if it had hip hugger pockets and small support it would be a perfect day pack (Hiking AND everyday stuff-laptop excluded)
Zaino perfetto per camminate di uno/due giorni, molto compatto e capiente rispetto a marche della concorrenza. Leggerissimo presenta tutti i comfort per poter godersi lunghe camminate. Super consigliato.
Great pack, been up many peaks in UK sturdy as can be and does and for a bag of it’s size has impressive features. Great in all weather conditions.
Great bit of kit! I own an Osprey Xenith 88L for wild camping and the Hikelite 26L for day walks. The Hikelite can easily take a full 3L bladder, a big winter jacket, a gore tex jacket, a pair of gore tex trousers, MSR 1L pot, Sigg 0.5L bottle and sandwiches/snacks etc. Another top piece of kit from Osprey. Under 50 with the discount. Massive bargain!
The best thing I can say about this rucksack is you forget you are wearing it
Really comfortable & the rain cover keeps everything dry even in the worst downpours
It’s very light and comfortable. Made of good quality materials.
I really like this backpack. it has a lot of storage options. the main compartment is large enough for 2 64oz bottles, and I can fit other stuff in the outer large pocket. The air mesh system keeps my back way more cooler than other backpacks, which is the main reason I bought this.
Plus, the lower straps can be removed if not needed without a bulky lower pad.
the only con I have is that the smaller upper compartment is a bit small, and isn’t secured to the panel – it’s like a pocket in a pair of jeans, which is a very minor inconvenience.
Over all – one of my best hiking purchases!
I first ordered the Deuter on the left side of the included picture, but as soon as I got it decided to return it. The straps and adjustments didn’t fit, and honestly I couldn’t see them fitting on anyone, but worse for me was that the foam ventilated back not only didn’t work but seemed to make the back hotter by trapping and insulating the hot air. I’ve seen this type of design in many manufacturers, including Osprey, and having tried it now, NOT a fan. The effect was immediately and quite noticeably bad. The foam is an insulator and the hot air actually gets trapped in the pockets between the foam ribbing, and actually makes the back hotter, exactly opposite the intended design. I’d prefer two lines of cheap webbed foam that cheaper backpacks have over this foamed vent design. But back to my point, as soon as I tried the Osprey suspension, wow, what a difference. First, the pack actually fits, load bearing adjustment on top actually does something too, unlike on the Deuter, instead of just bending the pack around my shoulder like the Deuter, the solid back actually does leverage weight, but best of all, my back feels cool! My personality, I usually like to support lesser, second place companies and buy their products to support them over market leaders, but, here, Osprey’s suspension back is so much superior, nope, I will be keeping the Osprey and returning the Deuter. Now, I can understand why Osprey is so much more popular. Sigh. Not trying to pick on Deuter, I’m over it, and will return, and the bag has many functions and features that the Osprey seems to lack, and I’m sure the bag will be better for some other people, but, in real world, I felt I would use the functions on the Deuter less and they wouldn’t necessarily work as advertised. The Osprey is much more streamlined(though cynically, could be interpreted as euphemism I suppose for cheap and lacking in features but yeah), and besides the single thin inner bag and hydration compartment has next to no other features or compartments in the bag. As other commenters have said, it is somewhat like a glorified duffel or something. But I like it. I’ll just use separate waterproof bags inside to compartmentalize anyways. I also managed to get the bag at a significant discount, cheaper than the Deuter which didn’t come with a rain cover. The Osprey does have a integrated rain cover(bottom zipper compartment) and on the Deuter it’s something like $20-$40 for a non-purpose built Deuter cover which likely wouldn’t fit well. I suppose for people using these bags for commutes or travel may not care about the rain cover but if used in hiking, I think rain covers are extremely important, since all bag fabrics WILL wet out without them and with enough water; I personally don’t want wet undies. One thing, I noticed at first, the Osprey which is supposed to be 26 Liters seemed at first noticeably smaller than the Deuter which is supposed to be 25L. But I quickly realized, this just wasn’t the case. When you extend/loosen the compression straps on the Osprey, it gets far roomier, as in thicker. The Deuter looked taller and wider by about an inch but is much thinner in profile. I see the volume would be near equivalent, so I disagree with the commenters saying the inside doesn’t seem like 26L. Lastly, the included rain cover works well, though the thin bungee cord that straps the cover around the bag is very weak seeming and I fear wouldn’t last unless handled carefully. I imagine if it starts to rain, last thing you’re apt to do is handle the cover carefully. But it works and is fluorescent lime green for anyone curious.
