Just what I wanted for landscape and wildlife photography. Very versatile and easy to set up for lots of scenarios. Definitely recommend.
I have been reluctant to use a tripod for years as they are so fiddly and heavy. Compared to my manfrotto this K234A0+BH-28L is streets ahead. It is a great. little tripod that is easy to use and has all the features that I would need. The plate holds firm with my heaviest lens (sigma 105) Like all tripods, I have wasted my money on,this is a bit fiddly but so much easier than the manfrotto to adjust legs. This is a tripod that I will be using, rather than it collecting dust I love the ball head which is easy to move around and firmly held in place.
Would definitely recommend purchasing, if your looking at it.
I thought I’d leave a review here after using this for a few years now. This tripod is solid, durable and sturdy. I’ve used this so many times and it still performs as new. Not a single problem whatsoever. If you want a decent tripod that lasts, get this. Stop looking at those cheap 10 tripod that only last a few months. I know because I got one of those and it’s a big disappointment.
Happy with my purchase. Could have bought direct from K & F for less but very difficult to pick which model to go for as many seem identical. K & F customer service also had some poor reviews so played it safe with Amazon and also quicker delivery. Folds up small enough to carry on the outside of my rucksack. Looks flimsy compared to my Vanguard tripod but easier to carry so hopefully will be up to the job.
Pay more, you get more. Study metals and overall terrific portability with reversible legs and amazing height levels.
Before I bought this one I purchased the 56″ travel tripod but the quick release plate wasn`t compatible with some tripods. This one has the square QRP whereas the other plates are rectangular. Theses tripods are all excellent value for money.
I haven’t had the time to use it properly. but it seems up to the job. I’m going up to The Hebrides this weekend so will be able to give a better opinion then.
This is not the steadiest tripod on the market but at this price and for this weight that would be asking the impossible. Good sturdy construction, clever design make this good value.
I needed a cheap, light(ish) tripod for a sudden trip to the Scottish Highlands as there was a fair amount of walking involved and this seemed to fit the bill nicely.
The head is smooth to pan, easy to adjust and locks tightly with no issues. The plate mount is arca-Swiss compatible so had no issues swapping plates on all my gear which was a bonus.
The legs are quick to deploy and lock up very securely. They’re relatively sturdy for the small cross section.
Some reviews mention that the tripod isn’t very stable and with the centre tube fully extended with a heavy lens/camera I can confirm that there is a definite (although relatively small) amount of wobble. However with smaller MFT gear I had little issues, especially when the tube is dropped lower. Using a guy rope and pegging the tripod down via the sprung hook kept the tripod rock steady in high wind on the side of a very exposed mountain slope.
I’ve not had time to use the tripod for an extended period so I can’t attest to its long term durability but I’m fairly confident it’ll stand up to some reasonable abuse, no doubt time will tell.
Is it as good as my Manfrotto? Of course not, but it’s less than 1/5th the price and 1/3rd of the weight, I’d buy another again should this one ever get stolen.
First impressions are that I really like the bag it comes in with the additional shoulder strap and the tripod in the carry bag fits comfortably into my usual daily backpack with room to spare on either side of it and isn’t as heavy as other reviews make it out to be, it’s around 2KG which is nothing.
The tripod itself feels really solid, easy to unfold and clip the legs securely into place with the support notches, nothing to build so it’s good to go right out of the box! Telescopic legs are great for storing and micro adjustment of the height and angle/position of each individual leg. The ball head, bubble level and fluid panning compass are my favourite features, the ball head is metal and is very secure holding my D3300, the bubble level is a really nice addition too and the panning compass dial also feels great, super smooth glide to it and no need for a big handle sticking out of the side of the tripod at full height the tripod with my camera on is around 6ft which is perfect as I’m 6’1.
Very impressed with the build quality and I honestly don’t think you’d be disappointed with this for under 100!
Great features on a tripod at a reasonable cost. Very lightweight but does suffer a little at full extension with a bit of wind ( as most light weight stuff would) Great features and ball head clamp works with my L bracket fine. Only gripes would be the bottom feet fall off easily and no spike attachments. Also mine has an issue with the screw mount on the centre column for the ball head. It isn’t level and means it will give a slight arc when doing a Pano when tripod is level. I should be able to work around it but can’t expect everything to be perfect for the price. All round great lightweight option for photographers.
