Enjoy using a prime lens that has a wide angle shot in a low F1.4 that does fantastic in low light. Sigma have some of the best APS-C lens you can choose by. Highly recommended
I literally use this lean for 70% of my work. Absolutely amazing at this price, well done Sigma!
My initial reason for buying this lens was for wide angle portraits taking advantage of the f1.4 aperture, however, I’ve found it to be an incredibly versatile lens for landscapes, architecture, and videography – the latter being the biggest surprise. I’m using it on a Sony A6500 and the quality of pictures and video is outstanding. It is quite a big lens but it feels solid and is very well made. A great addition to any photographers arsenal.
This little lens is absolutely fabulous crisp image very sharp. For the money it’s a steel.
Great lens, build quality and packaging was a well done. The seller clearly understood the products was fragile. The lens is great for my real estate and event work!
Wide open, this lens is great in low light with really, really shallow depth of field if you can actually keep that aperture wide open….
I mean it’s possible to have one or both my shoulders out of focus while my face is IN focus – tripod shot from maybe 1.5M away.
After reading all the reviews before buying, I’m so glad I bought this lense. Everything about it oozes quality, the autofocus is sublime, the bokeh you get is majestic, low light performance is too good for words.. if you only buy one apsc prime lense, then you have to buy this one. It hasn’t been off my A6000 body since I bought it.
I Love This lens.
However I am not a camera guy so I’m not sure of all the technical details.
What I will tell you is that this lens is a monster in low light because of its f1.4.
Also, it gets quite sharp too! Now on an APSC its more like a 22-24mm but it still gets decently wide enough for you to be using for vlogging.
It doesnt have any zoom capabilities obviously as its a prime lens and its quite chunky – not as portable as one would hope. It has an electronic focus ring – as well as autofocus which is really fast and snappy. There’s no stabilsation either, but catalyst browse will usually sort that out for you in post.
It’s perfect for streaming, vlogging, and general content creation.
Really happy with it.
Great lens and value for money. However, it’s very noisy at f1.4-1.8. Might be an issue if you do videography.
Initially I was considering a new camera as I do want to upgrade it but after research decided as on a budget I’d get more benefit from a lens instead.
I film in a small room and made the mistake a few years ago to buy a 50mm that I couldn’t use due to lack of space so I knew I wanted something smaller than that. I also wanted a larger aperture as I wanted to achieve a blurry background something I couldn’t get on a 3.5f kit lens.
Money is tight so initially went for the cheapest option – a manual 35mm 1.7f manual lens. I bought it on eBay for 45! The reality was using it for YouTube was really frustrating. I struggled to see peaking on my tiny monitor and I couldn’t get live view on my computer with my camera model. I film talking head and tutorials. I did a dry run thinking it was on focus and it was out of focus the whole time!
So decided to bite the bullet and pay for this lens! It was a real investment for me and seemed like a lot to spend on a lens. I’ve had it a few hours and now I know it was totally worth it!
I had a practice go today and the first thing I noticed was how much clearer the image was than my kit lens! With so much clarity I dyed my hair quickly to remove my greys lol!!!! Auto focus was good. There was a tiny bit of hunting once but overall very good. I loved how much nicer the picture looked generally and the colours the lens produced.
Two things that I don’t love but neither are deal breakers. The first thing is the noise that the camera picks up from autofocus. If you rely on your camera audio with little to no editing this would be a deal breaker but using the denoise filter in premiere pro I was able to remove this noise. I’ve taken the opportunity to upgrade my audio through and have just purchased a yeti mic. The other negative is that there’s no stabilisation in the lens. This is particularly a problem for me as I have mild tremors but the camera will be used on a tripod anyway so no big deal. I may invest in a gimbal at a later date but no urgency
So I give it 4/5 stars and I’m very happy with my new purchase! I hope this helps someone as I didn’t see many reviews on here from a video pov.
I must say this is probably the best lens in my collection to date.
Very crisp picture quality
Great smooth Bokeh
Focusing ring is very smooth and feels high end.
I bought this lens as it has been recommended by so many professionals out there and I am yet to be disappointed.
The 1.4 f stop allows to take some fantastic night shots.
10/10 would recommend this product for the price paid!
Even when punching into a wide angle shot there is not a lot of degradation in the photo.
Bought this to go on a A6000 to record some video tutorials. It does not disappoint. Provides a bokeh effect way beyond anything you can achieve with the stock lens.
The autofocus is also excellent. As an amateur it seemed like a bit of an indulgence for my use case but it has made my videos look 50x more professional.
If you are on the fence, and wondering if it will make much difference over a stock kit lens, I suggest going ahead!
There’s no doubt the build quality is excellent and focus operation is beautifully smooth, but it is a large and relatively heavy lens on the a6400.
I tested the lens against my existing lenses; the little kit lens (Sony 16-50 f3.5-5.6) and also the Sony 18-135 f3.5-5.6, by shooting a series of varied photos (using tripod) and then comparing centre/edge details in each shot. I was hoping to see a clear improvement with the Sigma.
