By far the best laptop I have ever owned. I have had this a year now and it is just as responsive as the day I got it. It is good at handling most things that a thrown at it including video editing/graphics etc. If I was pushed for a complaint about this item it would also come with an upside and that is the camera positioning. The webcam is centered in the keyboard and accessed by pushing down to pop it up. This causes a weird viewing angle that is a little unnatural for a webcam but personally as someone who has watched one too many episodes of Black mirror I appreciated the built in privacy it’s placement gives.
Great specs for the price. Beautiful touchscreen and really responsive. The downside is definitely how much it tends to heat up when charging and can also get a little bit noisy.
Performance is outstanding. Video editing at 4k is butter smooth. Game development can sometimes be a bit choppy but, still doable.
This laptop is a brilliant piece of kit. Its super fast, quick to start up and the screen quality is brilliant.
I know its not cheap but its worth every penny.
Absolutely delighted with it.
I picked this laptop based upon other reviews and I have to say that I’m not disappointed. The performance is fantastic, the screen resolution and quality is superb and I’ve not found and major issues as of yet. The finish is great and it’s s really nice slim laptop that doesn’t feel at all “plasticity”.
My only minor niggle is the camera which pops up out of the function keys. Gives a very unflattering angle! That said, I usually have the laptop docked at home with an external camera attached so that’s not a deal breaker at all.
Great laptop. Super long battery life and easily lasts a working day for me 9-10 hours with Spotify running and 10+ pages open. Can game on it as well nothing extreme though but older games well and and some newer games (but only on low quality) definitely would recommend finally left apple and realise that you are just paying for a brand but with this you are getting a fairly big brand but with a good solid fast laptop included.
Very fast laptop best iv had
Very impressed with every bi
Superb laptop ! I’m really impressed by how crisp the display is. I like the front-facing camera hidden under the keyboard for privacy, giving a clean top bezel for the screen (though this is largely a matter of personal preference). Huawei Share is also a great software addition if you want to mirror your phone to your laptop screen and transfer content across your devices (rather than using clouds for storage). Personally: I mainly use my laptop to stream content and watch series and movies, I think this is currently the best machine in the market to do that.
Quick tip: The first thing you should do before anything else when first setting it up is to go into disk management and either completely delete the D-Drive to merge the free space with the C-Drive or at least give over some of the free space to the C-Drive as by default they only allocate 80GB to it which is far too small.
The i5-10210u version with 16GB of RAM and 512GB SSD is a great value but suffers some drawbacks that may limit its use. Due to its poor thermal management design the case can get very hot (particularly the keys) under heavy use such as gaming or 3D rendering and as a result the system throttles back power considerably, meaning you will never get the full performance out of what the processor and graphics card are capable of. Benchmarks sit up to 30% lower than other laptops with the same processor configuration. This doesn’t mean it isn’t still rather nippy and smooth running (fan noise is pretty low even at full tilt). Keyboard is great to type on, with good key travel and feel. The trackpad is good but does have a slight “clack” to it. The 512gb SSD is very fast and can be upgraded, although that does mean removing the base plate and the full heatsink assembly.
If you need a high-quality webcam, you will need to buy an external one. The webcam is useless on this laptop.
As well, this laptop gets quite hot and loud when charging or under stress
Other than the webcam and heat issues this is an amazing laptop in every category but it is not the best price to performance
I have had this for a few days and have been very pleased so far.
The packaging was very nice, very much like an Apple product would be supplied.
The quality appears to be good, spoilt by a little dirty glue residue on the bottom of the case, easy cleaned off though.
Mostly used on the lap but I am not sure just how well the 4 hard rubber feet with fair on a table top.
The screen is bright and 4K videos look fantastic on it.
For me the smaller screen will take some getting used to compared to my old Asus.
The keyboard is excellent with slight backlighting available when a key is pressed.
A couple of niggles.
It comes with a small hub that has HDMI, VGA, USB and USB C.
I would have liked a SD card slot as well.
The cable that is part of the hub is simply way too short at about 4 inches long.
I only found one installed program that I wanted removed, other than that there is absolutely no dodgy software pre installed.
First switch on went well with various updates performed.
The biggest issue has been transferring everything over on a removable hard drive from the old laptop.
