Great mouse to keep in you laptop bag when travelling , and Bluetooth means no need for a usb adapte
The most fun thing about this mouse is the ability to flex. When it’s straight, it really is so compact and thin which makes it ultra portable. I really like how they’ve integrated this gimmick with the functionality of turning the mouse on and off.
My only complaint is that it feels quite different and strange compared to normal mice as you are only holding the thin edges of the body of this mouse, it will take some getting used to but I think it’s worth it with how portable this is.
I really love how they’ve made the surface of the mouse butons touch responsive, you can swipe up and down, side to side with one finger anywhere on the surface to trigger a vertical or horizontal scroll.
The feet could be improved, they just feel like hard plastic and they don’t glide very well.
Using this on my Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and it works like a dream.
Even before you open the box, you can just sense a class product. The build of the Arc mouse is excellent and the left and right clicks are very quiet but not silent. The touch scroll is fantastic, but then again I have been used to using a touch mouse for about the last 10 years (the Logitech Ultrathin Touch Mouse). Even though I have very small hands, this fits perfectly for my needs. I’m mega pleased with it, so much so that I am tempted to order another colour, i.e. the sage (I bought the black which I am currently reviewing right now). All the other colours are more expensive, but not sure why? Maybe Amazon could consider dropping the prices to match the price of the black? An excellent product from Microsoft and and the usual excellent service from Amazon.
Automatically links, no need for a dongle. Folds flat for travel. Responds quickly and no connection problems.
Hmm! The jury is still out on this Microsoft Arc Mouse. The only reason I bought one is because my main mouse is a Logitech MX Master, which in my opinion is the best mouse in the world, but also the size of a small moon. For travelling I needed something as comfortable as the MX, but without the bulk. I considered the Logitech MX Anywhere 3 Compact, but even without a carry case, that is still a portly mouse. I find those flat ‘travel’ mice very awkward to hold, so the Arc seemed like a good compromise. It is far more comfortable than normal travel mice, but it’s that price tag that is the real problem. If you pay full price for a Microsoft Arc, then I think you are crazy. But even at sale price, it just doesn’t give you that premium feel. The arc mechanism creaks when bending and flattening it and the tiny (non replaceable?) slider pads are a bit of a worry. It feels a bit delicate. For the asking price, I was hoping for something with a bit more substance. It is quite clever though, with its three-finger click and invisible horizontal and vertical scrolling sensor. You can add more features by downloading the Microsoft Keyboard and Mouse Centre Software app. Bending the mouse turns it on, then it connects to your PC/laptop super fast. I will keep it for the portability factor and the relative comfort compared to other travel mice. I just hope it proves reliable, because it’s far too expensive to wear out after a couple of years.
Perfect if you travel for work as it folds flat in your bag – works perfectly and easy to install
So the husband wanted this, I personally think it’s quite expensive for what it is but he loved it and uses it every day
The first thing you notice about this is the quality of the packaging, the mouse is presented in a 3mm cardboard box which feels very expensive & makes you think this is a quality product!
On opening the box the mouse colour is true to the image shown on the box, if a little flat or matte in appearance, it feels excellent quality from the instant that you pick it up, it’s incredibly easy to connect via Bluetooth & easy to use as it comes with a clear instruction manual, the Bluetooth connection works seamlessly every time.
My previous mouse was an old Microsoft Arc mouse which connected via a USB port on my laptop, since this new mouse connects instantly via Bluetooth it has freed up the USB port for use with another device.
In operation the mouse feels good in your hand but it is slightly different to the previous device as the high point of the arch is more situated towards the back of the mouse, this doesn’t cause any problems it just takes some getting used to but after about a week once you’re used to it you will not want to return to the old style mouse again.
The cursor reacts well with no lag in movement, one of the major differences with the design of this new arc mouse is the lack of a central wheel which allowed you to navigate precisely by counting clicks up or down which came in handy whilst using Excel, without this central wheel it’s more a case of feel as you slide your finger up & down, initially I wasn’t sure I would adapt to this change as I’ve used Excel for many years & got used to operating it that way but after using this then attempting to return to using my old mouse I am now reluctant to revert back to the old tech.
Beautiful design and great to hold which is important as I suffer from atheritis and my hand doesn’t cramp at all
Very nice comfortable moise which goes flat making it less bulky to pop in a laptop case. A bit too expensive for what it is though
The is the second Arc mouse I have purchased. The previous one lasted over 3 years (and I am quite hard on these devices). The only hiccup I have encountered is that occasionally it seems to drop its signal and I have to make a few attempts to reconnect, but otherwise a very good mouse and I particularly like the way it folds flat as I do a lot of travelling with it.
