Very easy to install and as it came with the heat sink designed for the PS5 so no need to get a separate one. Took just minutes to format once installed and had no issues now I have much more room for games etc on my console
Hi, a heatsink is essential if you are installing an SSD into a PS5 and the SSD doesn’t include a built-in heatsink. It’s recommended all over the place and bought on my Sons recommendation. It’s also not a fortune and seems to work well. Thoroughly recommended.
Regards Graham.
Doesn’t hit Sonys recommended speed but less than half the price of a recommended gen 4 NVMe drive for the PS5. PS5 formatted it no problem only gave one short message saying it was slower than recommended. I’ve just left my speed critical online games (Apex/Overwatch etc…) on internal storage and put ‘offline’ and PS4 titles on the drive.
Remember you will need a heatsink to use this in the PS5 though…
Does exactly what I needed it to do. No issues at all
Since the m.2 I’d installed had a heat spreader I decided I wanted to add a heat sink just incase. I’d been using without this for approx 2 months with no problems , so really just a precaution. Easy enough to fit, though disappointed the edge of the thermal pad was damaged ( god knows how). Screwdriver that comes with it is basic and works – much better to use a proper one than this as it is so thin and hard to twist. Seems quite a bit of money for an aluminium block.
Easy to install, good value, quality product & runs fine on the PS5 at 6500rpm. Bought with the heat sink.
If you have a PS5 do not hesitate, this is the one to go. It is absolutely designed for the console. It is not the cheapest, probably you will find something cheaper but if you want something that is compatible with any m2 mvme card, easy to install and good looking, this is the one.
Not only is it simple to install and get an extra 1Tb of space in minutes but the heat sink it comes with works brilliantly! I noticed before the install that after a long gaming sesh (6-8 hrs+) the PS5 was pretty hot towards the back of the console. Now that the heat sink is installed I would say that it’s reduced the heat given off by about 80-95% depending on how long it’s been on. I’m no expert but I would imagine this will help to increase the life of our PS5
I was skeptical when buying this for my ps5 as I don’t really know much about SSD’s, as well as the price but it was definitely worth it! Instantly put my mind at ease as soon as it arrived. Only thing I would recommend is to not use the screwdriver provided as it was too small.
I needed a heatsink and wanted one designed with the PS in mind rather than something more generic and this Sabrent one didn’t disappoint. I picked up a good deal on a Crucial NVME ssd and this works just fine with that keeping it cool. No complaints a few months down the line!
Took less than 5 minutes to install and I only paid a tenner…
Don’t put the metal cover bk on the top…
Very very good build quality and absolute breeze to install.
The heatsink makes good contact with the SSD and covers a wide area, including storage controllers on most drives.
Excellent value.
Purchased to pair with The Samsung 980 Ssd as shown in the attached photo. Well boxed and had the Thermal tape already fitted to heatsink, you just peel off the protective label and fit the heatsink like you would when using the original bay cover. You can easily remove the heatsink once fitted as the tape presses onto the Ssd and does not bond making removal hard as some folk worried about. After i had fitted the heatsink and screwed down into place i then removed it and it was just as easy as taking off the original cover. Some say No heatsink is needed but when it looks this cool and doubles up as a cover ai found it a no brainer. Very pleased and yes i used a Samsung SSD 980 pro and it was a perfect match. Hope this and the other review i did helps you on making your purchase easier.
Bought for my PS5, the extra storage is worth paying for, fast & easy to install. Sadly developed a fault, but this was easily sorted with a replacement sent from the USA. Great no hassle customer service.
Product works exactly as advertised, it is a large aluminium heatsink that has an adhesive thermal pad on the underside to stick directly to the ssd, and the heatsink itself is shaped to entirely replace the ssd cover for your ps5 (put the original in a safe place). It installs _after_ you have installed the ssd (including after fixing the ssd in place with the retaining screw) so I hope the adhesive is fairly weak if I ever have to remove it; the heatsink will need to be removed entirely before you can start unscrewing the ssd.
This is almost essential given the size of some games now, easy to install, no hassle. Works in the background. Good packaging too
Took only a few minutes to install. Recommend a vacuum handy – my ps5 was filth inside! Gave it a good clean before fitting the memory. Switched ps5 on and it recognised it straight away. Moved games across without issue and all seem to play as quick as ever. Spot on 🙂
Prior to this I had a Gammix S70Blade. No problems however with this the side of my PS5 gets hotter than ever. The read and write speeds are great though.
Would have liked a bigger one but not possible right now,but will be this brand when can get bigger one, easy to put in,was up & running in 10 min flat, very very pleased.recommended!
