    This is a brilliant wifi adapter recently got new wifi installed and whilst good downstairs it would lose a bit of speed upstairs but with this adapter I am getting practically the same speeds upstairs as I was downstairs with brilliant stability.

    Thick walls in my house mean that the usual crummy USB WiFi adapters don’t work well – stability being a major issue.
    This thing picks up signals from a loooong way away, and once connected it’s solid as a rock.
    Very happy with it. Installation into Windows 10 also took no more than a couple of minutes, and has been equally trouble-free across 4 different PCs.

    Rarely cuts out but could be due to my wifi. Lots better than the last two Chinese ones I had definitely worth the extra money!

    Previously just had a basic wifi USB dongle (two different ones), weak signal and low speeds. With this I now get full signal strength and almost full speed from the same location as the other dongles.

    We have a Virgin Media Broadband that supports 500Mbps and we never could get these speeds on any of our laptop devices. My Macbook Pro would steam up to half of the advertised download speed (250Mbps) but my Dell Latitude could only ever manage 150Mbps on a good day.
    Steps in Netgear A7000 AC1900 WiFi USB adapter and right off the bat we get download speeds of 503.48 Mbps! and it has consistently held that speed.

    Completely blown away!

    I bought this expecting a bog standard extender, i was getting aj average of 20-30 Meg upload and download on my network with my latops built in Network card.

    After installing the drivers and connecting my speeds more than quintupled, absolutely chuffed with this product, i can see why this is pricier its totally worth it, considering my walls are quite thick its very
    strong

    The magentic clamps also allowed me to attach it out of the way. On a nearby a surface

    The screenshot speaks for itself

    Absolutely Smashed expectations

    Normally I hard wire my PC, but since I moved house it’s become a bit tricky so bought this instead. Been using it for a couple of months and so far so good. It gives me a solid signal and good speeds consistently. No regrets.

    Honestly not sure what’s with the negative reviews…

    I originally purchased my Nighthawk back in 2019 for a new gaming PC I’d purchased. I don’t have the option to run an ethernet cable so after a bit of research I decided to go with this one…and it did not disappoint! There are higher-end models out there that I’m sure are great but this one has never let me down, speed and connectivity are consistent and my pc is located literally as far away as you can get in this house from the router. I play and stream games without any issues whatsoever, WoW, PUBG, New World (not while it’s in Alpha of course!) etc.

    Speed tests are consistent and mirror the ethernet connection we can get here, I’m really happy with it and when my boyfriend moved in (due to covid) we got a second one for his PC! Believe me he’s A LOT picker than I am, at no point would he deal with any form of lag in his games, he’s had no issues at all and he’s been using this since March 2020. I would highly recommend and if anything was to go wrong with mine, I would purchase again!

    Bought this as I couldn’t get a wired connection to my router 3 rooms away in my new flat. Before I used this I had very bad signal that would sometimes drop and disconnect me, and always had very bad lag while gaming. After using this its like I’ve got a wired connection again, went from average of 100-200 ms latency in games to a stable constant 15-20ms. Would recommend, only issue I found is the cable that comes with the base is a bit too short and stiff.

    One of the best if not the best dongle I’ve purchased.

    I have a weak WiFi signal in my home and my PC is tucked away in the farthest corner of a room that struggles with connecting to the router.

    This produces a strong connection. I can game and stream without a glitch. Amazing.