Basically, if you use tripod rarely – this is great, but don’t over stress it!
Quality is not great but design, portability and weight is good.
I had a manfrotto which I rarely used. I will use this more. (PS. I’m not a pro)
Got this as a replacement back in July 2020. Used it many times now and i cant fault it. Feels well made and holds my DSLR camera tight. Even for capturing any moon image. My old one would drop.
Happy with this item, i now just got Square filter set from K&F. Worth looking at there main website , if you dont mind a wait.
As a person who shoots film, those long exposures that are necessary in low-light situations forced me to buy my first ever tripod. There’s a multitude of them on Amazon, but this one caught my eye for being reasonably priced (for a beginner) and it having the vast majority of its reviews be positive. The tripod fits snuggly under my camera (Canon AE-1), and it doesn’t budge even when I shake it around. It has so many features that I didn’t even think were important, but have ended up being very useful. Lastly, it folds down to a nice compact, lightweight size and even comes with a bag! This is sick
I could not decide at first whether I should invest in a much more expensive brand for a tripod but after carefully reviewing this, I decided to go for it.
I recently upgraded my camera to Fujifilm XT4 and so I wanted to buy a tripod that can hold my camera safely. After all, the camera itself and the lens are expensive.
For the tripod, my main purpose will be taking family travel photos for our content on Instagram. I must admit, I did not want to actually spend so much money for just a tripod. Also, I knew that I am always careful with my stuffs so I know this will last me long as I care for my things.
I haven’t tried this yet apart from putting it beside my travel/camera backpack and I am very pleased as this fits perfectly!
It is quite heavy though, I expected this to be lighter. But, since there’s a carry on bag included which is very helpful, I guess I could make it work.
The bag that comes with the tripod feels high quality and its thick.
UPDATE: brought this out on our first trip in october to kotor & dubrovnik and it worked perfectly, used for making videos and taking photos, here are some samples
Having evaluated several tripods, this is by far the nicest in terms of quality of materials – there are few plastics, and they’re of good quality.
However my camera will only be used indoors, and there’s no spreader – which I should have realised before buying.
The ball adjustment to level the camera is fine too, but I probably want a 2-axis or 3-axis tripod head – with a pan/tilt handle. Again, I should have realised this tripod doesn’t have that.
So, if none of these things are negatives for you – buy one! I think you’ll be pleased you did.
Excellent tripod, I brought a cheaper one and sent it back for being rubbish and then purchased this one although a little more expensive for budget photographers this is well worth the money, very stable and compact, extremely lightweight and durable, I have used this a dozen times and it’s been perfect it also comes with a very good carry bag not like the cheaper ones, this carry bag is robust and can be carried a multitude of ways very happy.
Decent quality .. sturdy .. made of good quality.. I am happy with the item and after looking its versatility .. its absolute must for person like me who is more into landscape photography … I did not want to spent too much money on tripod just for the name of quality as most people says U GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR but its not true always…
some big brands ripped you off .. and they are often 3 times more over priced as they want to money for their brand.. I always like to do smart shopping and dont run after big brands.. I knew if I wont like it I can still return.. but I am happy that I found this one and saved money… would recommend…
For once, a really good carry case with a decent length shoulder strap – for which I am very grateful.
Now I should review the tripod…
The legs are four-section and release, set and lock easily. The required spread/splay can be set quickly, at three pre-set angles, via sprung clips.
The ball-head (with a single screw lock) and the locking plate assembly are standard and very adequate. Again, a standard fit should you fancy an upgrade.
All in all, a good, light-weight tripod.
This is by far the best tripod I own, and let me tell you I own quite a few. It is really light and has a very durable design that helps keep your camera in balance even during strong winds. Such an easy tripod to travel with since its easy to adjust and extremely foldable. It has really strong joints and it doesn’t shake. One simple thing I love about it is the little tip that helps you screw the adapter in your camera. The best I’ve seen. Really can’t fault this tripod and couldn’t recommend it enough.
I like to keep things that I buy pristine.
Unfortunately, the way that it folds up means the legs will rub against the head, and having to use the little cloth bag every time I pack it away is an aggravation.
The “cloth bag” that I mention is supplied … so they obviously know if this issue … but the bag doesn’t appear in their photos of this unit. I wonder why?
Having had a Manfrotto tripod before this, there is definitely a difference in build quality. However I think the lower price outweighs the build. I moved from Manfrotto because my tripod was faulty and the customer service was appalling.
