What a great electric toothbrush! The app that accompanies this product really helps you to ‘up’ your game when it comes to improved oral hygiene

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI’ve been using oral-b electric toothbrushes for a while and they’ve always done a great job. I recently bought this one as my previous one would die after 2 days, and in just a month I’ve seen the battery life degrade significantly.

On the first use it lasted around 12 days, it’s now down to 6 or 7. I brush my teeth 3 times a day for 2 minutes so it’s not like I’m overusing it. If you can get it discounted go for it, however if you’re not concerned about the Bluetooth connectivity and brushing modes you may as well go for an older (and cheaper) version to save some money.

Good toothbrush but can’t understand why I should want to use the oral b app on my mobile phone to time myself cleaning my teeth ??

Golden Review Award: 636 From Our UsersThis is a great toothbrush with a long battery life. But note – the 3 different styles/colours you can buy are in fact 3 different models. The 4000N Cross Action (white) toothbrush has a Lithium-ion battery, which lasts for a couple of weeks before it needs charging. The other two ‘styles’ (pink and blue colours) have Ni-MH batteries which do not last anywhere near as long. That’s why some people are leaving reviews saying the battery is great and others are leaving reviews saying the battery is terrible!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersLove this toothbrush – it was my first electric brush in years but dentist recommended an Oral B and said it had to be over 2000 to be able to do any good at all… yes it does come with the toothbrush training app – but to be honest I wouldn’t buy the brush just for that because its crap! – Doesn’t give you any useful info and makes assumptions instead of really sensing what the brush is actually doing!

The brush came with a bit of a charge but still, I stuck it on the charger overnight so it was fully charged before I used it. – After doing that the first time I was able to use it for a month before the battery flashed for a re-charge!!

As with any electrical gadget don’t leave it on the charger between charges because if a battery gets overcharged it does wear the battery down and eventually the battery wears out before it should, because it no longer holds a full charge – so charge and remove it from the charger till the light flashes for it to be recharged. (Not sure if you would need to get a new brush or could just change the battery – either way is expensive).

    So:

Pros: Lasts a long time if charged properly and not overcharged

Very powerful (charge seems to identify when the battery is due to run down – so the light flashes when the brushing- but unless you
saw that flash you wouldn’t know it was starting to lower its strength because it feels just as powerful as a new charge)

It has 3 different settings so you can put it on the first setting and go all around your month upper and lower on the inside of the teeth
as well as the outside – daily clean, sensitive clean and whitening – I use all three settings and dentist seems happy with that.

A test of really clean teeth is if you run your finger across your teeth after cleaning it should squeak – and after you brush your teeth
just once with this brush a light touch will give you a squeak!

Since using I’ve noticed the light brown tea stains on my teeth have practically all gone (something I could never get rid off with my
    normal manual toothbrush)

I do like the appearance – and as a newbie once again to electric brushing…I kind of like it – its fun!

    Cons: App is crap

The charger doesn’t take UK Plug (it only has 2 prongs so you either need a special bathroom socket that people use for shavers, or
    you need a converter plug)

For the price it should really come with a cover or case (but still you can buy one of these separately quite cheaply). All I can say is Thank God for Black Fridays!! (which came only a couple of months after my dentist told me to get one) 🙂

This is a great tooth brush, bought to replace an old Oral B electric tooth brush,
This brush does leave my teeth feeling cleaner than the old one did, it is easy to use, although the instructions are not clear and do not fully explain the functions or how to get the different functions to work, I have worked out that the functions are accessed by pressing the on button multiple times, but I cant tell you how many presses each function is apart from the first press which is the standard tooth brushing mode,
the other functions are gum clean and sensitive but the instructions do not tell you which function is which when you press the button. for that reason I have called this a four star item.
The brush clearly lets you know when you have done a quarter of the time by the vibration and there is a red light on the top of the brush holder to let you know if you press too hard while brushing.
It comes with the base unit for charging, two brush heads and a brush head holder that holds 4 heads and easily clips onto the charging unit, again you have to figure out how this fits together yourself because the instructions are so poor.
All in all though this does what is is supposed to and leaves your teeth feeling clean.
I am not sure how helpful the bluetooth function is, you have to download an app for your phone to use this function, as far as I can see this just tells you if you have done a full 3 minute brush or not, may be useful for monitoring your childrens tooth brushing though.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI am extremely satisfied with this purchase. The quality of the kit justifies its greater price than other cheaper electric toothbrushes. I purchased this brush after unfortunately my previous brush that I had owned for 6 years plus stopped being able to charge. My previous brush was a inferior model but still Oral B so from personal experience I knew this brand to be reliable and robust. This new brush feels very robust as well. It somehow feels stronger whilst being lighter.

When I ordered this brush I wasn’t sure what use I would have for 3 modes, having survived with only 1 for 6 plus years. I found good reason to use all 3 however. I brush on the first setting for the normal 2 minutes. On this setting the brush head rotates quickly and at a consistent rate. Then I make my teeth shine, after rinsing my brush with water, by finishing the clean on the teeth whitening mode. On this mode the head rotation rate varies periodically (about once per second) between fast and slow. The other mode, which is actually the second when you cycle through the modes by pressing the power button on the brush, is the same as the first only the head has a slower rate of rotation. I found a use for this when I was having a lot of tooth pain due to a wisdom tooth coming through. Carefully I was able to brush the adjacent molar on this setting whereas the increased speed of the first mode caused too much pain. I think the second mode is appropriately called something like sensitive brushing..

