Ten year life, sometimes old stock is sold and the ten year life is compromised by being stood about in a warehouse for 5-6 years, (this still had good date on it) fits existing backplate, so really easy to fit,. To be fair they all come with an adhesive pad so even if you are a new user, and can’t use a screwdriver you should still be ok. Make sure you install in the correct places, I still go to people houses and see them installed in the dead air spaces in corners and alcoves, near coving etc, and they can’t work if the hot air and smoke don’t get to them.
Everything has been good since the new Alarm was fitted so no complaints I just needed someone to do it for me and they found it easy, decided to give the sealed for life this time which should be good.
Needed a new smoke alarm and when replacing others have used this brand before. They are easy to fix to the ceiling and clip into the fixing very easy. I like the idea that it has a built in battery and you don’t need to replace the battery in them.
Having listened to my alarm chirping every minute, and not having anybody around to help remove the whole unit, I found this product by googling what I would need. Ordered this in the evening and it arrived the next day. Grabbed my small steps and clicked it into place. Easy Peezy would highly recommend.
Nice looking detector, seems reliable so far. One star removed because I wall-mounted it and the screw holes don’t align in a sensible way so the writing is horizontal. I had to fiddle about a bit to get it straight!
So far so good, beeps when i press it and look good on the ceiling. easy to install with the supplied raw plug and screws.
have brought many of these for holiday lets. 🙂
It is an optical smoke alarm; smoke particles break a ‘beam’ to set off the alarm – it will resist most common false alarms like cigarette smoke and vaping – it is not an ionisation alarm where the subtle air changes associated with a fire sets its off. No smoke detector should ever be placed in an attic, that is where heat detectors excel.
Multiple mounting points in the base unit, so a screw straight into the centre hole has the base on the ceiling. The unit must be affixed to the base to work and test button is on a very reduced volume; pressing the test button button twice will get you full volume. No annoying led to be seen out of the ‘corner of your eye’. A ‘snooze’ button can allow you to stop the alarm should a late-night fry up get too smoky; also to postpone you needing to buy a replacement alarm in about 2034 when the low battery alarm chirps
Of course you will follow the excellent advice about monthly testing and quarterly vacuum cleaning, like all smoke detectors, or … you can leave it up until a beep tells you the in-built battery is exhausted and you press the low volume test button when you remember.
Have a look at yours. Does it have a ‘life’ marked on it. My 6 year old alarm says replace after 5 years. Low battery alarm is annoying so plumped for this. 10 year life claimed for resident battery – fit and forget (with periodic testing. Back/mounting plant has numerous ‘knock-outs’ so plenty of option on how to mount. Screws and plugs supplied or use your own. Neat unobtrusive unit.
It is difficult to review this product other than to say it replaces a previous fire angel fitted in my caravan. I will really only know how good it is if I have a fire. To date for no apparent reason it has gone off twice during the night, which is not what you want and the previous units battery certainly did not last ten years, only time will tell.
Upgraded my smoke alarm as my previous one broke after 2 years. It should have had a 10 year warranty but I couldn’t get the company to replace it so a new one had to be purchased
Bought this to replace an ST 622 which developed an annoying intermittent chirp that would start, stop and then re-occur days later. This had a ten year battery life expiring in 2028 so in some ways I feel cheated by needing to replace it.
Rather than hassle trying to explain the fault to Fire Angel I decided to buy a new one. This is the “new generation” and it fit directly onto the existing base plate, I pressed the test button and away we go! It has a replacement date of 2034 but I am sceptical either the unit or myself will reach the expiry date. I do not believe the battery guarantee of 10 years, or that the unit will not develop another problem long before 2034. Still, it’s peace of mind for just under 16.
Every credit to Amazon, their stock is certainly not old, their delivery was next day, and the unit was well packed and in pristine condition.
This item arrived today being next day delivery on Amazon Prime. My previous alarm was a ST-620 that had lasted the full recommended 10 years, so I decided to replace the alarm in preference to installing a new battery. The unit is compatible with the old fittings, but as a number of reviewers had stated problems with it locking up, I decided to play safe and screw the new base to the ceiling as it’s only two screws!
I list the positives below.
1. The base had numerous cut-outs for different screw fitting options, so very unlikely it would not replace any previous alarm.
2. The expiry date of the alarm is stated on the rear, if the battery needed replacement it was easily accessed. I did not remove the battery but it was a standard tagged 3v lithium battery, possibly either a 2/3a or a CR123, and was held in with a tie-wrap. I did not check the type for sure, but anyone handy with a soldering iron could replace it.
3. The test alarm was not very loud, so I tried it out with some real smoke. The actual alarm is a lot louder than the test facility.
4. If the alarm sounds, it can be silenced by a press of the test button, so there is no need to wave a towel across it to stop the alarm, which in my case usually goes off when the wife is doing the cooking.
5. It comes with a 5 year guarantee, but I’ve not put this to the test as it only arrived today.
Negatives:-
None that I’ve found so far. Like I said, I did not risk using the old fitting in case it locked into position.
I also cannot state the life span of the battery supplied, which in theory should be 10 years, the current price of it’s battery is around 4.50. If you do replace the battery, I recommend giving the alarm a good going over with a vacuum, and replacing the entire fitting after 10 years anyway.
