In some ways I love my Nest WiFi in other ways I hate it. Put simply it’s great if you don’t know much about home networking and your not a gamer. It looks nice and it works but don’t expect to be tinkering with the settings much at all, there aren’t many you can.

I am very happy. It arrived next day and so far works a treat.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersLook nice and very easy to set up but if you’re buying to replace the standard current (2022) virgin router then don’t. I ended up having to buy the nest additional point just to get it back to the power of signal which my virgin hub used to kick out. But – if you’re in the google echo system you’ll enjoy the extra control over your tech. Kind of worth it.

Set up 3 to create a mesh network, I have a BT router modem combo, simple to set up and great wifi signal throughout the house and garden.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI live in a large basement flat with very thick walls. The BT router would get 65Mb in the living room but most of the flat didn’t get a signal at all.

I tried various powerline wifi extenders and at best would get 30Mb with 5 extenders but with constant problems, needed power cycled every few days, drop our and problems with certain makes of device.

Now with a Google router and 3 points I get a solid 60-72Mb through out the flat. Took about 30 minutes to get everything setup. Google Assistant (points only) is an added bonus and they are compact and elegant. Only had them 5 days but so far they have just worked.

So stable and fast I’ve moved everything to wifi, which has the added bonus of making things simpler with everything being on the same network.

Not the cheapest but for this quality, happy to pay the premium.

If you can afford it this is brilliant, super fast and stable range is good, set up was super easy….. part of a 2 hub 1 point set up!

    Just works…. but was expensive!

I purchased the Nest Router as an addition to 3 Google Wifi pucks that I already owned.
I have a Draytek 130 router instead of trying to use a ISP router as a modem, no issues with double NAT that way.
My house is modern 124sqm detached with paper walls and brick exterior, and there is no way the Nest on its own would cover the house. Using the 3 pucks scattered across both floors gives perfect coverage all the way out to the back of the garden which is approx 20m away from the router, but only 10 m away from the nearest pucks.
I would recommend using a stand alone modem, for approx 80 it really does simplify the setup, which in itself is really straightforward.
I do recommend this product, but don’t believe the coverage stats, and that really does apply to any router I have ever owned. Be realistic and assume that a puck or node for every 2 or 3 rooms is needed.

Amazing change to my home WiFi – definitely recommend this – easy to set
Changed my family experience with tech
I do have some other Google products and they all communicate really well plus can manage individual internet access and loads more besides

Don’t believe anything about this not working with Sky. I use sky and have never had an issue. You simply login to your sky router, disable Wi-fi, connect the sky router to the new nest router using the rj45 cable, configure the new nest router and off you go! Literally takes five/ten mins to setup.
I had so many issues with the sky router before this, from phones dropping off network to xboxes disconnects. This solved everything.
Wi-fi speed is much better too.
Get one, follow the instructions and you won’t be disappointed!

easily the best mesh network available for homes, i have 1 router and 3 points, covers a 5 bedroom house with ease, also get wifi in the garage and at the end of the garden (which is not huge but 20 meters)

Easy to setup with the app and great features on the app which are always being improved

I was getting frustrated with my wifi from a certain major supplier and was forced to go with them due to being in a new build. After looking around the internet I saw that this Google router was getting rave reviews and do not regret buying it. The difference in speed is phenomenal. When I did the speed test it was no competition. Recommended.

Best decision of 2021! It’s been difficult getting quality connection with everyone working from home. This router is an absolute life saver. It’s a shame it does not have WiFi 6 built in, but for now I think WiFi 5 is more than enough for my use case. It’s super easy to set-up and I have not experieince a single drop-out or connection issue since installing (touch wood). I’ve also recently bought a Wi-Fi Point to increase the range, I would highly recommend this for signal strength between floors.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersLike all mesh routers, this works by broadcasting wifi between the router and points elsewhere in the house which then broadcast their own wifi signal. It wins on ease of use and set up by comparison with more complex mesh/router set ups. For a majority of people, this is the best approach. A couple of points to note:
-You cannot split the 2.4 and 5ghz bands, which can sometimes be a problem for some devices.
-It works best if you remove your broadband providers router if connected to FTTP and connect direct to your modem.
-You can have too many points – I used to have 5, but cut that to 3 and my signal improved.
-The built in parental controls are free and excellent if you consider many brands charge extra or don’t include these (Orbi).
-This is effortless when it comes to compatibility with streaming and cloud services.
-You can certainly buy faster and more impressive (on paper) mesh routers these days, but the Google Nest system just works and I would take reliability over speed everytime.

