I have owned a couple of shredders before but always found them either small but not very effective, only being able to take a few sheets at a time and needing to cool down in between loads, or larger but noisy and bulky.

I was impressed with this unit – it’s not tiny but it’s pretty compact and the way it’s designed the bin takes up most of the space so you get a good capacity for its size.

It’s very quiet in operation – easily the quietest shredder I have ever used – and I found it could take 10 standard 80gsm sheets of office paper with no issues. The micro cut shredding gives a good level of security and also saves room in the bin compared to strip-cut shredders.

The touch controls add to the sleek appearance and work well. It can handle staples but I was surprised to see it didn’t have a function for shredding CDs, though this is probably less useful in these days of cloud storage as I guess a lot of people don’t use disc-based storage any more, but it’s worth noting if you have some old discs around you wanted to securely dispose it. It also can’t shred credit cards which I liked to do on my old machine when my old card expired.

The bin is easy to take in and out and the shredded bits don’t tend to end up on the floor much, which wasn’t true of my old machine which was good at holding on to some of it and then spitting them out as you removed the bin so you ended up having to sweep up around it.

I note a lot of other reviews state theirs have not been reliable – I haven’t used mine a lot yet, so I will report back if this proves to be the case but so far I’d found this a well-designed, quiet and efficient shredder which feels pretty study and well-made.

It’s quite expensive and that and the lack of a facility to shred CDs/DVDs and credit cards is why I’m withholding one star, but it’s a good machine overall.

Quiet, fast and efficient - as it should be for the price

A heavy duty and sturdy shredder, the micro cut function is excellent for ensuring data security. The model I’ve got is suitable for 10 sheets at a time, put those through there and the confetti that comes out would take someone years to put back together.

It’s more than capable for a small office setting, I’ve had it going for nearly half an hour without issue. Every so often you need to put through one of the supplied oil sheets to keep it healthy, but apart from that not an issue. Once the bin is full I check it all into the general recycling, but that takes a good few days of shredding.

It is not the cheapest or the smallest, but the micro-cut function is necessary if you don’t have a dedicated secure paper disposal method – it’s far more secure than a cross cut.

This is a big chunky shredder that requires a fair amount of space in your home/office. It is about 50% bigger than previous shredders we’ve owned and doesn’t really sport handles for easy transport (just a slight recess each side, which seems to be there for esthetic reasons). The cuttings arrive in a pull out drawer, which is much more practical when emptying compared to a tub based shredder, but this means you can’t slot it sideways between to pieces of furniture to save space, it needs to be face outwards. You need an L shaded power cable at the back too, since the location of the power cable is great for access, but leaves a big gap between the shredder and whatevers behind it otherwise. The drawer does have a nice large window which makes seeing how full the drawer is quite easy (compared to squinting through an unlit slot, as in some shredders we’ve owned).

Despite being the most efficient shredder we’ve tried, turning paper into small confetti, it is also the quietist, which is great when using at home and potentially as night. With previous cross-cut shredders we’ve had you always get the impression that, given enough motivation, someone could reconstruct a page (especially if it is a different colour to other shredded documents). With the Momentum they’d need to be a saint of patience to reassemble all the little pieces into something readable.

Given the size and power of the shredder, I was surprised to find that it couldn’t shred credit cards. Not a deal breaker, just something to note. The paper slot is large enough for a good few pages at a time and the operation is mostly automatic – if the shredder is powered on, just start putting some paper in and it turns on automatically.

As with all shredders, you need to take care about running it continuously for long periods or it will overheat, at which point a warning light turns on and the shredder stops working until it has cooled down. You also need to oil it periodically to keep the cutters in good shape. One of the things I like the most about the Momentum is that you use special oiling sheets to achieve this. Just pop a sheet into the machine and as it shreds it it simultaneously oils itself! Awesome idea. Way better than trying to put oil in from a bottle, where over oiling dribbles into the paper bin or causes the heads to clog due to oil saturated paper cuttings.

