After my old printer gave up ( was quite old ) thought I would try this printer .
It’s the newer version of my old one .

Fast printer. Fast scanner. Easy to set up and use. Great quality prints and scans. The only thing I’d like is for HP’s scan software to use the full screen instead of a small window.
With scanning it is rapid, however it doesn’t do double side, which is disappointing as almost every letter I get is double sided.
Easy to set up and use from the moment I plugged it in. Reminds me of the older larger office machines, but small, quiet and fast!

Works well, does what it says on the tin.. prints like a printer what else can you say!
Warranty started from the date of manufacture so when it arrived it only had 11 Months Warranty remaining, how can HP get away with this . If it remained with the seller for 2 or 3 month you would loose that amount of Warranty.

So far, the printer works. The Windows’ app that connects printer with Windows 10 is not good at all. It is not intuitive and some important features are missing. Paper size always starts with US default size “letter” and we in the UK use A4 as the default, etc., so every time I want to print something I have to go to the properties and press my own default that I set up, which is frustrating. Printing labels does not work properly and when you try to print the whole page, it looks that it fits in the “letter” size (not A4) although I set it up for the A4, etc. For the app itself, I would give barely two stars (if not one), but as I said, printer works OK so far (I only have it for less than a month), so the time will show.
This works well. Maybe the print quality is a bit less good than my previous printer but it’s way easier to use and I can actually make it scan properly. Although sometimes it insists on scanning pages upside down and you need a PDF editor to fix it? Weird. Ink is expensive, of course. Has an annoying flashing light if you leave it in sleep mode. Overall pretty happy with it.
DIsable the auto-update feature if you want to use non-HP toner. It’s entirely unnecessary and you can still manually trigegr an update. No need to tell HP ecerything about your printing habbits and allow them to disable third-party printer cartridges in future (not my conspiracy theory, it’s HP’s own explanation to “protect” you). You can disable it on the printer and/or in the windows software. I did it before first use.
Duplex works reliably, even with thicker 120g/sqm paper.
I was surprised (didn’t check pre-purchase 🙁 that the scanner only offers 600 dpi. It’s easy to use and integrates well with both Mac and Woindows software. My older b/w HP laserjet offeredup to 1200 dpi. Surprised they halfed it. Sacans do look good and colours of 1:1 copies are very close to the original.
Overall a good looking addition to the home office. Prints quickly with not much noise. Easy to use. Recommend.