With my partner and I working from home, we needed to upgrade the reach and strength of our WiFi coverage. With two units we placed one downstairs, hardwired to the router, and the other upstairs relaying wirelessly. Now I have a 96% signal strength to my office upstairs. Added benefit is that the bedroom XBox has as good a signal as the one downstairs in the living room. (All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy)

Best WiFi router I’ve purchased in a long time, 100% worth the money. If you like security then it has the new WPA3 which my laptop instantly recognised and connected without any issues. Works inline with the Google Home app.

An amazing mesh WiFi system without an insane price tag

This product is amazing, offers fantastic controls of the WiFi usage in the property, and allows for schedules to be set to give the kids a break from the internet.

Very reliable signal, amazing coverage and incredible controls.

The wi-fi isn’t as strong as our original TalkTalk router. I had to buy an additional point but it’s still not got a great signal in the furthest parts of the house.

Such a good upgrade to Virgin’s Hub 3. Put the Virgin router in bridges mode and plug this into it and you’ll see a world of difference. Love how you can see when the kids ipads are being used and even restrict their usage too. Amazing difference

Installed this after having a large extension and struggled with wifi around the new rooms. Chose these as it links to my Nest doorbell so I have a couple more speakers for door announcements and for music. Only frustrating part was buying this item on the Amazon Google store and it came from China so the nice plugs now sit in converters. There wasn’t a single note that these were from China. Careful with Etch Fit!

Works well with 1st generation of Google WiFi .. you need to use Google Home to manage the WiFi as Google WiFi app is no longer valid due to having nest.

Breaks connection with router at least once or twice a day for round 20-60 seconds. It appears to be doing this more and more. Six times yesterday. Check main router no signal problems from it. Wil keep checking over following week as on on holiday, see how many times signal drops out over this period.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI bought a couple of Nest Wifi Routers and have them connected by ethernet.

The setup is pretty straight forward and the speed is fine when using an ADSL or Fibre Broadband connection i.e. 100Mbps download speed or less. At that speed the loss between nodes is limited and the system runs pretty reliably.

For faster connections there are a couple of limitations to be aware of:

    – on a 1Gig connection the max wifi speed is around 500Mbps even with a Cat6/7 cable from the router – so Nest loses around 50% of the bandwidth
    – when the satellite nodes are running in wireless mesh mode the speed falls off further
    – the upload speed experience is similar – my nest setup loses around 50% of the bandwidth

One big issue with the nest router that I only discovered by reading posts on reddit is that the dual gigabit ethernet ports aren’t physically connected – i.e. the router uses software to “bridge” between the ports.

The result of this is that even with a fast (1000Mbps) download speed going in to the main nest router, any device that is physically wired in to the second port (or connected to a switch connected to the port) will have a max speed of c600Mbps. This is pretty poor as it’s not made clear in the documentation that google provide.

The one final issue to be aware of is that Google can and do use the data from your router to add to their profiling of individuals – so there’s a huge privacy concern to be aware of for anyone that connects to a network of google routers.

I have two nest routers and a nest point, which creates a strong WiFi mesh network in my house. No dead spots at either 2.4ghz or 5ghz. Slightly expensive for the set up I have, but it really works and solves WiFi drop out/dead spot issues. Rather than use this with my ISPs router, I’ve hooked up the primary nest router to a BT Openreach modem – avoids the double NAT issue so many seem to have.

I like the fact it’s google, I want to use it as a main hub, but, so few ports in it perfect to boost and its small sise can make it easier to attach long ethenet cabless into.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersBought this new router for the gain in signal strength, and it works!! Cosmetically they are a great improvement over the first gen, they work very well incorporating the 1st gen Pucks I have, BUT!! the only advice I can give is make sure you return all 1st gen Pucks including the one used as the 1st gen router to *Factory settings* otherwise you get frustrated! Like I did “silly Billy” it’s a little bit of a chew getting the new 2nd gen router to recognise the 1st gen points, takes a little while but worth it in the end.

Bought this to replace my virgin router (3rd edition I think)

To be honest the signal is slightly weaker than my virgin router. However, it has the ability to form a mesh and better integration with Google home and related services.

I would advise buying the router and point combo in anything bigger than a small house with numerous walls. You’ll need the additional point so might as well save some money by buying the bundle.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI now have 3 Google Nest Wifi Routers and 2 Wifi Points dotted around my house, which was built in the 1950’s and has solid brick walls. Prior to purchasing my Google Nest Wifi I was receiving 87mbps down on my 350mbps plan from Virgin Media. I’m now receiving between 360 and 375mbps download speeds consistently throughout my house.
The router and wifi points look good in any room (or shed).

