We bought this to replace an old Fellow’s shredder that had reached the end of it’s useful life. The new one is more powerful, shreds more pages at a time, cuts the documents into much smaller pieces, and it runs for longer without overheating.
Exactly what we needed.
This is the second one of these we’ve had because I’d basically crammed too many pages in at once. If you stick to the correct amount, good product!
What the sales information didn’t say was that the ‘8 sheets’ referred to 70g paper. As I only use 80g paper in my printer (and bank statements tend to be on slightly heavier paper) ‘8 sheets’ is a bit misleading. However, that said, this is a nicely built item that happily chomps through credit cards and 5 sheets of 80g paper at a time until I have filled the container. And all completed without inducing a temperature overload. The noise level is also more quiet than the shredder it replaced.
In its auto mode, the overrun clears the cutting blades while I gather the next batch of sheets for shredding. In my opinion, an excellent shredder for my home-use purpose as I haven’t accumulated a large pile for shredding by the next time I’m ready to use it.
Unlike several inferior models of printer – all of which I had to return – this actually does the job it’s supposed to. It doesn’t get jammed and has a robust motor. Well priced too.
Worth paying a bit extra , well made and does a brilliant job . Recommended
An easy to use shredder. I like the fact that it automatically shuts off if used continuously for 5 minutes and re-starts after it has cooled down. I choose this shredder as it also shreds credit cards and I am happy with this feature.
This is an excellent shredder which produces very fine waste rather than ribbons. You MUST oil it whilst using it and you cannot use it for more than 5 minutes without 30 minutes resting in between. This should be made clear on the sales information. We are overall pleased with i
Easy to use bit annoying having to turn on and off, the old fellows unit I had you just put paper in and away it we
This works well. It’s best used for small bursts of activity. This is used by us for preparing project papers and letters to enter recycling. You have to remember to use special oil on the cutters before you start each time to keep it free running.
It’s a shredder and it does a great job of shredding. It struggles with anything over 3 sheets at a time but other than that it does a great job.

This shredder is a clear upgrade on the Amazon brand shredders I have purchased previously.
It’s very good and easy to use and is a lot better than the other shredder’s I’ve had and would recommend this to everyone who needs a shredder.
My previous Fellowes shredder gave years and years of good service. This one looks even better, and I think very good value. Paper bin a decent size.
Highly recommended.
Good robust and eats paper with ease, the safety button was a bit stiff which was not a problem just needed a firm thumb. The only issue I had was the shredded paper building up like a pyramid in the bin below which can feed back into the teeth if left, I would guess all shredders do that?? I just shook it to settle and level the paper.
Hi very good in size for small space. Mine worked lovely for 3 months and then got slow and paper could only be shredded in small numbers. Then got stuck and cleared jammed paper. Now its not working at all.
Both the product description and – to my recollection – its packaging CLEARLY state that the shredder is built for OCCASIONAL use. In my case for shredding bills, statements and other sensitive documents, usually regularly as needed rather than saving them up for a lengthy session. The motor has never overheated and if those critics bothered to read the instructions and use the shredder as intended they too would have little to complain about.
Pretty sure this is my third shredder. The other two ground themselves to a halt.
This one has a better cutting mechanism but like most of the lower end devices you need to take care and look after it.
I make sure I don’t overheat it. Don;t listen to the indications these devices can handle more than one sheet at a time. Maybe from time to time but to make them last best to push single sheets.
I already had the oil used to lubricate the cutter.
I don’t over feed it and I make sure I know when it’s getting hot, at which point I stop shredding and wait until it’s cooled down.
I like the fact you can see inside the bin through the small window, avoiding overfilling also helps preserve the life of the unit.
I admit this was a little more expensive than previous shredders I have owned.
Seems to work well shreds and cuts everything it is asked to.
Excellent product, doesn’t take up too much space yet the base is more than adequate for our home office. I put anything and everything I can, even some cardboard boxes to use in my composter. No identity theft easily achieved from the shredding. It takes a reasonable number of sheets together. Very happy with the quality of the produc
Bought the Fellowes Microshred 8MC shredder for home use largely on the back of customer reviews on here and on Which? where it’s a recommended Best Buy. Early days, but thoughts so far are as follows:
POSITIVES: (1) Sturdy, stable and well built (2) Compact and won’t take up much space (3) Easy to use from the off, instructions very clear (4) Does what it says on the tin (5) best purchase price on Amazon.