As for cons: I do concur with the other reviewers about that strange inside out zipper holding the trampoline back in place. I have zero idea what or why that zipper is there, honestly. I remember vaguely reading that the bag back could be collapsed or something and maybe it’s for that, but the zipper tab can’t be accessed at all since it’s between the trampoline back and the frame and the space between those is like a centimeter. There’s no way anyones’ fingers could reach the zipper handle. It’s very strange, and likely I think it’s a design or manufacturing flaw/defect which Osprey didn’t bother to fix. I personally won’t be messing with the zipper, however, and don’t care. I seriously don’t see what the intended function of that zipper is at all. Also, the other commenters saying the inner valuables bag looks suspect/chintzy, I have to agree; the top inner bag is extremely thin and weak looking, and I can’t imagine would last. Lastly, I personally am not a fan of how the shove it pocket is reliant on the top compression straps. I feel the compression straps are for compressing the bag, and the shove it pocket should have it’s own compression method to hold loose stuff like helmets, jackets in place irrespective of bag compression. Having one strap for both purposes doesn’t streamline but makes both functions lesser imo. But not a big deal. Final side note, I wish, the bag and more bags had carabiner hook tabs, so can conceivably attach more stuff, but oh well. The Deuter does have this and was appreciated.
Overall, I’m 100% satisfied over this bag, however, and my minor complaints are second to how well the ergonomics and suspension back works on this bag, and unlike some of the more critical comments, couldn’t find a single uncomfortable rub point or friction point when wearing on my body. I’m a short stocky guy, however, and maybe not a typical body. Nonetheless, I found this pack immediately and immensely comfortable on my back. Whatever else cons this bag may have gets trumped in my opinion by the awesome comfort and ergonomics. Whether my socks and shirts have different compartments inside the bag to me is secondary to being able to walk miles and miles in humid or cold weather to get to the campsite or back to my car comfortably. The chest and waist strap also fit much better on the Osprey. Thumbs up.
This is very light so just right for a summer backpack . The ventilation on those hot summer days means no sweaty backs. A bladder pocket is provided but the access hole for the nipple is a tight squeeze. There is a rain cover or those summer showers. Enough room for a camera dlsr , light water proof sandwiches and flask. Sorry i need my cup of tea.
Great quality product well thought out and designed. The only negative I found was that if you store a water bottle in the side pocket they continually fall out when you have to tie laces etc but I fixed this initially by attaching a carabiner to to the bag and top of bottle. I have since purchased the osprey bladder so this is no longer an issue for me but felt best to highlight it. Good amount of storage within and I generally recomended osprey products overall tbh
The best things are the airflow around your back and the shoulder straps, the worst are the price and lack of a pocket on the removable waist strap. (Do not remove it though as it is a good stability strap)
I got mine less than half price in a sale in a UK shop. It is not worth the 80 RRP.
I had not read the reviews when I got it, I have now and I think some of the poor reviews misunderstand how to use it.
This is really a water bladder daypack you have space for a 3 litre bladder so there is no need to use the side pockets for water bottles which do fall out. I use one for my warm jacket and the other for a waterproof coat and trousers they are secure in those pockets. Food goes in the main compartment ,if you do not need to put 3 litres of water in the bladder it means you have more space in the main compartment. I always put 3 litres in it and have enough space for my food.
The rain cover can be taken out of its pocket and sat on, or left at home if its not going to rain giving you an extra pocket. I put my multitool in this pocket as it makes the top one sag with its weight. The large stuff pocket I use to put wet gear in loosely folded with half of it hanging out to help it dry, apart from that I see no other use for it on a day hike. The other little pocket is good for light things, keys sunglasses and tissues. If you use it like that it is great, looses one star for the RRP.
I can only echo what nearly every reviewer has said; this pack is light and incredibly comfortable. Most of the time I forget I’m wearing it. I have the green and the colour is really gorgeous. HOWEVER, the continuously irritating flaw is the design of the side water bottle holders. They really don’t work, despite what Osprey say. As soon as I bend over, the water bottle comes flying out. I’ve clipped it to the side, which keeps it attached to the bag but doesn’t stop it falling out of the pocket. I do have a water pouch but can’t be bothered with it for shorter day hikes. Other than this, I love it.
I took this backpack hiking for 4 days. It’s big enough to carry changes of clothes / overnight kit and water while remaining comfortable to carry. I was worried carrying a pack would make my back ache but this fitted brilliantly. Love the side pockets for easy access to maps etc. Very easy to use with the Osprey hydration pack. I personally like the fact this doesn’t have a bulky waist strap as I never use them. It’s so good I’ve now ordered the same bag in 18L for day excursions.
