Very easy to set up. I just wanted something to back up my 60,000+ photo collection and this was perfect for it. Just plugged it in to my USB and dragged and dropped the files in. Very happy with it.
I bought a cheaper one from a competitor and the third time of use it failed and I spent countless hours trying to recover the data. Better to pay up for the best.
So far it is easy to use, fast and reliable.
Good hard drive, feels well made, does a good job
I’ve purchased number of these devices over the years and use them to archive data. I purchase a WD brand last year but what a faff to set up! WD embedded firmware made it hard to format on a Mac. I decide to try the Seagate brand and what a difference. Dead easy to set up, already formatted exFAT. You won’t be disappointed.
Plug and play with PS5 it asks you to format the harddrive then it connects and works and has so much space.
I got the white/blue 5tb drive it matches the ps5 console and comes with a wire to connect to the back of the console.
If you have an old hdd and want to transfer all the games straight to the new hdd you have to transfer all the games to console storage and internal ssd then transfer them to the new drive.
I tryed transfering hdd to hdd and it ones sees one drive at a time so put all your games on the ssd and console built in storage prehand.
Not much to it. It works and hasn’t let me down.
Just Bought this because The Designers made such a Brilliant Series on Seagate makes you wanna Buy All these Shades
Straight out of the box, it works on both Macbook and PC without any reformatting, without any installation. You just plug it to the mac or to the pc and that’s it. It doesn’t even have a power cable. Just the USB.
I connected it to the macbook first, then switched it to the PC. Now I have a folder for Mac and a folder for PC on it. And it’s so small and light, I can move it between computers as if it’s a USB stick.
When I was transferring files from my WD to this one (via PC on USB3), it was crazy fast.
It also works fine via a USB hub. The only negative is that the USB cable is very short. Just 35cm.
Where it says “start here”, you don’t really have to click on that to start. That’s for the product registration. Seagate put that “start here” to get you to register the product with them. You don’t need that to use the Hard Disk. But you need it before you can activate the free Photoshop.
I see various numbers for the Photoshop free subscription. Mine came with 4 months.
These brilliant bits of kit are fantastic for most uses that require extra storage, I’ve recently bought the 5TB version to add to my 2TB version for my Xbox One S console. They work perfectly fine & have a high writing speed (for transfering content only) Simply insert them into the rear USB port(s) or via a USB 3.0 hub that is inserted into the rear USB port & away you go. They’re made well, perform perfectly & are quiet. You want reliable external Xbox One storage then buy one of these.
Excellent little hard drive, great value and works as it should. Literally plug in and play even on Mac. Great as some cheaper alternatives are not formatted for Mac. Sturdy enough to be thrown in my bag while travelling and withstanding airport security chucking bags around.
It is simply a case of plugging it in an playing. It is as easy to transfer files to this media as to transfer them within the computer’s own memory. It is much more reliable than cheaper “solid state” media which always seem to develop memory problems. It is fairly pricey though.
I already own a 4tb Seagate. But it’s old. The main trouble is the connector at the battery ‘goes’ a bit and becomes loose with pluging in/out. So leave if you can. (I have to plug into various sources) I corrected the old one with rubber bands! This new one is perfect. Faster then the old model I have. Smaller and sleeker. Also looks good in the metal casing. Biggest down side is lentgh of lead provided. If I were you, buy a separate (maybe 3 meter) cable at the same time.
Works well so far but it’s a tad noisy. Overall, it seems to be good value for money.
As the standard amount of memory comes as standard with new laptops this is the perfect solution.
Why pay for Cloud storage with the risk of being hacked when you can have your own portable storage that is totally secure.
Easy to set up as plug and play. This can be used not only as an external drive but also for daily backups so even the stuff you have stored internally is safe.
The only negative I can give for this is that the lead could be a bit longe
It was almost too easy to do a complete restore from a failing machine to a brand new Mac Mini. The only way I could confirml that the process had started was when I felt the device humming slightly when I touched it. The upload was about 2 hours (for 60 GB) and everything switched off automatically when it was finished. I also had much of my data stored in iCloud, so I made a list of all my passwords before I started.
Perfect for what it is, a portable, USB-powered external hard drive. Windows formatting reduces the capacity as expected, works to expected speeds copy to or from.
This is my third device of this series, a silverblue, red and now black model. None has failed on me so far, over two years of on average daily use.
