Very fast speeds, fantastic for being a BOOT drive. Games load very quickly, does not overheat and great value for 1TB storage
I was surprised. I expected improved my old laptop performance with not too much hope and it was better than I expected.
Works well. Computer boots much faster, some operations are faster and it is quieter. Actually silent when the fan stops. All as hoped for. No issues with installing, at least none attributable to the disk.
How does one assess a hard drive for Comfort?
I bought this to take my SSD’s up to 24TB. Needed more room for data and games. Yeah i know first world problems right? Well it works alongside my Samsung 870 QVO drives and my Sabrent rocket nvme’s and it’s more or less the same performance as the Samsung drives. If you need one, buy one, you won’t regret it!
I noticed a brutal difference in games and file transfer, amazing!
I make (regular) clones of my “C” Drive – Just in case …
Now I have a 500GB “C” I needed same size for clone.
I have been using SanDisk for years now so was very happy to have another one.
Just slotted it into the USB – HDD/SSD Drive Hub and let Acronis do its “thing” to make the clone.
If I need to swap the SSD in to recover my computer I know it will work without any problems.
This must be my eighth SanDisk nerver had a problem with any of them
Don’t know why Amazon reviews asked me to rate the comfort of this item but I’ll give it a five star. Havent considering kiestering it yet but I guess we’ll see…
Apps load super fast, for example Premiere Pro is now usable.I can also use Microsoft’s Photos app and all the photos load incredibly quickly even if scroll quickly through everything whereas before if I tried this it was slow and would often just crash.
It was really easy to copy over ~1tb of data using Macrium Reflect, there were no issues and all the data is on the drive and then just replacing the HDD with the SSD in my laptop.
I’ve now had it for 2 months and have had no issues. I’ve attached two photos of a speed test of the new Sandisk 4tb SSD and my previous 2tb seagate HDD. You can see it’s basically an order of magnitude improvement in read/write speeds across the board.
Highly recommended, especially as there was an amazing discount on this so I got it for 319.
Makes full use of the SATA III connector in the system, unlike the old SATA II Spinning hard drive Apple provided. SSD provides 550MB Read 530MB Write compared to 103MB Read/Write with the old drive.
I really like SanDisk Ultra SSD’s and tend to use them in most system upgrades. Reasonably priced for a 1TB SSD, compared to some other brands.
Whenever I need memory or storage mediums, I use SanDisk or WD. Both my work and personal cellphone have SanDisk cards in. All of my card readers are SanDisk readers and I’ve never been let down.
Just upgraded my 2 Intel NuC’s NVMe drives and again, all WD black edition 1TB drives.
Now I purchased this for my laptop, (as the previous drive was only 128GB) and again, superb performance, bravo SanDisk!!
I have noticed the same with usb flash drives.
Other than that it works well.
Needed to hook up the sampler to my linux laptop to format the disk for the sampler to recognise it, but no big problem, and doesn’t affect my positive view of the produc
Having wasted a lot of money on other ssds that proved not working for cloning (Samsung 8TB, Crucial 2TB, Western Digital 4TB), at last I see something that works. Acronis paid licenced version took a long time to clone, well worth the effort, the result seems working fine as the original disk (cloned). I hope it will last. The 4TB model is next to try, although is is improportionally expensive for the capacity offered-it should had been just twice the price of the 2TB and not 150% more.
My advice is to work with cloning software that sees all brands of disks, not the freeware that works only with specific brands. This freeware will not work with other manufactirers’ disks and will be difficult to remove it once installed. The Acronis Western Digital ruined my original drive, reinstallation of my paid Acronis older software was impossible, had to reclone the drive from the copy.
Impression: go for the 2TB version with trust, if you want more capacity make sure you get a guarantee that you will be able to return the disk for refund if it will not work.