Excellent device, and its focus is mobility, and it makes a great set with Microsoft Surface.
Always keep mobility in mind. Use it at the airport, a presentation, or at a coffee shop table.
Other options may be better to use 8 hours a day at your office desk.
The ice blue mouse and keyboard are not the same colour. Pretty disappointing. Snap flat to turn off makes it easy to store and travel.
This is my second Arc mouse the other one having stopped working after 5-6 years of regular use. This newer version is very slick and I love that it is Bluetooth and I don’t lose another USB port. I still have trouble with the vertical scroll which is frustrating, maybe I will get the hang of it as time goes by but I am keeping a conventional USB port mouse to hand for the moment.
What did I like? EVERYTHING
My work is somewhat demanding I burn though mouses 3-6 months last time I upgraded to an msi wired mouse gave me just over 12 months life!
I assumed wireless mice were out of the question the battery’s just weren’t lasting even rechargeable ones but this mouse changed everything!
I thought this time I’m going to spend the money see what happens… life changer
The battery I haven’t had to replace yet and its been a while (can’t remember how long but I know i would of changed 3 times by now)
I wanted to play with this so when it arrived I was then leaving to work away and connected it to my laptop.
It’s smooth
Runs on any surface I can sit back put my keyboard on my lap and use the mouse on my leg! Relax work style!
The ergonomic are brilliant.
When it folds down it switches off its so sleek it fits well I’m my handbag I even slide it in my pocket and forgot it was there for 12 hours. Also adds slight security measure when you can easily slide the mouse away blocking others from access your computer… (until they get another mouse of course)
Robust enough to withstand my temper when the computer glitches
Anyway so connected to my laptop perfect connected again to my computer perfect easy 3 second hold to connect simple! I switches between the two and don’t need to keep reconnecting it just picks it up and so instantly as well.
Only problem don’t run a laptop and computer together with the mouse obviously one devices needs to be disconnected or it gets confused (durh! Should of realised that!)
The touch plate thing on top is just so easy to use and natural!
Dislikes none!
But I’ll be honest I don’t have a bad word to say but my partner 55 year old male picked it up like toilet paper stuck to his shoes with the same expression “can’t use it don’t like it” he spent his days in a workshop with cars – computers are not his fortee
So simple absolutely 100% amazing highly recommend unless your a fumbly male who barely uses a computer and is heavy handed
I really like this mouse. It has left click, right click and scroll. You can also assign a three finger click to a shortcut – I have this set so that it will trigger the back button on web browsers etc. The mouse is lightweight and although quite compact, feels nice in hand. It love the way folds flat to turn it off and for storage. It’s is just so super portable and fits really easily into a pocket in my laptop bag. The mouse is powered by two AAA batteries which tend to last many months of daily use. It’s connects via Bluetooth to windows or Mac devices easily and without the need for dongles etc. I have a couple of windows and Mac devices and have observed the connection to be robust and reliable.
I have two of these mice and unfortunately I did have an issue where the surface finish on one of them started to wear through in the mouse button area. Microsoft support handled the issue really well though and sent me a replacement free of charge. I’m sure this issue was just an anomaly as my other arc mouse is even older has not shown these signs of wear.
I work extensively on my laptop. This mouse works well for the intended purpose (does not drift from soft surface as other mouse). It is quite comfortable to hold. The flexible function is an added bonus.
Great mouse when paired with a Surface Pro (7). The folding design allows me to carry this around in my bag without fear of damage or taking up too much space. I like the use of touch pad over traditional left and right buttons and a mousewheel; I’m able to scroll using just one finger both vertically and horizontally which is a joy when working with spreadsheets. Bluetooth wireless connection is fine, battery life seems solid enough.
It is extremely comfortable and responsive. I would not normally spend this much on a mouse but just purchased the Surface Pro and thought i would give it a go.
No complaints with the product, it is a great mouse. However, I would probably not pay the price for it again as there are many comparable products on quality and performance for half the price.
This is a really great mouse, especially for travel where it can just be folded out and stowed away. A great addition to carrying around an MS Surface Pro in a compact bag. What it misses is a a central / third button which is essential for a lot of software written for the PC.
Whilst I like the small form-factor of this mouse for travel, it doesn’t come close to the comfort and tactile response of the Logitech MX Anywhere 2S on the desk top with a real scroll wheel and a middle button along with lots of other buttons (that I don’t use).
