I purchased this to take pipe temp readings on a problem refrigeration job. With 3 probes connected I quickly found issue I was having. I let this machine log every 30 seconds for 48 hours and it worked flawlessly. I have no complaints about the machine. The instruction book is hard to read, the print is so small and my eyes can’t read the fine print anymore. Had to print off manual from internet to make it legible. Seems typical with manuals now a day. Would recomend if you need a temperature data logger.
I bought this 4 channel Temperature Data logger to analyse a Samsung Heat Pump.
The Logger records the temperatures of four K type thermocouples , putting the results into an Data file on an SD Card. The logger comes with only two bare wire K type Thermocouples.
On tying to attach the bare wire K type thermocouples on to copper piping proved to be very difficult, if not impossible , so, I purchased Four K Type pipe Clamps.
With the K type pipe clamps I could, finally, explore the other functions on the logger.
The logger is very dated in it’s presentation with commands displayed in a dated, very difficult to read character set. The Logger , once “set up ” is very simple , and accurate in use.
The Results are dumped to an SD card in very large , but easily read list format.
So, an Accurate , simple device that should be supplied with Clamp K Type sensors .
The character set used should be replaced ASAP.
However, an Simple device at a very reasonable price.!
Six months on , the Device is still working flawlessly taking Dailly readings of a suspect Heat Pump!
Easy to use. Doesn’t require a degree in programming to operate.
Easy to use, captures data and is very easy to load to Excel for analysis.
Very good product, was very accurate and has very reasonable cos
Lots of great functions, good construction, relatively easy to use.
Export to Excel and use “DATA” > “DATA TOOLS” > “COLUMN SEPARATOR”
Worked well out of the box and is still very useful in monitoring temperature tests.
The users manual is reasonable and setup is straight forward.
Logged data is a .txt file but is not tab- or comma-delimited. Records are separated by an inconsistent number of space characters, so getting the data file into a usable Excel file format requires several find and replace operations. Not a big deal, but somewhat inconvenient and strange that the manufacturer doesn’t format the log file properly as logged.
I use it in my laboratory. Very easy to use and it gives me accurate readings. Have been using it for a week and everything works well. Will purchase again in this store.
I’m using this to monitor the efficiency of my boiler system. The 4-channels are good. I tested in an Ice bath and boiling water, Using the offset feature, I was able to calibrate all the channels within a couple of tenths of a degree of each other well within the advertised specification. I also compared it to my fluke meter. The unit generates a CSV file when logging. I was able to take the generated CVS file and import to OpenOffice to plot the temperatures in and out of the boiler and each zone to calculate the thermal energy being used by each zone. I was using this to adjust the water flow speed to ensure that the water spent enough time in the pipe circulating in each zone to properly heat my floor.
Pros:
Uses standard k-type thermal couplers.
The display is easy to read each channels temp
Uses a standard power supply 9V 1.5A Center Positive 5.5mm X 2.1mm connector
Logs to a CSV file, configurable sample rate
Cons:
The display turns off when logging mode is operational
While you can figure out the manual, its hard to read poorly translated English
The probes that come with the unit are very short (glad the K-type probes are cheap)
All in All, I do recommend this unit.
Overall, a good product for a good price. The instructions could be written better. The thermocouples are prone to pick up electrical noise. Also, the unit lacks a circuit for allowing two thermocouples to be in electrical contact with each other. For example, if one TC is on a piece of metal and another TC is on a separate piece of metal, if the two pieces of metal touch, the display result is erroneous.
Tut was es soll.
Great piece of equipment, good features, works exactly as the ad says, runs on batteries or optional mains adaptor which isn’t included.
Works great for our application. The alarms and logging are nice features as well as the dc in port to avoid batteries.
I purchased to monitor cylinder head temperature of my experimental aircraft that I’m building. The unit worked great out of the box but when I installed it and ran the motor I got erroneous reading, I contacted the seller and they provided a lot of help to diagnose the problem. That turned out to be electronic interference, so by rerouting the leads my problem was solved. Thanks to Gain Express ***** five star service
I purchased this logger for less than half the cost of the “economy” “big name” product. I am using it for a private development project and could not be happier with its performance. The instructions are a little clunky, but get to the point quickly. Overall, I am impressed by how well made this instrument is: the case is sturdy; the LCD display is clear and functional; and the buttons cannot be pressed by a kitten (from experience)! Should I need another 4 channels, this is what I will buy.
