Looked at several different SSDs, but decided on this one because I always had good luck with Kingston products and the price was really good. It’s been in a automobile scanner with Windows 10 for over 3 months now with no problems. Cloned my old SSD put it on this one with alot more storage space. I’m totally satisfied.

Having been in technical support for many years, I knew Kingston was a exceptional brand and my thoughts have been confirmed. Due to space issues on my C drive, this upgrade was greatly needed. Not having any free power ports on my system board, I used the CD drive and power cables to access the new drive. The cloning process was straight forward and pretty quick. There was one slight issue with partitioning of the C drive following the cloning to take advantage of all the new space but a Kingston tech support agent walked me through the resolution and it worked perfect. Kudos to an awesome product and awesome tech support staff!

    I had problems copying my W7 O/S.
I bought this SSD, an IDE adapter case (to fit into my old Acer Aspire) and an IDE-USB adapter cable.
The O/S wouldn’t transfer because of a bit rate transfer issue, caused by the IDE-USB cable. Because my laptop is real old i had only one way to make this work:
I used Macruim Reflect 8 freeware.

    1. Create a Macrium Rescue USB or CD.
    2. Run Macrium and create an Image of your O/S or partition you want to copy, and copy onto a 3rd drive.
    3. Then swap the SSD for the old IDE or whatever HDD.
    4. Boot your PC from the Macrium Rescue USB/CD you created. Connect the 3rd drive.
    5. Show Macrium where the Image is on the 3rd drive, then tick the SSD drive you want to copy it to.

If you get stuck, this should work for you.

    Review:
    1. I couldn’t find a Kingston IDE adapter case!!? They sell the SSDs, they sell SATA SSDs but no IDE adapter cases? I had to buy one from 3rd party!
    2. This SSD on it’s own, without case, is twice the price of SATA SSD for half the memory capacity. Why? 512gb SATA is 25 atm.
    3. Boot times gone from 150secs to 30secs.! And the old HHD only had 1.5gig of space left which isn’t a problem anymore. The whole PC is running much faster.
    4. The Microsoft windows experience score for my IDE HDD was 4.6. The SSD score is 6.4.
I’m very happy with this SSD, i always buy Kingston storage. Would recommend.
Can’t understand the price difference though..

This is an excellent SSD. I used it to upgrade an old ACER Aspire E1-571. Greatly improved the performance of this old machine.

Take some care as to whether you need the whole kit to clone your old hard drive. Otherwise you might waste some money as I did. Since the drive I was replacing had unrecoverable boot sectors, cloning it was not practical. After backing up the old drive’s files, I simply installed a new system on the new drive and copied my old backups onto the new drive. I could have thus saved money by just buying the drive. To boot, I have seen a number of postings of people having trouble with the cloning process.
In hindsight, the ability of cloning your old drive onto your new drive appears to be of limited utility as long as you have good backups and know how to restore them.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI wanted to upgrade my elderly laptop with a larger hard drive and it seemed SSD was the way to go rather than HDD. Partly for speed and lack of moving parts, and partly because I wanted to go to 4TB and that wasn’t an option with a regular HDD. But a 4TB drive that’s rated for the kind of use I’m expecting to give it runs to some $500, so I decided to test the waters first. Enter the mSATA drive.

Yes, I know mSATA is smaller and slower but figured it would not only be faster than my existing HDD but also potentially work as a boot drive so I could have my entire SSD as a data drive, or as a backup volume for things small enough to be copied locally. In any event it’s cheap enough that if I didn’t like the speed boost I got I’d know to explore a new computer rather than dropping more $$$ on improving the one I have.

Having never seen an mSATA drive before it was remarkably small. Installing it was trivially easy – I first installed it into a USB enclosure and cloned my boot volume onto it, then fitted it into my laptop. It took longer to get the back off my laptop than it did to fit the drive – it’s literally a case of plugging it in, pushing it into place and securing it with a screw.

It works a lot faster than my old HDD, which is nice. It gives me a larger boot volume than I had before, which is also nice (you can get this thing in a range of sizes, I went for 512GB and configured it as a 256GB boot volume, a 200GB encrypted data partition, and the rest as swap space.

The only real downside of it is that it seems to get quite hot. The Kingston software that manages their SSDs reports it running at about 25C as soon as it’s fired up and it warms to around 50C (122F) after a fairly short time even when it’s not used hard. When I generated a 200GB encrypted volume on it and copied some files into the encrypted volume the software reported it reached 68C. My laptop has pretty good fans in it, and this feels like the sort of temperature that’s not necessarily a good thing. So far it hasn’t affected the performance but I’ve only run it for about 25 hours in total so far.

