I bought this because I was fed up with feeding ma 2 sheets at a time this one claims 10 and it really does
Using this shredder for my home office, it performs very well, doing a great efficient job.
Ideal for home office use where you have a relatively large amount of shredding. The large 22 litre bin is a big plus as many shredders have a much smaller capacity.
This is the first time I have bought a higher-priced shredder. It is working well after about a month’s use.
The main body is lightweight plastic. The shredder head sits on top and is quite heavy. The wheels are small, so that when you try to wheel it from one location to another it topples over very easily.
Not as robust as the Fellowes shredder I had before, but seems to shred OK and is quite quiet. Whether it lasts as long remains to be seen.
This is a good solid shredder for home use, it can easily cope with multiple sheets and is a leap up from the one we replaced which finally gave up the ghost. Its a Which best buy so no surprize that this is a good machine.
Only had it a couple of weeks and has not had a lot of use. It seems to work as expected but not had it long enough to give 5 starreview, but so far so good!
This is one of those purchases where I was looking at the price for a long time and debating whether it was worth it. Let’s face it…. It expensive, even on sale.
That being said, compared to my much cheaper, entry level shredder also from Fellowes, this product is on a completely different level where I can understand some of the cost difference.
My smaller shredder would jam with more than two sheets of paper in it. A staple would stop it shredding the rest of the sheet and it would need unblocking every half hour or so.
This one I shredded about 6 months worth of junk in at least 1/4 of the time of the smaller one with zero jamming at all. I even put stuff in it that I was sure was going to jam and it didn’t stop…. Honestly its pretty scary how effective it is. I put cardboard in the thing and it went through. I put plastic cards into it with no issue. I even put through entire envelopes with the rubbish from TV licencing inside, still sealed and it didn’t even flinch.
The bin also holds a fair amount. I had to empty it twice for 6 months worth of collected junk (around 60-80 letters and flyers). The deposited paper is small strips, extremely safe and almost impossible to rebuild. Definitely safe enough for confidential office use. Noise wise, it’s about the same as every other shredder you have likely heard. It’s not quiet but you can hear yourself talk over it but if you are using a phone nearby it’s definitely heard on the other end.
Obviously this price point means it’s still a ‘nice to have’ product but I can honestly say there’s nothing more I would ask for from this product.
The advert gave the impression that it’s packaging was damaged and that there were some scratches on the surface. These l thought were caused by the damage to the packing. This is not the case. This has obviously been used and l can only guess mistreated. Not really worth the few pounds difference to a new one. Having said that,it appears to work .
IT IS BRILLIANT, I CAN’T WAIT UNTIL I CAN USE IT SO I CAN SHRED MY UNWANTED MAIL ETC
Never received it as after much chasing was forced to cancel.
Looks quite smart; lift-off head much heavier than my previous Fellowes; rather noisy. No problems shredding to date.
Bought to replace a very old 6 sheet shredder that had given up. It handles a decent number of pages (although 10 sheets is probably pushing it, particularly with heavier weight paper). It handles staples if you’ve forgotten to take them out too.
The safety feature that detects your hand is near the lid can be a bit annoying and can trigger if a page being shredded flops over, but better safe than sorry I guess.
The shredder works well, and the bin size is ideal – not too large but also I’m not needing to empty it all the time with light use.
The only change that would make this 5 stars is to improve the “safe sense” safety bar. This is too sensitive and means the shredder will sometimes turn off when my hands are nowhere near. For example if the paper is slightly too humid, or I’m holding the paper with my hand – the shredder will sense the conductivity and turn off. The best resolution for this is that I left the paper to dry out overnight before shredding.
Unfortunately this safety feature can’t be turned off, so I just have to wait.
Otherwise a great shredder, so 4 stars overall
Fellowes customer service is second to none.
There is a safety feature that prevents the shredder from working if it detects something too close to the blade and unfortunately mine developed a fault after 24 hours and the shredder wouldn’t work. HOWEVER, I contacted Amazon who contacted Fellowes who immediately replaced the item for me without any fuss.
The replacement is working brilliantly and has proved reliable. A great compact shredder for a home office that I can recommend with confidence.
Easy to use, however, I’d make the following observations:-
Be careful not to shred too much at a time, about 5 minutes is fine so shredder doesn’t get too hot, and don’t put more than a couple of pages thickness through at at time.
