imoo Watch Phone Z1 Kids Smart Watch, Kids Smartwatch Phone with Long-lasting Video & Phone Call, Kids GPS Watch with Real-time Locating & IPX8 Water-Resistance (Green)
Tried a few other ones but this is definitely the best for the money. Call quality is good, accuracy of location is excellent, battery lasts at least a couple of days and the app works well.
Very pleased , watch is just as described and shown in the picture , came in a lovely box , was very easy to set it up , sim card if new needs to be inserted In a phone first to receive the welcome message that activates it( I’m using Vodafone Ireland . App easy to download and pair with the watch. Battery lasts about 3-4days . Video is very good ,and tracking is spot on . By far the best watch on the market .
I’m a huge tech fan and spent a long time researching watches for my daughter age 7. This has been a great purchase. Getting set up is straight forward once you have the app and understand the often poor English translations. Adding family members is very easy and the app itself it’s feature rich. Adding contacts with profile pics etc makes it very easy for my daughter and voice messages are great and clear. Calling is simple and only takes a couple of swipes. There are no games which my daughter was disappointed with but the other features easily outweigh this. Tracking is good. A charge lasts about 3 days. More child friendly wallpapers would have been good as the few on the watch are a bit boring and adult like.
From a parents perspective though this is a great purchase and Lebara Sim card for 5 a month makes it great value too.
Buttery is good, if calling a lot, needs to be charged every day or every 2 days, otherwise 3-4 days for us. easy to call, my daughter loves the snaps and location works ok, sometimes does not update if connection is poor in the building, she has it for more than a month, and loves it. The only thing, you have to download the app then be able to call, also cannot transfer pics to mobile or view them somehow
I spent a good 25-30 hours researching phone watches. Eventually went through Amazon, YouTube, and independent gadget reviews for 23 devices. So I can tell you that I did my checking. I don’t normally review stuff – but – as there was a serious lack of decent reviews on phone watches on Amazon, I thought it may be useful.
Eventually went for this one for a 10 year old, even though it was more expensive than some others out there.
Key things wanted INITIALLY – Entertainment (games etc), GPS tracking, phone capability (standalone – not needing to be linked to a mobile), Calendar, Alarm, Stopwatch.
Now – let’s make this clear – NO phone watch had all of these. If you wanted GPS – it would probably not have games. If you wanted a habit tracker calendar – it would probably not have calls. Something would always be absent.
So I reduced my key “want list” to – Calls and Entertainment. Calls being the dealbreaker.
After a lot of thought, I realised that it wasn’t worth sacrificing GPS tracking, or going for a more plasticy “toy” watch, for a couple of really bad computer games (maybe good for a 5-8 year old – but not for my 10 year old – she can source games elsewhere).
So we’re down to calls and GPS as they’re key requirements.
I cannot fault this watch so far.
– Packaging – pretty classy. Doesn’t look like a kids watch. The only things it has on the box are the brand “imoo” and “Z1”.
– Instructions – clear and easy to understand. But it’s not hard to guess your way around this if you’ve ever had a smartphone of any type.
– Build quality – solid. It doesn’t feel cheap at all. The strap is a fake leather/silicon hybrid.
– Touchscreen – very responsive – it’s not in any way worse than my own mobile phone.
– Screen definition – very clear. Everything looks and feels good quality
– Camera – for a 2mpx camera it takes surprisingly good pics.
– Battery – so far so good. About 2 day’s charge in there if you have medium usage
– Social Media – NONE. <3
- Calls - very clear. Some people say it's tinny - but I would say that's using a very strong word for how it sounds. It's just lacking in some bass - but that's to be expected on a speaker this small. What's important is that the clarity is excellent. You can hear everything being spoken with no interference. The watch doesn't need to be raised to the mouth unless you really want to.
- SIM - Utterly easy to install. Pop out the "lid" on the back using the plastic tool in the box. Put the Nano SIM into the lid. Clip it back in. When you turn on the watch, it recognises it straight away. I am using a GiffGaff SIM.
- Texts - You can send texts to the watch, but the watch can't send texts. Not a problem, as sending a voice message is a piece of cake. If you do this from the app to the watch and vice versa, it's immediate delivery, and you can send emojis through there too (limited choice). App to watch contact is not linked to your provider so it's free. But phone to app needs WiFi or data.
