It’s a little bulky, but it does an excellent job. Very close shave, and you don’t have to keep shaving the same area over and over, and it’s the quietest shaver I’ve ever owned.
Ok it’s an expensive shaver but worth the extra outlay. It’s dead easy to clean; just push a button and the top pops up and the blades return to their original posts. No problems so far.
I was surprised there wan’t a cover for the head but the case is very sturdy. No room for the charging cable though so I have to store that where I can remember easily.
Confortable shave, very flexible cutters that follow face contoures well, easy to clean and charge, battery capacity a bit limited but shaver is light compared with former model.
Very personal choice but I like it.
without a doubt the best shaver ive purchased, n ive been through a fair few but deffo worth the price even thou its meant to be 200.00 its absolutely amazing 5 stars all round.
got this one to replace my last philips shaver that lasted 30years, very pleased with this one, hope it lasts as well as the previous one, gives a nice shave so that’s a good sta
With foil shavers there are at least two good brands to choose from. Not so with rotary shavers where Philips out-perform all others hands down. Don’t be fooled by the marketing blurb or reviews of lesser brands because I’ve yet to find one that comes close to a Philips. In terms of precision rotary blade technology, Philips leads the pack.
This 5000 series is definitely a step up from the 1000/3000 series that I’ve had previously. I get a smooth and comfortable shave, comparable in closeness to a decent foil shaver – all for an offer price of less than 80! All in all, very pleased.
For context, this review has been written after about a week of use.
I tend to get razor rash and ingrown hairs super easily, This is the first electric shaver I’ve used, and it has drastically reduced the severity of the rashes I get, Which is super great for me, and I think it works out to being cheaper than buying fusion 5 blades over the long term.
Of course this doesn’t give as close shave as a disposable razor, However this is pretty normal for electric shavers, and is thus unsurprising, but it does get pretty close assuming it’s clean and you use it wet. It also is really great for body hair.
Which brings me a to a second point if it encounters large hair it tends to build up hair underneath the blades that doesn’t get washed out, this means you may need to dismantle the rotor every so often if you use it in a bath where hair has been shed, or because you haven’t shaved in a while. But it’s not incredibly difficult to do.
It’s likely that I’ll still hold on to and use my fusion 5 for certain areas that the rotors don’t exactly catch well as the head of the shaver is quite large, but this is really good and has really reduced the amount of rashes I get, and likely the amount I’ll end up spending on razor blades. So overall it really fulfils my use case but YMMV.
Not as good as the old ones. Light weight and cheaply made.
I was supplied with some blue liquid but don’t know what to do with it.
This is the best razor I’ve owned. Excellent smooth shave…even if you have a few days stubble. The battery is great and lasts a v long time without charging. Overall I am delighted with this and would highly recommend.
Nothing to dislike with this shaver. I have moved from a wet shave using a blade to dry shaving using the Philips, so far so good. I changed over for the convenience of not needing to lather up and avoiding the nicks and cuts that can come with blade shaving (not all the time, but occasionally) – and this shaver ticks both boxes for me. The shave is cleaner than I expected, and the shaver is very easy to clean. I haven’t figured out how to attach the attachment but haven’t needed it yet and will figure it out. I’ve used it around half a dozen times and have not needed to recharge it, so that’s also good for me. I got this is the Black Friday deal and have not seen it so cheap since but like it enough that I would pay more. Good shaver!
Battery life good ,not much else to mention ,pleased purchased at reduced price ,would not have been happy paying the full price. I thought item model philishave 5000 would have given a closer cleaner shave but not unfortunately.
My husband was pleasantly surprised and loved it!
We know Phillips is an excellent brand. He had the last one for a good few years!
It appeared that some items were missing but it was the manufacturer adapting the other models to the one main box.
I bought this as a replacement for my old Philips 5400 Series. I use the shaver to shave my head. The dry shave is great & pretty quick. I usually use it in the shower with shaving foam. All in all it is a good shaver for my needs.
I had a body groom adapter with my old 5 series, it works with this new shaver as well.
Why 4 stars?
As indicated in other reviews, it comes with a 3-pin UK plug. Why? Why on earth it doesn’t come with 2 pin plug? In bathrooms, there is only 2 pin plugs for shavers.
Another downside is, it doesn’t come with a plastic shaving head travel protector. My previous 5 series had it.