Overall, this is a very good shredder, in my opinion. It does its job well and quietly while being easy to maintain and empty. The downsides are the size and the price. If you have no problems with space and are buying for an SME, then I’d heartily recommend it.

Unfortunately, the waste collection bucket was slightly damaged on arrival, which initially made me question the quality of the shredder but I needn’t have worried, this is a brilliant machine and the slight damage has not altered its effectiveness at all.

I had a huge pile of documents to shred and was happy when the instructions said the shredder had a 2 hour continuous run time followed by a 60 minute cool-down time. Over a period of just over 2 hours I managed to shred my mountain of papers, emptying the bin (which holds 23 litres) several times, and the machine didn’t cut-out once. It does depend on the thickness of the paper but it managed to shred at least 8 sheets at a time and ate the staples for fun! There were only a couple of times I must have been over zealous with the feed amounts and caused a paper jam, however this was cleared by the anti-jam technology, which stopped the shredder automatically and reversed the paper out.

The shredder unit was larger than I had expected and is also quite heavy to move about, but it is a powerful and relatively quiet machine. I feel that the shredder is quite an expensive piece of kit just to have to use at home and, taking its size and shredding capability into account, is probably most useful in a small business, however I must admit I love it as a luxury item and use it regularly.

Overall, this is a brilliant shredder. It runs quietly and cuts documents into tiny pieces for an extra level of security. It doesn’t take up too much room – despite this, the waste bin is a decent size, with a translucent window so you can see how much space is left before you need to empty (though there is also a sensor for that too). The bin drawer opens easily and is also simple enough to put back once you have emptied it. The control panel takes a little getting used to, as the ‘buttons’ are more like touch sensitive areas on the top of the machine rather than actual buttons. When the shredder is plugged in but on standby, one of the buttons flashes to let you know. The instruction book is also pretty easy to follow.

The shredder can only be lubricated using ‘oil sheets’ – while this is less messy than using an oil bottle, I am not sure about the value for money with them, or their biodegradability once used. Neither is there any information included on how often you should oil the machine based on frequent or infrequent use. I asked their customer services about this, they told me that if you’re using the machine ‘a couple of times every week’, to use an oil sheet every 3-4 months. I am unsure as to how often it would have to be lubricated for more frequent use, though.

For this review, I will be reviewing three shredders as the Amazon review system does not permit reviewers to provide reviews on multiple products from the same product line.
Review 1 – Rexel Momentum S206 Strip Cut Paper Shredder
Review 2 – Rexel Momentum X415 Cross Cut Paper Shredder
Review 3 – Rexel Momentum M510 Micro Cut Paper Shredder
Review 1 – Rexel Momentum S206 Strip Cut Paper Shredder. This Rexel shredder is the smallest in their Momentum range. It comes with a 9 litre bin whilst the shredder unit itself has a simple three way switch for off, auto and reverse. On the description it can shred 6 sheets at a time but in practice it started to struggle with 3 sheets. I think it can only cope with 4 sheets max. In continuous operation as with other home shredders, you can use the shredder for up to 6 minutes continuously until it cuts out and you have to wait around 2 hours. Not a showstopper as most other small domestic shredders have the same limits. Compared to my AmazonBasics shredder, the AmazonBasics one is better in terms of price and capability in being able to handle 6 sheets with relative ease.
Review 2 – Rexel Momentum X415 Cross Cut Paper Shredder. This particular shredder is significantly bigger than its sibling the S206. The shredder comes supplied with a couple of lubrication sheets but to be honest I would use Wahl shaving oil — better and cheaper. The power cable came with a 2 pin Euro plug — oops! A quick bit of electrical DIY and it was ready to plug in. The bin has a 23 litre capacity whilst the top of the shredder unit has a touch sensitive panel for operation. Apart from size, the key difference between this shredder and the cheaper S206 is security and noise. The X415 cuts paper cross cuts paper into very small pieces that even the more dedicated person wouldn’t entertain assembling back together. Noise wise — the X415 is a very quiet unit. Continuous operation of two hours I couldn’t test as we just couldn’t sit there shoving paper through for that period of time. The shredder has no qualms in swallowing 15 sheets of paper but remember it does not accept CDs or any sort of credit card sized plastic — this is solely for paper.
Review 3 – Rexel Momentum M510 Micro Cut Paper Shredder. The M510 is very similar to the X415 but differs in two important areas from the X415. It is more expensive and for the difference in price, the security upgrade is significant in that it shreds 10 sheets at a time but into such small pieces that one you shove a sheet of paper through it, that’s it — there’s no way you’ll be able to assemble it. It’s just as quiet as the X415. As with the X415, it comes with lubrication sheets and a 2 pin Euro cable. Easy to swap but I’m hoping Rexel get the UK plug cables in before these hit the stores.
In all, the S206 is suitable for the casual home owner who does a bit of occasional shredding. For the X415 and M510, these are suited to Small Office Home Office environments where security is more important along with minimal downtime when the shredder is in fairly constant use. With my missus and her sister dealing with financial and legal matters most of the time, both these shredders fit the bill. They may take up space and cost more but it’s the added piece of mind that you’re paying for.