Added after 9 months of using the printer:
The control panel/display must have been bolted on by HP’s marketing department, because it’s position is very unfortunate. Whenever you want to use the flatbed scanner, the display gets in the way. Could heve been mounted an inch lower or made half an inch shorter, but no. Resulted in a number of wringled pages in books and brochures I tried to scan. With decades of experience in the field, you would think HP should know better.
The print quality remains excellent, and with very moderate use (200 pages total I reckon), I am still running on the toner that came with the device.
First print after longer periods of sitting idle takes annoyingly long (about a minute). Also annoying is that the device comes to live every now and then (to avoid burn-in I presume) and that is super annoying if you have it in your home office and wonder what’s going on and if the wife started a print while you’re on a zoom call. After 30 seconds rumbling the printer finally shuts up and goes back to sleep.
While annoying, those issues are all rather minor and the main plus is the excellent print quality, high print speed, good scanning quality and speed and reliable operation. I recommend this printer and would buy it again, knowing everything I do know now.
Paid an absolutely bargain price of 299, and with a 100 cash back offer from HP, even better.
Setup was quick and easy, all devices (mainly Macs) connected wirelessly with no problems. It’s a bit big compared to the old printer, but that was expected. Printing is quick and fantastic quality in b&w and colour. Worlds apart from the old inkjet.
Only real issue is the absolute shock of the price of laser jet ink cartridges! I know that this is how manufacturers really make their money, so had assumed these would be expensive, but it turns out a full set of official HP cartridges actually cost more than the printer! (And that was before the cashback offer!).
Of course I should have done my research before hand – but then if I had I probably wouldn’t have bought it, and having lived with it, this cost will be worth it for me – just. Of course your calculus may be quite different!
Anyway – as long as you factor that into your purchase – a strong recommendation.
Brilliant printer let down by its inability to stay connected to the network.
Our (Ubiquiti) network is brilliant for every device except this printer, it seems unable to retain its connection, so almost every time we use it we need to cycle the power.
This is a massive shame as it is a very, very good when it does print things.
I’m going to see if I can run a network cable to it…….
After spending a fortune on replacement inkjet cartridges due to my wife printing newsletters etc for members of her church during lockdowns, I decided to look into colour laserjet alternatives. I chose this HP model partly due to reputation, the size, and the fact the drums are included within the replacement toner cartridges. I had also owned a couple of HP mono laserjet printers which had given good service.
Installation was straight forward without any real issues, except with the configuration of the ‘scan to folder’ option. This proved to be a real headache to get working with Windows 10 as a simple sharing of a folder didn’t work. My MacBook worked first time using an IP Address.
When the printer was first powered up I found it very noisy, although I had nothing to compare it to except my old mono printer. In reality I’ve got used to it, as apart from power on calibration it only makes a noise when it’s actually printing something, which doesn’t take very long. I found that scanning documents on the flatbed sounded very coarse compared to previous scanners I’ve owned which just whir away smoothly. The scanned results however are fine. I find the touch screen to be a bit on the small size, even though I have slim fingers. Care has to be taken with selections as it’s easy to accidentally select the wrong thing if working quickly.
It’s too early to say whether there will be a noticeable saving on running costs compared to the old inkjet, but hopefully there will be some.
To date after 3 months of ownership the unit has worked perfectly, and my wife loves getting her colour documents printed quickly.
I bought this to replace an HP Deskjet. The printer looks good, was easy to set up and the print quality looks to be very good. The HP Smart Apps are solid, it’s simple to print and scan from PC’s, Mac and iOS devices. The only two negatives so far; 1). It’s noisy. I don’t mean ‘oh that’s a noisy printer’ noisy, I mean ‘What the $%@% is that noise?’ noisy. I installed this in a small office and it lasted 4 hours – zoom calls were not possible while it fires up the flux capacitor and dilithium crystals. Yes it’s loud. and 2). A couple of times it fails to wake up when sleeping – it goes off-grid and refuses to play, it requires a reboot to kick back into action.
Would I recommend? Yes, but not if you have sensitive ears.
I bought this to replace a Samsung printer with similar functions. I am very impressed with this printer, as it is much quicker to print a document than my old printer. Two features that are very useful are 1) double sided printing without having to do anything. It just comes straight out already printed on both sides in the same print time, brilliant for saving paper. 2) there is a paper feed slot which I use for printing sheets of labels. No need to add the labels to the paper drawer, just feed it in the slot before you click print.
Software installation for windows 10 was easy, scanning works instantly and I have it setup as a network printer so it can scan straight into a folder.
I haven’t used it for photo printing, as inkjet printers are much more suited to this application, but for general colour printing in a flash, this printer is excellent.
Would recommend for home or small office use.
I don’t expect high-end quality prints like I’ve had from a 2000+ laser copier but I am very pleased with the output.
I found it easy to set up and sampled the pile of apps available to download but uninstalled some of them as unnecessary.
My printer is located upstairs in a spare room and when I send it a print job it has usually finished by the time I get too it, it’s quite fast and I don’t live in a mansion.
I haven’t used up the supplied cartridges yet as I’m not a massive user but It gave me the opportunity to give the printer a good work-out from a variety of formats and sources.
I would recommend it for home and small office use.
I use this from Linux, and it has a good level of driver support which was one of the things I was a little worried about. It’s easy to configure using the HP utility and you can provide the WiFi settings within that (via USB) to save you messing about with the panel.
Printer quality is ok, could be better on a few of my test prints but overall it’s more than good enough for day-to-day printing. Scanning/photocopying works as expected, would be nice to see double-sided copying using the document feed thing, but you can work around it by putting the documents back in the other way round after doing one side, putting the printouts back in the tray.
The only possible downside would be the toner price. It came with a set which is fine, but I looked at the cost of replacements and they are somewhat pricey. Third party cartridges need the chips from the original, the need to do that seems bonkers to me.
I purchased this as a complete novice who is a single mum who relied on her ex for all tech in the house. The COVID situation is not likely to go away any time soon and I needed to make sure that my kids (12 &8) had the ability to print as required. My daughter and I spent an hour or so working thing out but felt very proud of ourselves when we did. That has to be partly to do with the ease of set up process by HP.. So in a nutshell, even though I purchased a fairly complex machine, it was a relief that you didn’t need to be an IT expect to work it. Thanks HP! (All that’s left is figuring out how O
I can print photos…..
For a laser printer the scanning and printing are the best I have seen – even copied photo’s are brilliantly reproduced. I have other other reproduction equipment supplied by another company, the only difference being initial set-up. For the latter kit there was a cd supplied for each item and getting up and running was a very easy process. Unfortunately I have not observed this to be the case with the H.P. I found it somewhat complicated, the instructions didn’t seem to flow easily, for me anyway! For the time being I am using the H.P. manually and using it for dinners and weddings etc although it would be nice to be feeding it in via my keyboard.