Works great. Temperatures seem to be accurate. Logging to SD card works very well. In made some nice charts in Excel with the data I captured. Operation is not intuitive but the included manual explains what you need to know.
Works great for displaying and saving (to the included 8GB SDHC memory card) four(4) channels of thermocouple temperature data. Then you need a USB SD-card reader (or some other mechanism) to get the data into your PC. No special software required. The resulting text files are easy to read, and include date, time, and 4 channels of temperature data. Having the 2×2 temperature display, instead of a 1×4 list, really helped in our application. As others have indicated, the readings tend to jump around a bit (perhaps up/down 3 degrees C) in the presence of electrical devices, a design defect which ought to be corrected. Others have complained about the instructions included, perhaps they have been upgraded, they weren’t perfect but they were pretty good. We were up and running in short order, and this device paid for itself on the first day of usage. You may as well also purchase “9V 1.5A AC/DC Power Adapter for Arduino, Tbuymax UL Listed Center Positive 5.5mm x 2.1mm Power Supply…” to save on batteries and enable long-period usage. Overall a good product deserving of your consideration.
I’ve been using for logging flow and return temps. on my central heating system over the winter period.
One word sums it up, brilliant. Has worked faultlessly. Am amazed at the battery life.
The only mod. was to buy and SD cards extension lead from ebay so I could leave the logger in situ and easily remove the SD card for loading the data on my PC
I found this to be accurate and the data can be manipulated in Excel to make graphs etc. I left it in place for 2 weeks and the battery was still showing full. The cost is a lot less than similar products sold by specialists.
I recorded attic and house temps every 5 sec for two weeks in July. Worked well even with the cheapo batteries it came with. Directions kind of suck but you can figure it out.
Actually its cheaper price compared with its counterparts drew my attraction and at first I hesitated about purchasing.
Then I consider to risk my money and purchased this item last week.
Packaging was good and delivered in a week from UK to Turkey which was fantastic.
The device does as I wrote in the title what it is supposed to do but works a bit lazy.
You should press the buttons again and again to configure and user’s manual should be a bit more assistive.
It took about an hour to understand to configure the time interval settings since it does not clearly shows which unit of time I’ll use such as seconds, minutes or hours. It just shows numbers and some weird units 😉
Although it has 4 channels, there are 2 K-Type Termocouple connectors in the package which is also described in package contents but in my opinion this should be warned more precisely in the item description.Anyway I’ll order another 2 termocouples and I hope everything will be fine.
It would be perfect if only the device had an USB connector and could be directly connected to computer rather than ejecting SD card.
Anyway despite its cheaper price and my hesitations, I feel comfortable that I didn’t waste my bucks and the device works well for now.
I’m using to record temps in my burnout kiln to figure out what is going on in my flasks. I bought some fiberglass insulated thermocouples so I can track flasks as they go up to 1350F. It tracks great, it’s accurate (I always have a control), and outputs an easy to use flat file.
I would recommend this and I will actually probably buy another one. I went from 0 to 4 inputs and now I kinda want 8 😛
It’s a great option for those non critical measurements that require precise data. Not that this unit is not accurate. It’s easy to use and easy to retrieve the data. I don’t know how long the batteries last and is my only draw back when I need to run the logger for hours at a time, but so far I haven’t had any problems.
Generally pleased with data logger. I’ve been testing it pretty extensively, battery last a long time. It’s great having all the data in a .txt file I can export into exel. Certainly can’t beat it on price. Tested the thermocoulples in an ice bath, seemed to be calibrated well.
My only caveat is that I was doing some testing in with some fairly high electrical noise (Giant CT’s producing 200 Amps) and that seemed to throw off the data. The temperature was jumping up and down 20 degrees – not sure if that’s the thermocouples or the logger. Testing with a Fluke Multimeter and it’s thermocouples did not react to the electrical noise. But other than that I haven’t had any problems.
I bought this product as I needed to monitor several thermocouples at once without the use of a laptop – This product does what I need. The data is stored onto a removable SDHC Card which is then easily uploadable to a computer.
The only reason I give this 4/5 stars and not higher is because the manual is lacking information, IE how to set the date and time (American format Btw) and how to change the time gap between measurements. This doesn’t take too long to work out with a little patience. The data is saved in a single line to a text file, if you want to open it in excel you have to load it as a space delimited set of data (meaning where there is a space excel will make a new column) – it’s not a hassle.
There are two holes on the back of the logger which you can use to hang it like a picture, I have got some M3 bolts attached to magnets which I use to magnetise the logger to the steel wall.
Overall a good product which I look forward to using
