Very small and portable, plenty of storage, and my machine can read and write to it very rapidly with no frustrating delays. I can watch video files straight from this hard drive without any lagging. Exactly what I wanted. I might buy two.
I used this to breath life into an older iMac. I installed the Mac OS on this drive, and it’s transformed the Mac from an almost unusable machine to something that is a pleasure to use.
The fact that it came with both USB-A and USB-C was superb too.
I have purchased multiple Shield T7 drives and they’ve been rock solid. Used primarily as part of my mobile recording rig, so getting moved around and hostels about constantly and never had any issues. Recommended.
Great little external drive, I wanted some more storage for a Mac mini and this is compact, nicely made and really quite quick. I had speed issues using and older drive caddy with a sata ssd in it and swapping to this elimated all those problems
I bought this as a backup device for my Mac it works really well is compact and should last a long time. It made my time machine backup appear much quicker and at under 100 it’s a win win.
Great speed, works with other C type cables if you are me and forget where you placed the original ones (make sure it’s at least one of the thicker kind of cables) and the original cables do have ridiculous transfer speed. It does get a bit warm when I send 50GB at once and it handles it very steadily and fast, so hey, it is a mini portable device, not a space rocket :)) Highly recommended!
I needed a decent hard drive to store my music catalogue for DJ-ing. This offering from Samsung looked to be my best option. It’s a nice compact size, has a rubberised outer & hopefully will be durable & reliable. Only time will tell but so far, I’m impressed. Its also a high speed drive, so transferring files is pretty quick.
I purchased a T7 to go alongside my T5, but doubled my storage and went with the 1tb version. USB 3.2 so rapid speeds on file transfer which was necessary for me. Rather than buying the T7 that has the silicone shield case (cost a fortune) I instead bought a silicone sleeve on eBay for a few quid. Now I have a nice, more protected product to take on the go with me. Excellent item.
Looks and feels sturdy. I have not tested it in any harsh environment but it did survive a few meter tall drops to hard concrete without damage, internally or otherwise. Fast read and write speeds.
It’s fast, like working on your local hard drive. So much better than the normal disc HDs. It connects and disconnects easily too, you don’t have to wait long like the others. And it’s small!! Very happy with i
The first thing I noticed was how well made this is. I am not sure whether the casing is a hard synthetic or an anodized alloy: either way it is solid and has a good weight to it.
I easily installed the software for password and 256 bit encryption.
I formatted for NTFS, as I am using as an external backup for a Win11 PC.
Write speed is a solid 500MBs for large files and about half that for small files. Not bad for encrypted files.
The drive got warm but not enough to cause any kind of concern.
Nice drive at a reasonable cost, as I only need a 1TB drive.
Drive is much smaller than I expected, therefore, it is highly portable and its large capacity and fast speed means that I can backup files with ease. I need to keep my files in sync on two laptops – this drive allows me to manage this with ease.
Bought to run a Hackintosh off of my current PC whilst thinking of switching to a Mac Mini. Perfect for this use – fast transfer speeds, convenient size, plug and play, great value for money. Highly recommended!
The performance of this hard drive has been excellent so far. The read and write speeds are impressive, making data transfers fast and efficient. I have used it for gaming and media editing, and it handles large files without any noticeable slowdowns.
I also ordered another one to use it as external drive for final cut, really impressed with i
This is quite a small unit, but, it is quite powerful in terms of memory capability. I just wanted it to back up all of my photos which are on my PC, and it does just that. Speed is of no concern to me so I am not bothered about that. It, so far, has done all I have asked of i
Hello…..this is bloody good, fast, light and rugged and doesnt take up any desk space at all. I couldnt afford the higher storage one but this one has saved a shed load of high quality images, speedily and safely. I will highly recommend this as Samsung user…Bye
I really like the size and weight of the Samsung T7. I use it with my iPad m1 using the lead provided. Don’t use other leads unless recommended for fast transfer of files. The drive is plug and play so easy to use. It shows up on your iPad as T7. I copy files from iPad and paste in T7. You can add new files and rename them. It’s so fast. It can get warm if transferring very large amounts of data. You don’t have to set up security unless you want to. If you do you need to setup on a computer using Samsung software included on drive. Would fully recommend.
I recently purchased the Samsung T7 Portable SSD with a 500 GB capacity, and I couldn’t be happier with my purchase. This little device has completely transformed my storage experience.
The speed of the T7 Portable SSD is nothing short of amazing. Transferring files is a breeze, thanks to its USB 3.2 Gen 2 interface. Whether it’s large files or small documents, everything transfers at lightning-fast speeds. I no longer have to wait around for my data to transfer, which has significantly improved my productivity.