What I found was that, yes the Sigma was sharp and produced lovely colours, but so too were the images from both the Sony lenses. In fact there was absolutely no discernible difference. All my shots were jpegs at f8 (as I normally shoot at this aperture) which does of course flatter most lenses. Wide open results may well have favoured the Sigma, but that is not relevant for my use.
Naturally I returned the Sigma lens.
So my finding suggest if you intend to mostly shoot landscapes and buildings etc with small apertures, you might as well stick with the Sony zoom lens(es). The qualities of this lens are related to bokeh and low light performance.
One of my favourite lenses is my Sigma 150-600 which I use with my Canon EOS77D for wildlife. Just mentioned that to dispel any thoughts that I’m anti-Sigma!
This lens is INSANE. It is astonishing SHARP, so is perfect both for photos and videos. I’m using it on my Sony a6400 and I really can notice the difference between this Sigma and the Sony kit lens. Also, this lens is perfect for low light conditions, due to f/1.4 aperture. Bokeh is so nice and creamy. I definitely recommend this lens as it is not expensive for what you get.
Bought this lense after the use it does the job for which I purchased , missed the zoom functionality for this I have to order a different lens . If you are looking for wide angle lens for mirror less camera this one is no exception . Very good picture quality autofocus is very sharp . Crispy pictures and blur background .
So, this was primarily bought to take pictures of the northern lights when the opportunity arises but I also liked the idea of having a good low light performing prime lens and upon purchasing, I decided to try and take some pictures of the recent comet.
The picture enclosed is that of Neowise and edited on an iPhone 6s but everything else is from the camera directly.
Although I haven’t had too much chance to play with it I have been encouraged by what I have seen- as others have mentioned the focus ring is very sensitive and some kind of banding to hold this in place may be needed- I did find that several of my photos weren’t focused correctly and I’m hoping that’s due to this and not a defect with the lens.
Another point to mention is that it is a heavier lens and something to keep in mind.
I believe, as with most astrophotography photos, a lot of work is done post processing images to really make them stand out- I have not got the software to do this yet but I am still relatively pleased with the initial photos. I am also fairly new to all this so I probably haven’t got the settings just right yet either but hoping this proves to be a valuable lens for my a6500.
A few months ago, I decided in making my own high-quality webcam by using a high quality Sony Alpha 6000 camera connected to my computer (via Elgato Cam Link 4k that allows connecting an HDMI cable via USB 3)
The results were spectacular, but I wanted to achieve the background blur (bokeh) that one can see professional streamers have.
After a lot of searching and reading reviews, most recommended the Sigma 16mm and 30mm F1.4 lens for this, and they were not wrong – this lens provides a spetacular bokeh that is perfect for streaming or video calls!
I carried out a lot of research on this lens before purchasing. I need it primarily for video & the shallow depth of field.
But I also use it for photographs and it hasn’t disappointed.
this lens is by no means heavy but perhaps heavier than I expected but this is because the only other lens I have is a Sony 30mm macro lens, which is incredibly light.
From what I can tell, this lens performs fantastically well. I’ve been comparing my results with the kit lens (and though you can definitely get some great pics with the kit lens), the biggest upgrades here for me are sharpness (especially at the corners), BOKEH is superb, autofous is actually really snappy for photography and still good for even lowlight video.
If it’s in your budget and you’re considering this lens, I doubt you’d be disappointed with any real aspect of it provided you are aware of its size and weight. I really wouldn’t sweat no OSS at this level of zoom, unless maybe you’re a vlogger. I mostly take landscapes and urban landscapes with some portraits now and again. I think this lens is fantastic for this use case.
Sooooo sharp!
Full frame equivalent of 24mm f2.
It’s so much sharper than the kit lens even at f1.4 Vs 3.5.
Build quality is great, focus ring is focus by wire but very smooth.
It is quite big for an aps-c lens but worth it in my opinio
You can focus on objects so closely that the lens hood is touching it. This, combined with the speed, and therefore shallow depth of field, makes for a really interesting lens.
Obviously it’s also amazing for night photography and low light in general. I’ve attached some pics to demonstrate what I’m taking about.
One of Sigma’s finest, and I’m amazed it’s not an ‘Art’ series lens. Excellent quality build and performance. Great value for money, and just as good as all the reviewers say it is!
THIS LENSE IS OUTSTANDING. I USE IT FOR VIDEOS AND IT IS INCREDIBLE. I USE IT FOR EVERYTHING. DO NOT WAIT ONE SECOND LONGER. BUY BUY BUY BUY BUY.

Brilliant lens. It’s my go to lens for most situations. It’s excellent in low light and very sharp at all apertures. The bokeh is excellent.
I use it for family portraits and landscapes and is razor sharp from f3 and above.
Would highly recommend.
– bokeh is amazing
– very good build quality
– smooth focusing ring
– works with auto focus
– perfect image everytime
cons – auto focusing does have some noise, audible through inbody microphone
– quite heavy, but this is obvious due to the build quality
hope this helps