A little larger than your every day household shredder, with casters fitted it stands almost 60cm tall and if you can’t visualise that then it comes up to the knee of an average adult. Getting going is as simple as pushing the casters into the holes provided on the bottom, attaching the mains cable and turning on the mains power switch on the back of the unit. The machine will start in stand-by mode (a slowly flashing blue light) but all that’s required to activate it is a single push on the power button on the front console. As you switch on, all the LEDs on the front panel will flash once to let you know the bulbs are working. Now you can feed in up to 15 sheets of roughly 80gsm A4 paper, 80gsm being your typical printer/photocopier letter. The nice thing here is that the machine really will actually munch through the advertised 15 sheets at a time, and will continue to do so time after time without slowing down. You will however notice that after putting 4 or 5 sets of 15 sheets through, fans inside the back of the shredder will automatically switch on to help cool the motor. The fans aren’t loud and will switch off a couple of minutes after you stop shredding. During my initial shredding session of about 100 sheets thanks to some efforts to go paperless, the fans were going but I didn’t induce the overheat warning which is a small red LED on the front panel, so it feels like the machine will deal with quite a heavy load. I’d say that my 100 sheet shredding session filled the 30 litre waste bin to about 30% which for light to moderate home use means you won’t need to empty the bin that often. That said, this machine would probably cope with a small office of half a dozen users as well. As far as noise is concerned, it’s a lot quieter than my old machine and I don’t consider it intrusive but each to their own, and the instructions quote the noise level as 59dB. Sure you wouldn’t want to sleep next to it but in a quiet household or an office where people are on the phone, I’d say it’s fine. As far as speed is concerned, it takes about 7 seconds to demolish 15 sheets of A4 fed into it at once.

Once you’ve finished shredding and need to empty the machine (there is an ‘Empty the bin’ warning if it gets too full), it’s dead easy to just slide the bin out and dispose of the contents accordingly. One point to note is that this is a ‘Micro Cut’ shredder and will produce much finer output than your typical shredder, to the Din P5 standard in fact (Din Level P5 shredders shred paper to a maximum cross cut particle surface area of 30mm with a maximum strip width of 2mm = 2x15mm). By way of comparison I’ve taken a photo of the micro cut waste from this machine (on the right) compared to the standard cross cut waste from my old shredder (on the left) so you can see the difference. The micro cut waste is slightly more susceptible to static meaning you can get a few more bits stuck to the bin when you empty it but that’s not the machine’s fault, it’s just physics.

After a few minutes on not being used the machine will revert back to stand-by to save electricity which according to the blurb is just 1.5W, compared to 450W while in use. The front panel sports buttons and LEDs for power, reverse mode, overheating, paper jam (you press the R button to clear it), bin needs emptying and bin open. In the case of the last LED the machine stops shredding if the bin is open as a safety precaution. The shredder doesn’t have a proximity sensor, so if you put your hand on top of the machine while it’s in operation it won’t stop automatically. Instead you’d need to use the mains power switch on the back of the device.

