Bought it to use as a basic TDR for fault finding network cables . Unfortunately it was way off the mark for accuracy on the short leads i.e. a 3m lead read 5m. Similar issue on the wiremap – its supposed to do 1 to xxxx meters, but i couldn’t get it to test anything less than 3m. Shame really as a few of the other functions were ok.
After days of frustration attaching ends to cat6 cables i have been running round my house – this has got me up and running in no time. Through a combination of showing what pins are not working and also the distance to the fault helped me identify some faulty cable and also which connectors were incorrectly connected.
The menu is simple – the english language is a little bit questionable – but it is all perfectly usable. So far my tests have all been accurate e.g. cable length, pin faults etc. It is a lot cheaper than the branded tools – seems great for home use.
More functionality than a fluke tester even though they are the best but cost too much. Good solution for small business like myself affordable. Love the fact that it can measure length not just wire-map polarity and continuity. Also come with ping test and switch identification brilliant! Best thing is you can also save results to SD card for handover! I’m astonished how much you get out of this little device for the price. Also the manual is spot on giving you test results information made basic. As a professional telecommunications engineer the results in the manual and the device are spot on. I’d suggest using a 5v charger nothing above as I’ve read it can damage the battery and device. And you can only test POE on the coaxial cable not RJ45 or RJ11 or will damage the device so beware make sure you use the POE on the side, and only charge to 100%. You can also take a charging bank or plug into pc to charge so it’s a very flexible device for lack of charging points on a site. Very mobile, Brilliant starter kit.
I found very useful to test connection internet ,trace the data cables and found damage place long cable.it is important found when no O&Ms connected or link to the COMMS panel .Amazon fast delivery recommend.