- "Binding" - you can "bind" numbers to the watch from the app. If they are bound they can join family chats (group chats) with the watch, call directly, download the app and make FREE facetimes and calls to the watch. Watch to app needs WiFi or data.
- Blocked calls - the watch won't accept ANY calls from numbers that aren't preinstalled on the watch. All numbers added have to be from the app. You can't do it from the watch which is great.
- Emergency SOS - You can set this up so if they draw a "C" on the screen it auto dials the admin of the app. Pretty useful and nice to have this emergency feature. You can't do this if the watch is turned off.
- On/off button - It's on the back of the phone. And doesn't stick out. So it's not something they can accidentally turn off (or say they did!). If you're finding it hard to turn it off, press the button using the SIM card tool that comes with the watch. The button isn't easy to press on purpose so there is no chance of accidental turn off.
- GPS - SO FAR - pretty decent. The app didn't recognise the watch at first, but if you click refresh on the app, it located the watch to 1-8 metres in 3 seconds. When tracking the watch whist moving, it struggled while it was in a car (you need to refresh the app screen and it located to about 20 metres), but was much better at walking speed. Either way, it's more than fine to get an idea as to where you kid is.
- Games - "one" pseudo game. It's hardly a game. You shake the watch and it it logs that you did it. Very odd. You can shake 6 times a day - as you do this daily you unlock little prize chests and achievements. I can't tell you what they all are as we haven't had this long enough to know - I will update when I know more. God knows what this is about - but hey - this wasn't a priority. Don't get this watch if you want games!
- App - very user friendly. Over a million downloads on the Google store. Easy to navigate and lots of useful options. Easy to figure things and try things out.
- Step Counter - pretty accurate. Maybe a little off, but close enough to give the user an idea of how much activity is being done.
- Security guard. You can set an area based on WiFi for when the watch (and therefore the user) is safe. When they enter that WiFi area you get a message on the app that they're in the secure zone. So for example you could set one up at home, and another at the youth club that they're walking to. When they arrive they don't need to do anything, and you get a notification.
- Dialling out - You can choose to disable the dial pad if you want from the app. Stops the kid making calls to anyone who isn't bound. If you don't disable this, they can call anyone, and this will be charged to your provider.
- Disabling - In addition to the dialpad, you can also disable the odd shake game, the step counter and friend video.
You can also disable all incoming and outgoing usage for any sets of dates and times so you can make sure the user isn't using the contacts part of the watch during school or tuition etc. It has a backdoor you can toggle so that calls to parents can still be made during this time period if you want.
Hope this helps! Enjoy!
Purchased for my 9 year old daughter and I must say it’s a best buy in a long time! Does exactly what it says on the tin!
She’s not allowed it at school in her current year, however, it’s perfect if she goes to stay at a friends house not just to call and check in but to be able to see where she is using the GPS.
The GPS is super accurate and camera isn’t at all bad for a video call. I caught Covid once and I literally couldn’t take her to school so I put her in a taxi with the watch and video called the whole way as I was so worried about her being inside there on her own. She then gave the watch to her teacher and we did the same on her return.
Not had a single problem with it and we’ve had it I think since Christmas 2022.
Very Happy customer and good value for money.
Took us a while to “bind” a mobile to the watch. Eventually got there using vodaphone sim.
Son can’t text me from watch can only call. Can send a voice message if person has bound to watch but not everyone will be.
Also, GPS doesn’t seem to be working. Otherwise OK.
Great watch for kids. Order your Sim separately. We are however experiencing issues with the time, it keeps jumping back an hour and cause some arguments…..
Don’t let them put their friends on it either. Stick with the parental / family contacts only.
First day testing, so not sure about this product. Setup was easy and calls work. The only issue possibly is with locating your kid. I thought this is GPS location but it seems is mobile network only? Will keep testing as priority is be able to truck ur kid regardless of a mobile network.
My daughter loves it. It is a bit heavy but not too much -every time we are at home she removes it. But location, camera, and everything else is working perfectly. She even tested it under water while swimming and it works after that. Some coments say that the battery dies easy , but it lasts one day -if you don’t do videocalls may be even more than one day. Really happy woth my purchase.
