Took a while to assemble this, the instructions are pretty tiny so ended up looking online. Hence 4 stars. Otherwise it’s quiet and operates really well.
shame this came with footprints and usage marks on even though it was bought and advertised as new.
We got onto support who were very helpful and resolved the issue quickly.
This surprised me so much! It’s genuinely almost as good as a gym based one of 1800+. The resistance is really good, the calorie count shows as lower then the same time as the gym which makes me think this one is the more accurate to be frank. It’s not rickety/swaying when I’m working out. I had the service where it was put together- two super polite guys, all done in a super speedy time, put where I wanted and no mess. Brilliant!!! 50 very well spent. Arrived at 7:30am and I was working out at 8:30. Love this!!! Be aware, it’s fairly large. Guess that’s how it’s so sturdy though. Super happy!
Lot’s of clunks and tapping – ordered assembly which was done quickly.
The left handle is loose which I’ve fixed once but it’s done it again – and it’s so noisy, lots of clicking, clunking and banging. Stick your headphones and you’ll be fine.
I’m 17 stone (for now) and it’s taking my weight, maybe it’ll be less noisy once it’s not screaming that it’s got a whale on it’s back…
I read a lot of reviews before giving this a go and I am delighted with it. We have family members who are over 110kg and this machine was perfect for everyone. It is easy to set up and the adjustments are intuitive and wide ranging using the electronic interface. The machine can measure calories burnt and pulse for this if you interested in that information. Personally breaking a sweat is enough input
I was worried about stability but needn’t have – this machine is really stable. We put down some gym matting underneath because we have a wooden floor but is is fine without. We found the adapter cable wasn’t in the box but we had one available so it wasn’t a problem for us.
The instructions for assembly are poor , the diagrams are badly drawn. However after a day I managed to assemble it , and it now works well
This cross trainer is must have for any home gym, It is durable with gym quality. When I bought it it was 123 so almost free. I use this every day , its placed in my living room and times fly as I exercise and watch my favourite tv shows.
Only down fall it is very hard to assemble and instructions are not clear at all.
We bought this for our family usage. Construction was pretty easy but definitely needs 2 people. It does require tightening up and some adjustment on a pretty regular basis, which is only to be expected. Its pretty sturdy and works well. My only complaint is the requirement to tighten bits up regularly as it creaks if you don’t. Probably would buy it again.
The machine seems sturdy and well designed with decent features; it runs smoothly and quietly. The assembly instructions consist of small illustrations, badly printed with no explanatory text and labels that are illegible (even online or using a magnifying glass). The use instructions are minimal. Fortunately all the drawbacks can be overcome using common sense and some trial and error.
Very happy with this purchase. Good size for a home cross runner, running quietly, stable when well-adjusted legs. Many different programs. It took some time to assemble. The downside is an unreliable pulsometer. Responding very slow, when putting phone in the holder it interferes with it. Pulsometer gets crazy. Also, need an AC socket nearby. But overall good value for money.
TL:DR – do not install the plastic covers on any joins part from the main stem as that one slides up. You’ll need to tighten all bolts again but in particular it’s the bolts at the bottom of stem/neck under the plastic cover that slides up that are causing the squeak.
Reebok has the best programs so despite having this squeak develop on my last one (which the reebok engineer couldn’t fix) I ordered another reebok machine. This one developed the squeak after a couple of uses and I literally tightened all bolts re greased and stripped the machine down to find out how to solve it. In the end I didn’t need to do any of that as I found the problem is in the stem bolts that I had missed thinking they’re not an active part. You just have to slide the plastic cover up and tighten them all, hard.
In general you’ll have to keep checking the bolts periodically anyway so the plastic covers will hamper that and I would keep them off. Also the reebok engineer advised you put the machine on foam mats for stability and buy some white lithium grease (not spray) and re grease the bolts every now and then. Hope I save someone some trouble!
This is my second one of these. The first one genuinely lasted me 6 years before the belt went. Never looked after it either. So when I saw the same one on Amazon for not even 200 I snapped it up.
The instructions are pretty blurry but you can go online and there are much clearer ones. Put it together myself, make sure you go through the steps and take your time would be my advice.
I’ve had this second one for 3 weeks now and everything is running how it should do. I would say maybe buy some extra heavy duty grease and coat all your nuts and bolts as you build it. It does start to get a bit noisy after a while. So that might help.
