This has great functionality and comparable with other manufacturers like Garmin and Polar. The only thing I miss (or I haven’t found how to see it) is when you go up stairs other ones eg apple watch, tell you number of flights climbed.
Battery life is excellent.
Not a massive fan of the charging cable as I don’t see why it couldn’t be usb . My last Fitbit stopped retaining the charge and it turned out the cable was the problem but I thought it was the watch so hence buying a new one. Oh well
I was unsure whether to buy another fitbit as they rarely last much past the warranty period.
My partner has a Charge5 and it does have many functions and a bright colour display. My previous fitbit a Charge3 was very poor in sunlight, this Charge5 is far better.
It also has many health sensors, such as irregular heart rate and O2 monitoring.
Hopefully it will be reliable, if not I’ll update this review.
I bought this for my wife who thinks it important to know how many steps she takes, and how many calories she has burned off.
My contribution is to keep it running for her by telling her where she left the charger gizmo, how to “sync” it with her “app”, and how to change the dial so she can tell the time in the real world.
Luckily she sleeps like a log, so I don’t need to understand how to work the sleep tracking thing.
I wish I had bought her a pair of house slippers.
I’ve had fitness watches before, and I actually love this one, it’s was to use and has great features, the only downside I don’t like it is having to charge it so often, the charge doesn’t last more than 3 or 4 days.
I wanted this to track my steps as I’m calorie counting. I needed to replace my iwatch as I was sick of charging it every day and not being able to monitor my sleep as it was always charging.
I love this Fitbit battery lasts a week and it’s pretty accurate. Hubby wants one now
Got this after losing my last charge 5. I’ve had a few Fitbits and if you want an out and out fitness tracker this is the best Fitbit there is. Great charge time, loads of features and you can wear this on one wrist and a watch on the othe
I love my fitbit. Working in an office I am sitting down all day at a screen so my fitbit reminds me to get up and move about. It also tells me my heart rate too. Very pleased with the purchase
I bought this watch for my dad as a present and he never takes it off. Money well spent? I think so. I could bore you with all the things it does and how amazing it is and blah blah blah but truthfully, it’s a great product. I you want to keep track of stuff, buy this watch
The display is so clear and stands out, unlike my previous Charge 4 which was so difficult to read. The charger is brilliant, again no hit and miss whether it actually charged overnight. So my initial impressions are very very positive indeed.
Bought this to replace a clunky fitbit Versa. It is light and confortable, the screen is bright and easy to see in bright sunlight.
The battery drained very quickly, but after a restart and factory reset the battery has been fine.
I love this Fitbit so much. It was a long overdue upgrade from my Alta HR and I didn’t want a smartwatch since I always have my phone with me. I just needed a good tracker and this is exactly that. It’s easy to setup, use and sync and I like the additional ECG feature. Battery life is excellent – I charge once a week at best. Also it’s waterproof and automatically tracks my swims as well as other exercises. Tracking can be set manually too or turned off altogether. The strap however isn’t great. I liked the white however after about 4 weeks daily use, I noticed my skin was irritated and peeling. I switched to a non-branded fabric strap and my skin returned to normal with no scars. Great Fitbit, but beware of the non-breathable strap (hence -1 star)
I’m quite happy with this Fitbit apart from one gripe.
It does what it claims as far as I can tell, and the heart rate it records is not too far off that I get from a chest strap HRM. Sleep recording seems about right, although it’s not good at detecting that I’m awake in the morning sat reading in bed.
The app gives a good set of reports that provide a wealth of information for the user to spend hours looking at. Of course, it’s only useful if you choose to take steps to enhance your scores.
My gripe is that, as a cyclist, it insists on recording “steps” while I’m out on the bike. It does this even when I select “cycling” as an activity! That’s why I awarded 3 for accuracy. I get 1,250 – 1,500 steps for each 15 minutes on the bike! Bonkers. Checking chats on the web this “feature” has been highlighted by users since 2018 and Fitbit have obfuscated the whole issue. Now apparently they claim it’s a “feature to award steps for all types of activity”. So, the Charge 5 is hopeless if you want to record bike activity as distance and separately record Steps taken during the day. Apparently it does the same thing for swimming and other “non-step” activities. All it needs is an option to “not count steps when on this activity” – surely a simple software update that shouldn’t take 5 years to sort out.
