I paired it with a bumper cate and I have it for my toddler. Battery life is great, touch screen works even when smudzy.
It is not very bright when using in direct sunlight but somehow expected for this pricerange.
Would have liked a few more bells and whistles like HDMI out but this is a samsung budget device
4G works well as does wifi and bluetooth
A few older games wont run but not much of a gamer so not an issue
Good for ebook reading
Camera OK but could use a few more megapixels (cant really moan at the price point)
yes the Phone part does work for voice calls
Happy custome
It has updated itself to Android 13.
Nice convenient size for sitting next to my pillow.
(This has been purchased for just one purpose)
Audible !!
No doubt I will find other uses for it too.
Like a second Phone or Browser.
And never forgetting – “It’s A Samsung”
Being slim, smooth, and quite large to hold securely in one hand, I would suggest a protective case with a palm strap.
Even with the protective case it still fits the space by my pillow.
I bought the SEYMAC case, because now and again, it is bound to slip between the bed and the wall.
The tablet is ideal for:
– Video conferencing.
– Watching movies, for example YouTube.
– Browsing the web.
– Online newspapers.
– eBooks.
– Audio books.
– Sky Go.
– Online radio.
– Listening to music.
– Keeping a blood pressure diary.
– Keeping a diabetes diary.
– Oh and last but not least eMails.
Pros:
– Good Battery life.
– Expandable storage.
– 3.5mm headphone jack.
Cons:
– Samsung bloatware.
– No screen mirroring option.
– The screen is a fingerprints magnet.
– A bit sluggish.
– No good for gaming.
– No getting started instruction manual (Full manual is only on the tablet)
– You can add a micro SD card for files and photos, but for NOT APPS.
It’s cheap and cheerful. As American say good bang for your buck.
Another plus point being expandable micro sd slot and a 3.5mm headphone jack (both of which seem to be going out of style on phones).
A decent low spec tablet for browsing the web, watching videos/streaming/youtube, listening to music or playing casual games.
If you are looking for a tablet that can do more than that then avoid. This tablet will struggle and frustrate you if you are looking to use this for productivity, work or gaming.
The screen quality / resolution is good, and for a small computer it has a surprisingly good battery life (of course depending on usage). It is not the most powerful processor in the world and won’t be able to handle multiple significant tasks simultaneously; but for the price you’re paying this is more than acceptable.
I personally bought this for my grandmother who is nearly 90. She is really pleased with it as her previous Samsung tablet was slow and outdated. She considers it easy to use and has had no major issues with it at all – very happy. If someone at her age can use it easily, I’m sure we call ca
Studied some options before choosing this one. I needed a tablet that is physically small but doesn’t compromise on screen quality or usability. Not interested in paying Apple prices so I wanted Android.
The screen is good, it’s large enough to use the keyboard easily and the text prediction/auto correct is very good when writing documents or emails. It took hardly any time to set up and has taken me little time to get used to it. I should have bought a case for it at the time – silly me! – but that’s been rectified now.
This tablet is excellent so far. Video streaming is good, sound quality is good through the speakers and touch response is fine for my purpose. I don’t want it for gaming so I can’t comment on that but general surfing is fine.
I haven’t used it for long periods yet but the battery life seems to be ok. The charger is a bit slow but luckily I have a faster one from another device so it’s not an issue for me.
Very pleased with the product!
Bought 3 of these to use at work, we use the for testing Android software, and they are excellent value for money.
These are not high end, and if you buy with highend, iPad expectations you’re going to be disappointed.
But, for a cheap and cheerful tablet for basic use, I think they are great. Screen resolution is not top end, but compared with some others in the same price bracket, they are good. (and higher than the industrial ones that our customer will use).
Battery life is very good and the 3 gig ram is pretty adequate unless you’re trying to use apps that push the graphics capabilities. If you want to game, or you want to browse with lots of open tabs, this is probably not the right tablet for you.
Sound is reasonable, and connected to headphones its above average, definitely better than my previous Lenovo tablet.
Wifi and bluetooth are reliable and the components used are decent ones.
I sold it for her and got this ‘Galaxy Tab A7 Lite’. It’s been a very good replacement for the old ‘Tab A’, although I don’t know what the ‘A7’ or ‘Lite’ patter is all about, at all; especially when it has an 8″ screen (god, Samsung, could you just simplify your device naming policy, out, please).
The cell phone, calling, functionality has been a boon for her, too: less devices to juggle around with and only one operating system for her to learn for phoning, shopping, browsing, email, etc.
I’m really amazed at how cheap these things are. Plenty of internal memory, too, so it shouldn’t go obsolete all that soon, as apps get bigger and more complex with all the updates, over time (that’s what killed the ‘Tab A’; it ran out of space).
I preferred the older, recent, versions of Android, though. It used to be simpler and more user friendly. We still find it preferable to using iOS, overall, though.
I am using it primarily as a book reader to replace the Nook. In addition, it is used for web browsing for reading news, as well as helping to solve puzzles and crosswords.
As a long time Linux user, I have a preference for non-proprietary/open source software, and therefore did not consider any offerings by Apple etc. I have installed Firefox and Chromium, and Aldiko (personal favourite for book reading). I downloaded the apps as APKs as I do not have a Google account and have no wish to have one, and I do not use social media. Alongside these apps, the only other one that I have installed is for my VPN, which I have set up to start automatically and run continuously.
For its price and performance, I believe it is very good value and does everything I want. It boots from cold to my home screen with my VPN auto-starting in about 50 seconds. From standby/screen off, it takes about 5 seconds including entering the passcode. Compared to a dedicated book reader, I feel that one of these is so much better value. I can use my preferred book reader app, as well as use it for other purposes. For me, the screen is perfectly good enough, it is clear and easy to read, nothing blurry about it. It is snappy, no pauses or hesitation switching between or while using apps, or any of the problems that some people seem to be reporting. Yes, one can always find a ‘superior’ tablet for just those ‘few extra pounds’, eg An Apple, other Samsungs etc, but where do you stop?. For 119, I believe this is very good value for what is does and I very pleased with it and have no regrets at all.
I have measured the screen/tablet dimensions that people may find useful (attached image).
Bottom line: what do you want? Glorious, fast, iOS? Then pay lots of money. But that choice is hard to use in sunlight. A text (ebook) reader? Then Kindle is the winner. Good outdoors and simple. Yes, but e-books do not stop at Amazon and the device is pre-historic in features. A cheap, Android device? No, Amazon with its emasculated “Fire” tablet does not qualify! Ah! How about Huawei? Yeah, but it’s basic and slow unless you spend Apple prices. Then it’s on to another, better, Android – maybe Samsung? Or, is this another expensive sub-optimum option?
So, what about the “cheap” Samsung Tab A7 Lite? Well, iOS it is not (weird Android graphics!), but the screen is not bad and the speed eats Huawei alive. It works as a reader, on any e-book format and it feels OK. Outdoors in sun? Still a no-no, but Kindle is a fallback. For a few more, it’s a lot better than Hauwei!
I could get to like this tablet. But Android – please can we have grown up graphics and colours?
Subsequent Edit: I’m not sure what the complaints elsewhere about the display screen are about. A photo is certainly brighter and colour less precise than my iPad Pro or iPhone X, but considering the price differences it is not bad! The face recognition, on the other hand, is dire! If I pick up my iphone it has recognised me as I raise it, ditto iPad. Samsung does not even allow me to wear my glasses and only works sporadically even without glasses. However, I originally gave 3 stars – considering how good value it is, I now think at 145 it really is worth 4.