All in all though this is a fantastic machine, really gives you a great workout, the levels are challenging and there’s some great modes on it. Great if you’re taller also, I’m 6 foot 1 and it’s got a great stride length. I would definitely recommend if you’re thinking of getting it.
I’ve had my X-trainer for a year now and it’s still working as good s as when I got it. It’s sturdy and the set programs (12 of them) and the 32 levels of resistance mean I get a really good workout. I bought this when I couldn’t get to my classes in lockdown. I hate the gym. I find it boring. So I bought this so I can workout at home and watch my favourite box sets and not feel guilty (not just sitting on my bum stuffing my face!!) So to answer some questions : yes you can watch TV whilst you workout; yes the resistance is good; the set programs mean you can get a really good workout; yes it is large,( but what would you expect from a decent good quality X-trainer?) ; the wheels mean it can be moved, although it’s heavy and not so easy over carpet. (Again it’s a robust piece of kit, so yes it’s heavy) I’ve set mine up in a corner of my bedroom in front of my TV so I don’t need to move it often.
Great cross trainer although the instructions are so small you will not see what part they are telling you to fit so what I did was download the manual online and then you can zoom in on your phone and easily see the instructions …
Also I noticed some of the holes were slightly off and caused the bolts to rub and squeek when operating so I applied a little bit of grease which cured the sound
Apart from that it’s great been doing 30 mins a day a deffo get a sweat on !
Great product, very smooth and quiet to use!
It took me just over 2hrs to assemble, instructions are clear and all parts are marked so easy to identify.
I am 158cm tall and I can use this comfortably. Quality is very close to what you can use at the gym so quite impressive. Pulse measurement seems a bit off (when I compare it to the reading on my Fitbit watch) but that doesn’t bother me.
It’s well built and you can tell that they’ve put emphasis on the look too (all nuts and bolts are covered with a plastic covers).
I used it for around 2 weeks now and I am very pleased with it. Hope this feeling will remain…
Overall, I highly recommend it!
I purchased this cross trainer about a month ago and have put off reviewing until I have had chance to really try it out. I almost didn’t buy it because of some of the more negative comments about assembly difficulty, noisiness of action, lack of work out intensity etc. All I can say is that i have been really pleased with it. As a ‘slightly chubby 44 year old who used to be quite fit and active but after having 3 kids and being in a full time job with long journey time doesn’t really do much exercise anymore’ type of person, this was exactly what I needed to get me moving again. I knew I wouldn’t have time/willpower to get in car and travel to gym so this is ideal for me to pop into the boot room as soon as i get up in the morning and start the day well. Assembly was not a problem, I did it myself in about 45-60mins, everything is clearly labelled and you just follow the plan. Yes, it does squeak a bit during use but i find that quite satisfying to show I am moving 🙂 plus with music on or headphones in it soon disappears – I like to use one of those ‘cycling through the countryside’ videos on You tube which really helps the time pass quickly. I use it 3-4 times a week, generally start on level 16 and work up to level 20 in the ‘uphill’ bits, I do alternate 5 mins forwards with the arms, then 5 backwards without arms really focusing on just using leg and bum muscles … the pedal action is really smooth (make sure you set the resistance high enough because if its too easy it can be quite jolty on the knees and hips, I also have long legs so set the pedals as far back as possible and keep my feet to the back of the foot plate to increase stride length) and it certainly is enough to keep my heart thumping – over 20-25 mins workout I am using 450-500 calories. I’m not bothered about losing weight (just want to be able to eat the whole pack of popcorn or cream cake without putting anymore on!!) but I do want to firm up and already my legs & bum are tighter and more shapely and my cardio/resp endurance is improved… plus as an extra, the improved circulation to my face makes the dark circles under my eyes disappear and gives me a healthy glow for the day!! Obviously this is a review that is personal to my individual fitness ability and needs, but if you are ‘umming & ahing’ like i was I hope this will help you make your mind up.
Great, been up a couple of weeks now and getting regular use, good programmes, sturdy, quiet and feels solid. Relatively easy to assemble, did this by myself though could have done with a little more clear direction for the electrics as I did it wrong and had to re-do which was a balancing act. 3 hours later and it was up, I never put the cups on that are to cover the joints, believe it or not I found that the most difficult thing! Most of all pleased I bought it, despite having to re arrange my bedroom but thats a small price to pay
Fantastic machine in terms of quality and longevity, given its price. However, it does wobble a bit for both me and my girlfriend and we are fairly certain this is not to do with us having potentially overseen an inaccurate assembly. For context, I’m male, 5’10” and 80 kg so not enormous. It’s just not the sturdiest and biggest of Elliptical Trainers, so if you can handle it wobbling a tiny bit (not dangerously at all) it does its job well.