From the top of the laptop there’s no obvious evidence of anything spectactularly warm, and I haven’t gone as far as running it with the back off and checking the temperature with a thermal camera, so it may be the software is reporting a temperature higher than the reality. I mention it because if you’re running something that’s already pushing heat limits you may want to know. It seems like the kind of situation where a fan would help, but adding a fan would mean it wouldn’t fit into a regular mSATA slot any more.

So overall I’d like to give it five stars but hold back a little because the temperature is mildly concerning.

A friend fitted a 500GB Kingston SSD to his PC, and was so happy with the result, that I decided to fit one too. My PC was a bane to use, taking at least 15 minutes to boot up properly. Noisy and ‘chattering’ all the time. With his help, a lead he had purchased, and freely available software, we cloned the old 1TB HDD to the new 1TB SSD. It took about 2.5 hours for his to clone, but mine took over three hours (possibly because it was 1TB). When it was done, EVERYTHING was as it was – except now, it is LIGHTNING FAST! Saved me buying a new PC, and it’s now a joy to use.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersFirstly I’d like to say I was skeptic about the tech details when I read it would reach 15x faster than HDD.
It was the reason why I bought this SDD as 252GB.
Well, I must say I’m really impressed and it surely is the most well performed upgrade I have been done. I’m saying honestly.
At some point I decided record this video to help other people to see exactly what expect for this KIGSTON Sdd.
Before I decided changing the Hd for one SDD I watched so many videos at YouTube, comparing the performances and I still was skeptics and I was wondering why not change this laptop.
As you will see, it’s true what they say. The performance is now fabulous. The value of money is a bargain comparing to the result you will reach.
    I do recommend

When I came to clone my existing HDD to the Kingston SSD, I experienced a problem with the software. On further investigation I discovered that Acronis no longer support the software download provided by Kingston, so it would always fail no matter what I did. I downloaded Macrium Reflect free version and this resolved the issue.
The fault lies with Kingston who provide the kit, not Acronis, I purchased a Kingston product, who don’t ensure the software is up to date.
Installation was easy, and now my laptop is much quicker.

You do need to look at the on line video as there aren’t any instructions. That said, it would be helpful if there was a printed indication that the lid for the caddy slides off and the USB/SDI cable is inside. I used this on a 7 year old Acer 430T timeline that I’d upgraded from Win 7 to Win 10. Prior to installing the SSD, the HDD would run at 100% read/write for about 15 minutes on boot up whilst the Win 10 update process did its checks. With the SSD, this takes about 15 seconds! So, an old laptop I used as a backup now fully restored.

This was bought as a replacement/upgrade to my existing SSD that was showing an “error” state on life span. It arrived well packaged and all components were as illustrated. I needed to clone my existing SSD. I followed the link on the Activation Key notification, downloaded and installed the softwear. The on-line instruction manual/user guide was comprehensive and gave detailed step by step instructions not only for cloning but many other features that are useful for both experienced & inexperienced users. My old SSD still functions & will be used as a “low risk” data store mounted in the 2.5″ USB enclosure that was part of the kit and has turned out to be an added bonus.

What an improvement. I was sceptical about purchasing and installing this SSD. However, I went ahead and how pleased I was with my decision. Physically the installation with the Kit was so easy plus the included case allows me to use the replaced HDD as an external drive. However, I was unable to use the recommended software to clone my existing OS to the SSD. For some reason, even unknown to Kingston support, after many hours of trying I couldn’t clone the OS, so I then used a free app. from the internet and that went like a breeze (hence my 4 star rating for installation). But that aside I am really pleased with the increased speed this SSD has made to my laptop making it usable for some time to come. If you have a PC with a HHD and is slow I have no hesitation in recommending this reasonably priced SSD to speed up your system.

I have had Kingston products before which were great and this SSD is no exception.
The HDD on my old Dell Dimension 9200 started to make strange noises so I cloned the HDD using Macrium Reflect on to an external drive ASAP before it crashed. I then copied it to the Kingston SSD and it has given my Dell Dimension a new lease of life.
Previously I did give this a 1 star rating as my desktop wouldn’t recognise the SSD but this was due to an error on my part so I’ve now edited this review.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersMy laptop was really slow and taking ages to boot up. I was thinking of getting a new one or taking it into the service centre for an upgrade but after a bit of research online and watching some very helpful videos on YouTube I concluded I could do it myself. This one on Amazon was a better price than going direct to Kingston for exactly the same thing with the added advantage of prime delivery. Instructions are clear and easy to follow but the procedure for downloading and activating the cloning software is a bit convoluted. Provided you have confidence enough to take the back cover off your laptop you will be able to do this. Everything worked as advertised and my laptop is now much faster and more responsive.

