Shoe sizes are not standardized. Every shoe manufacturer uses different measurements in terms of instep height, toe shape and foot width. However, the basis for your own shoe size is always the length of your feet. Thus, you should always determine your foot length before buying in order to choose the right shoe.

I needed a pair of low hiking boots for an upcoming backpacking trip. I originally purchased a New Balance Prime Day’s special and ordered my regular size of US mens 9. I expected it to fit per my previous experience with the NB brand. Apparently they’re using a different last which was smaller than expected. I returned the trail runners and purchased these Moabs but ordered a full size larger. Since I’m not particular about the color, I found a scheme that gave me the best price. I’ve had Merrels before and the construction was exemplary as expected. I like rhat these have good arch support and the EVA liner feels comfortable after 2 days of light use. I really like that the outer sole is Vibram with a good tread pattern. I’m going to use these Moabs with thick wool blend socks and Injinji liner socks.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersI wore these shoes backpacking through Europe for two months. I walked hundreds of kilometers, including highly rugged terrain in the High Tatras and the Albanian Alps. They have held up the entire time with no signs of damage. They have great grip and saved my ankles more than once after an awkward slip.
They’re very comfortable and I can honestly say my feet barely ever felt sore, even after walking 25km trails. I hiked through mountains, as well as walking for hours on concrete and cobblestone European streets, and I found they worked perfectly for both scenarios.

These versions are not waterproof, but I find they’re pretty resistant and it takes a lot to get soaked. They dry relatively quickly as well.

The downsides: They’re hot and stuffy. You need merino wool socks, and even then my feet got pretty sweaty. They have a reputation as true-to-size and fast to break in, but I found this wasn’t true. I went a size up. The worst aspect by far is the soles, which are weirdly low quality and simply must be replaced with inserts. But you should do that anyway if you’re hiking.

They’re also quite ugly if you care about appearance. But again, they are for hiking that’s not a concern for me.

I highly recommend these shoes, especially because they are frequently on sale. They were $50 on Amazon when I purchased them. For the quality, the comfort, the durability and the price, I think they are great shoes; especially if you want no-fuss shoes that work for urban walking and outdoor hiking.

What I love about these shoes is that the minute you put them on, they feel like you’ve been wearing them for years. So comfortable and true to size. I’ve been wearing Merrell Moabs for many many years and I don’t think I’ll wear any otheres.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersI am a US 10.5 shoe wearer, we are the majority/plurality of men in the United States, and we know exactly what size shoes are and there is no fooling us.

This shoe is .5 sizes too small. That’s it. Next time I will order an 11. There is, of course, zero percent chance my foot got larger right now, it’s just a .5 size off, as usual with Amazon shoes.

However, this is the best pair of shoes I’ve owned in a while. Decades even. They are long lasting, work great in wet surfaces, handle mud, they’re not too warm or cold, they shed water, they don’t make my feet stink, no callouses/bunions, no blisters, no aching feet, but they pinch the toes ever so slightly during longer runs/hikes, so they are 1/2 size too small. That’s it. That’s as good as mail-order shoes get these days unless you just order them from your bespoke Cobbler in The Square Mile. A perfect 10.5 will not produce bruises under my big toes during extended use, and I’ll never notice the pinch at the toes. This shoe is just a tad too small, the usual Cross-ocean cost saving measure. When will they learn you can’t cheat rulers? Never it seems.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersFor probably 15 years or more, I wore Merrell Moab Ventilators as my go-to everyday casual shoe. Wearing them as often as I do, I wore the soles down pretty fast, so I was getting a new pair almost every year. Then, when Merrell switched over to the Moab 2, something was different. They didn’t fit well, didn’t provide the same support, etc. They looked the same, but it felt like Merrell had “cheapened” them or something. So I decided to try Oboz Sawtooths instead. I was immediately impressed by the fit, the support, the look and the overall quality feel – far superior to the Merrell Moab 2. Then, the very next year, Oboz changed the design of the Sawtooth to the Sawtooth 2, and I was not impressed. The Sawtooth 2 fit well, but they took away a lot of the toe ventilation that was a big reason I chose them, and the Sawtooth 2’s just kind of looked dorky. So when it was time for my annual new pair of shoes, I noticed that Merrell had redesigned the Moab 2 to the Moab 3, and they were getting good reviews. Combine that with finding a pair on sale for almost 50% off, and I decided to give Merrell another chance. So far, I am impressed. They look and feel like my Merrell Moab Ventilators of old, and they even have an improved, more aggressive Vibram sole. So kudos to Merrell – they appear to have listened to negative customer reviews about the Moab 2 and put the familiar quality back into the Moab 3’s.

This is my second pair of these shoes…not that the other ones have worn out. We’re planning on some traveling, and a second pair seemed like a good idea. At home, I’ll alternate the two.

The first pair is 3-4 years old and has held up well. In the last year, I’ve needed to super glue a couple of the edges of the soles. That did the trick and held up fine.

I’m retired so no need to dress up very often. On the occasions where I do, it’s typically not so formal that I can’t wear these with the stepped up clothing.

