Bought an MSI product because there was no way I would be dealing with Asus again because their customer service is horrendous.
The customer service from MSI is 100% bette
If it has everything you need, it’s a great choice. It includes a built in heat sink over the SSD slot, which I appreciate. I would argue that the WiFi version of the same board (which my friend owns) is worth it, however, as it has built in Bluetooth functionality.
It’s a good board for the price. Solid VRM and cooling. Everything is great until I was to test its pcie 3 x 4 slot. My 6800xt works well on its pcie 4 x 16 slot but can’t boot on its pcie 3 x 4 slot. I tried another gpu RTX 2080 which should be working well on pcie 3 slot also fails to boot. I guess there might be some bios settings to force that slot to work at the designed speed but there is only settings for the pcie 4×16 slot. Not sure if it’s my individual problem or not.
Also to note this board only support Gen 12 intel cpu. You need the 12 Gen cpu to boot and flash bios to support Gen 13 intel cpu.
Nothing to fancy i only bought it because i decided to upgrade my computer with new RAM and new SSD’s.
The MSI PRO B660M-A supports DDR4 Slots and also M.2 SSD’s
good mainboard for a fair price
It has all the ports I needed. HDMI and serial port for dual monitors work very well.
Quindi comunque consigliata.
Awesome. Super fast delivery easy to install. Perfect condition. 5 sta
Facile installer.
Bon rapport qualit prix.
Gran eleccin.
Perfect motherboard for a DIY computer. Has all the essential features of a modern motherboard. Really flies with a Gen.12 Intel Core i5 or i7 and a Gen3 M.2 NVMe SSD drive, coupled with 32GB of memory. Assembly and configuration was easy and uneventful. If the CPU you choose has integrated graphics (e.g. Core i5-12400) you can connect two monitors directly to the motherboard (4K HDMI 2.1 and VGA). If you need high performance for gaming, then you may need to add a graphics card, but for general usage the integrated graphics are just perfect. No problems with my pre-existing 350W power supply feeding everything. As a bonus, the micro-ATX small form factor allowed me to keep my old mini case.
Cons: Missing some of the bells and whistles of more advanced motherboard, such as built-in WiFi and Bluetooth, or 2.5G LAN, a DisplayPort and USB 3.2 Gen2 ports and USB-C.
My one complaint is not having an easier way to remove a big gpu. The clamp is hidden underneath and there’s no backup button or switch to help unclamping the gpu for easy removal. That with a master cooler blocking the way makes it difficult for when I plan to upgrade my gpu.
Sehr gutes Mobo, ziert meinen PC ganz wunderbar. RGB Fan Pins unten links waren verbogen.
Me da tranquilidad y seguridad.
Good value board, with plenty of options and works very well once set up, only issue is the bios regularly freezes so had to do 1 or 2 settings at a time, save, exit and reboot into bios to do more, I have 2 of these boards and they both do the same even with the latest updates, could be very frustrating if you like to tweak things often, but if you just set up and run from there on they are very good value.
I ordered this board because it got good reviews for handling high processor power loads compared to similar B660 boards. I was planning on installing a 13th gen processor. But after further research I discovered that the serial number contains a B and the 4 digits after the B indicates the yr/mo the board was made. In my case the digits were B2202.. so Feb. Then I checked the MSI web site and the 13th gen bios was released in july. Also the i3-12100 bios was released in March so this board likely would not work for that processor either. Unfortunately this board (MSI Pro B660M-A ddr4) does not have the capability to update the BIOS without a functioning cpu. I returned the board for a MSI Pro z690-A DDR4 which has a bios Flash button on the IO plate to enable a new bios that will recognize 13 gen processors
Easiest motherboard install I’ve had. Like the new SSD port too, have to try that out. I wired it up turned on the PC and it booted right into windows – no errors no problems. Great board
Easily one of the best value B660 out there. Can handle a 12700 no sweat.
Even though it was way too overkill for my 12100f I couldn’t deny the $110 prime deals price. Installed it just a week ago and so far it’s been smooth sailing ever since. One tip I can give you though is to pre-install all the drivers (Especially the wifi/ethernet) on a usb stick from MSI’s website since I couldn’t use the ethernet without the drivers and had to download the drivers from my laptop and transfer to my PC.