Location-the “safe zone” tab is one thing , but the tab “location” works very well
Not many games and that is the downfall for a kid but on the other hand the camera is really good and takes amazing pictures. Very interesting for kids os the flip option which you should be very carefull though due to kids play and they have to close the flip before running , jumping and do other activities. Also you could synchronise pictures from your phone and use them as wallpapers which is really nice option.
Good product..works perfectly but you have to be careful at the sim s network as not all of them work . Check the guide online for mobile networks that work.
We have had a similar watch, from different brand and it is nearly twice the price for its video call version, this watch beats it in all categories
Battery lasts 3 full days and lasts as long as my samsung watch, with auto off and on feature it last 5 days , it has video calling which works really good, my biggest surprise with her last watch we struggled to get network if she was in doors, this watch z1 will get signal as good as my own phone, app is really good and the locate is spot on, the maps are google generated so can use maps to direct you to watch location, just keep in mind you need 4g sim and data and calls for this to operate as it uses data network and GPS for locating
Only 1 thing we found fault with it is the strap, can’t buy a Velcro strap for it to make it easier for my 8 year old son to put on & off, he does manage but a bit fiddly
Absolutely brilliant invention, I can monitor my daughter & see where she is. I can call her in from playing and video call to make sure she is where she is meant to be.. her and her friends that have the same watch can call each other to see are they going out to play.
Setting it up was fine, while calling requires app on the mobile phone, it is easy to install and use. Simple functions, clear sound and video quality ok. No sensible games at all, but it wasn’t the key reason for us to purchase it. Battery holds a day or two, depending how many calls made during the day.
My kids will be transitioning to secondary school soon. While we wanted them to be able to call us we didn’t want to get them a mobile so soon. The imoo watch has been perfect. They can call my immediate family anytime. It has great safety features as no incoming or outgoing will work from a number that I have not approved. Also kids cannot browse the net or install apps. They can call us though on video and they love it. They found the UI also to be very easy. Overall it has been great.
We bought out daughter this watch as a Christmas present. It was really easy to set up and very practical to use. We did have a slight issue with the Microphone not working, so we contacted the IMOO customer care team who were very pleasant to deal with. They gave us tips on how to overcome the mic issue, however these did not work. So IMOO very kindly sent out a replacement watch.
HAPPY CUSTOMER HERE.
This is a great watch,my 8 Yr old son loves it and as parents it’s great to be able to speak with him when he is exploring. Battery life is excellent and it’s easy to use. Definitely recommend.
Great little watch, does exactly what I need it for. GPS works 80% of time. Nice parental controls. Son loves i
I was looking for a pre-smart phone alternative for a pre-teen. I checked all the available options that were a lot cheaper but the reviews were not great. The imoo watch was more expensive but has delivered on every point. The people who bought when it first came out had quite critical reviews but they have stepped up their game in the last couple of years and the recent reviews were really good so I took the plunge and have not regretted it. It’s a good alternative if you are not ready to expose your preteen to smart phone and social media. There are 10 people you can add to their safe list who can call them but they can make outgoing calls to any number which gives them control. The tracker function works okay but may be a few meters off sometimes: voice and video calls are great – extremely clear. The giff gaff sim has worked for us. Battery life is about 3 days. It’s been a win win. The app is easy to download and use. The class mode function is great as phones are not allowed in class.
Preteen would love a few more emojis and maybe more games but all in all, a great buy
I bought this watch after trying a cheaper one that honestly was very nice, with a lot of functions, but had a battery that didn’t last even 3 hours, so completely useless.
The imoo one has a long lasting battery instead, so I feel confident to leave my son to have short trips alone. The GPS is accurate, the video call is quality. Very satisfied.
Cannot fault this watch. It allows my 9 year old son to have independence when walking home from school/clubs without me having to worry. He can keep in touch with his grandparents etc by calling them. I personally wouldn’t be happy giving him a phone so this is just perfect.
After a lot of searching for a GPS watch, this seemed perfect.
My 9yr old loves it. He can talk to his friends and send voice messages. He can receive texts but cant send text messages, that’s ok!
I have full control over his contacts and the class mode is great for school.
It counts his steps to.
The charging is quick. Set up was quick and easy to.