For really heavy cameras with a long lenses, this might not be the one for you. But with a regular DLSR this is great because;
– its lightweight
– ball head is fine once you’ve tightened it up
– decent carry case
– good quality for the price
Mostly very good, for the price I wouldn’t want or expect more. The only real issue I’m having is the ball head, when tightening it can adjust from the desired position which means a bit of tweaking but I expect this is a common issue across all ball heads. Incredibly light and compact, especially compared to my full size Manfrotto. Perfect for shoots on the move such as weddings, I use it predominantly for video- pan/tilt isn’t that smooth but again, ball head, so it’s great for convenience as I tend to use this set up for static shots.
The legs are pretty durable, although I did manage to bend one by jamming it in between some rails while walking with it extended. User error. The rest of it has held up well and I don’t think it’ll fall short functionally if it’s used normally.
I throw this in my car and it goes everywhere. It’s been buried in forest bogs, seawater, snow and sand, and stands up very well. The only negative is that you do need to keep checking the fixings, as the quick release starts to loosen (the allen key screw) and the weight hanger seems to work loose. The ball head gets a little sticky on occasion, but in general I’m impressed with this. The documents seem to indicate you can remove the centre shaft and put it in upside down, but all I do is flip the legs over. They don’t lock when doing this, but it’s stable enough.
I owned this tripod for a few months, and only used it for about 10 days of that time. The head fell apart recently — a screw fell out and what looked like a crushed bearing followed. After this, the head was unusable. K&F got in touch with me and were exceptionally apologetic. They arranged a replacement which arrived today. Superb service and the tripod is spot on.
For the money, this tripod is fantastic. It’s super lightweight and folds down to such a tiny size that it’s able to easily fit in a suitcase to take on holiday or wherever. Using it couldn’t be easier either. It feels sturdy and solid and even in strong wind feels planted. It also comes with a good carry case which is very useful.
What more to say? Cheap, feels solid, (I’m sure that mine was just faulty) and the customer service is spot on.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m off out to take some photos!
After hauling around a heavy 3kg tripod for most of my photography, I ended up buying this as I didn’t want to spend loads on a new tripod such as manfrotto.
K&K are a very reliable company to go to for photography products if you want great value products at a fair price. After using this tripod for a while now, I couldn’t recommend it enough! It’s incredibly sturdy for the weight and can be placed at almost any angle allowing for some fantastic photos! For the price, you can’t beat it, i’d happily purchase another one, should my current one break or get stolen. I’ll keep going back to K&F for photography products as they’ve never let me down with their amazing quality and good prices, especially as i’m no professional who can’t afford the best of the best equipment for now.
Having used some K&F Concept products in the past it was no surprise to me that the quality of this tripod would be brilliant. For the money you would be crazy not to buy this over a Manfrotto Befree in my opinion. The whole tripod from top to bottom feels premium, from the latches which lock the legs into place to the buttery smooth ball head that pans beautifully to the left and right (can also be locked to stay stationary). One thing I really like about this tripod is the center pole which can be reversed to get the camera as low to the ground as possible, great for getting some really unique shots, on the flip side of that though the tripod can extend very high indeed almost reaching the ceiling in my house! I like how they included the hook on the bottom too so you can add weight to the tripod to increase the stability, good for those windy days which I see many of where I live. All in all it’s a great piece of kit and if you’re torn between this and something else I’d pick this as the safe option, it’s great quality and amazing value for money.
Bought this as a travel tripod to take anywhere in the car, as my old one was a big heavy beast… thought for the money, you cant really go wrong. The price point is very good.
So when it arrived I thought Id give it a test. On opening the box, I saw a lovely, strong carry bag with sturdy zip. It felt a nice weight. not too heavy to carry places. Inside was a nice looking tripod with some nice detailing to make it look modern and more expensive than it was. The head even had another bag over to protect it, which I thought was a nice touch. It had 4 section clip-lock legs and rubber feet, with a height adjustable centre column with a weight hook underneath for added stability.
To test it I used my heaviest camera and lens combo on it, and it held them pretty strong, after giving the tightener on the head a good twist. It needed doing up pretty tight but it held a 5d mk 3, with battery grip and 70-200 with no problem. I tried it from the camera body just to see, but it felt much sturdier mounting it to the lens collar, but thats what its there for.