Took forever to boot and get to a usable state
Doesn’t do much a bit on office and web browsing so didn’t see the point in replacing it
For very little money the laptop has gone from painfully slow to good
I have a six year old HP Pavilion 15 Gaming laptop that, up until lockdown, was used occasionally (probably 5-6 days per month). Since March 2020 I’ve been using the laptop 5 days a week for 8 to 10 hours a day. No wonder that when we got to September 2020, it was running super slow: it would take minutes to start up (felt like forever), it would crash when trying to open some programs (even Word) or just moving from window to window. It was so slow that when typing it would take a couple of seconds for the letters to show on the screen 🙁
At this point, I started browsing for a new laptop and after seeking a friend’s advice on what brands are known for performance, he suggested just replacing my memory for an SSD one, as my HP laptop had good components (intel core I7). I was sceptical that a new SDD memory disk would help, but if I could get a little more time off my laptop without having to spend huge amounts of money, I was going to try it.
The delivery was prompt – as per usual with Amazon purchases, and the installation wasn’t too hard. I followed a YouTube video on how to swap memory on an HP laptop (even though it wasn’t the same model as mine, it was pretty similar). If you’re not comfortable in doing this yourself, then please find professional help as you could brake your laptop.
Three months as passed since installing the SSD disk and my laptop is performing as a brand new laptop: starts in seconds (which is AMAZING), no slow time when navigating around windows or opening programs or even when I type. There’s nothing to fault! Super happy that I followed my friends advice, I’m sure this old HP laptop will last a while now.
I needed this for a couple of video games to have quick loading times and to store video files to edit on.
Which after a couple of months use, I now load into single player games much quicker than my hard drive and can move files around pretty quick.
I would recommend to anyone looking for a good quality SSD.
The slightly lower score I have given to ‘Ease of Installation’ is nothing to do with the SSD. Once I got access to the old drive, installation was a doddle but HP have not made it easy to access the drive and battery on their later Laptops.
If you upgrade your PS4, remember to have a USB stick formatted to Fat32 and /PS4/UPDATE as a directory structure. Some guides miss the PS4 folder.
In the end it wasn’t quite as esy as I’d hoped to complete everything, but that was largely down to the limitations of HP laptops rather than the SSD itself. The recommended/bundled cloning software (Acronis) was not very good to be honest and wouldn’t work, so I found another free program online called Macrium Reflect that did the job brilliantly.
So, the intention was then to install the new drive in the CD/DVD slot using a caddy – this all fitted perfectly, but the HP issue is that you can’t easily change the boot drive in the BIOS so there was no way to get laptop to boot from the new drive.
In the end, through lots of research and YouTube videos, I found out how to open up the laptop (not exactly obvious!!), replaced the HDD with the new SDD and once I’d tested that it would all boot up OK, I put it all backtogether, installed the HDD into the DVD Drive Caddy and deleted the Windows OS from it. Absolutely brilliant! Love it when a plan comes together!!
My laptop has now got a new lease of life. It now takes less than 30 seconds to boot from off – it used to take more like half an hour – then another few minutes before programs were ready to be used! All program and system files are on the SDD and the old HDD is for data storage. It’s an upgrade that’s really worth considering before you give up and buy a new computer.
Turned it on and the difference was instant. It is now no longer a chore to use my MacBook. I’m one happy bunny.
Still early days for SSDs so only 1TB and not the cheapest but it is noticeably quicker than my old HDD when using and during boot up and shutdown.
My experience is that SSDs are much less reliable than spun HDDs. The SSD is faster in use but it will take a long time to be worth the 35+ hours it tool to get it up and running. I had no choice but to get a new drive and the product does work. However, unless you have a real need I would say it isn’t worth the hassle of an upgrade.
Chrome, Outlook etc all load in just over a second.
I would, however, advise that you purchase the full version of EaseUS Todo or similar software and select OS clone (not the same as normal cloning) this will allow you to Clone a current version of your OS from an existing SSD or HDD.
Also on some motherboards, it can be difficult to activate these SSD’s, it can be trial and error to get the BIOS to recognise the SSD, but when you do, just go into a partition manager and activate and partition/format the SSD. From then on the OS will see it.