I will use the MS Arc Mouse for travel but will stick to the Logitech for serious work at home.
Bought my first bluetooth Arc Mouse with my first Surface Pro in 2015. A couple of upgrades later (of the Pro’s) the original mouse was still going strong after 6 years until the left button developed an intermittent fault. So, the new one arrived this morning and we’re away.
Lovely mouse to use, super precision, light in weight, the button and “scroll wheel” (it’s not a wheel) work perfectly, and its portability is without compare. Just flatten it and you can slip the thing in a shirt pocket, matching the easy portability of the Surface Pro. Blue tooth performance in my experience is faultless.
Firstly , I don’t get the negatives referred to; BT connectivity was easy and I suspect the challenge with reconnection is down to the pc itself IMHO. Ergonomically, I prefer it to the previous version. Yes, its lost the physical demarcation between buttons but anybody using a mouse should automatically have that sense of where to press. I work in IT and have seen many people use it .
Looks good and more solid to use, and no fiddly USB connector to worry about.
It works seamlessly with the Surface Pro 7. Now I’ve got everything that Microsoft had to offer for this. I didn’t think that I needed this mouse, until I had started to work from home more often, and especially where the track pad on the cover wasn’t sufficient to work with a little more precision.
When this mouse is flat, it is off. But when you arc the body until it clicks firmly, it turns on and connects to your device via bluetooth. The touchpad at the front acts as the left click and right click. I love that you can slide your finger forward, back, and side to side for scrolling!!
I bought this to compliment the cover and pen in the same colour for my Surface Pro 7. Came quickly and works a treat. As with any mouse it will depend on your hand size and use as to how well this mouse will work for you. For me it is ergonomically good. A bit pricey, like all genuine Microsoft accessories, but quality is good and of course it pairs instantly to the Surface Pro 7 without the need for separate dongles or messing with Bluetooth settings.
Probably not an essential item, but, I like it and find it useful. Battery life seems good particularly if you switch it off when not in use.
Despite having a capacitive sensor used for scrolling, clicking is achieved via a button push (there is no “silent” capacitive-only mode).
It would also be very nice to have a “touchpad mode”, whereby one could move a finger, rather than moving the whole mouse. To this end, the ability for the mouse to be flat, while acting as a touchpad, would be similarly useful – but the mouse turns off when flat. ie: it MUST be arced, to be on.
Finally, the “arc” of the mouse is not very ergonomic. Too steep while simultaneously being too small.
That said: the sensor is very good. The device is very compact. The bluetooth works fine with Linux. I do not regret the purchase, I just wish it were slightly better.
The idea that there is a “gaming” category for the features is laughable. This would be absolutely horrible for gaming.
I bought this as a birthday present for my friend. She used to have a black one and have used for 5 years. Now that she bought a new surface laptop which is white (or platinum?), I figure this white mouse will be a perfect match. According to her feedback, the mouse is beautiful and easy to carry. It’s smoother and lighter than her old one. So, great choice for yourself or gift. Although a little expensive compared with other mouse..
This is how you do a portable mouse – fold it flat and it’ll fit in your pocket without looking out of place. Curl it into shape, and it’s a fully featured mouse! No wasted battery life or fiddly buttons, just ready to go. Dongle-free connection is a definite plus, especially if like me you’re using it with a device with limited ports. The battery compartment doesn’t have the satisfying magnetic closure of the lower end Surface mouse, but while that’s a shame, it isn’t a big deal. It won’t be opened often.
The only real disappointment with this moues is that despite having a touch-pad like single surface for left and right clicks, vertical and horizontal scrolling, there’s no gesture support. It really feels like you ought to be able to pinch to zoom, or have three finger gestures to navigate desktops. A strange omission, given the thing’s form factor.
Still, it’s a good quality product apart from that. It’ll accompany me wherever I go!
Simple and very compact design. Unique because it packs away flat and you bend it to form the arc shape before use. I’ve not had this long enough to comment on how robust the moving joint (and associated electronics) inside the flexible rubber exterior that makes this possible is. However, I think this is a quality product and a lot of attention has probably gone into the design and quality of construction.
Pairing was very straightforward and once paired, using it was just a case of bending it into shape to switch it on. The mouse then works just like any other good quality optical mouse but the left and right clicks are housed under a track pad that works flawlessly for horizontal and vertical scrolling.