    I had my ethernet cable running down the stairs to the router. I (the wife) got fed up of the mess so I did some research on the best wireless adapter and this kept coming up in the top 10. There are some really expensive ones and this was the most reasonable for performance. I was a little nervous though due to the 80 price tag but went for it.
    On arrival, (took 2 days), I followed the installation instructions, instead of my usual ‘I know what I’m doing’. I have no CD drive so went to the net gear support website to download the driver software. I usually just get the drivers for this kind of install, instead of the full bundle software utility. This time I played safe, due to some of the reviews of difficulties with it on windows 10, and installed the full package. (It’s not really needed as it’s just basically a network selection utility and performance monitor but it’s fairly light).
    I plugged in the adapter into the magnetic base and into the USB 3 port on my PC and BOOM! there it was. Connected to my WiFi and BOOM! Speeds just as fast as the ethernet. I’m only on a 200mbps connection from my provider, (so can’t vouch for the advertised max speed of it) and this adapter is giving me a WiFi connection of 217mbps. My PC is upstairs and in the room above the router, so it’s not really testing it I guess.
    Been running for 2 weeks with no issues at all, no drops in speed, no disconections.
    It is a big adapter but not as big as some. I guess if you want to pick up strong signals you need a big reciever.
    The magnetic base is great too, my desk has metal vertical plates on the side and it sticks there no problem. All out of sight. Hasn’t moved and the adapter hasn’t fallen out of the base, it’s got a good solid USB connector on it.

    Will update if I notice any issues but I don’t think I will.

    A fast dongle which is easy to set up. The WIFI speeds achieved were higher than my current dongle due to USB 3.0 standard. My current dongle speed is USB 2.0. At the moment there are no connection dropouts .You will need USB 3.0 connectivity to benefit the speed it can achieve otherwise buy a USB2.0 dongle.

    Easy to install. Just follow the instructions carefully. Plugged into a USB3 port this improved my Internet speed and, more importantly, stability. It looks expensive but is much cheaper than installing a signal booster set up. It’s a chunky device and you need to use the short extension cable provided. I set mine up on a small shelf I built to set about 10 inches above my desktop unit.

    Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersI bought this as my connection speed and ping were struggling a little to reach my upstairs office with my older 2.4/5ghz adapters. My first speed test with this adapter produced results identical to that when plugged in via ethernet – 360mpbs download and 37mbps upload. This is the maximum available with my ISP. This is achievable by connecting to the less congested second 5ghz band that this adapter enables. The adapter is much, much bulkier than it’s predecessors and as a result it comes with a magnetic cradle. This does take up a tiny bit of desk space but is preferable over sticking out of the machine. If not using a cradle, this adapter would block other USB ports because it’s so big.

    I purchased an Amazon Warehouse version of this (i.e. customer returns) so the adapter looks to have been in use for quite a while as the hinges of the adapter were coated in a thick layer of dust which I had to clean off. The original box was also not included with the Amazon Warehouse version.

    Important to note that the device is not plug-any-play. To enable the device, I had to go to Netgear’s website and download the driver software. This enabled the device but also required installation of Netgear’s very dated looking software. The driver software was relatively easy to download and install compared to other products.

    This is an expensive adapter but initial tests show that it’s worth that extra expense.

    I’m going to sum this WiFi adapter up in 3 sentences :
    1) the WiFi signal is the best I have ever seen, it will stay connected and will ensure a smooth experience!
    2) it is as easy to set up as plug in and go. No need to download any drivers.
    3) as the title says, perfect for gaming.
    I tried several other adapters, but nothing quite compares to this purchase.
    10/10

    I got this for my 10 year old laptop as its built in WiFi card is slow I have a 300 Mbps fibre to the home line and I am getting 210 Mbps now with this so I am very happy better than the 10 Mbps with my built in card

    Probably among the most expensive options, but the quality is superb, even at relatively high distance from the access point. I guess I have already paid that price previously, having bought 2-3 cheaper ones that do not come any close to the performance of this WiFi adapter.

    This wifi adaptor solved a real problem for me. I had a desktop machine on which any wifi adaptor I tried had drop outs and the wifi adaptor would switch from my wifi to Bt-Fon. I plugged in this adaptor and the problem disappeared.

    Note: I got this as a Black Friday offer at 49.

    Previously I was using a TP-Link HomePlug 2000 system and it was working very well with my 200mbs Broadband but, as soon as I started using the Netgear A7000 connected as 5GHz AC mode, I maxout my broadband speed (about 197mbs Homplug, 214mbs A7000) inside the house and about 3 walls away from the router.

    To be honest, from the performance I would pay the original price for it.

    This is like a Father Christmas present! I have this awful Internet connection and watch a blurred and slow , at times stopped version of Outlander 3 on my computer, and this little thing has performed miracles! Now I can watch videos — and they are normal, if people see what I mean by that. Thanls Amazon for the deal.

    Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersLet me first start by saying that originally I used a Netgear WG111 Adapter which worked exceptionally well, but didn’t have very good speeds, nor 5GHz compatibility. So I moved to this device in the hope that it would be just as good, as the routers supplied with our Virgin Media broadband have always been Netgear.

    Worked very well to start with, strong signal and maxing out at a speed of 160Mbps download and 12Mbps upload. However, after a few months it started to give me ping lag which is very annoying for gaming as it would fluctuate from a steady <15ms ping to around 300ms or higher then go back to normal, but the fluctuations would be long enough for me to be kicked from games such as Battlefield 4 due to the high ping. A complete nightmare for gamers.

    EDIT 2016-2017: Since reviewing this wifi adapter the problem has corrected itself. Updating to the latest drivers after they were released fixed my issues. The adapter is capable of speeds upto ~162Mbps, which in the 3 years since my review is now slower than the full 200Mbps which Virgin Media provide and I can get on my phone, but it's still a very reliable adapter and works well for gaming.

    The Linksys EA3000 I had intended to replace this with was actually much worse to the point where it refused to stay connected and I had to return it. For something reliable, you're better off with one of these!

    Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis wireless adapter is great for anyone who has broadband speeds of up to 100mb+ and is unable to connect via Ethernet.

    Its dual band wireless N technology means it can connect at a maximum of 300mbps + 300mbps meaning even with a weak connection due to walls or other obstacles you’re highly likely to achieve your internet connections maximum download/upload speed.

    I bought this as I needed a strong connection so I could take full advantage of upgrading my internet to 60mb fibre optic and so far it’s working great.

    The only downside is the usb extension lead this comes with is only around 60cm long which wasn’t enough to put it to any actual use, only if your desktop is very close to your screen would you be able to take advantage of the extension lead and the supplied attachment velcro which is why this receives 4 stars. Luckily I had a much longer usb extension lead with my previous belkin adapter that I am able to use.

    This adapter comes with:

    – USB extension lead (allowing you to place it where it will receive the best connection)
    – Driver installation CD
    – Plastic holder & sticky back velcro (allowing you to attach the adapter to a vertical surface)

    Overall however this is a great piece of technology and is more than enough for any normal internet speeds making it future proof.

    The first thing that struck me when I looked at the packing list that comes with this product was that it is all there. This USB network adapter comes complete with 1m extension cable, a mounting caddy and even a square of hook and eye fastener with which to secure the mounting caddy to a suitable surface as well as the usual PC installation CD.

    A small but important point for me is that this device has its MAC number clearly displayed on one side. This is a vital piece of information if you use an access list with your router. (This is a security setting that allows only the listed devices to connect to the router). If you use this setting then before doing anything else you will need to add the MAC number of your new Netgear adapter to your ‘allowed’ list.

    The rest of the set up with my Panasonic TV was trivial. The only issue that I encountered was that the blue light on this adapter is small and I found it not all that easy to see. However, it still only took me a couple of minutes to get the connection with my router up and running. It then took another couple of minutes to finish setting up the TV, which had detected the device the moment that I plugged it in.

    I am really very impressed by this network adapter. Setting it up and getting it working was far easier than I had expected. And I had everything that I might need to hand because it is all there in the one box.

    Post Script:
    I had an issue with the Wi-Fi link to my Panasonic television when everything froze. This appears to be a problem with the firmware in the TV. The fix is simple:
    1. Connect to your router automatically;
    2. Enter the edit connection settings and turn DHCP off;
    3. Set the last number in the IP address for yout TV to a high number such as 200;
    4. Set the DNS address to that of a free DNS server eg Google on 8.8.8.8);
    5. Press the ‘Return’ button on your remote to save your new settings.

    Do not change the gateway address. This is the address where your TV needs to go to connect to the Internet.

    These settings minimise the work that the TV has to do to connect to the Internet. Test them by viewing a reliable site such as the BBC iPlayer. If they don’t work you can always revert to the automatic settings.