Also using the GPS when on a bike ride eats the battery – don’t expect it to survive much more than an hour from fully charged. So, as a bike activity recording device – hopeless.
Battery life (without GPS use) is good – I’m getting a full week on a charge.
To conclude, neat, works well, good app but stupid recording of “steps” for non-walking activities.
My old Fitbit hr Alta gave up after several years. So this was the most obvious upgrade.
It is very easy to read apart from the battery percentage icon is too small.
I suffer from Afib, so liked the idea of the ECG monitor, but often get inconclusive readings.
It would get 5 stars if it wasn’t for these issues.
If you are going to look at a Fitbit and get the most out of it, then the Premier membership is a must! It is only with the membership do you get all the functionality that turns this from a simple tracker to a personal focused health device. The premier membership comes with a whole range of services. If it is a simple tracker then there are cheaper alternatives; pays your money, takes your choice! The Charge 5 is a great upgrade to my Inspire HR and a worthy replacement albeit with the known issue with the watch strap clip issue!!!!!!!!! If you are not aware the ‘pebble’ is attached to the strap by a very tiny spring loaded clip which seemingly, with not much more than a tug comes away! Very, very easy to loose as it so small and there are no Fitbit replacements for it! There are couple of online companies that sell a replacement but the reviews are very mixed! You can buy a pebble holding watch strap which is what people buy that have the issue, stopping you throwing it away. It seems a very small complaint but it is a significant design flaw, have a look at the Fitbit community page. Anyway mine came away as above but I have managed with a watch making toolset managed to fix (for the time being) the issue. Now the aesthetics & functionality. It sits great on my wrist and looks the business. I swapped the original silicon strap as it doesn’t breathe. I have ended up with a rash underneath as it captures, soap, body lotion, water and what ever ends up in a swimming pool! I bought an adjustable nylon strap on Amazon and it works a treat. Three weeks no rash! The increased functionality of the Inspire HR is great, allowing me to train smarter (with a Readiness score) which works! The more you train, the greater the physical stress the lower the scoring and a suitable training recommendations are made. I love the Fitbit app and is very comprehensive and detailed and is easy to follow. The screen on the Charge 5 is excellent and the glass
is scratch resistant. It is light, smooth and unobtrusive, and therefore there is no issue wearing 24×7; capturing all nocturnal activity!!!!!!! If you are going to invest in your health this is a great tracker. I am sure there are other equally as excellent trackers out there but you won’t have wasted your money, especially if you pick it up at one the Amazon sale days or buy a second hand one from the buy options.
I’ve been using the Fitbit Charge 5 for more than 6 months now, and I’ve been really impressed with it. It’s a great fitness tracker that offers a variety of features, including built-in GPS, stress management tools, sleep tracking, and 24/7 heart rate monitoring.
I really like the built-in GPS. It’s great for tracking my runs and bike rides, and it’s accurate enough that I can track my progress.
The stress management tools are ok – the EDA scan is an interesting feature. I do regret there’s no guided breathing app when it was available on the charge 3&4 as well as on the inspires.
The sleep tracking is pretty good, too. It can track my sleep stages and give me an overall score for my sleep quality. I’ve been able to use this information to make some changes to my sleep habits, and I’ve been sleeping better as a result.
Overall, I’m really happy with the Fitbit Charge 5. It’s a great fitness tracker that offers a lot of features for the price. If you’re looking for a comprehensive fitness tracker, I would definitely recommend it.
I was still using my trusty Fitbit Charge 2 but my boyfriend decided I needed a treat so bought me this.
As a female one of my fave features is how easy it is to change straps. I like to alternate per day / outfit etc. Another handy feature is getting notifications for texts, messenger & WhatsApp and phone call alerts via this model.
1 feature I’m not keen on is the display faces. You can’t design your own. You pick from a selection then some let you change info displayed.