NEGATIVES: (1) Possibly a little expensive for what it is compared to other models. (2) It will NOT cope with eight sheets of paper in one go as described in the technical spec (unless we’re talking about tissue paper!), as confirmed in the Which? review. Manages two or three sheets of good grade paper at a time, but it starts to labour with any more than this number. Best to use no more than a couple of sheets together which will extend the shredder’s continuous operation before it needs a 30-min cool down. (3) The weight of the shredder is all in the lid where the mechanism is located – it basically sits on a plastic bin. This is possibly a common design feature, but it does make the shredder ‘top-heavy’ (4) as a micro-cut shredder, it produces small confetti-like paper and is the therefore the most secure when it comes to shredding confidential documents. It creates a lot of ‘paper dust’ though which can collect around the top of the shredder and means it needs an occasional wipe down. Also, don’t tip loose confetti into the recycling bin – it goes and blows everywhere! Although technically less secure (is anyone really going to go to the trouble of piecing together tiny strips of paper to access personal information?) a strip-cut shredder is probably more practical and produces less mess.
Overall, seemingly more negatives than positives but I’m happy with it. It’s just a shedder at the end of the day…!
This shredder is great. It is reasonably compact and sat quite happily on the corner of my desk whilst I undertook a lot of shredding over a number of days.
To (hopefully) preserve it’s working life, I have shredded in batches so that it doesn’t overheat and ensured that the blades are oiled each time I empty the bin.
The shreds (confetti) are nice and small and I feel confident in using this unit to destroy documents containing personal information. The teeth are strong enough to get through several sheets of paper and can be used to shred credit cards.
Our old straight-out shredder was on its last legs years ago, but shredders get such bad reviews I kept with it. People complain and say “it’s no good, it can’t shred stuff, it overheats”, and so on.
I tried this, and it really works well. I was careful – I didn’t overload it with multiple sheets at a time, and let it stand a bit to cool down, but it powered through quite a pile of shredding.
I used shredder oil, so that my first experience wasn’t seeing it shudder to a halt.
The results are great – the shredded paper looks pretty much like dust. Thick dust, yes, but it’s not chunks of paper with anything readable.
It got warm, and I did get the impression the supposed capacity of sheets at a time was optimistic, but it seemed quite robust.
I’ve had home shredders for over 20 years and have only needed 2 in the that whole time even with no oiling or maintenance, all have been Fellowes and they get heavy use as I also work from home too. This machine is the best yet. I’ve always had cross cut but this new micro cut is fantastic. It takes much longer to fill up and is much easier to empty and hardly anything ever gets stuck in the blades which was always a common thing with the cross cuts blades. I wouldn’t ever go back to cross cut now. This machine is smaller than my last one but with the micro cut actually holds more pages as they really do take up a lot less space in the bin. It also cuts credit cards with ease. It claims to cut 8 pages, in my experience most paper is thicker than they test for this but I have no problems cutting 5 pages of 80gsm at a time which is fine as it’s pretty quick too considering it’s a micro cut this is impressive. It’s also quieter than my last model and definitely lasts a lot longer before overheating, in fact the bin usually fills up before it ever overheats which is a big improvement. Excellent machine.
This shredder replaced another from the same maker, Fellowes, which we had for perhaps 20 years. It was reliable and only needed replaced due to wear and tear on an internal component which stopped it working properly. Researched the wide number of models made by this company (lots!) and chose this model due to it having a good sized bin for the shredded material, with a window to show how the shredding was piling up inside (last one did not), and it is a micro cut rather then a cross cut shredder. Micro cut produces tinier pieces of paper compared to the cross cut, and prevents the bin filling up too fast. It is amazingly quiet in use. It makes a bit more noise in reverse, when you are putting oil into it as suggested for lubrication. We bought a suitable oil at the time of purchase. Note you cannot put certain oils into it (e.g. 3 in 1). It has to be a suitable one. It is constructed of metal and plastic and is of a sturdy construction. I would highly recommend this model. It may cost a bit more than other brands, and even within the Fellowes range. Do your homework and pick one that suits you and your family and how you are going to use it, including the frequency of use.
Works well. Takes staples and cards as advertised, without fuss. The micro shredding is impressive. Can hear it strain if you go near it’s limit. Not sure about value for money, but it does have the features I was (mostly) looking for.
Seems to be a lot quieter than my last shredder, easy to use & empty although I wear a mask as the shredding is quite dusty with it and very fine. Would recommend buying the oil pads which you put through before you use it, then say every couple of months.
Would recommend.
I previously had the older version of a Fellowes cross-cut shredder with a much larger bin. It’s still going strong after 15 years but my sister wanted it so I gave it to her. I was aware that cross-cut produces small slivers of paper that, if you were very very patient, you could actually piece back together again like a jigsaw. This is made worse if you put paper in sideways so it cuts “along” the writing rather than “across” it (meaning you could make out the odd word here or there). So whilst OK for home use, I wanted something even more secure for items work-related so opted for the micro-cut version of the same machine – the 8MC. It cuts really well and leaves you with tiny pieces of paper too small to do anything with – very secure. The price had temporarily dropped to the same price as the 8C so I am even happier with the VFM.