I did a couple of tests in low light with exposures of 5 seconds, and they seemed pretty sharp so the tripod was doing its job well. I did have a bit of weight hanging from the hook under the centre column, purely because my camera and lens were so heavy, but id always recommend doing that anyway.
Fully extended I found this tripod to be a great size. Im 5’10 and I couldnt reach my eye to the viewfinder at full height so it would easily suit the taller photographer. As with any tripod, it operate best slightly under full height. The centre column and lower part of the legs can introduce shake, so I would only extend those if necessary, but they arent weak by any means.
My overall impressions are that this is a great entry level tripod for those looking for something light, strong, and good value for money. Id definitely recommend it. I tried it with a 6d mk 2 and 24-105 too, and with that combo it was a dream, but I like to test things to the extreme before reviewing.
Recently I’ve started to use cheaper lighter tripods because I just don’t want to be carrying a heavy tripod around so bought one of these.
The tripod has lots of useful features such as one of the legs having foam on it, the panning action for panos is nice and the tripod is Arca Swiss head (much more stability on portrait shots because the lens is centrally above the legs rather than hanging over the side). The main problem with the tripod is that all the legs eventually fell off after less than a years service. This may be due to the hard life my tripods get. The reason why I’d buy this again is because I’ve just superglued the legs back in and it’s as good as new. Everything else about this tripod is perfect for me. I’m also past the stage of worrying about portraying myself as a good photographer by having a more established Manfrotto or similar. I’m more confident in actually knowing what I’m doing and knowing that this is a better tripod for me. Plenty out there …..with all the gear and no idea.
Unfortunately I didnt understand the ball head would not be stable if a
macro lens or track was added.
For normal work without a long/heavy lens or attachment it seems really
great however. The flexibility of dangling the camera could be useful to
others. The design and ease of use of the leg extensions would be hard to
better. The level indicator bubble would be more use if it could be seen
while a camera was fitted.
Oh – the bag it comes in is good too.
Overall a good quality product but my own lack of knowledge makes it
no use unless I can fix the ball – or replace the head with something that just works
with heavier attachments.
The carring bag is OUTSTANDING quality!!!
If my review helped you in any way, could you please click on the ‘helpful’ button below? Thank you
I researched tripods for some time before deciding on taking a bit of a gamble on a brand I hadn’t heard of before, largely due to a number of very positive reviews. And I have to say after my first couple of excursions, I’m very glad I did so far.
Difficult to be truly objective as I have not tried any of the more expensive tripods, but I could not find fault with this product – lightweight enough to not become a burden, but sturdy enough for me to produce a stunning pin-sharp 60 second exposure Milky Way shot from the top of a windy ridge.
And at less than half the price of equivalent products from well known brands, it seems to have a been a very wise investment.
This is a great travel Tripod for me. I’m really happy with it.
The quality of this tripod is really impressive. when taken out of the box, you’re introduced to the thick and durable carry case in which the tripod lies. The body of the tripod feels strong and robust. I believe its made of aluminium, when pulling out the legs they click in to place letting you know how far you have pulled them out and gives you a sense of security, knowing that this isn’t going to fold in. each click and clip feels like its permanent, (until you want to change it)
The body is made of aluminium so it’s light and durable. You can carry it with one hand or even attach it to your own backpack or camera bag.
The head is very straight forward to use, the ball joint at the top lets you have the camera in any position you desire. you can turn from landscape to portrait in seconds.
This tripod goes as high as 62″ which is almost as tall as me, (i’m 6ft) but as it extends to this height, it does then start to get a little weak, but it can be weighed down with a camera bag hook at the bottom. The Tripod can have all its legs at 90 degrees and and get really low.
Overall this tripod is strong and durable for most and everyday camera usage and Ideal for any photographer looking for a compact tripod solution.
Product arrived early. Well boxed. Instructions included. Comes with a great shoulderbag. Protective bag included to protect the “head” of the tripod, which I liked as it protects the spirit level. Very lightweight, but includes a springloaded hook so you can sandbag the tripod to make it sturdy. Collapses to a very small size. All in all, I’m very happy with it. The only thing that I would disagree with is that this item is 62″. It’s not. It’s about 70″ when at full height, with legs angled out and the top fully adjusted.