Other things to mention. It came one day early. The packing was neat and sturdy. The charging dock takes up less space than my previous one so was another plus. The only downside was that I found the case for replacement heads to be cumbersome and unnecessary so I discarded it. Nevertheless you would be a headcase to not purchase this because of the head case.

The toothbrush works very well. I’m guilty of too much pressure as I brush, and the sensor and light on the Oral-B Smart Series 4000 prevent that from happening. The timer helps keep my brushing in check as well, since I tend to brush for too long. As for cleaning, the Cross Action toothbrush head does really well cleaning my tooth surfaces, but doesn’t get the areas between my teeth. In comparison, my usual toothbrush, the Colgate Slimsoft toothbrush, is great at getting food and plaque out from between my teeth. I’d still floss after brushing either way, but I find that I have less stuff to remove when I use my usual toothbrush than when I use the Oral-B Cross Action toothbrush head. Maybe a different brush head would be better for me.

The toothbrush’s battery life seems fair. It’s been a couple of days since I plugged mine, and it’s still going strong. I would take this toothbrush on a weekend holiday with me. However, I feel that the manufacturer could have included at least a travel case for the toothbrush heads, if not the full case like the Oral-B 5000 has.

The app works well for my purposes. I like that it keeps track of how long I brush each time, and I like that it has recommended brushing routines, or “journeys”.

The outer packaging is well designed, with the kit’s features prominently displayed so it’s easy to know whether the Oral-B Smart Series 4000 is for you. However, the packaging insert is polystyrene. Some may not feel that this makes a difference, but I come from a country where plastic or metal recycling isn’t even available so we have whole villages living among the rubbish on top of landfills. I feel that the manufacturer could have done better and used a cardboard insert instead. At least cardboard can be recycled in many countries.

The toothbrush charger has a European plug with two round pins. It doesn’t make a difference to me as I already have UK plug adapters on hand, but others may want to consider this before purchase.

I received a free toothbrush set to review. However, that has not affected my review, and these opinions are all my own.

    Great, but could be bette

Golden Review Award: 47 From Our UsersI have not had an electronic toothbrush in ages and man have they changed! Not only do my teeth feel cleaner, but I have taken a whole new (and more considered) approach to brushing. For me, the pressure sensor and app put this brush above others I have used. I now know that i used to brush way hard and am improving my technique each day that i use it. I would really recommend this brush. Watch my review video for a more in depth look at this product or here are some bulletpoints as to why i think its brilliant:

: 3 different modes : daily clean, sensitive and gum care (i use the main mode followed by the massage mode – very therapeutic)
: The brush head gets right in there and along with the app I now clean tooth by tooth in a more considered way
: Pressure sensor – revolutionary for me.
: App – I love this app. First you can choose your journey (teeth whitening plaque fighting, fresh breath etc) which gives you a personalised recommendation of how to brush and how long for. When you brush, you have a timer with tips, news and photos that appear along the botom – this is ace if like me you get bored quickly. i found it distracted me while brushing, making the session a better and more thorough one! A bit like a fitness tracker, you can check your progress and get achievement badges (come on, admit it, it all makes us want to do things better and for longer) As well as this, you can pair up with your local dentist for professional advise (i’ve not done this yet but what a great feature)
: You have a little case to store brush heads, oh and the charge is really good – around about a week use from one charge which means i can take it on holidays without bringing everything with me

all in all a great product and im off to try the other brush heads too 🙂

Amazing features for a super clean feel

The Smart Series 4000 performs brilliantly as a toothbrush, which is obviously the main objective! My teeth feel cleaner than they have in years just from using this for 2 weeks, I particularly love the pressure sensor telling me off with the red flashing lights if I’m brushing too hard! The power socket is a 2 pin (electric razor style) so if have a shaving socket in your bathroom you can leave it on the stand charging at all times and it shuts off when full so won’t overcharge. However if you don’t have a shaving socket and have to charge elsewhere in the house using an adaptor, it’s a bit of a hassle considering the amount of power you get per charge. The instruction booklet proudly tells you that you’ll get 7 days of brushing out of a full charge – 2×2 min brushes for 7 days – which equals 28 mins brushing time. To charge from flat takes 14 hours! I started getting a low battery notification after around 4 days and charged back to full, I haven’t yet managed to run it flat although I have noticed the brush action is no longer as strong as after the full charge.

However the main reason to buy this toothbrush instead of any previous Oral-B electric toothbrush is obviously the bluetooth connection. On this aspect, there could be a few improvements – some of which that could be applied with an update to the app rather than needing to improve the brush! The “achievements” available are a bit poor, and some are odd – encouraging people to brush their teeth at random times just to achieve a badge in the app! 7 days of brushing between 3.30am and 6am, Noon and 3pm, or midnight to 3am – but no badge earned for brushing 6am-9am or 9pm-midnight which is surely more normal! You are also told that the handle stores brushing data for up to 30 days if you don’t have your phone in the bathroom at all times – I find here that connectivity is not always great when trying to connect to sync previous sessions, and after doing this I have also found some days saying I have brushed 3 or 4 times because they have been logged twice – once at the time of brushing and then again a few days later when I synced manually to fill in gaps. They don’t always seem to be for the same length of session either, so the best way is definitely to have it connected while you brush if possible!

None of these little niggles are major however and the brush itself is does everything you could want it to!