I’ve had Fitbit watches for a number of years and as my grandson requested a tracker for his birthday the charge 5 seemed to work all round. I had one of the original charge tracker some years ago and my wife still uses the charge 2 and this updated model with its colour screen is a huge improvement on a device that already worked well. Good quality and a very good website, although the six months premium subscription will probably not be used by an 11 year old. This is a top rate tracker at a reasonable price.
I had a Fitbit Charge 4 and because of the lack of instructions, when a strap broke, I broke the watch trying to get the broken strap off, but I was impressed with the watch so I bought the Charge 5. Again there is a complete lack of operation instructions and you have to endure the youtube instructions. It has taken me some time to set up the watch as I want it especially for the activities, now I am quite happy with the Tracker. As to its accuracy I cannot really comment.; I have nothing to test it against. As an aside, I had over the last few years tried 4 similar items and have not been happy with them, 2 I got my money and 2 I gave to charities. I do like the depth of information the app gives on my mobile phone or my iPad.
Yes you can get cheapo fitness watches 30% the price of the Charge 5 (UK), but I tried one of those last year and it was a total waste of time. Display was virtually invisible in daylight, accuracy was poor and functions very limited. The Charge 5 is head and shoulders above them. The display is awesome, the navigation easy to use and intuitive and the supporting phone app very informative and helpful. Of course, it doesn’t offer the accuracy and functionality of apple and android super smart watches, but frankly, I am not there yet. (I dont really need functions that I use my phone for on my watch as well). My wife was so impressed with the positive impact the watch had on my fitness regime she got one as well! She loves it just as much as I do.
I bought a different strap as I did not get on with the rubber one it came with (I have sensitive skin) but that was no big deal. My wife was super happy with hers. Battery life is amazing. We leave our watches on day and night and only charge once every five days or so… We’ve had the watches over a month now and have no regrets – though I am told not to expect much more than 18 months 2 years life expectancy. Time will tell and maybe I will update this review as and when it expires!
If you’re looking for a good entry level fitness watch to help kickstart your health plans then look no further.

Not going to go overboard on this as I only use it for steps, exercises and telling the time so this is not a review for all the lycra gym bunnies. It replaces a Charge 2 so obviously it’s all different and in glorious technicolour but to my mind some of it is a backward step, some graphics are so small they render them pointless if you’re at the gym sweating your nuts off and want to see at a quick glance how you’re doing – don’t expect to have to put my glasses on The battery life icon is especially ridiculously small to read. Don’t get me wrong, it does the fitness bit but all this added on stuff- pay for your coffee, receive texts etc not relevant. But there again I’ll no doubt get used it!!!
Plenty of functions but have deducted one star because it does not have the stairs/uphill function that previous Charges have. Much better way of charging the battery. Clear screen.
I have been a regular Fitbit user for years now, and my Fitbit of choice has always been the Fitbit Charge series. I got this one as an update from my Fitbit Charge 4.
I usually get an upgrade because the strap breaks. That has been one constant about all Fitbit Charges, the hardware is robust and keeps on working. But it is the strap or the strap hinges that break.
The Charge 4 had plastic hinges for the strap, and once they had gone it was time for a new Fitbit.
Thankfully the Charge 5 has metal hinges for the strap, so that issue should not affect this model. But the soft plastic straps usually last between one and two years, and then you need to buy a new strap.
Previous Fitbit Charges have always had monochrome displays, so moving to a colour display on the Charge 5 is a huge deal. It is so much better. It is also a touch screen now, and you swipe left, right, up or down to navigate. No more pressing the button on the side to navigate. So the navigation is really easy now.
The Charge 5 also has the EDA Scan and the ECG. The EDA Scan measures your stress levels, you need to pinch the metal contacts on either side on the Fitbit for three minutes with your fingers, and then report how calm you feel, and the score shows up in the app on your phone.
The ECG is similar, again you need to pinch the metal contacts on the Fitbit for 30 seconds, and then it reports your heart health. Normal sinus rhythm means good. You can then see the results on your phone.
I had to do a firmware update on the Fitbit Charge 5 before the ECG appeared as an option on the Fitbit.