Works well without irritation when used dry or with gel. Good close shave, much better than my old shave
It just works..effortlessly..nice close shave, shaving is no longer a chore.
Very pleased…. great shave, much better than the Braun i have been using for years. Battery life is very good indeed. My only gripe would be the trimmer, it doesn’t seen to cu
Needed to replace old razor as the battery had reached end of life.
This razor looks impressive but for me seems slightly less effective than the older model it replaced but good enough if you get it at a reduced price.
ot a bad shaver for philips only one bad thing blades not as sharp as they said in the advert ,but ive used it for a week now and still not had to re charge it yet .
My partner is happy! Bought it as a present for him to replace his old shaving machine. He is very pleased and happy
My previous Philips rotary worked well and then, at the recommended 2 years, i bought a replacement head. What i got was just the blades and foil parts and not a whole new head assembly (yes, it does tell you somewhere in the text but the photo deceives you). This was not as good as the original and one cutter repeatedly kept falling out – so, do you fix it and make yourself late for work or go to work half-shaved?
The new 5000 series I have bought shaves very well. It is the one without the pop-up trimmer but has a separate trimming attachment. I will not be buying a “replacement head” for it in two years’ time – I’d like to be green but they make it so hard for us.
It’s ok if you just want to take the ruff off or just want to keep it your car for a quick shave. It’s nowhere near as close a shave as a normal razor and i really have to press it hard into the skin to completely get all the ruff hair off but i only bought for when I am away or run out of normal razors. very good battery life and not too hard to clean.
Really good item that comes with a sideburn trim… Very quiet… Came with protective case and cleaner. Battery does not last as long as my previous philips shaver but charges very quick which is great… Overall woukd highly recommend
This is a good shaver but I still find I have to use a wet razor every couple of days to get a really close shave.
This shaver is powerful, with advance technology to safe and comfort of your skin. It’s easy to use and easy to clean, can be use wet and dry, The flexible heads turns 360 to follow facial outline for the effortless shaving. They add a pop-up trimmer to even up your mustache and sideburns to complete the shaving experience. removable head, lightweight and cordless. shaves very finely.
Very gentle on your skin, however, it does miss the odd longer hair.
First the positives – this razor is ergonomic in design, the charge lasts for ages, such as 2-3 weeks, it has a cap, it’s a doddle to clean and you can lock it when putting it inside your toiletry bag if travelling.
I do like rotary head shavers and this moves with the contours of your jaw line and face which helps to get a close cut. However, it takes about twice as long as my previous razor to get the fine under chin/neck hairs. So if you give have time, you’ll get a decent shave out of it. We are talking 3-4 mins rather than 1-2 mins with my old razor. It does however leave you with a smooth face. It also has a pop up razor for trimming sideburns for example. Overall recommended but not quite 5 stars from me.
Philips has a very good battery life. batter charged for a good time with display bars showing available charge remaining. its rather lightweight. The design looks great too. It comes with pop-up trimmer rather than a separate attachment. It shaves nicely and quickly. great close shave with head designed to move with the face and gentle on skin. The shaving heads firmly located. Wet shave is really convenient in the shower. It is also very easy to clean.
Husband report this is a very good shaver, having used so many different ones over the years, he is impressed with this one. The wet and dry function is good, giving choice. It is fully charged in 1 hour and you can get a good shave on a single charge of 5 minutes.
The shaver is comfortable to hold, It does a good job of shaving and doesn’t irritate my skin. The shaver also features a pop up trimmer for sideburns.
I tried the shaver on 5 day growth of my facial hair, it did an okay job but I did have to some areas a few time. The shaver was better on removing daily growth.
The shaver is simple to use and easy to clean.
In the box you get the shaver, a cap for the blade and a 2 pin plug, so you’ll probably need an adaptor.
A great electric trimmer is easy to use and works incredibly well. It is very light weight and does not tire your hand out when using it for a while. The head is in a triangular pattern which allows it to shave without snagging onto anything it is extremely efficient to use. The battery is very good it tasks around an hour to change and give me a few shaves with that one charge so Its greatest to travel with.
Its comfortable to use and doesn’t rub or irritate the skin it is very easy to get to grips with when using this its simple led panel makes it easy to read and when know when its locked or when it needs to be changed absolutely great to travel with effective and lightweight I would recommend it.