Like some other reviewers…I took the option of using this as an external drive, so I’m probably not really putting it through its paces and it was intended. Kingston Hard Drives are a name from my past….they used to be THE hard drive brand. The improvements with SSD drives have really moved on the only drawback was the slightly limited capacity/price dilemma. No problems getting up and running….i might try transplanting it as a second drive to my geriatric PC.

This 256GB Kingston KC600 is currently selling at about seven quid less than Samsung 860 EVO which is means it’s cheaper than the cheapest Samsung I’d consider buying – Samsung make a QVO drive although not this small, but I’m not interested in the compromises involved in buying a QVO. So, the Kingston isn’t an expensive SSD and yet its performance seems quite respectable.

On the packaging, which is designed to display the KC600 in a retail environment with the SSD sitting behind a sheet of rigid transparent single-use plastic, it says that it is 15X faster than a traditional 7200 rpm spinning hard drive. I can’t say for sure whether this is an accurate speed rating, partly because its years since I last used a traditional hard drive, but in the PC that I installed it in the speed of startup and using Office applications seemed broadly equivalent to my laptop that has a Samsung 850 Pro SSD, so I’m not complaining.

Kingston is a brand I’ve purchased over a great many years, starting with their excellent RAM which I’ve used to upgrade dozens of machines, so I have come to trust them, and everything about the KC600 confirms that my trust is well placed. Of course, it should be many years, if at all, that this drive might let me down.

Anyone who knows about computers will tell you that SSDs are the thing now. If you aren’t using an SSD at least for your system drive, then you’re doing it wrong. In recent years the price point has dropped a lot, and although they still aren’t anywhere near regular hard drives in price, they have now reached a point where a reasonable sized one is well within the price range of most computer users. This Kingston one is as good as any other I’ve used, and as it is double the capacity of my Windows drive, I took the opportunity to swap them over to give myself a little more space. So far all is well, and my PC starts up and runs programs nice and quick.

This is very easy to set up, windows had it up in running in no time. It’s slotted very easily into an external drive docking station where it will serve for backup. It wins too on looks, some drives can look very utilitarian (not doubt as they are intended for internal use), but this has none of that look, in fact it is quite smart.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersFirst things first: You’ll need to initialise and partition this drive when you first receive it. Out of the packaging, it is not plug and play. Bear that in mind if you fancy using it in a 2.5″ USB enclosure, as I did. If you don’t initialise it, your PC won’t see it and you’ll end up sending it back as faulty, or bothering Kingston customer service, as I did.

It was when I phoned Kingston customer service that my perception of Kingston began to change. They answered the phone quickly, and they were friendly and helpful. They were quick to offer to replace the unit, which they thought might be faulty. However I used my preferred internet search engine, and phoned a friend and discovered that I would have to initialise the SSD before I could use it. That involves a bit of what I call faffing around, as well as access to your PC’s SATA. Anyway, once initialised, I ran a couple of speed tests on the drive. One for SATA, to see how fast the drive actually is. And one for USB3, which is how I shall use it. (In a cheapo USB3 enclosure.)

The results were pretty good, I have to say.
SATA speed topped out at 498.30 MB/s write, and 538.32 MB/s read.
    USB3 speed topped out at 245.68 MB/s write, and 254.98 MB/s read.
That seems pretty good to me. (See screen grabs of ATTO benchmark tests I’ve attached.)

I have no idea what the claimed 256-bit encryption is all about, but I won’t be using it knowingly.

Before this test, I hadn’t got a particularly great perception of Kingston. I didn’t think anything bad about the brand, I just thought it was the sort of brand I would skip over for a “better” brand, when pricking a product. I can’t explain why I had that perception, but in my mind it just wasn’t up there with Lexar, Sandisk, etc.

But having tested this, I find this Kingston KC600 SSD is fast, cheap and has good customer support. (Though they do assume some customer experience of SSDs.) I’m pretty impressed with it, and have revised my perception of Kingston accordingly. I’d be happy to buy another based on my experience so far, but its longevity remains to be seen.

    Better than expected

Excellent hard drive. Easy to install and mount within Windows. Speed was excellent (on a par with my existing Sandisk SSD’s) and Windows now has it set up as an encrypted backup drive. Unbeatable value at this price point.
My only slight complaint is that it would have been nice to include a SATA cable (for internal use), as my PC had no free ones remaining, but they’re cheap enough anyway.