I do some hiking with our dog, and they have been water resistant and have good traction when I need it.

I don’t write many reviews. These are such a good and long-lasting product that I wanted to share my appreciation and satisfaction with them.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersBefore I purchased this shoe on Amazon, I had been trying on different brands and styles of shoes at various stores. I knew I wanted something built with good materials that would last me several years, look good with a variety of different clothing options, and work well for a wide variety of activities including hiking, working out, walking around all day, etc., and also at a good price. I’m not a fan of spending tons of money on several different pairs of shoes tailored to each individual activity. I found a pair of these at a store and really liked how they looked and fit. My foot fits well in the size I purchased, and there is some arch support as well, but not overpowering. I’ve never has a pair of Merrell’s before, but they’re known for good quality and these shoes look and feel like good quality. They have real leather, thick tractiony soles, an agressive look, and tons of color options. I’ve worn them for a couple of weeks and they feel great. The best part was the price. At the store I tried them on at, they cost $120. Then I checked on Amazon and they had my size for under $60. I noticed the price was different depending on size, and possibly color, with some of them costing as much as $120. I’m not sure why this is. You might want to select different options before purchasing to see if one size or color is a better price. They are also probably a bit heavy for people that want something really light for running or working out, but for me it just makes my workout a little more challenging. It’s not supposed to be easy, right? Other than that, there were a couple of other little issues I should mention. For some reason, the shoe I got looked like a lighter shade than what was pictured. Then I held the shoe up next to the picture, and they looked the same color. It may be that the pictures were taken under different lighting conditions that made them seem a bit darker, I don’t know, but I’ve seen other reviews that say the color is different, and I thought so too until I held them right next to each other. A trick of the mind. The last issue is size, and this is the most important. I’m glad I tried them on at a store first, because I generally wear a 10-1/2, sometimes an 11. At the store I needed an 11-1/2, but they fit perfectly! I ordered an 11-1/2, and again they fit perfectly. So I would probably order one size large if you want them to fit. On a last note, I liked these so much that I ordered another pair of a different color. I felt like these were such a great shoe at such a great price, it was well worth it to have a second pair. These will probably last me a good 10 years between the two.

I have been using the Moab 2 Ventilator for the past 5 year for short summer hikes . They are sturdy, grippy and best of all cool and breathable. They are not waterproof, so don’t get caught out. Very happy with a shoe that deserves its reputation. Buy half size up as slightly tight fit….

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersI recently purchased these, and I must say, they have exceeded my expectations in terms of comfort, fit, and overall quality. As someone with flat feet, finding the right pair of shoes can be a challenge, but these shoes have been a game-changer for me.

First and foremost, the sizing of the Moab 3 was spot on. I decided to go half a size up to provide some extra toe room, and I’m glad I did. Despite the slight increase in size, the shoe still offers a snug fit around the heel, ensuring excellent support and stability. The extra room in the toe area did not compromise the overall comfort in any way.

One of the standout features of these shoes is their substantial build combined with lightweight design. The Moab 3 feels durable and well-constructed, making it suitable for various terrains and activities. However, what surprised me the most was how incredibly lightweight they are. This aspect not only enhances the overall comfort but also prevents the shoes from feeling heavy and cumbersome, particularly during long walks or hikes.

Additionally, these shoes excel in breathability, making them ideal for hot climates. Even in scorching temperatures, my feet remained cool and dry thanks to the excellent ventilation and moisture-wicking properties of the materials used. This feature adds to the overall comfort and prevents any discomfort or sweating that can occur in warmer environments.

What truly sets the Merrell Men’s Moab 3 apart is the fact that they require little to no break-in period. From the moment I put them on, they felt incredibly comfortable as if they were custom-made for my feet. This is a significant advantage, especially for those who need a reliable pair of shoes right out of the box.

In conclusion, I highly recommend these shoes, particularly for individuals with flat feet seeking exceptional comfort, support, and durability. The added half size for extra toe room did not compromise the fit, and the shoes maintain a snug feel around the heel. The lightweight design and impressive breathability make them perfect for warm climates. Moreover, the lack of a break-in period ensures instant comfort and convenience. Overall, these shoes have become one of the most comfortable pairs I have ever worn, and I couldn’t be happier with my purchase.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersI was suffering terribly from plantar fasciitis and what seemed like a heel spur for more than a year. The worse it got, the less I moved. It got to the point I was limping all day, couldn’t walk barefoot etc.. and then.. the lesser I walked. Although better insoles seemed to help a little, I was convinced this was my new life.. walking in pain. Then.. Took a new job that required me to be on my feet a bit more. Got talking to a vendor about my feet.. he said he had the same exact issues,.. you need to try Merrell shoes. Well, 10 months later? Its life changing. The support and arches almost seemed uncomfortable at first, like my feet weren’t used to it. I was able to get from 300 steps a day, to 1000 relatively quick. Feet still ached most the time.. but I could walk and get around. Limped around only a few weeks.. 2 months.. ok, I can do this. Within 4-5 months.. wow, my feet feel at 50%. Could easily go 5000 steps. Now, its 10 months.. I can (almost) easily walk an 18 hole golf course, which is about 4-5 miles. Honestly, my feet aren’t 100%, but I can walk barefoot on hardwoods with no issues.. still feel a little now and again. But .. I’m not lying that I give Merrell shoes all the credit. “Put on some Merrells and get moving!” (Thats good! I wonder if they’ll let me do their marketing?)