This is a good shaver – holds its charge for a while, is easy to clean, and feels like it will last a good while. I’ve held back a star for two reasons – first, whilst it does a good job, it is gives no closer shave than my previous – much cheaper electric razor, and secondly, it feels just a tad bigger than an electric shaver should be which is fine at home but not great for travel. Nit picking. No other complaints.
My husband only ever used an electric shaver if he was in a rush, he much prefers a wet shave because it’s a closer and better shave. When I saw that this shaver could be used wet or dry I knew that even if he didn’t use it dry that at least he would enjoy using it with shaving foam. I am pleased to say that he loves using it either way. He can’t get over how good a shave he gets using it, it’s as good as a barber shop shave! For an electric shaver to be that good is fabulous and proves that all those sensors and flexible blades etc are definitely worth the cost. My husband was amazed at how close a shave he has with this, even if he uses it quickly for a dry shave. Best of all, unlike when he uses his normal razor, he doesn’t end up with nicks and cuts each time.
The only thing that could make the shaver better would be if instead of just bars giving an idea of your battery level, there could be numbers so that you know for definite if you need to charge it or not. Other than that, it’s perfect and I think Phillips deserves a big thumbs up for delivering a shaver that does exactly what it says on the box!!
Superb shaver form philips.
Well made and a good package.
the shaver is a joy to hold and the 3 rotors really contour to the face.
Ive tried it wet and dry and had good shaves both ways.
Doesnt take too long to be ready for the day. Its super convenient too for use at the gym
This Philips 5000 series shaver comes supplied with a mains charger that requires a two-pin socket to charge (not supplied). Luckily, I already had one of these for my electric toothbrush. Also in the box is a little cleaning brush, a clip-on cover for the top of the shaver and an instructions book. The instructions are the pictorial type, and they cover about ten different models. I found myself staring at some pictures and trying to figure out what they were telling me, before realising it was clearly something to do with a different model.
The battery was flat when I received it. If you plug it in for five minutes, you’ll get a few minutes usage out of it — enough for a quick shave. Alternatively, if you go for a full charge it takes about an hour and you’ll get about an hour’s usage in return. There’s a battery indicator with three lights so you always know how much battery you’ve got left.
I had a full beard when the shaver arrived, and I used my existing beard trimmer to cut it down to stubble length before using this shaver for a close finish. I hadn’t used an electric shaver for many years but found it quick and comfortable to use. Working in a circular motion I worked around my face. I found I had to pass over some areas a couple of times, but I was pleased with the results. It’s a lot less trouble compared to wet shaving, and I didn’t suffer from any irritation either – which often puts me off wet shaving. There’s a pop-up trimmer that you can use around the nose and sideburns, but despite the size of the main shaving head, its shape makes it quite easy to get into the nooks and crannies of your face. You can either use the shaver on dry skin or wet skin with a get or foam. I found that if I have perfectly dry skin the shaver glides around well by itself. If I’ve just jumped out of the shower it needs a little extra water and some gel to help it on its way. Cleaning is easy, there’s a little button you can push to flip up the top of the shaving head and you can then just run it under a tap to wash away any trapped hairs or shaving product.
After using this shaver everyday for a week, I’m really pleased with the results. For me it makes shaving quick and painless – and that’s all I could ask of it really.
Over the years ,I have used many different types and makes of electric shavers with varying degree of success. However, I can honestly say that this shaver has to be the closest i have every had to a wet shave.
It is very easy to clean and it has a fast charge time. This is an excellent shaver and I would have no hesitation in thoroughly recommending it – well done Phillips!!
Such a effort less shaving experience. Very well design hence very easy to operate. 360 degree rotation with integrated power adapter sensor provides you smooth shaving experience. Easy to use and clean as well. Over all a value for money product from Philips
At first, I was a bit disappointed with this shaver as I couldn’t actually use it. It only comes with a 2-pin plug for charging and as someone with a bathroom that doesn’t have any 2-pin sockets, I was basically stuffed. I was able to buy a 2-pin to UK plug adapter here on Amazon for about 3, so it wasn’t the end of the world. Maybe that’s normal for shavers and maybe I should have expected it, but I think at this price they should include one in the box really in order to cover eventualities for all customers. So anyway, heads up if you do buy this but don’t have any 2-pin plug sockets, or want to charge it anywhere else in your house, grab an adapter at the same time!