Worth noting that many sites mis-sell the 8C as the 8Cm – no doubt in an effort to confuse people into buying it rather than the 8MC – an easy way to remember it is MC=MicroCut and C=CrossCut, and I would recommend a Micro-Cut shredder for the best security.
The item is pretty much as loud as any shredder I’ve ever used (no better or worse) and copes with staples and cards easily. I’m not too sure about “8 sheets of paper”, mine managed 4 quite well though, so a thumbs up there. I need to remember to buy some all-purpose (3:1) oil for the occasional lubrication you need to do to keep it operating well.
As mentioned, the bin is about half the size of my previous shredder but as the paper ends up in smaller bits, you can fit more paper sheets in there so it’s perfectly fine for this (and allows it to be placed under your desk and out of the way). It also has a safety lock preventing little fingers from using as well.
5 stars and highly recommended.
Bought this for my Dad to shred his confidential documents. He’s very pleased with how it does the job. Only minor gripe is that the manufacturer instructs that an oil be used to lubricate the cutting blades but doesn’t supply any oil with the shredder. Having to order oil from the same manufacturer to ensure my Dad was able to follow instructions and avoid risking voiding the manufacturer’s warranty was really annoying, hence 4 stars out of 5. Surely at this price, it wouldn’t be too much to expect a small supply of oil be included!
Home office friendly easy to use paper shredder which stands about 15″ tall – chomps paper in to tiny pieces ready for recycling or binning. Will happily chomp away for about 10 -15 minutes (depending on the paper thickness) before cutting out, but runs hot after about five minutes of continuous use, so runs better and longer on a start stop pause start cycle. A couple of standard sheets of 150-200gsm thickness paper slows the process down, so single feed is faster in my opinion. Overall not bad and the two year warranty is nice to have. If I was to choose again I’d probably go for the next version up which takes thicker weight paper with a longer run time, but that unit takes up more floor space. Overall recommended but consider the larger model if having a declutter of volumes of old bank statements…
This is a proper micro shredder, the pieces are tiny. Like with all shredders you have to limit the time the motor is running and the amount of paper you put in at any one time. I find max 2 sheets works well and turn it off after 5mins of use. With my old shredder you could smell the motor over heating before it stops working then you have to wait an hour or two for it to cool down before it works again.
It may seem expensive but of all the shredders Iv had this seems the most solid well built, just have to treat it with care. Great for home or small office, not for heavy use.
Arrived promptly and am totally happy with the Fellows 8Mc shredder.
Have already used a lot copes with five A4 sheets comfortably and goes quicker rather than maxing out on the 8 sheets at a time. Managed to shred around 180/190 sheets in one session. The thermal cut out works well and stops over use in one session.
The ‘bin’ is reasonably large and would guestimate allows around capacity of around 250 sheets of A4 to be collected before needing emptying.
I have no hesitation in recommending this shredder which I have found excellent for my personal home use does the job perfectly!
Working from a home office has created a lot of waste paper which contains personal information and I needed a paper shredder to help protect that information before I disposed of it. There’s quite a lot to choose from on Amazon and after careful consideration, based on reviews, I opted for this Fellowes 8Cd shredder and having used it for a while it has turned out to be a good little worker. At the price of 53.99 I’m very happy to recommend it.
Up to 8 sheets shredding
Safety lock
Shreds plastic cards
Shreds CD’s/DVD’s
Overheat protection
Reverse function
Long warranty
Power lead only 1.3m
This is a good performing paper shredder which will also shred CD’s/DVD’s and plastic cards such as old credit or debit cards. It can shred up to 8 sheets (70gsm) of paper in one go even if it contains staples or small paper clips. The storage bin has a 14 litre capacity which is roughly equivalent to 150 sheets of A4 shredded paper.
This comes well packaged and is set up within a minute, always read the instructions to get familiar with the functions first. The unit comes in two parts, the bin and the main shredder. The shredder sits comfortably on the top of the bin with lift off ingresses either side for easy moving. The lead is only 1.3m in length which is shorter than I would of liked, the plug has the British Standards mark on.
In operation this works really well. To operate just slide the switch to auto and it will start shredding as soon as paper is inserted. The blades will continue to turn for a few seconds afterwards to ensure all the paper is out of the blades. The slider switch can also be moved to reverse function for when there is a jam in the blades, I haven’t had the chance to test this yet, just haven’t had a paper jam! There is also a safety lock switch to prevent the power switch from moving to auto which is ideal if this unit is going to be left switched on at the mains unattended.
This shredded 8 sheets of 80gsm paper with ease, it does specify 70gsm in the manual but it was happy with 80gsm. I did try the CD shredder which has a separate slot on top of the unit, it cut this up with ease, see my video. I haven’t tried a plastic card yet in this however they are inserted in the centre of the paper slot, it’s clearly labelled on the machine anyway.
