In terms of sound quality, connectivity and build this Sonos will be very hard to beat. The price is at the high end, but the quality and engineering of the speaker is first class.
I like the looks of it and easy to carry from indoor to oudoor use but the soynd that I am expected it to punch the base didn’t meet my expectations not to name my other system but the base of this Sonos Move it lacks the feel of the base asude from that it’s okay. Sonos should improve the base of these units if thus is rectified this unit will be the leading brand of its level.
Sound quality to rival any speaker in the sonos range and in a portable package that you can use in any room or outdoors
Sound quality excellent – like the other Sonos’ but this one is portable. And loud.
The dock is pretty slick, and the charging smooth
Links up to all the other Sonos easily for multiroom as well
Could not be paired in Bluetooth mode , only in WiFi mode. The battery life will not go to the claimed hours if at 75% volume. Its sound quality could be better at low volume. It was a real let down that they could not be paired in Bluetooth mode. Maybe something Sonos could change in their updates in the future. Other than that great speakers .
I wanted something I could use in my garden office most of the time but also use in the garden when it is sunny at the weekends and this fits both those requirements perfectly. It has the brilliant sound quality you expect from Sonos and is richer than their Sonos One speaker. It has surprisingly good battery life too. I had it on all afternoon and most of the evening and it use about 60% of the battery.
I really like the sound quality so it’s definitely worth the money. One thing though – I don’t like that you have to use the Sonos app to use the speaker, as for me when internet connection is weak I can’t play music because the app disconnects from the speaker. Also I don’t like the Sonos app in general – it doesn’t complement the existing apps I use for music. So it’s a 4/5 from me.
There is nothing to dislike about the Sonos Move. I already had a Sonos system, with speakers in most rooms, but always wanted to be able to have the same sound quality outside, without taking a speaker out on an extension lead. Sonos Move was the answer, I agree it is a bit expensive, but, once in use, the cost was soon forgotten. I’m able to listen to all my favourite music at a low level and still retain top quality sound. Anywhere! It’s also Bluetooth, so if your Wi-Fi range isn’t great, you can stream straight from a mobile device. Easy to set-up, but you will have to upgrade to the Sonos 2 App. The Move set itself up, and the quality is equal to a Play 3. If you’re a serious music lover, it’s worth every penny to have quality sound, wherever you are. Enjoy your favourite music with a glass of wine sat on the patio. Five stars!
Firstly the concept of this is brilliant, at first I thought that I wouldn’t move it around much at all but it’s brilliant now the summer is coming to take out in the garden and the fact it can withstand high temperatures and is weather resistant is even better for peace of mind! The sound is amazing and I would definitely recommend it!
I bought two of these for our outside space and am blown away by just how good they are.
Really easy to setup and the sound fills outside space with really good bass and range. It is easy to move with a comfortable balanced handle built into the frame and the battery will last a full day of play.
A total joy
What a product!! Once again never let down by Sonos. Had a few minor issues with the initial set up, however think that was down to myself rather than the product.
Really impressed with the battery life. Had this speaker playing all day and the battery was still 40% when I took it in to charge at night.
As for portability, around the house its perfect and days out where you might be using the car to take you there. A bit big for a rucksack or luggage.
If portability is your thing, have a look at the Sonos Roam.
Overall I’m really happy with this purchase.
Plus side: really good sound quality and volume; recharges very quickly; connects easily to Bluetooth devices like phone or pad that have music stored on them; connected very easily to my desktop PC on the house Wi-Fi network and plays everything from my iTunes library using the downloaded app on my phone; connected to my Amazon Music account quickly and I can either play via the Sonos app or by asking the built-in Alexa.
Slight negatives: instructions are verging on non-existent – I had to work out most of the set-up for myself, which thankfully was not difficult; it is heavier than I expected, but not uncomfortably so.
Grumble: for some reason when using the Alexa function, the wake word cannot be changed. I have several Alexa devices in the home and it would be really useful if this speaker could wake to something different if I have it in the same room as a “permanent” device. I have had to change the wake word on all the other devices just so that this one can be distinct from them if they are temporarily in the same room. Something for Sonos to consider in a future software update and I note it is a grumble on their forum.
