Feels like it will take a bit of a knock though I aim not to do this, works fine with my MacBook and Linux laptop too which is a bonus.
This is my offsite backup. I keep it in my vehicle so it gets constant small bumps and vibrations everyday over our country lanes. No problems at all, always works when I bring home and do back up.
Really well made, starts up on iMac quick, would recommend .
Well what a fab piece of kit and very easy to setup even on a windows machine !
Smaller than the photos suggest. Windows 11 wouldn’t recognise the drive at first. Had to initialise and format the drive before I could use it. Used AOMEI Partition Assistant for this, but there are plenty of other disk management/partition programs out there. Need at little bit of technical knowledge to set-up. Shame it wasn’t ‘plug-and-play’ out of the box. Initialised with 1 partition. Works fine after setting up. Supplied with 2 cables: USB C to USBC and USB C to USB A.
Only buy the disk from a reputated brand! don’t risk the loss of valuable data. This was a bargain buy!
Bought two on the same order – the manufacturing date is a month apart. The newer one is noticeably slower according to Blackmagic Design’s speed test.
The scope of the rainproofing is a bit bewildering, since the rubber surround can be removed easily (it pushes off), exposing the product information on one end, and a surprisingly loose fit end at the opposite side. It’s most certainly not waterproof and I question just how rainproof the case really is. It doesn’t feel as well constructed as the 8 Transcend drive’s I’ve been using for over a decade.
Fast read rates and strong. Comparing to SSD prices you can’t go wrong. Especially for just backing up photos for my photography
After dropping a portable hard drive just before a gig and having it fail during the night this was the way to go. Solid state HDD would have been the ideal solution but too expensive at the moment, so this suited my short term needs. It’s been reliable so far.
Super easy plug and play it gets hot but I guess that’s normal for any external hard drive but no issue did not had to install any software or needed to format it just worked as soon as you plugin on my MacBook Pro m1
I bought the 1TB version of this, a few years ago, and have been very pleased with it. Having acquired more photos, documents, since it seemed sensible to buy the 2TB version. So far, it’s worked very well. No complaints and would certainly recommend it to others.
Well and truly happy easy to send stuff over and backing this up. I will definitely get anther possibly the 8tb
Loverly compact little ssd. Used to store all photos on.
Great hard drive. I use it with Logic Pro to record music and I can work on this drive in real time. And it’s handling all back ups. Great buy.
Using it on a Mac computer and works straight out of the box, speeds are very good and haven’t had any issues with it, got the 5TB so not expecting to have storage space issues any time eve
Like the speed. Works well. No problems so far, but my pc does not permit the quickest transfer speeds advertised.
Great value for money device. Really robust and has great read write speed. Connected to the back of router and acts a local storage before being backed up to the web.
I use this all the time – portable and feels robust I try not to test that out. As ever, the weakness is the connection point. It is already showing dodgy connection. On off- problems. This connection is better than MicroB but disappointed that the robust hard drive design still has this Achilles heel!
I will only buy these for my storage now. They give confidence things won’t end up gone if it’s dropped.
Had seen an advert for the G Drive on Instagram & pondered on whether to get one or just continue to use OneDrove which I don’t really know much about.
Decided not to purchase at that time & then an Iomega external HD that I had recently decided that it didn’t want to work anymore, so I relented & purchased the G Drive.
I was very impressed by its size as it was smaller than an iPhone! I connected the USB & connected it to my Windows laptop & expected to see a message saying that it was installing, but did not see any such message.
I spent literally 3.5hrs plugging in, unplugging the drive, restarting my laptop thinking that was the issue even though it was delivered the same day as the drive (Easter Sunday).
Still didn’t work so initiated an online chat with Amazon Product Supportnto save me bouncing the drive off the wall! Amazon tell me they cannot help me! I have to call San Disk!
So I called San Disk this morning & spoke to a lovely Agent called Ramsey, who informed me that these Drives are factory formatted to only work with devices with Mac OS & that is why my laptop did not recognise the drive being connected.
He then emailed me some instructions on how to format the drivento work with Windows. I got slightly confused and asked if he could call me back to walk me through the steps to format it which he did.
He remotely accessed my laptop & gave me step by step instructions to format the drive & they worked, ao no need for me to return to Amazon for a redund
So thanks for nothing Amazon Product Support!
Just remember folks if you’re purchasing this for a device with Windows OS, you will need to format the drive before it can be used, there are no instructions with the drive to forewarn or show you how to do it. You will have to contact San Disk or buy an alternative device.
I bought one of these to store massive amounts of data, and had no problems at all with it; it worked straight out of the box with my Mac Pro. Consequently I bought another as backup, and it has performed equally well.
Good solid hard drive specially for travel
For window you have to format first which i didn’t knew
Not easy to forma
Bought on a very good deal from Amazon. A big problem though with the 2021 MacBook M1x, which refused to unmount the disk during formatting, even after using Terminal scripts. Reverted to older iMac, formatting completed easily in less than a minute. Now working, it feels like a quality product.
It’s quick 200gb takes about 30 min from my mac to this via usb c I wasn’t expecting it to be so fast
My lacie usb c tough hardrive takes at least double that
I’ll be buying more of theses when this one is filled