Just some more programs to install now and the old asus can be retired.
I have also just discovered the Microsoft Your Phone app and that has made things very much better.
Phot transfer etc.
The Huawei seems fast with no glitches to report so far.
UPDATED AFTER USING FOR 1 WEEK
SSD PARTITION
Why on earth have Huawei made the C drive an 80GB partition and added a D drive called DATA with a 857GB free. This is easy to fix with Windows Disk Manager, literally 2 minutes, but very annoying, and how many users have the confidence to do this? Why not just add a 1TB C drive?
CAMERA
The camera is good quality but the viewing angle is very unflattering, but as I have a separate webcam it’s not an issue for me. Also my laptop is on a stand over my separate keyboard so in this configuration the camera is fine. If you are using the laptop keyboard the camera can see your fingers typing which is not great.
KEYBOARD
The keyboard is a highlight, just superb with full size keys, really impressed. I was a little worried as online this is something you can test before buying, but 100% happy. Touchpad is large and recognised gestures with lovely feeling click action, so all good there too.
SCREEN
I love the 3:2 screen ratio, if it’s a work machine it’s perfect, not so good for films but I use an iPad for media consumption. I am running it at 125% as native is a little small. No issues with that at all. Touch screen works faultlessly.
PORTS
1 x USB 3 and 2 x USB C (1 for charging but a passthrough hub comes with the laptop providing 1 x USB 3, 1 x HDMI and 1 x 15 pin D). I use an SD card in my camera so I have had to invest in the USB 3 SD card reader, 9 so no big hardship but an SD card slot would have been nice.
SECURITY
The fingerprint reader on the power button works well. No Windows Hello option as the camera is hidden, (and very cool) but face recognition has never been ideal as you have to be directly in front of the device. It’s quite annoying on my iPhone and PS4.
PERFORMANCE
It’s VERY fast. 32GB RAM would have been nice but to date I have never got to 100% usage. Windows Pro would also be nice but not a big issue. If I do install Windows Pro Huawei say the warranty may be invalid.
NOISE
The fan does kickin occasionally but only when I am driving it hard. Even when it does it’s pretty quiet and has 2 levels, and I am very noise sensitive. I guess the greater processor power requires more cooling than my old machine which rarely fired up the fan so was completely silent.
GOOGLE
I called the Huawei help desk to ask about the Google issue and on PCs there is no issue, just phones. I have an iPhone so no value to me anyway.
GENERAL
This is as beautiful as a Macbook Air but with Windows, more power and some lovely little touches like the included USB C hub, a lip to open the lid with, a very small power supply, USB C charging so one charger for multiple devices while away. Well done Huawei. Oh, and the space grey looks great, I was tempted by the green but I aired on the conservative.
I researched the market thoroughly before buying this PC and I am delighted with it. Highly recommended.
Ive always jumped between high-end ultra portables and Macbook’s because no windows laptop ever came close to the feel of a Macbook and also because running Linux on a Macbook is always painful. Before I bought this device over the likes of the new Macbook or Dell XPS, I watched a lot of reviews and read a lot of research on this and the previous iterations. When Huawei themselves ran a pre-order promotion where you got a free slip case, backpack and Watch GT 2e, I decided it was time.
Upon handling and seeing the laptop for the first time, it’s very obvious where Huawei found their inspiration. But here’s the thing, I believe they have actually crafted something that is better than a Macbook or any windows premium laptop available. The 3:2 screen for a start is just perfect, particularly for photographers. Running RawTherapee on this screen makes your photo library look anew. Colour’s and contrast both pop whilst staying true to life and maximum brightness is more than adequate. The speakers are quite loud and don’t sound as weak as other laptops although, the Apple devices win out here as they produce a more bassy sound.
Running Linux is a joy and with the Nvidia card disabled, the laptop runs cool and silent for over 12 hours of web browsing which is as amazing as the quick charging time.
The keyboard has a sharp and precise key travel with an adjustable backlight that switches itself off after a short period of non-use – perfect. The large glass track pad is pleasure to use with tap to click enabled and is only missing the haptic feedback that Apple apply.
All in all, this is as good as it gets: A windows laptop, that runs Linux that looks and feels as good as a Macbook does. I have everything I need.