Added 2 of these in the kitchen and linked as a stereo pair which are then portable to take to the garden, linking as a stereo pair makes a big difference,I’ve got the 5.1 system in the living room which is open plan so adding these 2 puts sound throught ground floor or bring them to the surround system for greater sound, the bass from the 5.1 makes up for the loss of bass in 2 paired moves, pairs 100% in sync with music but there is a definite off putting delay if watching TV or a film
Works very well in fact and I like it a lot but a couple of things to be aware of
1. Battery life. When actually playing no problems at all. When on standby (and apparently powered down) it isn’t really. Go away for a couple of days, come back and…dead. Not a big deal but may want switch off manually rather than let it go to standby
2. Cannot connect to SonosNet like other units. Has to be able to link itself directly back to your wireless router. In my case that meant linking to WiFi range extender. Again no real issue, I had just assumed it would link to Sonosne
Having owned top of the range amps and speakers previously, I was wary of achieving the quality sound quality I wanted. I am blown away by the depth, range and clarity of the sound. I have these connected to the Sonos Arc and Sub Woofer to give a full surround to both TV and music from my music library. I know Sonos items are not cheap but if you can afford it they more than reward you with the top quality sound they give. Very easy to set up and connect. Would highly recommend. Thank you, I am so pleased.
This is the only speaker I have bought that the sound really exceeds the sales talk. I cant express how good this speaker is. This is so good the speaker has opened me to listening to all my old songs as it has brought out a whole new great sound with loads of bass. Extra bass is found through the sonos apps equaliser and i didn’t need to turn it up too far to get the amount I needed. I can also hear more discreet percussions and guitar that you don’t pick up on any other speaker and its all very clear
I know its expensive but the price has brought me the exact sound I wanted, too many speakers I have bought left me to be looking again for what i really wanted.
The only advice i can give is just buy it you wont regret it
Everything i have said above still stands and i wouldn’t let my next comment put you off buying the speaker but you have to be fair and say it how it is.
The app wasnt too bad when i first bought the speaker but it has to be said that the app connectivity issues with the speaker are shocking – i mean really really shocking. If i was Sonos i would scrap the app completely and start again and while i was at it i would scrap the current team with it and get a fresh new team to fix this frustrating on going problem. Currently even when they fix it the next update always breaks it again its very frustrating
You just never know when this app is going to work and when it isnt going to work its got a mind of its own.. You can get around it by rebooting your Internet Hub , rebooting your device and closing your app down and do a restart. Or more than not all three solutions a few times over
You can voice command to the speaker directly and by pass the app through Alexa and this works extremely well.
This isnt to put a Ink blot on the speaker this is indeed a great speaker so dont be put off by the app but i will reduce the 5 star to a 4 because of the app issue
I’ve seen a few bad reviews of this speaker, so wanted to put my two peneth in! The speaker is awesome. I have a connect and connect amp, 3 x play 1’s, a play 3, a play 5, 2 x playbases, and a sub so I am well invested in the Sonos brand. I love the Move. It sounds way better than a play one, and better than my older play 3. The fact you can just pick it up and play music in the garden when having a BBQ is wonderful. I didn’t test it to any extreme but the WiFi range and battery life are great. It’s the Sonos product I didn’t think I needed until I bought one.
It’s not cheap, but I use it every day so price-per-use is coming down!
Sounds good. The Alexa feature is more useful than I expected –you can just shout at the radio to get it to shut up when your phone rings for example.
I have a number of Sonus speakers dotted around the house but this is the one that gets the most use and while I only rarely pull it off its cradle and go into the garden with it, when I do the connectivity is excellent.
I’ve got a few Sonos speakers but the price tag on this one made me hesitate for a while. Value for money is a very personal issue so you’ll have to decide that one for yourself! Unlike some of the horror reviews on here, the set up process was very simple and fast. The app found the new speaker instantly, it joined the network in under a minute and the Alexa app told me it had automatically added it as well. After a brief update of all products, lasting about 20 seconds, it was playing music.
The sound quality is very much up to Sonos’ standards and the Truetone made some adjustment very quickly. The idea I can just pick this up and take it anywhere was the selling point for me. It feels solid and you might not want to carry it too far, but it’s not so heavy as to make that impossible either.
This is certainly an investment to ponder over unless you can afford to chuck 400 about without much thought, but you effectively get a high quality speaker you can use anywhere in your home, garden and beyond so it does the job of several speakers. Even if you do feel you’ve got this wrong, this is likely to have a decent re-sale value for some time so you’re unlikely to lose all your money!