If you take your time and follow the instructions, laying parts out as you go, the build should be doable in 60-90 minutes as a one man job.
I waited to until we’ve had almost four months of use out of this before reviewing so as not to say it was brilliant straight away and then have it fall apart. It gets almost daily use, often by two people, both using a range of resistances, and it’s still as smooth as it was on day one. Make sure everything is tightened as it should be it will run quietly.
I recommend registering it with Reebok for the warranty.
Down sides are;
Using the phone/ tablet shelve, blocks the display and can occasionally cause you to press reset.
The calorie counter I’ve found to count around 3x too many calories per workout.
The distance counter will show around double the distance I would expect it to.
None of these downsides would be enough to stop me from recommending it.
The diagramatic instructions for assembly were not very clear and it would certainly have helped if each part had been numbered as they were on the diagram rather than having to guess from the drawings. I would advise other purchasers not to complete the various “cosmetic” coverings until the machine has been used for at least a week as some of the important bolts and screws need tightening after use. It is essential that they are tightened very firmly
Of course this isn’t top of the line, so don’t but it expecting it to be the best lol but it is great.
A few things about putting it together first.
I did it by myself, but it is definitely better if you have someone to help, but if you don’t, rest assured that it is doable.
I did the assembly in two parts because, like I said, it was just me and in order to not hate something at assembly point I decided to pace myself.
The instructions are good…ish, bu i advise trying things out before comiting and bolting it all straight away. A few bits are fidgety and you need a couple of tries to work out how to accurately fit them.
When you can’t find one of the bolts and screws in the pack, it’ll be attached to the piece itself and just needs to be taken off to use.
I relied only on the stuff the pack gives you, although I read come comments about having to get screwdrivers and such… I did not need anything like that.
For the most part, the left side pieces are identified as such, when it matters, and only one of the sets did not say L or R on the piece itself, but I think that’s because it only fit one way so not much chance for error.
As for how it works, it’s great.
The firs few runs were pretty silent, but it then started making a little noise which sometimes comes and goes, but is not loaf enough to be annoying (unless every little sound annoys you…but in that case, you’re gonna have to spend a pretty penny if you want one that is absolutely silent).
It still moves well, and I when I started using it, I listened to audio books straight from my phone and the noise did not stop it.
It has a few programs which are easy to sort out and understand even without looking through the manual, and it allows you to make your own program.
I am very happy with it, so far.
I was put off buying this for a while due to reviews saying the instructions were terrible. They really aren’t! Imagine ikea instructions but with slightly more identifiable components. No, the components aren’t labelled on each piece, but it is self explanatory. There is another set of instructions with tiny writing, but if you’re ok with following diagrams, you’re good to go.
It took me 4 hours to assemble alone (25, female with arguably little muscle mass). It would be a lot easier with two people, but by no means is it impossible. It is quite simple in theory, but can be a little fiddly and heavy at times. May involve some mild words whilst putting it together, but realistically isn’t that hard.
Its silent when operating currently. The pulse seems to be a little off, but I’ve never known similar equipment be able to track accurately. The levels are good, I turned it all the way up to test and its pretty decent. The screen is good and easy to read. The build itself seems sturdy, and I feel safe on it.
It is large (I know, stating the obvious), so make sure you have enough room!!
If youre debating it, I would say go for it and don’t be put off by negative comments.
The sensor wire, remember to remove the cable tie at the top of the neck when trying to connect the wires from neck to the base.. I spent ages trying to connect the two sensors to realise I had no slack due to the cable tie.. dont be like me.. just a warning! (It was really simple when I realised).
I bought a cross trainer after getting fed up of the swimming pool constantly shutting due to covid restrictions, and being pregnant I want to keep fit. I bought this one after doing some research, and wanting to buy from a well-known brand. I assumed it would be quite flimsy or rattly, as gym-standard ones are so expensive. I found the opposite and I’m very impressed with how good the machine is. It wasn’t too difficult to put together and took a couple of hours, kind of what you’d expect as there are a lot of parts. It’s easy to use, quiet (it starts to squeak a little after a few uses, but is still really quiet overall!) and so convenient to have in the house. I love it, and use it every day. Best covid purchase I have made.