The leg clips are all easy to extremely easy and quick to adjust. The horizontal spirit level is easy to see and not covered by any parts of the head of the tripod.
UPDATE:
Since writing this review about the piece that broke which I fixed, the seller contacted me and offered me a partial refund which I accepted. I was not expecting this level of customer service and have upgraded to 4 stars because of this.
The Good:
Good quality right out of the box, and first impressions were good on how robust it is, how stiff the joints are, how tightly it can be locked off, and how versatile it is at maneuvering into any position you care to think of.
Overall, it is a pleasure to use, it looks nice, feels nice and is easy to set up. The foam grip is really nice to handle. The ball head locks off with a heavy DSLR nice an stable. The legs adjust in or out individually at any arbitrary angle from 0-180 degrees, but lock off at 4 separate fixed points for more stability with the spring loaded buttons at the top of each leg. It goes quite high and also pretty low, and if you flip it upside-down it goes that extra bit right down to the floor for macro photography or dramatic shots.
The bag it comes with, with optional shoulder strap is very robust and padded, and would be suited to mountaineering. It’s quite portable too. There is a sprung loaded clip on the bottom which you can hang a bag of shopping off of to keep it more sturdy in the wind if needs be. There is also a 360 spirit bubble on the head if anyone ever uses them.
The panning is very useful for panoramic photo merges, because it has markers to follow for each shot, giving you a very consistent photo merge, at least that’s the idea, which leads me into the bad….
The bad:
1. Upon only the second use, the pan head tightening screw, which is the smallest one, wasn’t quite tightening up and locking it, so I gave it another good twist and the threads in the pan head stripped easily and the screw was now useless. Not only would it not tighten, but the whole head became loose and wobbly, and generally unusable, because the threads were way too shallow and easy to strip. Luckily I was able to use an M8 bolt to grind out new threads (it’s only aluminium so was easy with a vice and spanner) and then use my 3D printer to print a new knob (bigger and easier to use this time) to hot glue on the hex head. After rounding off the tip of the bolt on my bench grinder this is a marked improvement on the original design as it takes less finger strength to lock it off now. It took me a whole morning to fix this, but I didn’t want to have to send it all back.
2. The panning does have another problem which could have cost me a new camera were I not able to catch it in time: If you try panning to the right while locked off (easy to do), it can force the head to unscrew from the base of the shaft, and this is a short bolt. If you don’t notice it, the whole head can just fall off, as it nearly did before I caught it. One more thing to watch out for. I took it apart and moved the inner bolt further down and gave it more thread to grip to the shaft and used all my strength to force it tight so it doesn’t easily do this again.
3. There is one more thing with panning… the whole shaft sometimes wiggles with the pan, where you think you’ve locked off the shaft after raising/lowering it, but you need a bit more strength to really lock it off. I’m sure I’ll just get used to having to do this though.
4. The feet should be more dome shaped, since the angles of the legs allow you do ridiculous angles. It’s okay on carpet, but the flat feet seem misplaced on this tripod when on a solid floor going at extreme angles.
Overall, this is my 3rd tripod now, and is instantly my favourite, despite it’s issues which I can overcome. I’m more pleased since I got it in Amazon lightning deals. My other tripods are more traditional, and very cheaply made. You can do a lot worse than this tripod, but then it also shows why there are more expensive ones on the market.
Couldn’t wait to receive this tripod. It is very stable even when the legs are fully extended on its lowest setting, which by the way is extremely low. This was the main draw for me when researching for a versatile tripod for use with landscape and portrait photography. The heights this tripod covers will enable you to achieve almost all compositions you could ever want. Just see how I’ve set the tripod up in the attached photo whilst testing its ultra low angle capabilities where it performed very well indeed. The ball head of the tripod is good however the bubble level is hidden when your camera is attached and needs to be levelled before attaching the camera unless you have a separate spirit level attachment for your camera. This bubble is also of no use when the central column is inverted for extremely low angle compositions, or in “macro” setup, as shown in my attached photo, as you simply can’t see it. Panning is smooth and tension on the ball is controlled using the securing screw and all works perfectly well. It also has a protective bag for the ball head which is a nice touch. It is very lightweight and easy to carry with it’s foam grip on one of the legs, and it folds down extremely small and compact thanks to the legs folding back 180 on themselves. The only thing i would have liked included is a seperate short axial column as included in the TM2515 and some of K&F’s other higher spec tripods as this would allow for an even lower upright position for your camera without having to invert the central column. This would make ultra low angle shots easier as once inverted your camera is upside down, which makes using the controls on the top of your camera a little awkward. Though with practice this would become much easier and using a shutter release cable would also make it easier. Seeing the lcd screen on your camera is also a bit of a pain at such low angles but getting low down is just one of them things you have to do sometimes to get the composition that you need and is well worth it for a composition that stands out. Overall for a very stable, extremely versatile tripod, which comes with a good ball head and which offers such ultra low angle compositions. Is very portable and for just under 54. This comes highly recommended and I believe it is unmatched in terms of value for money and quality at this price range. The only reason I haven’t given 5 stars is the lack of a short axial column and the spirit level on the ball head being hidden by the camera. I wish I’d bought it bundled with the K&F bag as K&F Concept obviously produce products of very high quality.