Check regularly that the shredded pile in the bin doesn’t reach the blades – push the cone of accumulated shredding down
Don’t let the bin get too full before emptying and each time bin was emptied trickled a little oil across blades as instructed in the manual
Have owned a Fellows shredder before, well made and with careful treatment last for years!
This is our second shredder. The new Powershred went for 30 – 40 minutes before stopping to cool down. Compare this with about 3 minutes for our older shredder.
Supposed to wait 20 minutes to cool down, but we found 10 minutes was sufficient. We filled three really big bin liners in an hour with the Powershred. Compared to half of one of the same bin liners in four hours with our older machine. It won’t work if your fingers get too close to the slot.
We had no jams at all.
Despite what other reviewers have said, with the window on the front one CAN see the extra large bin filling up with shreds. They probably did not wait long enough before emptying the bin. The window is at the top so one only sees the shreds when they get right to the top. Due to the size of the collector bin, extra large bin bags are recommended to allow the collecting bin to empty straight into the bin bag.
We made sure to oil both our machines this time. Neither machine jammed on this occasion. Our older machine has some paper compacted in the middle so we have to fold documents in half to shred them.
I gave no mark for ‘Sheerness’ because I don’t know what it means in this context. To me it means either ‘the measure of a slope’ or ‘the name of a town in Kent’.
Money well spent for us.
I’ve had 3 of these machines for casual shedding.
They are reliable but I notice that they need oiling, something not seen before.
Also you have to get on your hands and knees to tell whether they need emptying, another first.
I would say the latter is a no no.
Excellent shredder, does the job well, not too noisy, looks good but some odd design points and it’s just not designed right unless you are not going to move it . The on/off switch is tucked away at the back and the panel at the top of the bin which should let you see how full it is, is so dark it’s useless. Lifting the top off is difficult – no finger places and it is very heavy but the worst thing is trying to lift the whole thing – the smooth design of the bin gives nothing to get hold of. All these sorts of shredders (this is my third, I’m hoping it is more robust than its predecessors – so far so good) are top heavy but this one seems to have been designed primarily to look good . its fine if you just put it in the corner in an office but not so good if you want to move it about or tuck it into a cupboard at home.
I bought this for my elderly aunt who gets inundated with junk mail. She was spending ages ripping her mail up, and I couldn’t persuade her to just throw it straight into the recycling bin, as she was worried about her name and address being seen. I got this from the Amazon Warehouse. The price was brilliant, half of the current regular price. The box was a bit tatty, but that’s all. The item itself was unused. Two years later, it’s still working perfectly and it gives my aunt great peace of mind. I got her a big bottle of shredder oil too. I suspect without this her blades would be blunt by now. She tells me she never has any problems with paper jams etc. I’ll get one for myself whenever I see them for sale at the price I bought this one for.
A good solid shredder that does what’s advertised – ‘shreds’ up to 10 sheets at a time. Though actually this machine chips the paper up. More secure & waste takes up less space. Would have been 5 stars but what I take to be a safety feature got in the way. I tend to save up my shredding for too long and want to shred straight into a bin liner to avoid emptying too often. This model won’t start unless it is sitting on its own bucket. Don’t let that put you off buying one though.
So my previous Fellowes bit the dust (P70 CM 7 sheet cross shred) and I wanted something that was better than that one, which did the job but was noisy and had a metal basket which allowed dust to get everywhere and had to be bagged.
I find the current Fellowes product line up to be confusing as there seems to be a number of products which occupy the same price and specification point. I kinda narrowed it down to 4 and then picked according to price.
I have to say I am impressed with this shredder. It is fairly large, but not too large that it is cumbersome (I live in small 1 bed flat). It cuts up to 10 sheets and it is relatively quiet. It has an on/off switch as well as a forwards/backwards switch (I found turning my old one off at the wall, underneath the desk, annoying). I like the fact that it is a plastic bin with a window so that the paper dust is contained. It does not really accept bin liners like the old one did, but I just empty it straight into a recycling bag. Two bins of this fill a large London sized recycling bag. It seems robust and well made and does not sound like a malfunctioning lawn mower and I reckon it will do the job nicely.