Once I actually got it going though, it was all good. It charged pretty quickly, it was almost flat straight out of the box, so required more or less a full charge, which took just over 45 minutes. There are quite a few lights and symbols on the front LED panel, but actually, outside of the battery level, they basically don’t say much, you either turn it on or turn it off. It’s about that simple. There is a lock function and a corresponding light up lock symbol, it’s handy to have for some people I’m sure, but I just ignore it and there’s also a light that tells you to charge or that it’s fully charged. Overall, the front LED panel is actually a lot simpler than it looks.
As far as cutting goes, I had about a week’s growth to test it out and I did need to use the attached trimmer first, that sit’s on the back of the handle, otherwise, I found the regular blades didn’t cut much, mostly they just slid about over top of the hair. Once I’d trimmed it all down though they did a much better job. You do have to push down quite a bit, but the head fits well to the contours of your face and never feels uncomfortable. It probably took me about 2 minutes to shave my whole face, which I thought was pretty good going. Afterwards, my face did feel a little warm, but there were no bumps or rash, so that’s good. Running out for the whole process of trimming and shaving didn’t reduce the battery meter at all, so I think you can probably get away with only needing to charge this maybe a couple of times a month, or maybe once a week at most, depending on how frequently you shave.
Cleaning was actually the best bit, you flip the head up and can get to all the innards real easy. I just ran it under the tap and everything was cleaned up just like that. I appreciated how easy it was and that there is no little nooks for hair to get stuck in. It feels like a decent quality share in your hand and has good ergonomics and a healthy weight. Up till now I have actually been using various cheap, no-brand trimmers and they’ve done the job and everything, but this actually gives you a smooth, clean-shaven feel, whereas my trimmers always left tiny stubble, which though I kinda liked, sometimes you just need a clean-shaven appearance. This feels a lot better in your hand as a device and makes shaving relatively quick and fuss-free, so that’s great.
Overall I think this is an excellent shaver. Definitely grab an adapter if you need one, but otherwise, apart from that little initial hiccup, it did a good job and I’m happy with it!
Took ages to decide to change from my trusted Braun 7 series to this phillips razor.
It quiter than my old Braun.
Easy to use, nice grip.
I had to change my shaving style – light hands not heavy and pushing on the face, take your time and don’t rushing you get a better result.
The cleaning system is quicker if a bit messy but to be honest I just r clean with the brush and then run under the cold water tap.
Nice carry case.
Would I buy again – Yes
Would I recommend – yes but be prepared to adapt your style, it is worth it.
Having come from a blade and foam shave, I wanted something without all the hassle of washing, lathering, washing again etc. Tried a cheaper Chinese make at first, but returned that due to poor battery life.
Chose this Philip’s, and managed to get it on offer, roughly half the price as on the Philip’s website. Who would pay 180 for a shaver?? Anyway, great packaging, all cardboard and recyclable. Came with a full charge indicated on the LED panel, which is one colour (until the battery needs recharging, which then turns to red). The panel shows battery level, in bars, cleaning reminder, and travel lock indicator. Also included was a hard, fabric covered travel case and a tiny brush for cleaning. No cover for the three heads, though.
The shaver is quiet, and does appear underpowered going by the noise it makes. However, with one pass, it shaved through two day’s stubble with ease. Yes, you’ll have to go over areas more than once for the closest shave, but it’s easy to get an interview-ready shave with just a pass.
The three heads move independently, following the contour of your face and neck. Don’t press too hard, just let the blades do their job and you wont suffer a red throat. Use the built in, pop up trimmer to shape your sideburns, and give it all a quick rinse under the tap to clean it.
Alternatively, you can shave wet or with lather. If you do use lather, battery life is slightly reduced due to the blades working harder, and make sure you rinse the heads during your shave to get rid of clogging soap.
Feels good in the hand, and is a good weight. Well balanced, I never once accidentally turned the shaver off. For me, the full charge lasted around 8 or 9 days, and it was fully recharged in an hour. A shaver specific 2 pin adaptor is supplied. You’re told not to shave with it plugged in, but a 5 minute charge is sufficient for a full shave, if it’s needed quickly.
All in all, a better buy than the cheaper Chinese brands, although at around twice the price when bought on offer. A two year warranty is available upon registration.