Ordering the product and delivery
When I order this product I knew I would have to wait quite a long time when stock would be available again. To my surprise product arrive faster then was estimate by 3 week. My apartment is on 1 st floor and I am staying there on my own and I was little bit disappointed that 2 couriers refuse to bring the box in front of my apartment door leaving it in the public corridor. This not amazon fault but it put me in very uncomfortable situation.
Product and assembly
Product itself arrive in safe and secure box. Inside box beside parts you could find instructions and very well organised sheet with screws. Assembly it self was very intuitive and easy all you need to do is focus and follow instructions. Product felt like very solid build.
Features and hiccups
This model is equipped only with electronic flywheel settings without connecting it to power there is no possibility to adjust resistance which is small minus. The software it self have few settings and modes there are more then enough options and they are not confused at all. Machine it self do not have on of button (screen would switch of automatically after some time will pass when you do not use machine), not a big deal but i found that would be useful feature.
There are no holders for water, phone or what so ever. There is smal hole when you can put your phone in but it will cover most of function buttons.
The pulsometr is located only on solid handles which is a shame.
Now the biggest hiccup was that actual power adapter died after month of using a machine, I almost send it back because I was not sure what is wrong with machine itself. Lucky for me I took a risk and order another adapter to see if that is a case.
Final thoughts
Taking in consideration price of the device I will still strongly recommend this one as I am still using it and nothing is happening even for my weight 118 kg ( max user weight for machine is 120kg). I gave it 4 stars because I fell like water holder/mount is something essential what should be included with device itself.
I bought this (GX50 cross trainer) to replace my broken treadmill, first cross trainer I’ve purchased but I’ve used many at gyms. Really impressed with the smoothness and this gives a workout equal to a gym machine
Setup – takes ages. Came in a 54kg box, extremely well packaged in styrofoam. The screws/hardware comes packaged and labelled so conveniently- see my pic, and each piece has its picture below in case you forget what you took out. All together took me about 3 hours, I missed a washer so that set me back about 20 minutes.
The machine itself feels robust despite having a relatively small footprint. It’s wheel is 9kg and I’m glad I went for this model as I was going to get the 7kg less expensive model originally. I think it’s the weight that makes it such a smooth action. The stride is long enough for me (6′) and I doubt I’ll get to the highest resistance setting, there are loads. I am shocked at how quiet this machine is, you cannot hear it at all outside the room. I’ve had a treadmill at home for about 10 years and had to buy really expensive noise cancelling headphones to watch my tablet while running and it makes such a huge difference not having that noise.
The only small downside is that the cord is really short and I cannot figure out a way to turn off the machine without unplugging it -**edit to add that the machine shuts off automatically so I don’t have to unplug it**
Overall I am really pleased with this machine, for 399 it feels like it will last as long as my previous treadmill which was 800 and lasted 7 years. I would definitely recommend paying a bit more for the heavier wheel!
Assembly as others have said needs slow methodical patience, and the eyesight of a night owl at 50 paces. God…the text is so so small and blurry. If you rush the assembly you’ll get it wrong and end up taking bits apart to add the ones you missed or got wrong because if the crappy instruction leaflet. Made in China and the feel of the tooled parts ie screws nuts etc ..feels sub standard being of cheap soft metal. Reebok would never have released this sub standard item with this lack of quality control like this a few years back, but then again it wouldnt have been this cheap..so I can understand this. The nice shiny black casing had lots of small scratches, so not good quality control there either. A cover was broken upon unpacking, but the check sheets was all ticked as perfect, so I would say nothing is checked, just ticked off regardless. I took on board what others had said about the squeaking and purchased prior, a can of silicone spray, and during assembly if it moved it got sprayed. Ultra quite in operation upon completion, but early days not having had much use as yet. I think it’s excellent value for money and hope it will see us for a few years with a bit of careful use and maintenance every say 3 months. OH but the electrical connector terminals…Appaling quality and not easy to snap together without fear of them breaking with the look and feel of flimsy parts being used and rushed soldering….So as stated…A little bit good….A little bit bad…Time will tell if this stays a piece of gym equipment or somewhere to hang the washing on.