Really good tripod. Solid and not heavy but good stability even for outdoors conditions. Folds easily and become really compact to carry it with you. Legs adjust to different angles and cover a big range of heights, foot are cover with rubber to avoid slippery, good especially if you are going to use it inside. It is coming with a small plate to attach to the camera it really makes it easier to quickly attach and detach the camera. It is a ball head adjustment which I prefer rather that the three axis ones, it is easier and quicker to find and lock the perfect position. An extra point is that is coming with a nice bag to carry it and the straps as well. Happy with my purchase.
Straight out of the box I could see that this tripod would give me a nice compact option for travelling. It’s lightweight (weighing just 1.13KG), folds down pretty small (46.5cm) and even comes with its own carry case (which my Manfrotto does not). This tripod comes with a ball-head – a different system to manoeuvre the camera than what I’m used to. I guess I could always look at replacing the ball-head with a 3-way system on this tripod for future use.
Build quality of the K&F Concept tripod is what I would describe as decent but not ground-breaking but at this price point (at the time of writing this – 53.99 on Amazon) you’re not going to get carbon fibre or other high quality materials instead you get a magnesium aluminium alloy frame and plastics. Fully extended a camera can be mounted at 156cm which isn’t the loftiest of heights but I guess a tripod marketed as being compact isn’t going be among the tallest on the market. Having said that, 156cm will probably be tall enough for most situations. The centre column of the tripod can be reverse mounted for macro photography. Similar to all tripods I’ve ever used, the K&F Concept tripod comes with a quick release plate system where a plate is mounted to the bottom of your camera, this plate has a corresponding part on the tripod which securely attaches the camera to the tripod.
I liked how small and lightweight the tripod is for carrying around. I have to carry a lot of gear with me to shoots so lightening the load a little is always good in my book. Having said that due to the lightweight I wouldn’t say that this tripod would hold up well in windy outdoor conditions when shooting landscape photography. For my main uses it performs well and the carry case is a very handy addition. For the price it’s certainly a decent option for a photographer that travels a lot.
Wanted a more compact tripod to replace a cheap as chips tripod I’ve had many years use out of, as I wanted to do a bit more landscape photography, this would be much easier to carry. Based on reviews this seemed perfect.
It arrived very well packaged, with a nice little pouch cover the head to protect it, the carry bag also has the added option of a shoulder strap and I like that one of the legs has a foam coating around it, helps keep your hands a little warmer when carrying it in the winter. The trip is very compact, lightweight and very sturdy in windy conditions.
It states it’s quick release, which to me, means flicking a little lever and it’s released, this you have to screw to tighten around the plate, ok only a few seconds, but when your hands are freezing, screwing and unscrewing something isn’t always easy to do!
That was just a minor niggle for me though and one I was happy to live with as I was impressed with the tripod.
However, after just a few weeks of use it started to leak a sticky gel from where the head rotates. I would’ve expected this from my cheapo tripod, but not one at this price. I understand it’ll need some kind of gel to keep the rotation so smooth, but had I known it would leak as much as it does I would’ve chosen another tripod, as it gets all over everything. Reading through the reviews there only seems to be one other who’s experienced this, so I’m guessing I just have a faulty one.
Sadly I’m outside of the return window now so just have to make do until I can afford to replace it.
