Ready for heat wave coming soon, I hope sleep well between this period. Noise level are still high when the high speed mode are running.

A little noisey sometimes and we’ve only been using ours for a month, not every day either. The dehumidifying function really works which is why I’m giving 4 stars instead of 3.

We get up off our desks and manually turn them on/off because the remotes don’t really work that well with ours.
Still going though so not too bad.

Great product but I bought at a reasonable cost before the 2nd heatwave of 2022 but when I went bzck to buy another before the 3rd heatwave they imposec a MASSIVE price hike!

Quieter than predecessor, better remote than predecessor but not as cold as predecessor (17 not 16) and takes longer to get temp down, however I would still recommend

Golden Review Award: 25 From Our UsersThis AC unit has been a life saver.

We bought a very good air cooler last year but it was really was just a glorified fan. Unless using both ice packs in water that’s been chilled in the fridge, plus a bunch of ice cubes, it wan’t particularly effective after the first half an hour. This coupled with the fact that we’ve got a fairly small home office which runs a minimum of 2 PCs and 4 monitors each day and is in full sun for the majority of the day, meant it just wasn’t working for us.

I was put off by the price of an AC unit but finally relented and I just wish I’d given in sooner. It’s an absolute game changer. It allowed us to not only make our little office bearable in the heat wave of 2022 but actually super pleasant. We were able to continue working when other remote working colleagues had to stop and be “sent home for the day” as it were.

As for negatives, it IS fairly loud, but it’s not really that much louder than the air cooler we had or regular fans. It is quite big. I think this was among the smallest we looked at though. You get used to it eventually but it does take up a bit of space – more so given you have to pull it out from the wall to attach the pipe. The pipe really is not very long, 1.5m I think, so you do have to have the unit quite close to a window. As far as I can see there’s no way to order a longer version, an extension, or even a replacement if the supplied one is damaged. This really is the biggest negative for me. And of course it doesn’t come with a universal window adapter, those need to be ordered separately.

Despite those negatives, they really are outweighed by how good this thing is and what a difference it’s made to our comfort and ability to work in our little office during the summer. It also works as a regular fan and a dehumidifier to boot.

I’m glad it has a fairly high efficiency rating as I’m sure it costs a fair bit to run, especially with the cost of living and energy crisis kicking off, but we only run it when the temperature is getting a bit too much during the summer so it’s a cost I’m happy to bear. Can’t put a price on personal comfort when working.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersThis is a very good portable A/C for the money, its been a godsend in this heat, makes the room nice and cool. I live in a 1st floor flat above a restaurant so it can get hot. This makes it possible to get a good night’s sleep, I sleep with earplugs in regardless as im a light sleeper, so the noise does not bother me, watching TV the noise can get a bit intrusive but none of these portables at this price point are exactly quiet. The remote is great, very easy to use, window kit takes a bit of fettling but fits sash windows perfectly.
Can’t give it 5 stars due to the noise but I’d rather be cool and comfy.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersI don’t know why all the negative reviews – this has performed faultlessly and faithfully for three years now. It is not very powerful – it manages to condition, just my small bedroom with a slanting roof – but then it doesn’t need to be, in London, where it needs to run for six weeks tops. makes sleeping possible, the noise is tolerable, it works even if I have to use clumsy and imperfect seals for the window, as none of the windows in my house are sliding windows. Ten years ago I would have scoffed at the need for an AC unit in London, but I am not scoffing now, especially with a room under the eaves in full sun exposure.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersExcellent customer service from the company (Inventor) that make this unit. Very fast responses to direct communication from their Customer Service team. Really great unit, have tried a few units and they have been unreliable, expensive to run and very noisy when in cooling mode. These machines cool very quickly and therefore you don’t need them on all of the time. When in automatic mode, they use even less energy as they only cool to maintain the set temperature and the sleep mode is also great with helping to reduce energy consumption. Would buy again, especially as these units come with a 2 year warranty that the manufacturer actually stand by. Have 2 of these units, had an issue with one of them when almost out of warranty, but the Customer services was great and the machine was replaced without any challenges. So you can buy with confidence of getting a great unit with great support.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersI had been nagging my OH to get an air-con unit since the heatwave of 2020; I swore I was never going to suffer between night shifts in the heat again. She finally gave in and we purchased this bad boy.

The relief it gives on hot days is outstanding, we have a medium sized bedroom and it keeps it beautifully cold even in 30+ degree weather. I left the bedroom door wide open with it on one night and the room was still cool and it offered some cool air to the upstairs of my house too. Granted, it’s a compact unit and only really designed to cool one room but it did a cracking job of lowering the general upstairs temperature.

There is a noise and it’s undeniable, it might bother you if you’re a light sleeper. Genuinely though, it’s an ambient noise and no louder than a room fan. If you’re in the fence I would honestly encourage you to buy it.