I am just admiring that superb quality of an document sent to this printer from an HP Pavilion (another great machine).
Perhaps one thing you should be aware of is that when you start the printer up for the first time it is noisy. This settles and it generates less sound than my old inkjet and of course for a shorter period of time when in use. Oh yes, it looks beautiful too.
I’ve had a few niggles with printing through wi-fi but got it sorted. You can print directly from your phone, tablet, pc, laptop etc. It has a scanner and copier which is great to scan and email directly.
There are quite a few things to set up, which is quite simple really and the instructions a clear. I’m yet to work out how to do a top feed scan with more than one document that’s the only thing I’m struggling with at the moment.
Other than that, great printer. You will need to download the apps on your phone and computer, and you’ll be able to check when you need new ink etc. I haven’t used tech support yet so can’t rate it yet.
The main focus is scan function and less printing. I decided to pay more and got for a laser printer as I am not planning to print very much and regularly (inkjet dries up easily)
I am happy with the purchase. It does not have that much functions but the ones it has are working properly.
SCAN: The ADF works good and the documents are straight however no duplex in one pass (was aware of this). You can do duplex via software on the computer (if needed). The quality of the scan is good and there is no “paper pulling/dragging”. For example, the logo at the top of a document is distorted, when scanned in.
Printing works fine. I have been printing out a lot of nursery school work (black and white).
Installation was smooth without any issue. Everything was set up on the LCD. I connect it to my network via WiFi. There is no cable. Scanning and printing are done wirelessly. When connected, the other settings eg. Email setup were configured via the Web interface.
The HP smart app works fine. I wish it had the function to scan duplex (like on PC/Mac)
It’s a bit loud. Maybe that’s normal for a laser printer.
To put my review in perspective, I had purchased HP OfficeJet Pro 9020 from HP directly, which has many good features but fails to scan properly (core task) – crooked documents. I love the duplex scan in one pass and many nice features. I had to return it.
I couldn’t bother too much about the specifications and features as long as it had good wifi connectivity, could make the occasional copy and could print on both sides (the latter being a material upgrade in functionality compared to the old machine). Around the same time as the old one’s toners were faltering and while finding it increasingly hard to find replacement toners, I received an attractive double digit discount offer on this printer. Complaining wife and children about not being able to print made it an easy buy.
As I had hoped, the installation was easy. After I lifted the fairly heavy device into position, it required nothing more than switching it on, initializing, getting it on the wifi network to start to printing. It was a total breeze, though that’s how I expect all my new tech to operate. I had some trouble with the advanced installation app on my Mac, it somehow didn’t connect to the printer. But after trying twice and seeing that I could print from all devices I couldn’t be bothered to try any further.
The double-sided print feature is a paper saver. But the financial hangover will undoubtedly come when the toners require replacement. Hopefully by that time cheap refills cartridges are available – so far I couldn’t find them on auction sites. The only drawback I instantly noticed is the amount of noise the printer’s paper handling produces – perhaps double the level of the old printer; it fills the home office with a lot of noise when somebody sends a printing job, which is a bit distracting. Can’t comment on the wireless scanning features yet, I suppose it’s good – the printer does light up as a source in my scanning app . But I tend to prefer a small flatbed scanner net to my desk top when doing a sequence of scanning jobs.
Due to the noise only four stars.
But for the rest, this is a proper printer that I would recommend.
