Crean block and camelia oil at least once a week. Really good tool. The only way you would get better is to pay for the most expensive Japanese secateurs.
Treated my self to a new pair
Had the old ones since 2007
Wanted to try these as they got the rotating handle .
Old no7 still going strong ,look A bit worn .
Use them every day.
I have big hands do find they open quite wide
Stick a little like my old pair
Just oil them should be ok .
I have now found that the rotating handle sticking not moving after a week after purchase.
Leather pouch broke .!!
My old pair and leather pouch still going since 2007 !! Just old worn
Bit disappointed to be hones
My mum needed a new pair of secateurs – she has a drawer full of cheap ones, I did my best to fix them up but they’re just not good, they’re semi-disposable really. So I bought another pair of Felcos and she’s extremely pleased. I’ll keep on top of the maintenance for her but putting them side by side with a knock off pair she has was laughable.
I don’t really garden myself (well I do, but I don’t love it!) but I like my tools and appreciate a well made precision tool when I see it. There’s tools you buy for an odd job that you probably won’t use again, so a cheaper one might do. Then there’s tools that will be a mainstay of your longterm hobby or work and it’s always worth buying the best you can, both economically and for the best results.
Secateurs definitely fall into that category as they’ll potentially see decades of year-round usage. The fact that the Felcos can be easily maintained, stripped down, have their parts replaced and the business end is made from extremely high quality steel (they come with a precise cutting edge that will pass the “paper test”) means that for less than 50 they’re a sensible investment. I use a variety of cutting tools in my hobbies and the Felcos are as good as any of them.
So, don’t have a drawer full of rusty blunted tools! It’s a shame that people replace their secateurs when they stop cutting or functioning as they should, whether that’s through lack of maintenance or just buying the cheapest ones they can. It’s wasteful and a false economy. Grab a pair of Felcos, maintain them, and you’ll have years of gardening joy (whatever that is!).
I saw the Model 2 on Amazon Warehouse for 30 and they were listed as ‘Like New’ but appear to have had a couple of weeks use!
Having said that the difference in quality is significant and they cut through the Yucca like it’s a blade of grass. They also handle much better too. The only reason I’m marking them down is for the adjustment tool, which is a total waste of time and would not loosen the locking mechanisms without risking injury. As this is around 5 to buy new perhaps they could be provided without one and this could be reflected in the price.
I can certainly vouch for the Felco 2 secateurs as I now have two pairs of them!
I brought the first pair for my wife 16 years ago and they have been superb. I do keep those sharp and oiled, and that’s a pleasure to do also for such high quality items, part of the joy of owning them in fact.
Problem came when we were both out in the garden and when I needed a pair to have in the van…so….looked around at cheaper items, both on Amazon and also in “real life stores” (gosh, shock, horror!). Once you have had a pair of Felcos, you really are just never going to be satisfied with anything else! So, I dug deep and splashed out on a second pair.
Interesting that whilst I had kept the others in super condition, the new ones are of course amazing! The quality is still the same, the look and feel the same and yes….I even checked them on the kitchen scales to see if they weighed the same – they do!
So, these are the same, top quality items that they always were. Supplied with a very, very sharp blade too — be careful!
Yes, lots of cheaper ones around, and yes these are pricey. Here you get what you pay for.
However, they really do the job with ease, they are comfortable, they feel great in the hand and they are made to out last anything else you could buy.
I have stuck with the model 2 on both occasions as I just like them but would be sure the others in the range would have the same qualities. I might even look to see what other products Felco do as I am a bit of a critic normally with tools and these are even up to my exacting standards!
So, if you want a treat and want something really amazing that will last, then don’t hesitate, these are the top choice.
A pleasure to use and own.
It is hard to choose which model you want, so before shelling out the not inconsiderable sum for these beasts I suggest you visit the Felco World web site which details the 20 models available (including for left-handers), then purchase here, where it is cheaper. It does not provide side by side comparisons, so you have to wade through a bit, but there is lots of information there.
The web site also lets you order parts and has good drawings. So if you lose the maintenance and parts list which is on the inside fold of the backing card of your secateurs, you can get it there. There are also how-to videos.
They are clearly very well made and the parts availability and dismantling-capability are big pluses for me to justify the price.
It is worth a word about the “rolling action” of the lower handle which this model has (and some others such as the Compact Deluxe). A number of secateurs have this now and I read some reviews where people really hate it. I can see why as the effect is odd. What happens is that as you squeeze the outer handle rolls up your fingers. This has the effect of moving the pressure point so is a big advantage if you are doing a lot of cutting and your hands get tired. My wife has arthritis and so I thought this would suit her, but she also very often rejects new things so I was not sure; to her own surprise she said that within a few minutes she’d simply forgotten about this feature, just taking it for granted. However she did find she dropped them a few times, but thinks that will stop once she has got more used to them.
Of course you don’t have to have this feature, which is on two models only at present (look for the thicker lower handle.
Performance: well they cut like a dream — as would cheap ones brand new. But they do seem a cut above (sorry!) any of the many other supposedly quality brands I’ve owned over the years.
OK they are expensive but they are comfortable to use (even if you have smaller hands) and really do the job. I seem to remember someone commenting that they lose their edge. I haven’t found this to happen particularly fast. When they do get less sharp a quick go with a sharpener (I have the Felco Diamond Sharpener) is all that’s needed. I’m guessing that the reason you can get them so sharp is down to the steel used. If the metal was harder it may hold an edge longer but you couldn’t get it as sharp in the first place. If you are hesitating about making the investment – don’t! As long as you don’t lose them they could last a lifetime. You can easily get spare blades etc and Felco do a full refurb service by post when you feel they are a bit tired
If you plan to use your secateurs for more than a couple of years, don’t waste your money on a different brand than Felco. The Felco secateurs are built sturdy and well, they’re built to last, the individual parts are all replaceable and fit well together. It’s not rocket science to build a good product and yet so many other companies fail in making a product that works just as well and with as great satisfaction.
Once you own a pair of Felco secateurs you might even wonder if what all the fuss is about because the just go about their function without calling any attention to themselves. They don’t squeek and they cut well and they just keep on working well. Once adjusted to the right tension to suit your use and to make sure they don’t bind when opening and closing, all you have to do is clean them after use and they’ll serve you well.