***Edit 04/12 – Seller (dcmall) contacted me within hours of this review being published, and advised the tripod is faulty, they sent a replacement out which was received the next day. Will test the new one and update my review accordingly***
***Edit 11/12 – Tested the replacement tripod this weekend, and it’s been great. When comparing the two, I noticed the head on the first was very loose/wobbly in comparison to the replacement, which makes me believe the first one I received was definitely faulty. I slipped and fell on the replacement this weekend on the ice, no breakages (tripod or me) the head is still solid and leaks no gel.
Very happy with the service provided by the seller (thank you) and now very happy with the tripod!***
As I’m not using the camera much in the winter, I put the tripod up in a spare room, with a field telescope mounted. I noticed the ball head movement seemed rather stiff, making panning awkward, but never having had a modern tripod before, I assumed they were “all like that.”
I barely used it in the first week I had it, but was getting concerned about the stiffness when panning, and started to wonder if there was a problem. I had backed of the adjusters to their minimum friction, but it didn’t make any difference. On day six, I went to look through the telescope and guided it with my hand on the ball head…..only to feel a very sticky, glue like substance leaking out where it rotates.
I have had to return the tripod, and cannot praise Amazon enough for their prompt refund.
I can not recommend this item though, for the reasons stated.
Add!
Since writing this report I have had some positive responses from the seller, and they acknowledged there was an issue with the oil leaking from the ball head…which they have now sorted out. They have also replaced the tripod with another one (and indeed uprated me to a better one!)
So I have to amend this review and mark it differently in the light of the great customer service. Very happy with this tripod, and it works and looks brilliantly. Thanks to dcmall (the seller) for sorting this out for me and proving that good customer service can be achieved. It’s appreciated.
I have not used it in the field yet but it is very impressive at the reduced price in the 50 range (I would not have been happy if I had paid 250+). This is ideal for my needs. I have set it up with my camera and telescopic lens and it is very stable although I feel I would want to add a weight to the hook provided if conditions were windy. I generally carry my camera and use it hand-held but wanted to have a lightweight tripod for hide and seated positions where holding a camera still for a longer period is tiring. The tripod was delivered two days after it was ordered (over the Easter break) and it was very well packed. There is a good carry bag included if required. The construction is very solid.
It only takes about 60 seconds to get out of the bag and set-up and ready to go. It is very easy to adjust and very stable with the tripod legs splayed out. The quality of manufacture surprised me as it is at least the equal of any tripod that I have bought before, it certainly appears to be built to last. The quick detach plate on the tripod head is also well made and a nice feature as it is possible to detach the camera quickly if required for handheld shots, and it doesn’t get in the way.
Now I have little to say about the tripod because I am still a starter photographer (and my opinion must not be valid to an experienced tripod user), still I can give you some hints about this Tripod.
1) The Tripod is really really beautiful it looks exactly as the image shows (model 62” Aluminium), and I am loving it the design of the buttons (that adjust the angle of the legs) and adjustments of center tube height.
2) The Tripod is strong and stable, I open the legs with full length extension and it still gets fixed to the ground very steady.
3) The ball-head is just amazing!! I can flip my camera 90 degrees (of course I don’t really need 90, I am just saying its possible) pointing the sky to shoot my stars photos !
4) The ball-head has a very accurate control to be rotated 360 degrees, it’s just so smooth and nice to rotate it, I love it.
5) The installation of the camera in the ball-head is so so easy ! I kept attached the small adapter below my camera, so every time I use the tripod I just need to fit inside the ball-head adapter and it’s done (it’s like 5 seconds, maybe less).
6) The installation of the Tripod is really really easy! I am such a novice at this, but still I got the tripod fully extended in less than 1 minute. And I did this while I was discovering the main functionalities of the Tripod.
7) The tripod itself is really intuitive to use, you don’t even need to go look into the manuals or tutorials on how to use it!
8) And last thing to note, is the lightness of the Tripod ! It’s so stable and still is so freaking light ! it’s amazing for me to carry it around the woods at night!!!
I would like to end this review saying that for this price I can assure you that you won’t find anything better !! I was searching for something like this at this price for weeks…
Thank you so much KentFaith (K&F – Concept) for this perfect item at such a good price!!
I have used this tripod on numerous occasions and I can confirm that it is excellent value for money and I’m delighted with the purchase.
The tripod arrives in a strong, well made carry case – which has a very comfortable shoulder strap too. The tripod fits in the carry case easily – although you do have to make sure it is all fully collapsed for it to fit.