The shredder comes with an envelope of oiled sheets and in the instructions it tells you that you must use these or Rexel shredder oil for maintenance, although how often this is required isn’t clear from the instructions. Also one caveat is that if you use a non-Rexel oil then you void the machine’s warranty. The basic operation of the machine is described in a series of pictures in the instruction manual. Some accompanying words, even something brief, would have helped but to be fair it’s a pretty intuitive machine to use.

To conclude I reckon this is a perfectly good shredder for what I use it for (light household duties) and being easy to operate and fairly quite I’m pretty pleased with it.

The Rexel Momentum M510 Micro Cut Paper Shredder is a big machine if being used in a domestic setting, whereas in an office environment, it would probably be considered quite compact.

In my opinion, the following sums up this machines strengths and weaknesses: –

      PROS
      * It can handle 10 sheets at a time with ease
      * It shreds papers into 15mm x 2mm strips, the highest security level – far finer than my other machines 40mm x 4mm
      * There is no need to remove staples or lightweight clips from paperwork
      * When being used, the machine is reasonably quiet
      * The pull out bin can hold a good amount of shredded paper – 23L or 250 A4 sheets
      * Touch button operation is straightforward and fairly logical – power on, start and reverse buttons
      * Anti- jam technology – motor automatically stops and reverses when too much paper is inserted
      * The motor cuts out if it becomes too hot and a warning light indicates that the machine needs to cool down but this should seldom occur as the motor can apparently run continuously for up to 2 hours at a time.
      * A safety feature prevents the use of the shredder when the bin is not securely pushed home

      CONS
      * Bulky
      * Heavy
      * The manufacturer does not recommended using it for shredding things such as sticky labels, magazines, heavy duty staples and clips or CD’s
      * The instruction manual is useless – it has no operating instructions, just a description of the various indicator lights and a lot of health and safety instructions – luckily it’s fairly easy to work out.

I feel that this machine is probably best suited to an office environment where there is a need to shred a lot of multi-page documents to a high level of security without the hassle of removing clips or staples. There are paper shredders on the market with similar features to this machine but not all have the capability to shred to such a high security level as this over such a prolonged period of operation.

    9. Morgan Little says:

My eyes watered at the price of this shredder but I work in an office with lots of confidential documents that need disposing of and although I could walk to reception, I was looking for an inoffensive, less noisy machine that I could use myself to save the trip – this is it.

Previous shredders I have owned make the most terrible noise, always jamming and have genuinely made me a bit scared to use them. This one is different. It has a touch sensitive button the front that turns it on. Left for a few minutes unused and it goes back to sleep. When on, put the paper in the groove and it takes a good couple of seconds before it growls into life. It is quiet and discrete and doesn’t take that terrible grinding noise.

The bin is large and the shred is very fine – much finer than usual cross cut shredders. There is NO WAY you could read anything on any of these pages (some of the reviews above claim that you can on some of the shredders).

It comes with a set of oiling sheets which is great. In the unlikely event of a jam, it has a reverse gear but I have put huge wodges of paper in with no problems at all.

You’re paying a lot of money for this shredder but I think you are getting what you are paying for.

A really solid workhorse of a shredder - expensive but not your usual under-desk machine

This Rexel M515 shredder is quite a large unit. More suited to small business use.

The box contains four castors which need assembly – very simply to do, power cable, pre-oiled lubrication paper and instructions.

The M515 features touch control. To get the machine operational, there is a small power switch on the rear. Once this has been turned on, the touch panel also has a power button which needs to be activated for operation.

The shredder cutting size is very small at 2mm width and 15mm in length. In terms of security guidance, there are levels P1-P7 – this M515 being P5 which is useful for confidential data disposal.

General domestic shredders have 15min of use before they overheat. The M515 has 4 hour constant use rating. I personally used it for 30mins straight without interruption. There is an internal cooling fan to keep the shredder operational for long consistent use.
If the unit becomes overheated, there is an indicator on the control panel.