The compact design of the T7 is a real game-changer. It’s so small and lightweight that I can easily slip it into my pocket or bag without any hassle. It’s the perfect companion for people on the go, allowing me to carry all my important files wherever I need to be. Plus, the sleek and durable exterior gives me confidence that my data is well-protected.
Setting up the T7 was a breeze. It seamlessly connects to my Windows device, and I didn’t encounter any compatibility issues. The included software is intuitive and straightforward, providing useful features like password protection and firmware updates. The peace of mind knowing my data is secure is invaluable.
The 500 GB capacity of this SSD is more than enough for my needs. It accommodates all my files, from photos and videos to important documents and work projects. If I ever need more storage, I know that the T7 comes in higher capacities as well.
In conclusion, the Samsung T7 Portable SSD is an incredible storage solution. Its lightning-fast speed, compact design, and reliable performance make it a must-have for anyone in need of portable storage. I highly recommend the Samsung T7 Portable SSD to anyone looking for a high-quality and dependable storage device.
Very compact design and no heating. Really liked it. I have installed Mac os catalina in my late 2013 iMac and the speed has really enhanced I can feel. My computer is like new
Compact and lightweight easy to use. What’s not to like. Very happy with this produc
Love it, it’s great for backing up drone footage and action camera’s when out on the field.
Small, light and durable. Uses USB-C, comes with both types of USB cable. It came already formatted for exFAT which allows individual files over 4GB, but I formatted it again anyway. I transferred nine 5GB files and the write speed was a pretty constant 37.5MB/s. If it goes wrong I will update this review.
I use this drive to save large image files generated by our microscope at work. My old spinning portable HDD would take maybe 5-10 secs to save an image and take about 2-3 minutes to convert them all to TIFF’s at the end of an imaging session. However with this drive saving the images and converting them to TIFF take no time at all. Saving the raw image is near instant! This has massively sped up my work flow and now I have the added safety of knowing the data is more secure due to the rugged nature of the T7 Shield! Really happy I decided to pull the trigger on this little drive. It somes with both the USB-a to USB-C cable and USB-C to USB-C cables. They’re a good length. My point would be that it would have been nice if a small pouch was included as a way of keeping everything together, but its a minor thing.
For an external ssd drive it’s very fast. I’m using it to run a 10 yer old iMac. 40 seconds to boot as opposed to 3 minutes. Programs open instantly no bouncing icons. Excellent drive.
Works straight out of the box on PC and Mac, no fuss, no problems, no issues. Mine’s been running constantly for a week with no complaints from me. Super fast and of course silent. Gets warm but not hot. And oh dear fellow consumer DO NOT be tempted by those fake cheap ones on Amazon – I’m not sure how they can get away with having them on sale still. Shocking. Anyway get this one instead.
I use this for my portable hard drive and it is perfect. I use multiple computers and I like to keep an offline version of my files. The write speed is very fast if you use the correct usb port. I do a lot of music production, so the files are quite often very big, this handled backing these up with no problem at all. Definitely recommend this.
This SSD is brilliant , bought it as external storage for my PS5 . Transfer speeds are brilliant , I transfered around 120GB in 6 minutes from internal PS5 storage to the SSD . PS5 will format it for you so it’s ready to use just have to go through storage in settings menu to do this
I need a device to back up photos stored on my SD cards. 1Tb is currently sufficient for the amount I shoot when travelling and I just wanted something small which would provide a reliable back up of my SD cards and allow me to upload files to ‘the cloud’ via a small USB-C hub and my iPad Mini. I reviewed a number of the industry standard SSD devices and the Samsung T7 Shield felt like the right option. Yes, it’s very slightly larger than the T7 – due to the ‘shield’ wraparound – but that provides a bit more protection in the event that I drop it. The device comes with USB-C to USB-A and, crucially, USB-C to USB-C connectors. I’m no genius with tech but, with a quick internet search, I worked out how to format the T7 Shield and set it up in just a few minutes. Highly recommended.
Amazong value for money… A fantastic product in a great form factor — seems super sturdy, too.
Works great with my Xbox Series X. Much faster loading of Xbox One and Xbox 360 and original Xbox backward compatible games compared to a traditional hard disk. Series S and X enhanced games require a special 1TB Seagate Xbox SSD. This is not the fault of the SamsungT7 but the way the Xbox Series X works. I would recommend tis product.
I absolutely love these Samsung SSDs, they’re as attractive and compact as you can get, work reliably, and have good thermal management and USB 3.2 speeds. Not much more to say, I’ve bought four of them now. Recommended.
