Really easy to use, fab quality and fun to use. Takes me back to when I was younger with a polaroid. The size of the camera is large, not for pockets! However, big prints, with lovely tactile button and the brilliant noise of the picture being produced. Good fun to experiment with, and monochrome film available. This really is a lot of fu
It’s super easy to use. The instructions are very clear and the camera is massive! It’s worth the money and I would pay it again. So happy with this product and if you’re wanting something to capture memories in a classic way this is the one.
Great camera for instant fun on all occasions with a hint of vintage film on the prints. And it looks classy:)
Camera is solid and quite large (a positive in my opinion since it has a quality feel). Picture quality is exactly what you’d expect/want, can’t compete with a phones camera but that’s not why you would buy this kind of camera. Already made some great memories with it and the person who I gifted it to absolutely loves it.
you really don’t realise how big it is until it comes, very bulky, but i still love it and my pictures are grea
It gave us great pictures and allowed us to use the photos instead of looking on the screen without need of a printer. Comes with a “selfie” mirror to make sure you can see yourselfs before the photo is take
Such a great camera. Big but then its an instant and if you want decent sized pictures this cameras fine with good picture quality. Brought for my daughter for Christmas she loves it.
Its a plasticky and ungainly beast, the size being dictated of course by the larger format film it has to hold and the AA batteries it uses. It’s comfortable to hold and use but that size does mean you tend not to take it out casually, whereas size and portability is a big strength of the mini instax cameras.
One does wonder whether it could have been made a bit more appealing to look at in line with the smaller models, but it’s pure utility!
The odd little viewfinder is stuck out on one side but actually works ok. As usual with instax cameras, one has to be careful to align the eye exactly to see through.
Actual performance is similar to instax mini, with exposures that can tend to come out a bit washed out by default, but this is usually cured by selecting the “D” for darker exposure compensation adjustment. The flash works well giving accurate and sensible fill and the film’s 800 ISO rating gives decent exposure latitude in dimmer conditions.
Image quality is the same as the instax mini but on a larger scale (at least double the size) and therefore with more actual detail for viewing and scanning. The colours and tones have a slightly vintage look and are attractive, which is part of the appeal (if they looked like digital images what would be the point?!) and there is a degree of unpredictability that can be frustrating or appealing. You could use this format for landscape or more serious images of people and make gains in detail for sure.
One point to really watch with this camera is the shooting distance to the subject. Fuji made an odd control choice here as you have to choose from 2 main focus settings…either up to 3 metres or 3 metres to infinity. While having 2 ranges to choose from is not a big deal, the 3 metre distance is awkward in practice because it is a really common distance when shooting people, so do you choose the near or far setting for a subject at 3m!? When switched on, the camera defaults to the shorter range, 0.3-3m, so if you just shoot without adjusting the focus setting, everything further away than 3 metres (such as a landscape) will be out of focus. Therefore, to avoid wasting shots, decide where your subject is and always check the focus setting before shooting!
The whole point of these cameras is the fun factor of an analogue product that takes us back to a different age of photography, when sharing with others had nothing to do with that “F” word but meant handing someone an instant print. There is still real magic in that and my little boy finds it far more appealing that anything I shoot on digital.
Interestingly, this larger camera and the film it uses is no more expensive than shooting instax mini, so that is not a consideration in purchase decisions.
If you want portability and are happy with credit card sized prints then instax mini is the way to go.
If you want the best possible current instax print size/quality and are ok with the size and a few ergonomic foibles, then instax wide and the 300 is the way to go.
Ideally get both as they serve different purposes and are addictive!
This was my first instant camera, I was very pleased. Its a little big but you get used to it. Very simple to use and great. Its a great present!
Really easy to use and takes good pictures. Also looks really cool. We used it so that people could take pictures of themselves for a guest book, which went down really well.