Over the years I have bought many cross trainers, i tend to stick with reebok as overall for the cost the trainers are strudy and have good features. Each trainer at some point has developed a fault, the most common being that the crank will snap on one side or other, however I am 15st 6’3″ and use this on at least level 15 for 1 hour 4/5 times per week. When I have had an issue Reebok support are very good and will either send the required parts if minor so you can self repair – or send an engineer if it is a big job – and they have twice replaced a faulty trainer for a complete new one.
These are generally easy to put together but heavy. To prolong life dont place it direct onto carpet so either use on a solid floor or place some sturdy board under it such as a length of loft board. It is best to move into room before assembly as ZR8 if over 50kg assembled and not east to manoeuvre into rooms or through doorways. At around 250 this is a great value cross trainer with a good stride and good electro magnetic resistance and comes with a 2yr warranty (regsiter online) for all the important parts. Delivery was very quick and the delivery guys were very good and will take the boxed unit to room of choice allow 1.5 hrs to assemble.
I used to be a very fit person but due to knee injuries need low impact work outs, this works for me and my bad knees.
I’ve been using this now for 3 weeks and have already noticed weight loss in the areas that matter, stomach and ass! This is without going crazy, a little nearly every day.
My one bug about this is that it arrives in a zillion pieces…ok….but the instructions need a magnifying glass, I kid you not , I had to download a magnifier to my phone. What you can’t see is the part number as it has a circle around the number, or it should be around, bad printing puts a line through the tiny number *sighs*.
In summary, if you have the patience and know how to put mechanical stuff together then get this, the programs and trainer work well and is solid, it doesn’t rock all over the place.
Best of luck 🙂
4 stars because it does look like a great bit of kit – almost gym quality. It was relatively easy to put together (about 1.5 hours with 2 of us).
As you can imagine – very heavy when delivered so moving the boxes was too difficult for just me.
Unfortunatly – I haven’t been able to use mine since it was delivered 2 weeks ago however, it has now been fixed. After building and realising there was a E-5 error on the screen, I coudn’t use it. I had 2 seperate part orders from Reebok, 1 of which was a different screen which I couldn’t use because the connector was different and 2nd was an adapter for said screen…. but the adapter was for a completely different screen. Finally an engineer has arried and the issue was a loose wire within the main body of the unit which could have been dislodged whilst being delivered and it is now fixed.
If you’re having problems with the resistance, please see the end of this review.
Haven’t used it in anger yet, but so far it seems like a good machine and is very easy to use. It’s almost, but not quite, gym quality. The resistance is good, though not quite as strong as the ones I’ve used in gyms (and usually have those on the hardest setting for the entire workout). However, at around 250, it’s a fraction of the price of any gym machine and should last a decent length of time. The stride is okay, though isn’t adjustable (I’m a 6’1″ man). This machine should do very nicely for those nights when you just can’t be bothered with the gym.
With regards to machine assembly, it was all straightforward enough, but will take around an hour or two. The instructions are clear and the pack containing the bolts and screws clearly labels each item contained within. If you can’t find a screw in one of the two packs, it’s probably already screwed into the frame. The one problem I did have was after the machine was assembled: the display came on fine and seemed to work, but the resistance setting did not seem to have any real effect. I called the freephone number on the back of the instructions (a nice move having that) and they said that the servo motor was probably broken and to e-mail in to arrange for an engineer. I e-mailed in and was then asked for my receipt (hadn’t forwarded correctly in my first e-mail). I forwarded my Amazon confirmation, but as a PDF and was then asked for some details including serial number. Was a bit annoyed that they didn’t ask for this in the first reply, it added another day delay.
An engineer was then booked (who I spoke to before coming out). I wasn’t in when the engineer came to fix the device, however it turns out that the machine wasn’t broken at all – I simply hadn’t pushed the connector into the computer unit hard enough (apparently there’s a click) which would have allowed the motor to be given the signal to adjust the magnetic resistance. I was told that this happens all the time by the engineer who called me afterwards, but it does beg the question why this isn’t included as a possible problem in the instruction booklet and why nobody on their support line/e-mail mentioned it. Reebok (or whoever the company is who makes this machine) could have saved themselves some money on sending out an engineer, but at least that was better than me having to pack up the item and return it to Amazon when it wasn’t even broken. When everything is working, you can hear a quiet noise from the servo motor when resistance is changed (which doesn’t occur if you haven’t plugged in the lead into the computer properly).