5per month for calls texts and 4GB data on O2
The watch is very easy to operate and gives accurate location. I found it really useful when I have to speak to my kid or drop him a message. You can also track the kids movement while they are walking. Video call makes it more perfect when you need to see them. It also encourages kids to achieve the no. Of steps they took for whole day and give them rewards. Kids really like those extras. Excellent battery and last for 2-3days easily.
A perfect smart watch for kid’s first mobile phone (watch) . I was very impressed when I received the watch, the packaging and the watch is of a sturdy and well put together. ( well protected). I bought an imoo watch Z1 which aimed at children and offers a SIM Slot for fully independent calls from the watch itself. The camera is decent and great quality. This watch help with kids safety and secrets with effortless communication to their parents phone. There’s an onboard GPS module that allow us to locate our kid in real time.
This is a excellent device which is ideal when your child is starting to transition to secondary school and needs to start having that independence, but your not willing to get the smart phone yet.
The locate function is pretty accurate and gives that piece of mind when making sure your child is returning home safely. Also nice function to only lock accees to those contacts added within the app only.
Absolutely love this watch, we use this for our child to walk to and from school. The app is brilliant you can call, text, FaceTime and locate your child when ever you need. It also have parental settings so only approved contacts can get through to your child, and a school mode so it doesn’t disturb your child through set times of the day. It does require its own sim with internet and can be linked to Wi-Fi. We find the battle lasts a good few days from a full charge. Very happy.
Reliable watch for my 10-11 years old son. Pre-step before giving him a phone. It is working well and it is doing what it is supposed to do.
I thought it worked with an pay as you go SIM card but it doesn’t. You need to have a contract.
Once we overcame that obstacle, the watch has worked really well and we are all very pleased.
The tracking is a bonus.
My son is very happy with it so we are too.
Battery lasts about 2-3 days under normal usage.
Touch screen is not very sensitive, but still OK.
Signal is a bit flaky indoor, but works great outside (Vodafone network).
Chat and video calls are working fine.
Tracking function is working OK. Accuracy wise, probably 10-20M, not too bad.
Generally it works as expected and kids love it.
Can’t compare to mobile phone experience though.
The colour is really suitable for the child’s age as well as the size of it.
My son had it for Xmas, not been used a lot yet, however, he really enjoys the function of video calling, location services, messaging and step count. A bit disappointing that you can’t change the ringtone for calls, only messages.
Perfect for kids, you are in charge as parent. You determine what they do and who they call. Location pinpoint is accurate. My son is not quite old enough for a phone, this is just perfect. He can call me, I can call him on video or voice. I know his location. It provides peace of mind. It has a class mode which prevents any distraction in class and unlike other kids that need to submit their phones to the teacher in the morning, he keeps his watch. Even useful at home, when I am upstairs, I can easily summon him as opposed to shouting his name . Highly recommended.
It is much better one compared to what I bought in the past. It is built in a good quality with a good charging wire. This is my third time bought as gifts for others, the first one was bought from last christams for my son and he absolutely love it. I do have one recommandation to Z1 as ringtone is not quite loud enough in a noisy play area like the big softplay. However, I would highly recommanded it in general.
It has better built quality than others the battery life should have been better.the software is easy and smooth to use. Imoo is English version of a popular brands so it should be ok in quality. Just it has less choice of product than the full range.
Using a PAYG sim card and it seems to work well with the apps for tracking when there is gps signals. Battery life is around 2 to 3 days, but I have set it to turn off in the evening.
The class room feature is super as it makes the watch pretty much a watch without all the other apps in it working apart from the telephone.
Build quality, packaging, features are all great. I would recommend it but there is a frustration with its MAIN feature. The video call function does seem to be hit and miss. Sometimes times the call will be successful and sometimes it just does not happen. Perhaps I will try a different network and see if it is better… Or perhaps the app needs a fix?
Need to be honest…. The video call function is average at best. Sometimes just does not work.
Battery life is good – lasts more than a day when using class mode, maybe 2-3 and usually a full day when utilising all the functions off class mode .
So I noticed another phone had been released from one of the big phone providers on the uk but subscription was required , which put me off .
I put a GG sim in this one and the pay as you go bundles are really reasonable with no contract . Works well and no issues making or receiving calls .Free app is good given parents all the ability to implement parental controls remotely and receive alerts from the watch remotely too . GPS is fairly accurate – days my sim is next door when we are at home but we live in a semi and it’s accuracy is within so many metres so that’s fine and still fairly accurate. I put it in class mode and set that setting to allow calls to and from parents so he can call me in an emergency and I can call him when he is at after school club to check he is ok .