Advice to new users, don’t bother with setup software on the drive – this is formatted and ready to go for Mac and Android (presume it is fine for Windows too). The trick to get it available on your Android phone – plug the SSD in to your phone then restart the phone – the SSD drive will then show up as available in your phone. For Mac it is just plug and play (an iMac with Monterey OS) – the drive shows up as soon as you plug it in, and you can transfer files immediately. Very neat, light, fast, but feels rugged. Excellent piece of kit!
After changing my desktop PC hard-drive to an SSD recently the difference is massive in terms of speed. So, I decided to buy a portable one to use for my backup solution and the difference is massive! My old 1Tb WD portable hard-drive is a good solution but can take 12+ hours to complete a backup. This does the job in less than 1 hour! Really simple to use and also check that it’s not fake via the Samsung magician software etc.
I’ve now decided to buy a 2nd one so I can use them in an alternative way for back-ups then I never have a solution that could let me down badly. Definitely recommend this – plus the seller was excellent with it sent out v quick via Prime and well packaged too. It does mean if you’re not in the postie can just pop it through the letterbox without casing any damage either.
Hopefully this review will help other with performance issues running VMs.
I have a 2017 iMac with a 1TB Fusion Drive and 16GB of RAM. Originally I used VMware to run Windows and started having performance issues (with Windows) around 2019. As part of a company change we moved to Parallels in 2021, however I continued to experiance slow Windows performance. The main issue I was experiencing was constant 100% Disk in Task Manager.
I Googled everything, tried numerous configuration ‘tweaks’ suggested by others all to no avail. Even Parallels have a knowledge base article tackling this but nothing they suggested worked.
By contrast, my MacBook Air run Windows beautifully with just 8GB RAM. The fact that it has an SSD drive has long had me thinking that the problem with my iMac could be the Fusion Drive, but interestingly little or no info can be found to confirm this and my ‘Mac’ runs fine, it’s only Windows I have issues with.
I eventually gave up and purchased a Samsung T7 500GB drive just to test my theory. Needless to say it has completely resolved my issue. Having migrated both Windows 10 & 11 VMs to the drive, both are now running about as fast as I could possibly want. I use a USB-C connection and read/write speeds are brilliant! Neat little thing as well. Let’s hope it has longevity
Let’s start with the negatives. It only goes up to 2TB and the price per TB is higher than other drives.
Having got that out of the way, my god it’s fast. Fast and stays fast. I had 5TB Segate USB 3 drive which I bought because it was quicker than my last solid state hard drive which lasted all of 38 seconds when connected to Mac Studio when it fried. Although the Segate was reliable the time it took for searches became a joke, as well as the time it took to save large files. Whereas the Mac would save at a blink of an eye, the Segate would generate the busy bar or pizza wheel. But this SAMSUNG T7 is as fast as the Mac solid state drive. There is absolutely no loss of speed. It sleeps instantly when task is finished at starts within a mili second. When I need more storage I will certainly buy another one.
This 2TB external hard drive is small and compact, making it a great option for those who need a lot of storage but don’t have much space.
The read and write performance is impressive, with average speeds of 869 MB/s for writes and 881.40 MB/s for reads when connected via USB-C.
These speeds are much faster than my previous external hard drive, which uses older 2.5 hard disk technology. While I haven’t checked the exact speeds, I’m happy as long as the drive is able to quickly transfer my backup files from my MacBook and has enough space for them.
I bought this SSD to improve the usability of my Photos Library on my MacBook M1, and it works well with Apple M1 and M2 products. While it’s too early to tell how reliable the drive will be, I’m confident in its quality since it’s a Samsung product.
Samsung drive has won numerious yearly awards for performance, price and size.
One potential downside is that the drive doesn’t come with any protective cover or case, so you might want to consider buying a travel case if you plan to take it on the go.
Additionally, the software that Samsung provides with the drive isn’t very useful and isn’t supported on Macs, although it does work well on Windows.
Overall, this is a great external hard drive and I believe it’s worth the price I paid (just over 142 on Amazon during a promotion).
Small and compact. Looks nice in blue and the price paid good for a branded 500 GB SSD. Transfer speeds seem brilliant in comparison to my last external hard drive which is old technology 2.5 hard disk, however, I have not looked at the exact speeds as it really does not matter that much to me. What’s important to me is that is really quick to transfer back up files from my MacBook and that it has the space i need to do so. One star off for the pretty useless software that Samsung provide to use with this as its really pointless and that it does not come with any form of protective cover/case. For the price it should in my opinion, however, I am still pleased and purchased a protective case separately from Amazon.