Overall I am really happy with my upgrade to a Fitbit Charge 5, the colour screen makes it look great. The navigation is now easy via the touch screen. It has EDA and ECG scans built in.
It is the best Fitbit Charge I have had so far.
I’ve had the charge 3 for years and because it decided to pack up on me I went for the charge 5 because I find a lot of the other fitness watches quite bulky. It logs more than the charge 3 which is good and the screen is clearer as well. I have rated it 4 because the battery doesn’t seem to last as long as the charge 3 battery did. I am charging it up every 3-4 days whereas the charge 3 would last over a week
This is my second fitbit. Overall, I love it but not for swimming. One of the main reasons I bought it was for swimming. It doesn’t track what you are doing well (OVER stating) and really doesn’t like the water so starting it is a nightmare and stopping it often has to wait until i’m back in the car. However, if you are buying it for anything other than swimming then I highly recommend it.
Having tried other trackers (including a different Fitbit) and returning all of them, I absolutely love this one. It looks really good, works well and the premium trial is packed with loads I have yet to explore. The accuracy is not a 100% but I am still not sure if this is the tracker or errors on my part! Also, if I were not being really vigilant about following Fitbit’s `Wear and Care’ recommendations my skin would badly rash, so I am really happy that after six weeks I am still able to wear it pretty much most of the time. Probably, the most important bit is that it is not only motivating me to exercise but also to try to improve my sleep quality. It really is brilliant…
I used to use Fitbit, but have had an Apple Watch for the last 4 years. It had finally had it, so I opted for this Fitbit as a replacement. It’s a great tracker, and does the basics very well (superior to Apple Watch in terms of activity and sleep tracking).
Knocked off one star as it would be great if it had a side button to activate/deactivate screen, as the double tap thing can be a bit annoying at times.
I bought this in the Prime Early Access sale as an upgrade to the Charge 4 I’d had for quite a while – great value especially with 6 months of Fitbit Premium included, as I was previously paying 7.99 a month for this. It really is a good and worthwhile upgrade now that all the features promised at launch are available. The AMOLED colour screen is orders of magnitude better than the Charge 4’s black and white screen and I was able to find a home screen design that I like quite easily. I find the watch to be very responsive and the menus are all pretty intuitive. Battery life seems good so far, I’ve been using it non-stop since Wednesday and it’s at 53%. All in all I’m really pleased with it.
I bought the Charge 5 at launch, so I was a bit concerned by the reviews about poor GPS tracking as that was one of the key reasons I wanted it (that and the colour screen). I’ve found it to be comfortable, it does everything it is supposed to and my experience of the GPS tracking is that it is very good. Battery life is excellent, it obviously depends on how you use it but I get about a week between charging up. I’m using the free 6 months trial of Fitbit Premium at the moment, I doubt I will continue with that as it seems to offer very little that I need above normal functionality – but it’s a free trial so I can’t knock it.
Pros:
Functionality is good, has all the features I need.
GPS tracking, heart rate tracking, step count, all seem accurate.
OEM strap is comfortable to wear all the time – I haven’t felt I needed to try other straps yet.
Great battery life
Cons:
The screen, while colour, isn’t as large or as bright as my old Samsung Gear Fit 2 (from 2016).
Related to the above, the watch faces aren’t as vibrant or detailed as I would like.
The device has frozen a couple of times, needed to be resurrected from the app.
I’d give it 4 1/2 stars if I could due to the cons above, but if you want a good all round tracker then the Charge 5 is a great option and I would recommend it.
I was on an Ispire 2 before upgrading to the Charge 5. I have had it over a week now and can offer a review on how I have found it. Initially I had the ‘always on’, a feature I liked, however it really does reduce the battery time to about 3 days. When I switched it off the battery lasted 7 day with 35% left to spare, very happy with that and in fact I didn’t need the always on display and could easily do without.
It picked up automatically any exercises I did, during the course of the week I did 3 swimming sessions and it picked up each one automatically, although when I went to turn the fitness swim on myself, because my hands were wet it didn’t allow me to swipe on the exercise part of the fitness tracker. Overall very happy, although I need to contact Fitbit to find out why I am still paying for premium each month!!
