I love this vacuum. Miele does not disappoint. I also have a traditional Miele vacuum which is brilliant but I needed a wireless one as we have multiple floors in the house. Easy to use and easy to clean and battery holds more than I expected and very good suction.
Pros:
It’s fairly easy to maneuvre, going round corners, from one type of flooring to another etc.
Easy to store & charge.
Cons:
Not great to maneuvre on stairs. I’ve found I have to hold the head down and push it where I want it to go. G-Tech was better on stairs.
Also cleaning out the dust is easy to a point but really difficult to remove the inner filter. Even my husband struggles and it doesn’t work every time and we just give up. Managed to open it twice.
Both this & G-Tech fail on being able to remove easily to clean. I had to put the G-Tech between my legs in order to use both hands, it had obvs been designed for a man sized hand to open.
I’m a fairly strong woman but just not strong enough to open the inner Miele filter and sometimes neither can my husband – a very strong manual worker! We’ve watched the video manual but a YouTube video said it’s tricky & like opening a child safe medicine bottle. Nothing like the Miele instructions then and even this technique – although has worked – has also failed!
Wish designers could think about how a woman, with smaller hands and less muscle is going to operate open & clean these gadgets.
I had a V12 animal Dyson at home (two dogs!) and needed one similar for visiting my girlfriend (together four dogs!). All my appliances are Miele and love them, so I was tempted to try this new cordless. I’m so glad I did. If you’re thinking about changing or upgrading your Dyson, look no further. This cordless vacuum is way way better. Let me explain why.
First of all, Let’s just talk about the form before the function. I am not a fan of the Dyson look. Its gaudy, gimmicky look and its bright colours are best hidden away. This Miele on the other hand looks beautiful. If you are a design and interiors fan, there is no competition. Now let’s talk about the function. So many things annoyed me about the Dyson but everything has been answered by Miele.
(1) Dyson was quite heavy on the wrist, but with Miele the motor and collector can be low down. I haven’t moved it up, it’s perfect down low. (2) Dyson didn’t seem very powerful and always blocked up, but the Miele is super powerful and no blockages yet. When I say powerful, on low mode it breezes through carpet, in eco and max mode it gets increasingly harder to push as it sucks the hell out of the carpet. Dyson had to be on max all the time and ran out of battery fast, the Miele is brilliant on low setting and lasts much longer. It also has a detachable battery so you could get another if you wanted a longer run time. Again much better. (3) The Dyson had an annoying trigger, the Miele has a switch. A small thing, but it all adds up! (4) This Miele has a light on the bottom, I know the newer Dysons do, but I love that light bar! (5) Also on on Miele it’s really easy to switch out nozzles which also attach to the machine, unlike Dyson. (6) The balance of the Miele is a joy in the hand, stairs are great and you can hold the frame intuitively with your other hand. Dysons not so much with the motor higher up. (7) The whole filter system and collector emptying process is miles ahead of Dyson (which felt like it was being rebuilt every time you had to empty it). The Miele you just unclip and twist. It works perfectly and I can’t think how it could be improved. (8) The build quality of the Miele is also clearly bullet proof. Compared with the Dyson which always felt like a toy and had weird suspect swirly plastic. (9) The Miele stands up! I forgot how much I missed that. (10) The Miele automatically adjusts suction to the different hard and carpeted floors.
My only niggle is that the Dyson conveniently automatically starts charging when you put it in the cradle, but you have to plug the Miele battery in. I guess this is useful if you charge another battery separately, but I’d like to see auto charging when put in the cradle. Apart from that I can’t fault it.
It’s also a solid replacement for an upright also. If you are trying to decide between a new Dyson or the Miele. Don’t even hesitate, buy it, you won’t be disappointed.
Excellent cleaning time from a battery charge; this was a major reason for purchase as we have a large house and the Dyson we have (admittedly an older model now, V6 Animal) does only one room before needing a recharge. This Miele takes longer to charge but seems to keep going for ages in comparison. The cleaning power is also good and it adjusts automatically for the type of floor and thickness of carpet. The only disadvantege is that the dust container is very small so needs frequent emptying and it is a bit stiff to empty if you have arthritic hands.
This is an excellent vacuum cleaner. The battery has a reasonable length of use on a full charge and the suction is quite powerful. It is also light and very manoeuvrable. The only downside is the small dustbox; the hoovering of one carpet can fill it. I might add two other minor niggles here: the dark coloured plastic of the dustbox makes it difficult to see exactly how full the box is, and the emptying of the dustbox is not as easy as one would expect (the bits you have to “unscrew” are quite stiff). There are some very useful attachments, especially the stair carpet brush.
LIKES; lightweight, easy to use, adaptable, long life batteries, light on brush head, powerful suction, no over suction on lowest setting, so great for curtains and delicates.
DISLIKES; dust collection container is ridiculously small for such an efficient vacuum cleaner. It’s more like a children’s toy.
COMMENT ON OTHER REVIEWS; others have said it is difficult getting fluff completely out of the dust container because it collects around the filter and space is tight, some have resorted to pulling it out with their fingers or a using a stick, however there is an easy trick; remove the filter body from the top of the dust container by an anti-clockwise twist and click of the lid, the filter cradle comes out of the top attached to the lid and the trapped dust/fluff drops out of the bottom trap door without any fuss. Simple and no need to touch the dust at all.