Arrived in very good time but was not handed to me, shame on Amazon delivery who constantly lie about deliveries. Fed with the fact you can’t complain direct about this but hey ho. Anyway if you haven’t worked it out yet, its a seagate portable external drive and its does what is says. Time will tell if it fails in the future.
This came well packaged in a retail box and inside you get the Hard Drive, USB 3.2 Gen 1 Cable, and Quick Start Guide.
All my other large external hard drive are Seagate and I use the free “Toolkit” back-up software, so it did make sense to get another Seagate drive when I was after another was. Particularly as they offer the 2-year data recovering plan.
I went for the Blue but to be honest, I was not that fussed about colour, although it does look quite smart. It is quite compact, given the fact it is a 5TB drive. However, although it states it is a 5TB, the usable space is actually 4.54TB.
The reason for getting this drive was purely as a back-up drive for all my DVDs and Blu-Rays, which I have and am still in the process of digitising onto an existing drive. That way I can access then across all our smart devices in the house. In doing this, the last thing I wanted to do was lose it all. Once I have finished doing this, this drive will be stored away safely in a fireproof safe. So, physical size was important. I was not overly fussed about transfer speeds.
For me, this drive is ideal. It offers a decent amount of storage in a reasonable compact shell.
I hope you found this review & photos interesting, informative, and useful. Thanks for reading.
NB. For a sizing guide, squares in photos are 1cm.
I think all external hard drives are created equal really. I bought this brand because of the software which automatically backs up you main hard drive on a daily basis which it seems to do. Some times it reports that it does not have access to the files (which it does) but on the whole seems ok.
Bought two of these for media to plug into smart TVs and another to use as an external drive for my Mac Mini. I needed to do the media files on a Windows machine in NTFS but the Mac just recognised it and started using it without an issue. No problems so far and I will update this review if I get any. It is small – like a half pack of playing cards. The connection cord is a little short, if I was being picky but the price is excellent and the performace is great for my needs. No issues with playing the media and none with the Mac or Windows connections.
i nearly passed on this because of the dated USB port, but I’m glad i didn’t; it’s a small (but thick) HDD in a very durable enclosure that i have taken apart and have thoroughly researched for fun (once you open it, you will damage the enclosure cosmetically, but it’s not for that anyway). Inside is a lot of shock absorbing tabs, some sort of film to protect the HDD potentially from spills, and a very compact but effective HDD to USB converter that works on other SATA drives.
the HDD itself is fast and durable and the 5TB model was totally worth it for 85 at the time.
Well, it is a disk, a 2.5 inch HDD from Seagate: One Touch HDD (1707) with 5TB space. As large as it gets in the 2.5 inch portable range, it has been the maximum for quite some time, and it is unlikely that disks in this form factor (SFF) will get any bigger. New paradigms of storage will be required to go higher.
Have used Seagate disks for years and never had a problem. This one, however, was terribly loud: the mechanics sound strained, it is not quite right. So it went back, Amazon just took it back no questions asked, as it was within the first 14 days. New one arrived the next day, quiet as a mouse. All good.
One star off for the imperfect one. Otherwise, well it is what it is: a disk with max. 2.5 inch capacity. If you need, then get it. Mostly, though, smaller disks can do and with the USB-C disk prices going down, perhaps these disks are soon a thing of the past. As long as they last, however, they are just fine. Have some that are 4-5 years old and still going strong with lots of input/output.
This product although still only USB 3 runs faster than any of my previous drives including the official Microsoft seagate drive. It comes with an aluminium casing and is available in a multitude of colours. The drive is ever so easy to use and when you look at the price (I paid 80 for mine) you just can’t beat the bang for your buck. I would highly recommend this drive as a backup drive for any system Windows Mac or even games console. It is fast silent and Large. One of those purchases where you feel you actually got a bargain.
Bought this drive so I can store all of my photos in one place. Excellent piece of kit and does exactly what it says on the tin! Great value for money but I can’t understand why the black one was twenty quid more than the red one? Of course I bought the red one! Easy to use and now I can take my photos to relatives and bore the pants off them! Only one con, I was watching the map for my delivery and was told you are next, then I get a text to say ‘Your parcel has been delivered, it was handed to the recipient’. I went to the door and it was leaning against the door and had definitely NOT been handed to me. I’m lucky because I can, I think, trust my neighbours, but to leave a high value item outside the front door and not even ring the bell, I think is a bit lazy on the part of the driver!