When I was looking at reviews on this speaker before purchasing, Amazon’s top review was a 1 star review with a title “Disgraceful”. It’s basically about Sonos stopping support after 10 years. This practice goes for the whole of the electronics industry full stop. Some manufacturers do this after 5 years or even less. Unfortunately, we live in a throw away society, which was driven by very cheap electronics. Plus this speaker might last 15 years. Just because support stops after 10 years, doesn’t mean the speaker will suddenly stop working.
How many people spend 1,200 + on a iPhone every other year? This a is 400 speaker with a 2 year guarantee which will be serviceable for 10 years, and Sonos offer a service to replace the built-in battery.
Anyway, enough of that. Perhaps the reviews should reflect the quality of the product, and not a gripe with the company.
In my opinion this is one of the best sounding portable speakers I’ve heard to date. The bass extension is extraordinary. Very easy set-up, no issues what so ever. The build is incredibly solid.
PLEASE NOTE you do need to download the Sonos app, create an account, and register the product via your home Wi-Fi network before you can use bluetooth.
The speaker is disabled straight out of the box until you complete this set-up, so you can’t buy this at the airport and use it straight away with your phone via bluetooth.
After the set up, you don’t even have to use the Sonos app to run the speaker if you don’t want to.
You can use any music player via bluetooth on your android device (sorry, don’t know about iOS). I use Poweramp as my main music player, and have no issues using it with the Sonos Move.
We have a number of SONOS speakers already. Over lockdown, my hubby has done lots of work on the garden and made it a lovely space. In the past, we’ve turned the Play 5 up really loud in the house to get music in the garden, not ideal walking through the blaring noise. Anyway, did some research and this looked perfect for our needs. It lives in the house as an extra speaker but is so easy to use in the garden whenever we’re outside – just pick it up from the base and it carries on playing. Good audio quality (apparently hubby can tell that isn’t not quite as good as the Play 1, one or Play 5 – but I can’t!)
The fact it can be WiFi or Bluetooth means we might take it camping when we next go! The possibilities really are endless – so far, a great investment that is used daily.
I’ve only been buying Sonos products for about a year. I started off with a 5 and a pair of Sonos 1’s. Both products have been super impressive. However, i wasn’t quite prepared for just how good this Sonos Move is. I come from a music background (DJ/producer of 20+ years) so audio quality is something very very important to me and i’m super fussy. I’ve been using this in my garden for over a month now and it just fills my garden with wonderful sound, deep warm bass and clear mid-range and nice clean highs. Sit it on the ground in front of a wall, or in a corner and it will blow you away. A friend remarked that it was ‘like having a club in your back garden’. Because the sound is so rich and full, you don’t even need to have it up that loud, so it’s perfect if like me you have neighbours close by.
Everything I’d come to expect from a Sonos speaker is in the Move. It’s genuinely brilliant. I’ve never heard sound as good as this in a portable speaker before. Yes it is on the expensive side, but i have to say it’s been worth every penny so far.
Pros:
Sound quality (up there with Sonos 5).
Portability – dead easy to move around, the handle is great. It’s good and heavy though.
Battery – 10 hours, recharges really quickly – the charging dock is super convenient
Bluetooth – option to switch it over to Bluetooth if wifi an issue
Integration with the rest of Sonos system is perfect – multi-room audio
Wifi extender – can stream from Wifi a good distance from house
Cons:
There is only thing i can put here and it’s not even to do with the speaker. The speaker can stream your audio up to 50m away from router (according to tests i’ve seen). However, your phone needs to be able to access the same router from 50m away if you want to access the Sonos app, as it needs wifi. This is more a limitation of the phone than Sonos. What i do is start my playlist in house and then take the speaker outside, it does some kind of buffering which means you can take it further away from you house and it never drops.
Bought to add another dimension to my Sonos setup. Time will tell if it was a good investment as I love my Sonos stuff but a bit concerned that I need to upgrade so many components to be able to use their new S2 app and trade in is only 30% I think it needs to be a bit more as it was bought to evolve and add components not to replace them. No news on battery life if left on the base a lot for the Move or replacement cost once we get to that point. Probably too expensive with these questions so bought with undermined brand loyalty in mind.