Pros:
– Great heatsinks and VRMs, ready to handle all but the most high-end alder lake CPUs
– Nice and modern look of the motherboard, no gamery colors or unnecessary LEDs for a clean and professional look
– 4 Video output ports on the motherboard (2 HDMI 2 DP) for people who are into that stuff
– Worked with my 12100f with no BIOS updates or any settings needing configuration
– Great price (But not as good as when it was $110 in prime day)
– Takes DDR4 ram, this is a big pro for people on a budget since you don’t need expensive ram but a small con for people with a big budget since DDR5 has very little impact on performance from the benchmarks I’ve seen
– M-ATX size fits almost all cases out there
– Nice and solid M.2 heatsink on one of the slots that works great
Cons:
– No usb-c port on the back. Not necessarily a worry for me but can be a big con for some
– M-ATX size comes with a con of having a lot less of pretty much everything compared to an ATX board from PCI-E ports to fan ports
– The first board I received came with the cpu cover already off and multiple pins on the board bent. Though this is not a fault of the board or the manufacturer and I have received a brand new one after a quick chat with an Amazon employee and returning the faulty one.
Overall I’d recommend this board to anyone from people going for a cheap, low-end build (like me) to people going for a higher end build. Though one thing I heard is that the LGA 1700 socket has a detrimental problem of bending CPUs, the best 2 options I have seen is to either purchase a bending-correction frame from Thermaltake or installing 1mm washers under the socket to lessen the stress on the CPU. I’d consider this before installing your CPU as once you push that lever down your CPU might be bent irreversibly.
Had been using an old MSI laptop and decided it was time to upgrade, chose the b660m-a because of it’s price at the time (prime day) and hindsight I would have paid more for this motherboard, it worked with my i3-12100 right out of the box, was super easy to install everything, very quality motherboard with not much flex, overall MSI crushed it with this motherboard! (Could have done a better job personally on my cable managing)
I think this a board which is very easy to install and bios is easy to figure out and it automatically OC your RAM and remove power limits on CPU.
I think however, it is a bit too expensive yet. I bought it at this price however as it is the only brand that is performing solid in B660 area.
Excellent board for the money supports i5 12600k out of box no problem there is a 8 pin + 4 pin cpu power at top of board if your using a processor with out onboard graphics I think you only need to use 8 pin if you have a cpu with integrated gpu like the i5 12600k you need to use both the 8 pin and 4 pin or you may get random no signal for the hdmi/display port. Also there is some reports of memory problems at above 3600mhz ddr4 with the timings at 1t clock cycle in xmp mode. But this also might be more of a problem on none k intel chips due to the none k chip locking the voltage needed for the ram to overclock/ run at faster timings. My advice would be stick to 3200mhz ram on 2t cycle (default) and try to get a k unlocked cpu this should sort out any problems. Also I would not update bios unless you really need to as this has also resulted in display problems after bios update these things may get sorted in the future but this is a new socket 1700 so it will take time to sort out bugs this also has WiFi and Bluetooth i use the Bluetooth to connect my xbox series s controler connection is perfect in windows 11 hope this helps if so give a thumb up to let others know
I haven’t had any trouble with mine. If you are planning to use i5-i9 (12th or 13th gen) this is the cheapest option to really get full potential from your processor. It is loaded with heavy heatsinks and includes a decent M2 heatsink which seems to work (my M2 EVO Plus 970 runs cool with it). The bios works well enough with full control of fans and memory overclocking, and control over the time duration of the PL2 power up to 128 secs (beyond if you use robust cooling options). “Hardware unboxed” has an excellent comparative review of the VRMs and the operation temps of B660 boards and this is their leader by far, especially with the faster CPUs.
I give it 4* because the the full ATX version of this board gets some USB 3.2 2×2 ports (instead of 2×1 here) and there is no back panel USB C on this board — some cheaper boards have that, so cheaping out here from MSI. Plus, the full ATX board was cheaper than this one. Bummer.
I also don’t find the bios the most intuitive to use, and updating the bios is a bit finicky (need to format USB as FAT32 or it won’t work). And the memory banks are not color coded.
Overall, this is the best value in mATX if you want to use a fast 12th Gen with upgrade potential and without overclocking the CPU. I’m happy with it so far.
Entering bios flashing messes up something and leads to issue with no video output. Clearing CMOS helps.
Have some drivers issue with 12600k, makes sometimes everything stuck for 1 second. Hopefully it is drivers and I will figure it out.