A good value for money SSD for a Playstation 5 easy to install and has made my own Playstation 5 with more space for future games to be stored its worth it I recommend
This SSD is a great upgrade for the ps5. Easy to install & loads of room for all my games on the ps5 now I have this installed. Not a cheap upgrade but I would say it’s good value compared to the competitors & package comes with a heat sink.
This SSD is perfect as additional storage in the PS5. Pair it with the Sabrent PS5 heatsink for the perfect combination (other heatsinks work, but putting the plate back on increases the heat, whereas the Sabrent PS5 one replaces that plate, leading to the most efficient cooling possible on the console).
This SSD has an endurance of 1400 Terabytes written, which is enough to last many years, if not decades.
Takes 5 mins to install and have working.
Transfer games from internal to the ssd in seconds.
Even transfer saved games on USB drive in minutes.
Zero issues. Just does the job.
1tb allows me 50 games. Depending on the size. And internal free for more.
I purchased this item as I wanted extra storage on my ps5 and knew the m.2 drive was the best way to go.
Easy to install on my console, unclip the cover and 2 screws later it was done and ready to use. Handy to have when you want to save new games rather than have it on the console internal hdd
Very simple to install, and a great price as it includes the heat sink. Just note that it registers to your PS5 as an additional section of storage, it doesn’t expand what you already have (so 1 game’s files won’t go across the two HDD) but PS5 games play perfectly.
When I put the card into the playstation it did standup at an angle but don’t worry that’s normal.
It also needs a real good push into the console so don’t worry about feeing like you’re forcing it in.
1TB for 160 for use with ps5 is a really attractive price if you want anything bigger say a 2 or 4TB it can get a bit expensive but overall its a good product highly reccomend the sabrent over other M.2 ssds if you are putting it into a ps5. stays cool because of its design, a must buy if you own a digital ps5.
I was a bit hesitant about ordering this, as my knowledge and experience for installing an internal drive is zero.
I needn’t have worried, it was very easy and no one should worry about the ease of installation.
The drive arrives promptly, was very well packaged and with the heatsink makes it good value compared with other products.
Works seamlessly with the PS5.
I can highly recommend this drive.
I bought this drive like many others to drop into my ps5.
When the beta firmware was released I bought a Samsung 980pro and third party heatsink which has been fine, the drive was capped at 5500MB/s as it needed to be plugged into a PC/laptop and updated/placed into turbo mode to uncap it.
I was curious about trying this one though as it comes with the custom heatsink so I handed the other down and bought this one.
Installing it is dead easy and should take no more then half hour (even if it’s your first time), Don’t forget to place the round metal spacer found under the screw inside the drive bay, under the SSD to prevent damage to your drive and/or console. These little fellas run hot under load.
This unit is presented well, both the heatsink and drive come in one little box that fits in a letterbox, inside the box each one has its own second box, the SSD also comes in a little rose gold tin.
I was disappointed to find that although they come well packed and shouldn’t be damaged in transit, the finish on my heatsink was a little shoddy, the metal on the right-hand side was exposed not a lot but enough to catch my eye I will no doubt try correct this later with a black Sharpie. None the less I was disappointed.
After reading some of the reviews regarding read speeds, I was pleased to see the ps5 reported the read speed as just over 6500MB/s after format, it would of done my head in a little if this one needed hooking up to a PC to enable the advertised speed too.
I’ve not registered my drive yet to clarify as I’ve been too busy testing games but it’s supposed to come with a 5 year warranty I will edit this review when I have more details.
(Edit:) The warranty is 5 years or 700TB written whichever comes first, when registering it on the sabrent website you will need the model number and serial number of your drive.
These can be found on a little sticker attached to each box so keep it safe.
The heatsink even comes with a 2 year warranty but I’m unsure what could possibly go wrong with it.
From what I’ve just seen on my orders page Amazon offer 2years support on this product too.
(Edit:) Amazons 2 year support also covers drive failure (excluding accidental damage), I also received a 10 voucher for my heatsink paint finish (5* customer service as usual).
I paid 159.99 for the SSD/heatsink and with the exception of the poor quality finish on the heatsink I’m happy with the purchase (so far).
I moved my existing games (6or7 games) from the internal SSD to the nvme around 360GB of them and it took maybe 6/8 minutes, by the time I put my screwdriver back in my tool bag and tidied the box away for safe keeping it was finished.
I’ve been playing Riders Republic, Dirt5, AC Valhalla and Far Cry 6 this afternoon and performance has been on par with the internal SSD and the 980pro.