The tripod is made from a very sturdy magnesium aluminium alloy and it certainly feels solid and robust when in use. It provides excellent stability for long exposure photography. It is not too heavy to carry – but it’s certainly not the lightest out there.
A nice touch is one of the legs is covered with foam padding to make the tripod comfortable to carry – and this is how I usually carry it as I find it bulky and inconvenient to have the bag too.
The legs extend with flip out clips, which enable easy extension of the legs and when fully extended the tripod reaches approx 1.3m. As I bought the tripod to use at low level, I have rarely used it fully extended but I feel it will provide adequate stability.
The tripod mounting plate attaches to the camera by standard screw fit and it easily slips into the tripod and is tightened by a screw. The head of the tripod is a kind of ball mount which allows numerous pivot angles and tilts. I have found this a very useful feature to help level the camera.
The tripod feels solid, some may say it might be a bit on the heavy side, however i would rather have something that is a bit heavier than something that is light and at the mercy of the weather.
All the screws and nobs appear to be well made and securely attached to the threads.
the final finish gives the impression that some one has given this tripod some thought.
i was pleasantly surprised by the amount of metal that is used in its construction giving hopes that it will perform as well as it looks and feels. some aspects of its construction is somewhat better quality than supposed “named” brands that retail at a significantly higher price.
Please do not get me wrong, i will be up dating this review from time to time and if anything is not right with this tripod, then i will certainly let you know about it.
update
Had it few days now and been using it quite a bit, and have to say that the tripod really performs very solidly. however i have the chance to use the tripod with a Manfrotto MH055M0-Q6 magnesium ball heavy duty head. The tripod legs are more than a match to support this heavy head and i am still impressed by the performance and sturdiness any all positions (even with the substantially heavier head on).
But please do not get the idea there is anything wrong with the head that is attached to the tripod when delivered because there isn’t, i now use this head with a smaller tripod and it is working fantastically.
Please keep looking in for further updates and longer use. I am still keeping the five star rating for now.
I bought this stand for an astronomical telescope since at the entry level, the limiting factor in most telescopes seems to be the entirely replaceable wobbly tripod. Although this is a camera tripod, I had no difficulty at all mounting it to a Celestron Travel Scope 70.
I’m 6’6″, and this tripod extends to a height comfortable for me in a standing position, and is very stable at that height/ Although it has more weight than the aluminium tripod that came with the telescope, it’s not at all inconvenient to move or carry. The leg clasps are initially a little fiddly to adjust but easily understood, and the construction is sound and free from wobble – as you’d want.
On a more superficial note it’s also a very handsome device in brass-gold and black. It’s become a permanent fixture in my living room.
Overall it’s a very good tripod. At first I was somewhat taken aback by how heavy it was, but to be fair the weight is listed so no room for complaint and very quickly get used to it – had it on my back for 30 miles cycling yesterday and hardly noticed it. The legs fix in place nice and firmly and fully extended the camera is eye level and I’m 5ft10, perfect.
But….as noted by “Siney – 2 March 2016”, I find panning SUCH hard work as although the swivel head seems solidly built, the resistance is HUGE and is impossible to modify. As a result it’s not smooth, not because of shoddy construction causing jumps, but it seems that the resistance is hydraulic and will move slowly to begin with but extremely slowly once pressure has built up. It is definitely NOT a tripod for sports or panoramas which is a shame as panoramas was one of the main reasons for buying it.
Also the legs don’t slide up or down very smoothly, there’s inconsistency between legs. Minor point in overall usability but that’s not something that you would expect of a tripod at this price level. Once extended, fully or partially the legs are firmly held in place, the leg angling mechanism is very good and once you work out (instructions missing) how to invert the tripod it’s very easy to use for downward macros.
It’s not a top quality tripod but then it’s not a top quality price, so 4 out of 5 just about sums it up – good tripod for a good price.
After a lot of investigation and what appears to be a lot of good quality options available in the market I chose the k& F and from what I have seen so far its the perfect choice and amazing value for money.
Upon opening the box you can see the product is fantastic quality, easily opened up, sturdy when set up, my Sony A6000 fits on perfectly and is smoothly panned around with no issues.
The legs extend with a simple smooth mechanism and still feels really stable, hopefully continued use will result in the same positive commnets
The product also fits nicely in the cloth bag provided with no problems. The only issue is the product is a touch heavier than I expected bu this just supports the sturdier nature.