1.Upgrading old laptops – gives an amazing boost over the traditional ide drives. I remove the old drives and clone them to the new SSD. I then just pop the new disc in and extend the drive to use all available space.
2.High Speed storage in existing pcs.
3.And as Scratch discs for our resident artists using Photoshop and other Adobe products.
There are lots of other uses I am sure but I can only speak for these.
The server itself is quite old (i7 3770, 16gb DDR3 and had a 1tb HDD). Upgrading to this SSD has definitely helped speed it up. I also have a 2tb version of this same drive I’m using in my laptop as a data drive and it performs as expected in terms of speeds when transferring to and from a usb3 SSD external drive.
Definitely recommend as SanDisk are competitive on price, especially when waiting for an Amazon deal like I did
I used the Inateck SSD Mounting Bracket to mount it in a HDD bay rather than the recommended floppy disk bay as they’re both obscured by cabling.
I then used EaseUS Todo Backup Free 9.2 to clone my existing C: drive, a 320GB Seagate, I swapped the SATA cables over then restarted with my new C: drive, a quick trip in the BIOS to set the new boot priority and W10 “fixed” the master boot record.
I’m no a beginner but I’m no expert either, so the total time taken was a little under an hour.
Didi it make a difference? Oh yes, my boot time has halved.
Bought this SSD and a couple of tools (make sure you have the T6 Security bit/screwdriver as I’ve noticed a lot of tool sets don’t have it) and followed a straight forward youtube video. Just take your time, be careful with the tiny connectors and its quite straightforward.After 30-40 minutes it was installed and honestly, its like owning a new computer. Boot up time has gone from several minutes (if lucky) to 30-40 seconds. Small updates in a few minutes rather than one half hour. It runs both Photoshop and Lightroom smoothly with no issues since installation.
I honestly can’t recommend this cheap but massive capability upgrade enough.
I just did a speed test (with 400Gb free) and am getting speeds of 400MB/s read and 420MB/s write which is why I’ve deducted one star from this review.
I’ve had it for about 6 weeks now and have found the drive totally reliable and able to cope with the strain of rendering, playback and exporting using Premiere Pro without any issues.
So I’m very happy with my purchase and will probably buy another one soon.
I used Acronis disk image to clone the old drive onto a 500gb USB drive which worked without a hicup. The laptop could only boot from a CD drive as an alternative to the hard disk and not a USB drive as its so old but Acronis then created a boot CD for me. The boot from the CD started a small version of Acronis ‘clone disk’ which then copied the previously cloned USB copy of the old HD to the new disk. This took 2.5 hours. Clone disk initially failed with an error saying it required a linux boot disk to continue, which was what the CD boot was !? But without changing anything I pushed ‘OK’ and the process completed. It took a long time but was otherwise painless.
I hope the disk lasts OK but I’ll take Acronis disk images of the new disk in case it doesn’t.
The laptop is now more responsive to use than some new ones I’ve used. 125 well spent!
I’ve not started a roll-out program and have been updgrading all workstations to SSD. This is a really easy process with 3rd party software (I use Acronis True Image on a bootable USB drive), you simply shut down, add the new SSD, boot off a USB drive and click the source (original) drive and the target (SSD) and let it do it’s thing. When it’s done you simply power down, remove the USB drive, remove the old drive and reboot. Done. Super fast boot times, everything exactly as you left it, no need to reinstall windows or apps, etc. Once you’re confident you’re clone to SSD has been successful you can either keep the old drive as an snapshot bootable backup or in my case I leave them in, format them and set them as a backup destination for daily windows backups.
SSD’s are by far the “best bang for your buck” to rejuvenate a tired or older computer.
Reasonable price for a brand name product. It does the job well and is fast for data transfer. I don’t see speeds at anything like those in the spec, but I didn’t expect to as other elements of my computer will limit what you see in use. It is as fast as the other SSD that I have in the same machine, so I’m happy.