The M515 also automatically clears jams, automatically reverses and then feeds again to cut through the jam. There is also a reverse action button should you need to take control.

The M515 can take unto 15 sheets, the max I personally did was 10 sheets. The operation is very quiet unlike domestic shredders.

If the unit is un-used, the M515 does go to Auto-Sleep mode.

The emptying is very easy and does not make a mess. Once the bin is full or at capacity, the control panel will indicate to empty the bin.

Maintenance is easy also. Pre-oiled paper is supplied (6 sheets), the control panel will indicated when lubrication is required. Simply feed the oiled paper through the shredder.

I would personally recommend the M515 especially for small business use. It is ideal especially due to run time, the waste capacity, the security level shredding.

Impressive - Ideal for small business use

I got the M510 micro cut shredder for my home office. It’s big and boxy-looking and quite heavy (aprx 12kg), but once in place wherever you’re going to house it, this is not remotely bothersome. It feels like a heavy duty shredder for a home office and it literally shreds everything into tiny pieces so nothing is legible. You can shred up to 10 sheets of 80gsm printer paper in one go and it will also take small staples and sheets of 200gsm card.

I placed mine under the desk so it would out of the way but still easily accessible and usable on a daily basis. The main power switch is actually at the back of the shredder but there’s what appears to be a standby button at the front (can’t tell for sure from the minimal pictographic manual). To turn it off properly you’ll have to press the switch at the back of the shredder or turn it off at the mains, which requires a bit of extra effort. You can shred continuously for 2 hours and then it’ll need a 1 hour break before you can go again (impressive compared to my old shredders!).

It’s surprisingly a pretty quiet shredder, much much quieter than smaller shredders I’ve owned in the past (which have ranged from 20-80) and it’s got a lovely smooth operation. The bit where you insert the paper is at the top and isn’t ideal for how I’ve placed the shredder under the desk, pushed back a bit. I probably would’ve been better off with a more angled chute where you can just slot papers in at more of a 90 degree angle. I’ve pulled the shredder out closer to the front of the desk to make it more comfortable to feed papers in but I reckon it would be better placed next to the desk so you can feed the paper directly in from the top at the correct angle.

I’m quite happy with my new shredder; it’s powerful, big (but not monstrous) and quiet in its operation. A few small complaints regarding the location of the main power switch and the angle at which you have to direct the paper in but I’ve tried to adapt to this. The two hour run-time is very handy for longer shredding sessions. Good overall if your budget allows for it.

This shredder is very good.It is a large and heavy thing but when the wheels (that are inside) are fitted it can be scooted round easily. It’s very easy to set up and the instructions are pictorial but fairly easy to decipher. It is quite quiet in operation.I particularly liked the warning not to let your tie drop in while you are using it!A la Mr Bean would do!

This is a really good shredder. The cut of the shredded material is one of the finest I have seen, and certainly the most secure way of shredding documents. This is quite a large shredder obviously designed for more the office environment as the run time is a quoted 2 hours. From my current shredder, I get about 15 minutes at most before it overheats. There is a large bin for the material to drop in, and it is easily emptied.

A power switch on the back top right to me is essential as you can turn the unit off completely without consuming the power in standby, as you are not shredding all the time every day.

Due to the security rating of the size of shredded material, you cannot shred credit cards or CD’s, so for those its back to scissors and nails to destroy them.

The one irritating feature is the power in lead. This is a straight connector that goes in the back, so this means that it does not go against a wall, you need to leave a fair sized gap. For this price, I would have expected a right-angled supply so that you could push it against something to make it flush.

Overall, a great shredder for the security conscious.