I have had two friends experience the air-con and each of them has gone on to buy a unit. I would recommend buying it out of season as the price on here does seem to fluctuate and be more expensive in the summer months but I think that’s just Amazon in general.

Buy it now – thank me in the next heat wave!

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI have always wanted to buy a portable air conditioner and 2021 I did just that! Overall it made my life very comfortable at bedtime without relying on a traditional fan or praying to the wind gods.

For the record one of us is a light sleeper and the other is a heavy sleeper and we both benefited from this and felt the noise although loud was a drone so you can actually sleep through it despite what other reviews do say.

      Pro’s
      1. Portable
      2. Cools a 3.5×3.5m room nicely in 20 mins
      3. Stays cool all night
      4. Quiet enough to sleep (You get used to the drone)
      5. Has a remote control so you dont have to move
      6. It has wheels so you can roll it around, I imagine it would be easy on non carpeted floors.
      7. No need to empty and water trays (at least for air con mode)

      Con’s
      1. You have to buy a Window kit to secure so extra money.
      2. It is VERY Heavy so not easy to move between floors.
      3. Think about storage as the unit is quite large
      4. It is not the quietest machine.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI had to return my unit because it was damaged, however I would say if you buy one make sure you inspect it for damage as I could have easily missed it. I removed the filter to see the cooling fins and it looked like a bag of spaghetti as they was all bent and mangled like crazy. I’d assume its because these portable ACs are actually really heavy (at least compared to what I expected) and probably take a beating if not secured properly in transit. But do be warned any damage is a fire risk as per the manual so any hidden damage is rather concerning!

Something specific to this unit would be that I don’t think the “eco” coolant is all its cracked up to be. It is still damaging to the environment and is apparently odourless. I don’t know if the non eco coolant is odourless or not but I guess if this one leaks you are screwed since you won’t know its leaking till your health takes a beating or something goes on fire.

The manual explicitly calls out not using extension coords, I assume because drawing over 1000w over a thin extension cable is another fire risk. This is extremely annoying if the out of the box coord isn’t long enough for where you want to place it.

Also if you are expecting these to be as good as an integrated office AC you are out of luck. This cooled the room from 35C to 28C but couldn’t get it any lower. 28C was still too high for me but obviously a lot better than 35C. Unless you are directly in the path of the cool air output its not a massive help so you’ll need to make sure you can position it to blow the air onto your bed/desk/wherever you are. Also perhaps it might have performed a bit better if it hadn’t been damaged, check other reviews I guess.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersUsed this portable air conditioner a couple of times so far and it cools the room well. It is noisy, but not overly so. I’m using in my home office, so I’d have to switch off if I was on the phone. A couple of things to note…there is no water tank that you pull out to empty like on other devices. With this one there is a plug that you remove to drain, so you’ll need a small container or the correct sized hose to do this. Secondly the end of the hose that goes outside is round and doesn’t narrow at the end, so if venting through a window it needs to be open quite wide…I believe you can buy a kit to help with this, but I found it’s still able to call the room sufficiently.

One final thing to mention that’s not product specific…I ordered this originally in March and experienced months of delays from Amazon. They said it had shipped when it hadn’t and despite contacting support on multiple occasions, it took over 2 months to resolve…finally I had to cancel my original order then re-order once it was back in stock. The price had gone up but the supplier kindly agreed to refund the difference. Amazons customer service was very poor…they assured me they would investigate and update me every time I got in touch but they didn’t ever come back to me and I always had to chase…not what you’d expect from Amazon!

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersFirst air conditioner I’ve ever bought and for the price and size of the unit I’m overall very impressed with the cooling capacity and noise levels. I think the people who have written negative reviews of the product don’t really understand how air conditioning works—the quiet units you find in hotels etc. have very large, noisy compressors outside the building. I have thought about buying an air conditioner for years as London has got consistently hotter and have no regrets about buying the Inventor Chilly. 250 + 40 window kit with no installation costs is a good investment in lieu of installing a split unit which was not possible for me as I live in rented accommodation.

With the cooling on full, I can just about sleep with earplugs in (I’m a very light sleeper so always wear plugs). The noise is less bothersome if you have if on full, as you get a very consistent fan noise; when you turn the fan to the lower level you can hear more of the mechanism sounds beneath it so this is more disruptive. The night/sleep mode doesn’t seem to do anything; I’m not sure what point it has.

