So far so good. The Sculfun S9 arrived really quickly and very well packaged. The assembly instructions were super clear so even this novice could set it up unaided and without wanting to chuck it out of the window at any stage. BUT my search engine will not let me access the Sculpfun website as it says it is not secure. No option even to override that. So there doesn’t seem to be any way I can get the User Instruction Manual, which is really frustrating. Has anyone else had the same problem and found a way round it?

Well packed, unloaded all the parts and matched them to the parts list. Easy to follow instructions. Assembly fairly quick especially with all the tools provided.
Test run proved it was connected correctly and working. Using LaserGRBL software I was able to start learning all about the art of laser engraving/ cutting. Unfortunately my trials on waste off uts of ordinary ply yielded a lot of smoke/ fumes! This is now sorted having bought specific birch ply for laser engraving/ cutting.
It has taken quite a lot of work with the software to produce patterns involving engraving and cutting – such as Christmas tree ornaments. However, have had some good results with patience and practice. Still working on how to trace patterns and cut lines more easily with the software I have in my library.
Easy to assemble, and links up with Lightburn easily too. Seems to cut well and was a bargain at the price.
However!……..
I was getting wavy lines on left to right cuts??? It turned out the bolts holding the top Y axis weren’t properly tight and the Laser module was wobbling slightly across it’s travel.
A few seconds to tighten them up and the problem was solved!
Great piece of kit for a beginner, easy to put together and use. I took delivery in mid July and have used it extensively since, both as an engraver and to cut thin wood using Lightburn software. Power supply has packed up today after just over two months, will order a replacement and hope nothing else has been damaged.
This is my first laser cutter and after hour’s watching youtube and reading hundreds of reviews I was more confused than ever. I decided to go for the Sculpfun S9 because it appeared to be as good as anything else in the reviews. I’m highly delighted with it. Cuts 10mm soft wood and 6mm ply (multiple passes with both materials. Really good at burning pictures into ply and cutting card stock. The only hold back is my imagination.
I cannot speak highly enough of this machine. The price, the quality, the accuracy! Even the instructions. The best assembly instructions I’ve ever used for anything! If this is the entry level machine for sculpfun, then I can only imagine what the step ups are capable of.
One thing you don’t see often is how it cuts. It cuts through oak (OAK!) without breaking a sweat. So far tested up to 8mm. That’s also without the air assist which I’ve just ordered. Honestly, this is the best purchase I’ve made for my business in a long time. 5* for every aspect.
I’d been looking for a laser engraver/ cutter for some time but didn’t want to commit to something I hadn’t used before but finally took the plunge and bought the S9
Easy set up and the software is a breeze to use.
Hoping to expand my experience now and hopefully make a few pieces for family and friends
What a great product. Was easy to set up. As eveyone who buys a laser burn, says. they is a large amount of smoke. great bit of kit. Need Lightburn to get the best out of this tool. so facter in another 50 or less if you go to lightburn web site. Load of video on Youtube. It’s a fixed focus machine. 20 mm using the supplied bit of tooling. love it.
The laser was extremely well packed, and each component was numbered. I’m not one for instructions and had the help of my son to set it up.
So far I have created a number of objects and am enjoying experimenting with it. With the help of a social media group I have overcome some hiccups ( of my own making) and look forward to creating some more wonderful things.
I really like this item. The ruler lines really help especially if you can setup your work surface so 0 x 0 is at your homing position.
My only critique is that the frame isn’t totally solid and the rivets can give a little possibly putting the frame out of square.
Absolute must for the protection of your work surface.
It has a large footprint but fits inside my Creality Falcon 10w very well. Creality’s own one is smaller than this one so it made sense to go for this one. I’ve found no issues with it and it helps enormously with cutting materials as it lifts the material off the base. There’s also a steel plate under the honeycombe to stop the laser burning the base
Does exactly what it was designed to do. Saves workstation from laser burn. Excellent product.