This unit can operate continuously for up to 3 minutes without a break, that’s constantly inserting paper without stopping, but the manufacturer does advise allowing a break for the machine to cool down, if you don’t then it will automatically shutdown and cool down itself. The green power light will turn to red to signify that cooling down is in process and will turn green when ready to start.
The shredded paper size is 4mm x 35mm which I’m happy with.
The cutter heads are under warranty for 3 years! Awesome!
Overall this is a good quality paper shredder for the money I’ve paid and is most suitable for the home office!
Recommended!

Only had for 2 days, but think the following applies:
Excellect micro cut. Takes a lot to fill up the bucket.
Speed is great. Obviously the more sheets you put in at one time the slower it will be. Ideally 2 to 3 sheets is done very quickly; compared to the Rexel shredder I had previously. It can cope with 8 as advertised, but is much slower than 2 or 3, and will heat up the motor faster…
Not had the motor cut out due to heat as after a lot of sheets i could feel it was getting warm.
If I wanted a unit that could cut 8 sheets every time for a long time then I’d be talking 100’s in value for a business unit.
Does job very well.
Works very well, the cut is tiny, very impressive it’s almost like fluff. I have had cheaper shredders before that have broken and jammed with only a few sheets of paper but this is great. I don’t add too many sheets at once but 4-5 is no problem. I had accumulated a couple of carrier bags of papers and it got through this easily, although it did need a rest after 5 minutes running time. Ordinarily this is no issue. I like the safety feature which is one of the reasons I choose this item. It appears robust and even cut a credit card easily. Overall i am very pleased.
The Fellowes Micro Cut Shredder came nicely packed in its own box and well protected from any possible knocks or bumps.
The shredder is easy to use and very quiet compared to others I have owned in the past.
However, my only nick-pick is that it says it can take 8-pages but from my usage, it was happy to shred 4 pages but upon trying 8-pages, it did struggle. So, I wouldn’t recommend putting anymore than 4 or 5 pages.
As per instructional advice, I did use it for 5 minutes (at 4 pages per shred) and it didn’t get too hot.
So, if you follow the timing guidance and my suggestion of 4 pages at-a-time and regular oiling. It should last for some time to come. But only four stars due to struggling with 8-pages of 80gm paper.
It certainly does the shredding well and just what you would expect from a cross cut shredder. If you have alot of shredding as I did it does get hot quickly and the red warning light comes on and the shredder stops working. I found that it was best to use it for 5/6 minutes maximum. Then leave it for at least 30 minutes before starting again. The instructions do say leave it for 30 minutes if it overheats. A good product once you know its limits. Replaced my previous Fellowes shredder that I have passed on to another family member.
I actually ordered the wrong unit, correct letters and numbers but in the wrong order, item should have been M-8C 8 sheet cross cut, as this unit had given up the ghost, just died on me. So went onto site and noticed the 8Mc 8 sheet shredder, so ordered it not thinking.
When parcel arrived I noticed that it looked smaller, got it out, set it up, read through the operation and safety bits and started to shred. Then I noticed that it was a lot quitter than the old one, also noticed that with the MICRO CUT, it was a lot smaller cut than old one. As it is MICRO CUT it takes a lot longer to fill the bin up.
All in all I am glad that I made the mistake with the letters and number setup, certainly will only buy MICRO CUT machines from now on.
Would not like to put 8 sheets of paper through it, Max I will put through is 4/5 sheets dependent on thickness, as Fellowes state 70 gsm paper, have not found much that use 70 gsm, personally I use 80 gsm or 90 gsm paper in printer and photographs are anything from 265 gsm up to 310 gsm paper and only do them 1 at a time.
Small enough to be put under PC desk when not in use, light and is easily moved from room to room, hope that it lasts as the old unit did.
Always remember to oil the cutters one way or the other before use and during long periods of use.
This is perfect for home use. Would definitely recommend. Some pros, cons, and neutral points:
Pros:
– The micro cutting is just the best. The pieces are tiny (though a bit frustrating you can’t really see this in the advert).
– Device is smaller than I thought for 14L.
– Nice features, well labelled, buttons work well.
Cons:
– Some rogue pieces get through slightly larger, so watch out for that before you dispose of shredded items.
– Quite a few pieces remain stuck to the blades.
– Cable sticks horizontally out of the back making it impossible to put the shredder up against a wall.
– No handles or wells to help lift the whole device; wells on the side allow you to easily lift the shredder part. As it is designed for home use, you might not want it out all the time, so something to make it easier to lift would have been better.
Neutral points:
– The shredder is quite weighty, and so can be a little top heavy over the bin.
– It’s as loud as any other, older shredder. Doesn’t bother me for occasional use; but might be a concern for you.