5.0 out of 5 stars No more WiFi blackspots

Golden Review Award: 74 From Our UsersHands down the best and easiest setup I’ve come across, and I’ve tested quite a few, settled in this one.
I’ve read many reviews about “don’t buy if you have Sky etc” but this is all user error. It’s also wrong that this is labelled a router, but it’s a point. It’s a router, a Nest router. There is a Nest point, but this is not that. The Nest router plugs into your existing router. You log into your existing ISP router and disable the WiFi. 2 mins later via the Google app, scan the barcode and set up your Nest, literally 5 mins later it’s up and working. Double NATting is not an issue, not in the slightest, online gaming etc is flawless. You can also add the point, again scan the barcode and 2 mins later it’s configured. I have 2 Nest routers and a point, all working just fine together. The 2 routers are cabled for back haul and are faster than the points. A Guest WiFi is also an option for those who want to turn it on, along with parental controls, safe search and the ability to turn off the WiFi on devices as and when you want.
    At 109 it’s a steal.

Not too sure how you rate it’s ‘thickness’ but I guess in literal terms it is very thick, hardy and durable but anyway.

The product may a reliable and strong WiFi connection which is obviously what you want but this router must be connected to another WiFi router with an actual internet provider.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersAlready had a 2 pack of the original Google WiFi. Unfortunately I was having some issues not being able to obtain my max internet speed (I’m fortunate to have 900 meg broadband from BT).

Upgraded the main router to the Nest hub and happily seeing my 900 meg now

Google WiFi / Nest WiFi is fab. It just works. If Apple made a router, this is what it would be.

If you want something which you can setup and not worry about, this is for you

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersGreat.. needed to improve Wi-Fi in a congested neighbourhood.. using on virgin .. had to leave the shub3 in full mode but turned off the Wi-Fi on the super hub… now working great… went for a router/point and then got a second router to use as a point for stronger signal… considered Wi-Fi:6 but went with this as it’s been around a while.. Google’s interface is pretty good.. guessing as close to plug and play as you can get…

Golden Review Award: 17 From Our UsersI’m a Google wifi user and have 3 of the old units dotted around the house and recently had issues with lack of reception back garden as well as internet running slow (not to be mistaken to ISP and ISP hardware or DNS as using Cloudfare DNS)

Adding this unit wasn’t straight forward as I had to reset the old Google wifi routers to factory before setting up new one as master.
Took 3 attempts only mainly down to my own fault of not following instructions and thinking i know how to do it.
Once Nest wif setup and using the new app for mobile, everything else fell in to place.
Old Google wifi routers powered on and Nest wifi picked up and joined to new home wifi SSID. Second, third all joined without any issues and once placed in desired rooms, all devices connected without fault.

Decided to use the original Google wifi master router as a spare for loft room and again, reset device and nest wifi picked up to join.

I’m glad to say that I now have 2 bar reception in my garage that’s 20 meters back of garden where before, nothing.

internet downloads a breeze as I can monitor daily on speeds as well as mesh signal strengths.

Now at home, I’m completely wifi and no more home plugs since this unit has altogether removed the need for it.

If I had the monies, I would have replaced all old Google wifi with Nest model but seems to be working as required for now.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersBest known for his advertised no dead wifi spots I decided to try make a Mesh with 3 routers instead normal Router + Access Point combination.
Seems to be working with the secondary routers as access points providing Lan connectivity instead of assistant features.
15 – 20 meters range between primary and access points I get 250 – 270 Mbps Wifi speeds between them from max 360 on main router…

the design is great and does not seem to heat much.

while working on VPN for 10 hours the connection was stable.
annoying that you cannot use them as bridged mesh as for eero but if you want wifi without to much need to go into settings seems to be a good solution.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersThis is a great router for any broadband service. I initially purchased two routers as I wanted the option to have an Ethernet out on each unit. The nest point doesn’t have an Ethernet connection hence why I opted for more routers instead which work flawlessly. I would highly recommend. Setup is easy.

Please do bear in mind that for larger or odd shaped houses you are likely to need more than 2 to give you better coverage. So I’ve actually got 4 routers which I appreciate is expensive but gives the coverage I need to be truly wireless ( with a Ethernet option should I choose) across my entire house!

Golden Review Award: 37 From Our UsersI got this to expand my existing Google wifi mesh network, so this as a new router + 2x older style Google wifi units setup as points on the mesh. Super easy to install and works flawlessly. Also to confirm, this is definity a Google Nest Wifi Router, another review here on Amazon seems to be confused on the matter. For others looking to buy, highly recommended.