No difference really, well none the stood out to me.. smooth gameplay, fast loading times.
I think that about covers everything, if I think of anything else I’ll edit it later on.
Hope this review helps
After moaning about how bad the console memory is and once something enabled the expansion port I’ve been looking for something that won’t break the bank but was good. This product did exactly that and so glad I brought it.
It takes far longer to move files from Sabrent SSD to PS5 SSD. That goes to show that the write speeds are much faster on the Sabrent. Best drive in the market with heatsink combination. You definitely need a heatsink to prevent throttling and for it to last longer.
1TB of storage. I’ve been playing all my games from this SSD device and had no issues at all on ps5. Easy to install with the help of an online tutorial if like me not sure and new to this sort of expansion. Looks a lot better than an external storage hanging around. No brainer for me.
This arrived well packaged. I got a Samsung 980 Pro to go with it.
Took me a while to get the PS5 open as I was very apprehensive, but once you have the knack it is straightforward.
The heatsink fits on too very well. But as you push it down it does feel like it is putting more pressure on the SSD than feels “right”. It wasn’t like it felt like it would snap the SSD but it did make me a little nervous and I had my fingers crossed when powering up the PS5. Thankfully it worked and the ssd was ready to use shortly after.
I understand that early versions of this came with the thermal layer separate and you had to place this between the ssd and sink yourself. Mine has the thermal later fixed to the sink. But it wasn’t the full length. My 980 Pro is one of the shorter SSDs. I’m not sure if there are any of the longer ones available yet for the PS5 but if you do get one, then be aware that the thermal layer on this sink will not cover the full surface of the SSD.
Sat in a PS5 for a month and had no issues.
The PS5 is really well designed to accommodate these expansion SSD cards. The system recognises the card instantly, runs quick, and allows you to swap files between drives seamlessly. Very impressed Sony.
Without doubt this is the best SSD you can get for the PS5, easy to install, fast delivery and overall product is fantastic. Read speed is fast and plays games smoothly without any issues. Heatsink does it’s job at keeping the SSD cool. Thank you Sabrent for making such a reliable product for my PS5!
2TB storage does the job. Clone software had my old disk done in less that 10 minutes.
Meets all the performance expectations.
Runs much cooler than expect, with Mobo Asus heatsink, idles at 32 degrees.
Bought this to extend my PS5 storage. As has been mentioned in previous comments, I also purchased this heatsink to go with it:
QIVYNSRY M.2 heatsink 2280
With this heatsink fitted it easily slots into the PS5 bay and the tray cover screws down easily.
Performance of this memory , as indicated by the PS5 test was 6500 gb/s, so plenty fast enough and probably one of the fastest you can get for your PS5.
Highly recommend this combination of heatsink and memory as an extension for the PS5.
Been using it for almost a month, run a lot of the games from the ssd, works perfectly. If anyone is interested I used a “Jonsbo M. 2 SSD Cooler – Grey” heatsink, 6 on overclockers and it fits perfectly into the slot for the ps5. Take your time to plan how to get it all connected, the tollerences are millimeters, but it does fit.
Would recommend for sure, managed to get it at a time when it was 70 cheaper than rrp.
I’m going to keep this simple….
My god, this this is fast…
It cold boots windows in around 5 seconds on an 11700k with 32gb of ddr4 3600. So fast the wheel of dots doesn’t have time to rotate more than once… now that’s impressive.
Bought this to expand the storage on my PS5. It fits easily and works well. It does not come with a heat sink, so recommend buying one separately. This is a single sided NVMe drive.
Speed was reported at over 6550; well above the 5500 minimum spec Sony requires
Bought this for use with the PlayStation 5 now that M.2 SSDs are supported (in beta as this is written), works brilliantly. The PS5 reports it as having a 6557MB/s read speed, which is plenty for its requirements and games all load just as they’re supposed to – in fact, as some outlets have already reported, a good M.2 SSD is actually faster than the built in storage!
Didn’t test random writes. But, at random reads it’s going at 7.5GB/sec, and still around 5.5GB/sec when testing random reads with tiny files.
It’s oh-my-lawd levels of fast. So fast in fact, that you likely won’t even see its full benefit for most things. Right now for simple stuff like gaming, you’ll not see vastly improved loading times. It’s certainly novel for a Threadripper to be the bottleneck when loading applications.
Decompressing gigs of crap between two of these things on correctly-configured systems is insanity levels of fast. If time is money, consider a good Gen4 NVME to be an investment that will pay for itself, and these are definitely amongst the best.