Merrills typically take about 8-9 months before wearing out on the breathable mesh portion of the upper shoe for me. I wear em daily & walk about 6 miles per day with my dogs on woodland trails. I bought this pair last month delivered may 28th/23. Started wearing them about a week later so about a month of wear. (See photo of sole of shoe showing brand new condition)

I took a seat and noticed wearing and fraying already showing up (on both shoes)Not to mention I swap between these and a pair of Columbia hiking shoes bought exactly the same week. Columbia’s holding up fine except they take a while to work in while the Merrills are comfortable straight out of the box. Disappointed but thems the breaks I guess

    Disappointed....

I have been wearing Merrell shoes for many years. They are comfortable right out of the box. I like waterproof models that keep my feet dry in bad weather. The improvements in Moab 3’s are excellent.

The shoes seem well made & are comfortable straight from the box.

My toes are currently a bit sore after a long walk yesterday in my current Summer boots, as the the boots aren’t quite wide enough at the toe end. Although my feet are quite narrow, I find this issue with a lot of boots I have tried on & my current boots were the best of a bad bunch. With these Moab 3 shoes on my feet, there is no pressure at all on my already sore toes, so there must be more width for my toes & I therefore think that the shoes will not cause me any issues when I do start walking in them.

I normally wear a UK size 10, but based on Amazon’s recommendation for my size in these shoes, I ordered a size 10.5, which is a very comfortable fit. Bizarrely, I now see that Amazon is currently recommending a size 10 as the best fit for me & I think that this size would have been too small.

I will report back after I have worn these shoes for a bit, as initial thoughts can be deceptive.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI bought a pair of these Merrells for my son, figuring with the two feet he has, they might come in useful to him. Turns out he really likes them for disc golf, which is a game played in public parks by creepy dudes who try to throw a frisbee-like disc into a basket made out of chains. I know, weird Anyway, my son says these shoes are great for disc golf because the traction is great and the uppers seem to be fairly durable and hold up well to the elements. If there’s a chance you’re into disc golf and are actually employed and have the financial means, it’s my understanding you can absolutely buy these shoes with confidence.

I like that the shoe, size 12 fit perfectly. I usually try on 11.5 first and some times need 12’s. When you order on line you have your finger crossed. They fit so good I purchased another pair in a different color. I then purchased a running shoe in the Merrill brand. So yes I love the brand. Trust the size 12 to fit me.

I owned a cold weather Merrill shoe for more than 10 years and just loved how they fit and functioned. The soles were warring out so I had to let go of them. That was the reason I shopped for this brand. If I find more deals on Amazon, I might get another color. If the shoe fits, you will not be disappointed.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI normally use Keen hiking shoes but thought I’d give these a try for the price. They’re quite light weight, which is nice in some ways, but also not as good at protecting one’s foot from sharp rocks, stick pokes, or snow/cold. If the outside gets wet, you feel the chill right away on the inside. Note, I didn’t say your feet get wet, but if it’s slush or wet snow, you feel the cold right away in the toes. Still, I think they are fine for fair weather use on maintained trails. The 11.5 size I got fit just a tiny bit small but still within what I would call a normal men’s 11.5 US – just don’t plan on wearing heavy socks if you’re a true 11.5.

6 months in to wearing a pair of Moab 3’s and they’re still going strong! And seem a significant improvement in quality – I’ve taken a risk and bought a second pair!

I have been getting very disillusioned with Merrell recently. Many seem to suffer the same “collapsing heel” cushion after less that 6 month west in my experience, with the fabric wearing quickly and the plastic support piece becoming deformed. This despite using a shoehorn almost every time I put them on! After 6-12 months, they’re not fit for much other than the bin!

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersThis boots are good like 3.7 stars out of 5 but not the same quality like Merrells from 7 years ago, also better fit that Moab 2. When you order them just check sizing because they run small and Amazon sizing chart is wrong ! Usually size 44 EU is 28.5 cm but in Merrell sizing is 28 cm so if you need size 28.5 cm you need to order size 44.5 EU. Also when you order version with Gore-Tex go half size biger that you usuall size. Another thing is that you need to check sole they can be damage under production process and not good QC. Vented Moab 3 version is made in Bangladesh and Gore-Tex Moab 3 made in Myanmar.

Good boots but watch sizing !!!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersIt’s worth noting that these, while not labelled as ventilator, are the spiritual successor to the Merrell Moab 2 ventilator. As such, when walking in the midwinter UK through a cold dark tunnel at night, a sudden gust of wind came and I felt it on my feet! However, I don’t find it to be bad, it’s a freeing feeling. Apparently I don’t mind about not having the warmest shoes ever. I think they’re great all round.