Rexel Momentum M510 Micro Cut Paper Shredder, Shreds 10 Sheets, 23 Litre Bin, Black, 2104575 is a well-made shredder though I must say it is much larger than our earlier models. It was easy to set up with the simple act of placing the cable incorrect insert and plugging in. The instruction book is basically stating what each touch panel button is for. The machine will stop working if overheated, i.e. if you continue to shred over a longer period than the maker recommends or of the large bin, is full. I personally found it overheated quicker than the two-hour time period as instructed plus I in no way shredded over 250 pages, but I still needed to empty the bin. I did push the paper down twice which did allow the shredder to continue working.
The bin itself is so easy to empty, no more of me having to lift the main shredder away from the bin and then emptying the shredded paper, it simply takes one action of removing the bin by pulling the bin out like a drawer. The red light will light up on the touch panel which will show the shredder will not work while the bin is removed. Therefore, a very safe model to use.
The one thing which I was very pleased with is the fact the shredder was so quiet compared to other shredders I have had in the past. I also like the fact the manufacturer included oiled sheets to keep the teeth of the shredder in good condition. I have always used shredder oil with my shredders and I personally would not do without keeping the main shredder in good condition. I find this has helped my shredders last a lot longer and keep providing good cutting results without sticking etc.
This is a high-quality machine which is large, delivers great results as it shreds the paper to micro size pieces of paper which is a much safer way when it comes to your own personal information.
A great product which I am happy to recommend.

Wow! This is a beast of a shredder with excellent security through its fast ‘micro cut’ action. It arrives in a big box and is rather heavy. Even getting it out the box is a task. Open it up and you get the mains lead, an instruction book and in my pack a card envelope with 6 ‘oil sheets’ to things clean and sharp. Not sure of the latter is included with all packs, or if it’s a special.

Operation is simple and instructions are barely needed. Plug in and check out the soft touch buttons on the front. Insert paper. Be impressed. I tried 6 sheets to start and speed is impressive. Went right through with no stuttering. Does ten sheets fine too … slightly less swift but still the fastest shred I’ve ever seen. One amazing feature, what really makes this stand out, is the 2 hour run time. If you have a big shredding job it’ll keep going. Ideal for an office move when you’ve got loads to get through.

Build quality is what you’d expect for a business machine. Don’t drop it on your foot as you take it out of the box – seriously, you will feel it! Emptying is simple. None of that awkward lift the motor thing. Just ease out the bin from the front, empty and slip back. Easy. Buttons all work first press and are easy to understand. There is a reverse function that will be very familiar to regular shredder users, but I didn’t need it. I had no jamming. I’m not sure how the anti jam function works but it does seem to.

So if you need a business class shredder that will offer secure shredding and take the rough of tumble of office life then this represents a good investment. It’s around three times the price of a typical decent home/office type model, but it’ll be way more jam prone, have less secure cutting and way less continued use time. I’d say this is tailor made for a busy office. If you’re a light user then it’ll be overkill.

This office size heavy duty shredder is simple to unpack and install. All that you have to do is push in the four castors, take out two strips of trailing sponge inside the drawer and remove the instruction book from it, plug in and you are ready to go – this is simple!

Turn on with the mains switch at the rear, and pop your first item in the slot at the top. It recommends up to 15 sheets at a time, and I would say that is right, but I successfully shredded a pile of 30 page magazines with just a couple engaging the automatic document clearing process, but none of them caused a problem. I ran another pile through open at the middle, making them 15 pages A4 and they whizzed through. I got so excited using this I shredded almost everything I had, and I didn’t stop until I had filled the bin (but that took some doing!)

Opening the bin there is a bit of dust that flies out into the air – you should be aware of this for anyone with breathing difficulties, but the quality of the shredding is incredible. There is no way you could piece it all back together- pieces are tiny – not long like traditional shredders, but cut every few millimetres. The contents of the bin would make great packaging for delicates items that you may send through the post, but I don’t think that the receiver would be very happy – the results make confetti look tidy.

For security this is a godsend – an absolutely brilliant product that continually delivers the goods and makes sure that nothing can be ever read again. It’s waste product also takes up less space in your bin than loads of ripped documents and so is good for waste disposal – you can however recycle this like you can paper and carboard.