Again, I’ve not had the mouse long enough to comment on battery life. In any case, it only uses two AAA batteries so it is never going to be expensive to run!
This is quite an expensive mouse but it feels like a premium product with a very clever, portable design so I am pleased with my purchase. However, as a premium product, I would have expected some sort of case to have been included, even if it was a simple cloth bag.
I’m off to a conference in a few days. I’m taking my Surface Pro 6 with me and didn’t want to take my Logitech MX Master mouse as it’s a bit bulky for travelling.
If you also want a lightweight mouse for travelling, the arc mouse is a great option. The snap functionality works perfectly and it is super lightweight. You do, however, have to pay the standard Microsoft Surface premium to get the mouse.
Pros
——
* Gorgeous little mouse
* Snap functionality works great
* Super portable and lightweight
Cons
——-
* Expensive for what the mouse offers
* Very few buttons when compared to other mice in this price range
* Not as comfortable to use as larger mice (which is to be expected)
So far I’m loving it. Snap the mouse to turn it on. Snap it back to turn it off. It’s a great idea and works great.
This mouse is like no other. It’s on switch is bending it from the straight off position. It is easy to bend, and comfortable to use. When off, it is flat and fits into a pocket easily. The batteries – 2 AA – are easy to obtain, or recharge, and also easy to place in position. The operating part is just a flat screen – like a laptop touchpad area, doing all the functions of right click, left click and scrolling. It is the scrolling function which gives the 4 star rating, instead of the 5 star. Scrolling up and down is not as accurate as a mouse wheel. The left-right scrolling is even less accurate, and cannot be relied on – possibly because some apps don’t cater for that function. So, it’s nice to look at, feels good, and fits into the pocket more easily than any other mouse I know.
In general, an improvement to their previous generation grey Arc Touch or ltd edition Surface Bluetooth mouse. A few changes have been introduced:
Haptic feedback has now been removed and in its place is a trackpad type feature which means you spend less time dithering between keyboard trackpad and mouse. Haptic feedback can sometimes be useful, but the previous Arc Touch mouse proved sometimes cumbersome when browsing lengthy webpages or documents that you speed read through. The touchpad feature offers more of a usability upgrade whilst sacrificing the distinct left/right separate buttons of the Arc Touch predecessor. Would be even better if they incorporated trackpad gestures, ie pinch for zooming, or 3 finger swipe for screen grabbing, or twist scrolling by gesturing continuous clock or counter clockwise circles.
(As far as I’m concerned, only Logitech’s MX Master’s dual function scroll wheel comes close to being the perfect approach for mouse scrolling).
Bluetooth stability is better on this newer unit, with drastically reduced instances of dropped connections.
Shape has changed a little, it now has parallel sides which means you need to unlearn the way you held the previous Arc Touch upper square which took a while to learn how to grip to counter the awkward lower tapering where your palm cups the lower half of the mouse.
This is the reason mis-pressing rights for left clicks with this new item. It’s irritating at first but soon becomes a non-issue once you make a conscious effort to acclimatise to the new ergonomics.
There’s a better snap action when opening or closing on this one, it feels more positive but it’s not a game changer.
On the whole once I got used to it I think it is an improvement over the previous generation product.
The only concern I have is durability. The finish on the previous Arc Touch looked tatty after less than a year, the rubberised lower cover started looking like a female pensioner on a prolonged suntan holiday in Miami, all wrinkly and having seen better days. Also the painted grey/silver upper had dulled and flaked away, hopefully this new product has had an improvement to the quality of plastics in use, time will tell.
Price is a little steep, but that’s Microsoft getting wiser to the appeal of chic portable tech.
Wish they could use similar tech to Logitech’s laser optics which track on glass and perhaps introduce an improved battery indicator.
Otherwise, all good with the new Arc.
Lets face it, I bought it because it looked cool. For that it has hit the mark- five stars.
On top of that it works really well as a mouse on every surface tried so far. It fits the hand well and has that nice matt feel which hopefully will last. I was worried about resting my finger on the right side of the pad while clicking with the left but it seems smart enough to work that out. The scroll up/down works really well being speed sensitive. The connection by Bluetooth to my Dell XPS 13 was easy and has been very stable so far.
Almost everyone who has admired it up has wondered out loud how long the break switch will last but I guess we will know that in a year or two.
What would be really nice would be track-pad style multi-finger support for zoom, clear screen etc which it feels like its capable of doing but doesn’t. Other than that its a very pleasing travel mouse.