Bought in an exchange for a slightly cheaper shredder which had not performed well. This Fellows Powershred hitherto has fully met my needs occasionally struggling with the 10 sheets capacity advertised. I therefore confine mine to around 6 with which it copes very well. Run time and cooling time is comparable to others in this price range. Haven’t tried shredding credit cards yet but have no reason to believe anything less in a good performance. At this price I would certainly recommend it.
I purchased this to replace an old cheap and cheerful shredder I had at home, it was useless at bulk shredding.
This fellows unit is a revelation by comparison. It’s very fast, chomps though paper and card like its life depends on it. The only thing it won’t eat are CD’s.
Having small children in the house I was impressed with the dual power switches, there is a master on/off at the rear, and a mode switch at the front. Coupled with the safety cutout finger protection on the aperture, I’m confident my kids are safe. Though I do still unplug it between use.
It is a touch noisy, but then find me one that isn’t.
I recommend this for home or office.
Our old shredder would keep getting jammed up if you did not empty it as soon as the paper got near the cutter and it also kept stopping after 3/4 minutes and we had to wait 15 minutes plus to cool down. As we were moving and had an excessive amount of shredding to do we decided to purchase a new on and we are so glad we did this unit is unbelievable.
I was able to shred for over 3 hours and it did not overheat once I did not put more than 2/3 sheets at one time just in case but it performed superbly I ended up with two very large black bags full. The only small complaint I have was that you cannot see the paper level as the screen is to dark but I just checked it every few minutes to make sure that it was not to full.
I have had the shredder for over two months and it works fine. As recommended, I have lubricated it with Fellowes Shredder Lubricant every time I have emptied the bin. From reading the reviews of other shredders, it seems that they either fail very quickly or last for years, so I am optimistic that this one will last for a long time. It shreds several pages simultaneously without problems, but the claimed ten pages seems optimistic.
I did not give the shredder five stars because you have to lift the shredder unit off the bin to empty it, rather than pulling the bin out sideways. As you seem to have to pay more for the latter kind of shredder I may be being a bit picky.
I am impressed by the apparent robustness of the shredder, it is well made and functions exactly as advertised, the proximity cut-off feature works very well, the opening could possibly permit a very small child’s finger to be inserted (although I am not sure it would actually touch the shredding mechanism) but the proximity cut off eliminates any possible risk of this anyway. The overall capacity is rather small for a busy office, but is ideal for intermittent use or as I am finding shredding about 30+ years of old bank statements, utility bills, grown up children’s old school / college /university papers etc. in the home – Why have we kept all of this ‘stuff’ for so long! This unit gives the impression it will last a long time and while providing therapy in the process – Highly recommended, just check the dimensions and think where you will position it if using in the home, as while its not huge it is somewhat bigger than the typical flimsy domestic units generally bought by a home user.
I had a lot of shredding to do so I wanted something at a reasonable price that could handle multiple sheets. The amount of sheets does depend on the thickness so I usually only shred 5 at a time and it copes extremely without over heating, which automatically turns the shredder off.
It has an automatic cut out if anything touches across the top of the opening, designed to protect fingers. It has a good sized bin but it is awkward to handle if using one hand to tip shreds into a bag, it could do with some hand grips. The bin has a window so you can see how full it is but it is much too dark so you have to lift the top to have a look.
All in all I am very pleased with this shredder, fast, fairly quite and a good sized bin at a reasonable price.
I think this is fabulous! My precious Rexel shredder is a total pain in the butt even though it wasn’t a little Micky mouse model! I’d do some shredding and very quickly it was cut out and I’d have to wait for ages for it to reset. I had a massive bag of old statements that needed shredding and I’ve been put off doing it because it is such a palaver until now. I saw this on QVC for about 60 approx plus around 7 p&p and thought it looked good but wanted to see if I could get a better price. It looked really good in the video munching through loads of paperwork with ease so when I found the exact same model in Amazon Warehouse for 32.01 I thought I’m going to have that.
Admittedly the box was a little battered and bruised and taped up but the shredder itself was in perfect new condition and I no longer have a big bag of shredding to do because I did it all without it cutting out once! The box is now in the recycling bin and I’ve saved myself 27.98 off Amazon’s normal price of 59.99 – I am very happy 🙂
The shredder shreds very quickly chopping the pages into little tiny bits. It is slower if you shred more pages but I think this is brilliant! My old Rexel one is now in the bin where it deserves to be.