The product is robust and wheels around the office easily – you just need to plug into to a nearby mains socket and away you go. This is a must for any office with a regular throughput of waste paper and especially so where you don’t want commercially sensitive details falling into the wrong hands. It does of course take up a bit of room (see sizes show on page) but this is designed to deal with a big problem and so you need a fairly big shredder.
I am so pleased with this and if this makes me seem weird, then I apologise, but I love using it!

This Rexel Momentum M510 Micro Cut Paper Shredder is large but not too bulky measuring 279mm deep, 465mm high and 370mm wide and weighing in at around 12.5Kg. The unit can shred up to 10 sheets plus staples and paper clips and features a 23-litre bin which is roughly big enough for 250 shredded A4 sheets. The unit looks and feels well made and its grey contrasting grey/silver finish should fit into most home/office environments.

Operation is intuitive and there are a number of handy features including an anti-jam system which, if you insert too many sheets of paper the unit automatically goes into reverse — this works well. There is a row of soft-touch buttons and warning indicators. The only slight omission I can see is that unlike some competing brands there’s little reference to safety, for example, my current shredder has a feature where if it senses your hand or another object too near it won’t operate, although, to be fair the cutting mechanism on the M510 is well shielded.

The shredding capability is P5 = 2 x15mm micro pieces which meets EU GDPR standards, in practice, this seems more than adequate for domestic and most office use cutting a sheet of A4 into around 2000 pieces. The bin is easy to remove, empty and replace.

The unit is quite quiet relative to other shredders I’ve used and processes the paper swiftly plus it can operate continuously for up to 2 hours before an auto cutout operates.

I think this is a well made, decent looking and effective medium range shredder for more frequent home or lighter office use — I like it a lot.

The Rexel Momentum M515 is a level P5 security micro cross cut shredder and can run 4hrs continuously. Never jammed once and destroyed everything we gave it including stapled and paper-clipped documents and cardboard. It is a heavy machine so out of the box all that needs attaching are the supplied wheels, power cord and it’s ready to go.

The Rexel Momentum X420 is a level P4 security cross cut shredder so produces larger pieces than its bigger brother but which are still small enough to be secure and again runs for 4hrs continuously. This did jam once as my husband was over zealous with what he was trying to shred however the machine’s sensors just automatically rejected the offending object. Being heavy needs it’s wheels attaching and power cord.

Both machines are whisper quiet, superbly efficient, feel very sturdy and look like they would take a lot of shredding punishment and both are backed by a 2 year guarantee. According to the instructions after 4hrs continuous use the machines need a 1hr break. Both have digital panels which are easy to read and self explanatory and both have a 30L bin. They both also come with an envelope containing 6x lubricating sheets. The M515 came out tops for us, not because it was quicker or quieter but because of the micro fine shredding which we need for the added security. Both machines were robustly packaged so arrived in pristine condition. This is quite frankly a superb shredder from Rexel, and a trusted brand generally.

First off, its large and heavy as you would expect. Unpacking and setup is straightforward and the controls are also straightforward. I like the touch controls, easy to use.

So, I tend to store up my paper and shred a lot in one go. This causes a few issues using a cheap shredder bought form the supermarket. The bin is small, requiring a few empties during my use and the unit can only go for 15 minutes or so before it needs time to cool down. This blows that out of the water and quite righly so being clearly deigned for soho use.

The shredder is well built and has castors for ease of movement.

Theres a whopping 30 litre bin and most importantly is shreds to P5 level. So that A4 sheet is now in 2000 pieces and unlikely to ever be reconstructed. It can handles upto 15 sheets at a time and can actually shred continuously for 4 hrs. I have no intention or ability to do so but this is a good indicator that it will clearly boss through your shredding without breaking a sweat.

Theres a 2 years guarantee but importantly maintenance is key. Included in the pack are oil sheets for use periodically or after extended heavy use. Ultimately the shredder is a machine and needs to keep lubricated. You can imagine fine paper dust is pretty good at clogging it.

Overall a mini workhouse ideal for any soho