For the engineering alone this bag is worth the price! Great structure & really well thought out with lots of options of how you can use it – the outside pocket at the back is really useful for holding a jacket securely & the top pocket is great for keys, purse or anything you need to grab quickly. The inside pocket at the back is quite tight so held my 2L water bladder upright.
Used this for hiking & climbing as well as just a carry on bag for the plane. Its very light and the back is good if you are going to a warmer climate or doing any intensive exercise as it lets air though. 26L was easily enough for holding hiking gear and food for a long day. Only might be a bit small if you had puffy snow gear, plenty of room for waterproofs.
Rides on your back like a hitch hiker with no weight shoulder straps are thick, wide and comfortable with a really strong “as one” construction at the top too! So load it as much as you dare, this little pack will take it… Chest and hip strap weld this pack to your body when super loaded in weight, the internal frame is curved and shaped to your back also with spring loaded mess inner backing, to help your back breath and not sweat, those days when it rains, stops, rains again etc it has a option even for that with large outer grab pocket on face of pack, where you can chuck your rain jacket and take it back out, without getting the inner contents of your pack wet… it has its own rain jacket too In the base it literally is the best thought out pack on the market for day hikes, or for everyday use as a commuter pack… i bought the green one, it looks ace and blends into the countryside with easy.
I LOVE this bag. Somehow it seems lighter when you put it on even if it’s heavy when you pick it up! So very comfy to wear and a nice fit for my back (female 5’6″ with a bad back!)
The breathable air flow straps are also a revelation! There are two points of adjustment on the straps as well as a chest strap and a waist/hips strap.
Rainproof cover is great, kept my bag and contents dry in heavy rain . It’s tethered but also removable for drying out. It’s also a bright contrast colour – my rucksack is oyster and not very visible when I’m cycling so I sometimes put the cover on just for extra high vis.
Bag is also secure as you can thread the zip loops by threading the other straps through them and clipping in place. I also use a carabiner to prevent the zips slipping open or someone poking their way in my bag!
The small front pocket is shallow but I can get a purse, phone, keys, sweets, pen and small notebook in there ! There is a handy keyring clip too.
The large pocket keeps giving and the elasticated pouch which is more for a hydration system is a useful section divider and fits my 11inch tablet in its thick padded case.
The front ‘pouch’ is handy- great for a coat, however be cautious with small solid items as if I bend over wearing it (eg when unlocking my bike) those items tend to slide out and hit me in the back of the head before dropping on the floor!
Others mention the short elasticated side pockets. They’re probably best for a 500ml bottle and my bottle does slide out of them fairly often if I bend down. Generally though I try to tether bottles as I’ve not found a rucksack that does hold a bottle without it sliding out.
I will definitely buy this rucksack again in future. It’s a great day bag for commuting and has plenty of room for change of clothes, cosmetic bag, small laptop, lunch box, and a few other bits and pieces. It’s also deceptively long without looking or feeling enormous!
Excellent piece of kit. Just the right size for a quick walk on the falls.
You can get cheaper products but I doubt they will deliver the quality and functionality of this backpack.
Excellent product. Hiked snowdon with all kit and water. Didn’t feel like I was carrying anything.
Nice and light, no more sweaty back due to the air gap, easy to access as well. This one is a spare for one I bought previously.
There’s a bag for everyone and this last few months, this has been mine! I’ve used it for hiking light, over night stays and even tracking camera gear up a mountain. It’s light weight, comfortable and pretty durable. Fantastic for a day bag too, as long as you don’t load it to heavy as the strengthening wings at the lower back will rub a little on your lower back and it starts to hurt after a couple of days of it as I learnt in Venice. It was humid warm but raining at times and we walked about 25k steps a day.
You can stuff this bag with a lot, just not a crazy heavy amount in those conditions.
Hope this is helpful.
Great for:
-day hikes with coat, food, camera & other accessories
-over nighting
-city breaks for someone who can travel light, minimal tech.
I use the Osprey Hikelite 26 as a day pack. It has a good internal frame and breathable back. Bottle holders on each side. One big zip compartment and one little zip compartment. Has 4 straps on the sides to compress it when there’s not much in it. The water bladder compartment can be used to organise documents/maps/papers. Very lightweight (735 Grams). Love it. It’s a bit old now, so you can normally pick it up on discount.
Very comfortable. Very useful. Took it with me on a few day trips
Absolutely perfect for the job, very comfortable. Wore fully packed as hand luggage on flight and didn’t really know it was there.
Used for shopping and short hikes, always comfortable and leaves the back reasonably dry in warm weathe
Very lightweight and carried lots of clothes and fuel for an overnight hike (65 miles) Managed to attach hiking poles too. Good back support too.