As much as this has helped me, I wouldn’t recommend it as a solution for someone with (a) a large room to cool or (b) someone who lives in a very hot climate. It has been 34C out recently and with the AC unit on full it brings my room of 890ft down to roughly 26C. Without a secondary fan circulating the air you tend to get hot and cold spots, with the AC only really working to cool the bottom of half of the room (I have relatively high ceilings). It is nowhere near capable of bringing a room down to the advertised 17C on a hot day, but it makes things dramatically more comfortable, and I can’t really see why anyone would want to make it that cold unless it was for commercial purposes (keeping foodstuffs cool etc.)

The only real complaint I have is that the thermostat doesn’t seem very accurate and the point at which the compressor kicks in to cool the air being exuded by the fan seems completely arbitrary. I tend to keep the setting at 17C and manually turn on/off when I’m too hot / cold.

Dreading the electricity bill though !

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersUPDATE A YEAR LATER
we have used this air con last year with not problem and has been a life saver for me. Only used it a couple of times and then it went to storage. When we used it this year a few days in a row for a few hours, we noticed water was leaking from the top tab, although it was firmly closed. We contacted the inventor service
Team, which was located in greece. They were very fast to reply on email, asked questions and photos and offered advice but the next day their technical department confirmed it was a faulty appliance. They immediately arranged for a replacement, I told them it was urgent, and by 9 the next morning the courier had delivered a new air con. I can’t fault their service. They were polite, efficient and fast.

We have a second air con by Corlitec which is efficient too, but the inventor looks much better built from the actual appliance to the remote control.

      ………………..
I got this air con because I have a health condition and need to stay cool. It’s easy to install, and start right away, obviously you need some space close to a window if used as air con, but if used as dehumidifier or fan, you don’t need a window. I used it when it was 26 degrees outside and it usually gets to this inside too. It took around an hour to drop the temp by 1 degree, from 23 to 22 which was comfortable. As soon as I turned it off, the temp in the room starting rising again quickly, meaning it does work. Haven’t used the window seal, so some warm air was coming in, but that’s ok as it’s nice to get some fresh air. The only drawback so far is the noise, as you can see from the photo it’s quite loud especially in a small room. But it’s white noise, and better than boiling I guess. Won’t use it very often in the U.K., but it’s great for those very hot days.

      Good but little noisy

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI have used personal air conditioners around my house for many years, including in the bedrooms. Without exception, they have all been noisy, to the point of being loud. They have also been monsters in size.

I ordered the Chilly from the specifications for noise, not worrying too much about size or the varying reviews.

I have to say I am really impressed. Firstly, on unpacking, the unit is very compact. I would say around 75% smaller in all dimensions than the smallest of my other air conditioners. Also, with the vents being at the front, I can direct the airflow much better than on others where the primary direction is up (I know cold air sinks, but being able to direct the airflow to where I want is better, in my opinion).

Setting it up is a breeze (geddit). Attach the pipe and put it through the window, connect to the mains and switch on. There the real good stuff happened. The unit started blowing cold air immediately and it is so, so quiet compared to what I have become used to. In the bedroom, where it is located, it is little louder than a fan, especially when in sleep mode.

The remote control does all the work, options on the unit itself are minimal. This is OK, but I would have preferred to have all options on both the unit and remote control. Just a personal viewpoint, not a criticism in any way.

I also received as a separate item the window kit. This clearly says it is for sliding windows and that is true. It is no good for casement (side hinge) windows. Don’t worry, just put the end of the pipe outside the window, close it as much as possible and it is OK.

Finally, performance. I use this in a fairly large bedroom. It cools down quickly and keeps the room at a good low temperature. There is a little difference in noise between when the cooling is working and when it ticks over in fan mode. There is a little difference in noise between slow and fast fan speeds, but nothing intrusive. Left on auto or sleep mode and the noise is actually quite relaxing, once you have got used to it.

It’s not for a large room and you have to accept there will be some noise. With that said, I think this is a fine air conditioning unit at a very fair price. It seems to be a good quality build and I am a very satisfied customer.

Golden Review Award: 85 From Our UsersThis A/C unit works well, but there are a few issues with it:
The outlet hose is only about 1.5 metres long so if, like me, you want it to vent through a conventional outward opening fanlight it won’t reach. I ended up buying some 5″ ducting and a 90deg bend to achieve this. I also fitted a perspex panel in the window opening to fix the bend to.
It is quite noisy – especially on the high fan setting. It is not too bad on the low fan setting. The fan speed can only be changed through the hand-held controller – not using the controls on top of the device.
It is very heavy – over 20kg. It has castors so you can move it around, but taking it upstairs requires some strength.
The condensate drain is right at the bottom. So you either have to lift it up onto something or move it to a location with a drain in the floor in order to empty it. I don’t know how often that will be needed as I have only used it for a few days.

      Update 6 weeks later:
The condensate alarm came on today for the first time. I was expecting it. I drained about 600ml. It’s been used about an hour a day since I bought it.
I have added a photo of my exhaust fitting.

      It works