Suggested improvements : I would suggest built in games and screen protectors to be included . My son has scuffed his screen a little around the edges , I ordered screen protectors but they were only available from abroad so they came a few weeks after the watch but they’ll prevent any further damage …. he’s extremely active so the fact the screen hasn’t broken after almost a month of everyday use is probably testament that the watch is robust .
Lots of parents have been asking me about the phone now and for the link , all his friends want one and his chuffed he got it first 🙂 . I don’t think he’ll ever forget this Christmas present . I would definitely recommend .
Lovely simple watch phone for children, a great first device for communication, but more more importantly it’s been well thought through for safeguarding against unsolicited contact and NO internet access, the device can also be managed from the Imoo app. The only negative thing I have to say is about the power on/off button, as a grown adult it’s extremely tough to switch on/off, I’m not sure if it’s designed that way for a reason, but my 8 year old son is going to struggle switching it of/on, hopefully he doesn’t have to as the device as on/off cycle also managed my the app, it also has class mode which I quite like.
My nephew has reached the age where he now feels old enough to go to the shops or park with his friends or alone. A worrying time and feeling for parents. We decided to get him this watch for his birthday. I have had cheaper “smart” watches for kids. Bought two in fact and they fundamentally failed at what a parents need from these type of watches. I will give my reasons as to why this, while being very expensive kids watch, is worth it and exactly what parents need and I’ll give a small comparison with cheaper watches.
The first thing I will point out is the build quality. The build quality is exceptional. The body feel solid and robust. The mechanism to tilt the screen feel smooth and strong. Clips in and out very easy and nicely. I was concerned the mechanism will be weak point and break easily, but It is not the case at all. It makes a very cool sound effect when opening and closing it. The screen is very clear, bright and sharp. While direct sunlight will decrease the visibility, still visible enough to see what’s on the screen. The video quality it fantastic, but naturally, this depends on the signal strength. Both front facing camera and rear camera do a great job for a watch camera. The best I’ve seen on a watch. Obviously, it doesn’t have imagine stabilisation or flash, so to get the best picture, you will need good light and steady hands. It does have image focus. With those condition, you can get decent photos. For kids, they will love it. Use it to pretend to be special agents or futuristic hero.
The voice and video call feature are a hit and miss. In a very good area with strong signal. Both the voice and video calls worked very well. Voice call was perfect, clear audio from both ends, no delays. With the video call, video quality both ways was great. Very very clear on both cameras. You get the odd buffer, but it is expected. In areas where the signal is weak, the audio calls hardly suffered. Still clear on both ends and very little to no delays. The video calls did suffer. While the image was clear both ways, we noticed long delays in audio. The video buffers more often. When this was the case, we would revert back to audio call. Sending messages and making calls is done via the watch app. Sending text and voices messages works exactly how WhatsApp works. The audio again is perfect. In comparison to the other sub 50 watches I owned, calls failed more often than not. Struggled to send and receive messages. This is mainly to do with the fact that the cheaper watches uses 2G. This watch uses 4G which is better in many ways. Speed mainly and also allows you to use GPS. The GPS tracking works great. Not perfect. It struggles a little when on the move. We tracked my nephew as he was going to the park. It will tell us exactly where he is, outside which house and pinpoints to the exact location on the map. Now, it did fail to track him a few time while he was walking. Tried a few time and updated his current location.
The software is great. It is designed and built for this watch. Other kids smart watches uses third party generic software. The software give parents control of the device to protect your child and to control what he can and can’t do with his watch. You can disable all the features except telling the time while he is in class for example. Schedule and plan his day. There’s a few activities and features to get kids engaged and active. Shaking the watch and getting the step counter up gains points which can be used to purchase themes and face watches. Brilliant way to get them active and add some fun to the watch.
Honestly, this is one of the best things for child’s safety and for parents who worry about their child. The watch has all the features needed, it isn’t perfect. But it does so much to help the child and parents. The issues it has, is also a problem with expensive smart phones, connection problem in certain areas. It is expensive, but I’m a believer of paying more to protect any child.
