This is one of the recommended MicroSD cards for use on Steam Deck and with good reason. I’ve been burned in the past with a few cheaper SD cards not being recognised by the (notoriously fussy) steam deck but the Sandisk Ultra range doesn’t need any preformatting or messing around. Just insert the card, tap on the Micro SD icon that appears in the task bar, select “Format” from the menu and wait a while for your deck to check the card and test it (which passes first time) then format it, instantly putting it into your storage pool. Games installed directly to the card don’t run that much slower than they do from the internal drive, so unlike other solutions and games systems, it’s actually worth going down this route rather than invalidating your warranty by trying to install a SSD in your Steam Deck the ‘hard’ way.
There are other cards out there with more capacity / cheaper, but this is a good balance of both and so far it’s the only SD card that’s worked first time for me on the Steam Deck.
A note for anyone using them to expand storage on a kids Kindle, it will likely come up with an error or fault if you try to do it from the kids profile, so before fitting the SD card, navigate to the parent profile, enter the settings then enter storage, this will then let you format the SD card and you’re sorted.