FINALLY A NOTE TO MIELE; include an option to add a flexible hose to make getting into tight spots and cleaning the car easier, just like the Vax Blade 4 Pet & Car cordless. Then you would just about clean up on the competition (excuse pun).
FOLLOW UP; it appears my old Dyson wasn’t picking up dust very well as the dust collection container on this machine was filling up quickly. However having used it for a few weeks the amount of dust and fluff has dropped off, not because of lack of suction, but because it has sucked out the bulk of the residual dust from the carpets.
I read quite a few wildly contrasting reviews of the Miele while trying to decide if it was worth the extra cost. We bought this one from Amazon Warehouse so the cost was much less, but either way it is an excellent machine. Great suction, good battery life, very manoeuvrable and easy to empty. We got the version with two batteries – a good idea if you have a larger area, but one is enough for a good whizz round. Bear in mind that these stick vacuum cleaners can never replace a good main powered machine for a thorough whole house deep clean, and are not intended to. But they are excellent for a quick clean of a room or two, stairs, hall landing etc. without having to wheel out the big machine. I am impressed with the suction and battery life. It is easy to reconfigure – but once you find your favourite configuration you are unlikely to change it often. The clips can be stiff, but that’s because the engineering tolerances are tight to ensure good suction. No point having loose connections! The dust bag is plenty big enough. If you are filling it on less than one battery run then you have the wrong tool for your amount of “dust” and your carpet must be a right mess!
After a couple of years of owning the Dyson V8 and putting up with a number of frustrations with it (including getting through 2 batteries) I decided to do a bit of research on an alternative. The Miele had a good rating from a number of sites, and having a good impression of other Miele appliances we’ve had, I decided to buy one.
Good Points:
Suction is impressive, even on the low setting. Seems considerably higher than the Dyson and the speed with which it fills the bin with (mostly) dust is amazing.
Flexibility is good from the point of view that it has 3 modes. As the main unit is quite heavy, we favour the mode where the unit is at the bottom rather than the top – it’s much more balanced this way. As a handheld, it’s quite bulky for things like cleaning the car but it’s powerful.
Battery life seems very good, we haven’t managed to exhaust the battery pack in a day of cleaning.
Storage of the unit is great for us as it will stand up on its own when the motor unit is installed on the bottom. We haven’t tried the wall mount because it can be so easily free-standing. It clicks into an upright position and can stand in a corner somewhere. One of the big issues we had with the Dyson was that it was so unstable and top-heavy. It was constantly falling over and the plastic body was seriously cracked from this.
It’s a good looking piece of kit and I favour its classic style over the Dyson’s more futuristic look.
Bad Points:
The collection bin is this sweeper’s Achilles’ Heel. It’s too small for one thing, and fills up quickly. Detaching it from the unit when it’s full is also fiddly and stiff. Turn the top cover too far and you’ll dump the contents all over the floor and your feet as you take the bin off the motor unit. When you come to empty it into a waste bin, it always requires raking out – there’s nothing to push the contents out and it’s too small a space to allow the contents to drop out, because they’re always relatively tightly packed. This is something of a pain. Then, putting it back on the unit is likewise fiddly and stiff.
The standard brush head is quite big and too big to go under a number of items of furniture in our house (which the Dyson went under without a problem).
So far though, these are the only negatives and we’re very happy with the Miele.
Incredible suction on this lightweight cordless vacuum. I bought it to replace a heavy corded model from another manufacturer and I am delighted with the Miele performance. The most demanding setting lasts for 12 minutes of battery power – more than enough to finish the task throughout our 3 bedroom bungalow. The medium power setting is also very good and extends the battery by another 30 mins or so. You do, of course, have to work out how best to cope with dust disposal from the bagless canister, but that is true of all bagless vacuums, I guess. 5 stars for suction, weight and manoeuvrability. So why not 5 stars overall? Because I had to send it back after 5 weeks of fairly light use for what turned out to be a faulty battery. Not at all what you expect for 500. Miele replaced it fairly quickly, but the whole thing was an unnecessary hassle and involved a robust telephone exchange with Miele about whether it was Amazon’s problem or Miele’s. Miele accepted the problem and the machine has now been returned with a new battery. It’s all working again as of today, but if it goes again in another 5 weeks – or even 5 months – I will be re-visiting here to radically downgrade the product.
I’ve had this Miele for over a week now and used it several times. I bought it to replace a Dyson Absolute and a Miele corded Cat and Dog. The Pros: the suction power is incredible. It picks up so much in comparison to the Dyson. Great that you don’t have to change heads to go from hard surfaces to carpet. Unlike some reviewers, I love the light. I don’t think it’s a gimmick at all. It really helps you see what’s hiding in the corners and around skirting boards. I’m getting plenty of power from one battery to do the whole apartment (we’re on three floors) so may not have needed the extra battery. But I don’t always do all the vacuuming in one go. The Cons: the price, of course, but you are getting the quality you’d expect from anything by Miele; it is heavier than the Dyson; the dust container seems quite small so I have to empty it several times when using but that does show how effective it is; I’ve also found it hard to release the tube, etc – I have to put my foot on the head while pressing the button; it doesn’t go as flat as the Dyson so while I can vacuum under the bed, I’ll keep the Dyson to get under the sofas. Rather disappointed that I’ve had to spend even more to buy the small head for doing the stairs as the main head is too unwieldy. Is it worth the money? On the whole, yes, just for the incredible suction. My corded Miele has been a trusty workhorse for years and this is a definite step forward.