I wanted a fast drive for image processing so I grudgingly forked out for this drive but I still think these SSD’s are way too expensive and think manufacturers are holding the price artificially high. Its time to lower the prices and up the capacities SanDisk!!!!! You will sell more drives in the end.
The “SanDisk Ultra 3D SSD 500GB up to 560MB/s Read / up to 530MB/s Write” uses the latest NAND technology that should result in slightly improved access times over the previous generation. Consideration was given to several capacities with those of around 500 GB considered the best suited to present-day and future needs. If cloning another drive a USB-to-SATA cable or adapter-dock will be required; SanDisk do not include the cable within the box but the other SSD manufacturers follow suit. Some have an self-branded adapter cable option but there are generics and docks that function equally well. SanDisk also leave out the 7.5-to-9mm adapter plate that some include; if required, you will need to purchase one on-line.
Cloning a system drive is not always simply copy-and-go as Windows 10 and the UEFI sub-systems it uses influence the possible outcome although drives used under MacOS and Linux do not share the problem; it needs specialist software to overcome the restrictions and SanDisk provide a download link for their software solution as do others. For data drives, the same software will perform but there are simpler, but not necessarily faster, methods.
The first example was set to clone from its predecessor but the process twice reported ‘Hardware Errors’ at various points on this, the destination drive, before apparently completing. However, once installed and the PC required to boot, there were endless POST errors and a failure to boot; that was totally not expected. Using a partition manager to clear the drive and restarting the cloning process produced the same errors and consequences. The SSD it was intended to replace boots normally, if still rather slowly. That originally supplied SanDisk was returned DOA and a second example obtained in hope and anticipation of a good outcome. That one worked perfectly out-of-the-box.
Whether or not the SanDisk Ultra 3D drives consistently out-perform others was unknown but some current competing models are known to be surprisingly fast to cold boot and they need not be the most expensive or from the best-known brands; one fitting that description and purchased by a family member on price alone to resolve a nearly full SSD majorly out-performed every other SSD seen or used, including this on its first few boot times which are reducing. As a long-established manufacturer of memory products, and it is SanDisk’s flash drives for which they are best known, they should have the experience and know-how to get the best from their ranges whereas most competitors need to cope with a switch in technologies from hard drives to solid state.
Although initially fast but not THAT fast, it had over about a week shown small improvements in boot-up times possibly as a result of some file or structural optimisation and is now about as fast as the originally installed SSD.
It was as simple as cloning the drive (unfortunately you don’t get any software with this drive) and swapping them over.
It used to take 5 minutes to boot up and have the laptop in a useable state, now it takes a few seconds plus everything opens up a hell of a lot quicker (office apps, games etc).
I’ve got a slightly older 480GB SanDisk Ultra II drive in my desktop which is good, but this little baby seems faster than that.
I highly recommend this drive.
I decided in advance that I was simply going to clone my existing SSD using Acronis True Image 2018 (not included) because my Windows 10 installation was not that old, working well and had many applications already set up. I figured why start from scratch unless you absolutely have to? Cloning the 480GB drive over to this new 1TB model in Automatic mode took approximately 26 minutes which was fantastic to witness. I made sure both drives were operating on SATA III connectors for the transfer. Once the clone was complete I simply removed the old drive and then booted back into my identical Windows 10 profile. It couldn’t have been easier.
That’s it really. The entire process of picking up the Amazon package to starting to use the drive took no more than an hour. Startling really but solid state technology just seems to keep going from strength to strength. Worst case scenario I was expecting a minor drop in performance as it is clearly twice the size of my old drive but I didn’t really notice anything at all. Responsiveness and load times seem as good as they ever were but then again I don’t use benchmarking software.
It is definitely a little costly but well worth it if you can spare the funds. From a practical point of view as per usual there is nothing in the box but the drive itself so I would recommend ordering any cables or a caddy with it if you need those.
The only downside for me now is figuring out what to do with my old 480GB SSD as it still has a lot of life left in it! This is my second SanDisk SSD and my experience has been nothing but flawless so far… I can see myself repeating this process with another SanDisk model in the early 2020s.