Amazing sound, great portability allows me to pick it up and take it out to the garden on a sunny day. Battery life is fantastic too. Loses one star purely for being sooooooo expensive. I own a lot of Sonos speakers now so I’m well aware that being expensive is par for the course with Sonos but I think the Move is excessively expensive for what it is – essentially a Sonos One with extra portability. I expect to pay a premium for that extra portability but circa 200?!?! Still I’m a bit of a Sonos fanboy so had to have one regardless 🙂
This speaker is amazing. Absolutely love it.
Have it in our kitchen connected to the sonos system. Then I take it out the garden or garage and use the Bluetooth to sync it up to spotify from my phone.
The battery life is pretty awesome. I have used it for around 3 hours on loud volume and it was still on 80%. So its a pretty impressive battery.
The sound quality tops the sonos 1 or 2. It has a much better bass in comparison. However comes under the sound quality of a sonos 5.
The flexibility is really worth the price tag. Highly recommended.
Love the sound quality and how it easily links to my other Sonos ecosystem.
Like how it tunes itself depending on what room you’re in etc.
Like the sturdyness of it, it’s a bit on the heavy side, but I like that. It’s bigger than a lot of portable speakers, so less likely to take it out of the house than say a small Bluetooth speaker, but for around the house and garden, it’s brilliant.
Love the fact that it gives you portable Google Assistant control (also works with Alexa), so if you’re in the garden and your hands are muddy/wet, you can just tell it what to do and keep the music going.
It can also be grouped with Sonos TV speaker setup, so you can actually use it as an extra surround speaker, or what I do it put near me when watching TV on the evening after the kids have gone to bed, turn the main speakers volume down. It’s like having a personal monitor speaker right next to you.
Sound quality is excellent, big volume, big bass. All you need for a garden party etc
The only reason for 4 stars is the 350, and that it’s not as portable as it might be.
I’d also like to see an update to the Sonos app to be able to use this device to Trueplay my other Sonos Speakers.
As an Android user, it would be a nice feature to have, it seems silly that this feature is IOS only, at least with using one of their own speakers, they can guarentee that the hardware is the same.
Other than that, one of the best gagets I own, would recommend
SONOS MOVE
Firstly this is a review from an existing SONOS household, I have Play 1, One, 3,5 playbar and beam. So have a lot to compare with.
Why we bought it — wanted an outside speaker in the garden to be used for BBQ’s, gardening etc.
I had looked at various other outdoor speakers but they are either small / Bluetooth only or require physical install and are expensive.
1. Uboxing and setup — As usual the SONOS comes well packaged which is easy to take everything out. Setup for an existing SONOS user was very easy, plug in > open sonos app > add new device > name device . Done (I used apple).
2. Sound quality — I would say the quality is on par with a play ONE/1 but has a slight more stereo edge, the volume goes reasonably high. No difference fixed on portable on wifi.
3. Portability — has a nice little handle on the back and not to heavy to easy to transport within the home, not sure I would take out of the home. WIFI Coverage it uses dual band (unlike previous SONOS products) so I was able to use it everywhere in the house and garden.
4. Battery life — I put it on for 8 hours on wifi in the garden and it only dropped to about 50% so a great battery life.
Positives
1. Sounds much better than Bluetooth only portable speakers
2. When connected to WIFI smart functions (i.e. google/alexa/streaming)
3. IP56 (so dust and water resistance)
4. Easy setup
5. WIFI Range
Negatives to consider
1. Expensive when its really like a SONOS 1
2. If you dropped it would break for sure
3. At Wifi edge range hard to workout when to switch to bluetooth
Sound quality & volume are good, and its perceived quality and easy of use is also good. (Simple controls and ability to move it around the house and garden. And ability to switch from WiFi to Bluetooth). App is easy to use and straightforward. Microphone or voice recognition is not as good as my Echo Dot. When it’s on the charging doc it seems to turn itself back onto “ready mode” after I’ve pressed the Off Button. (I don’t like it sitting there listening to everything). I’d expect it to stay off when I turn it off. Overall I’d recommend the Move for its sound quality and ease of use.
I was first introduced to the Sonos Move when visiting my family a few months back and was duly impressed by the sound quality, batter life and mobility aspects of the speaker. After hemming and hawing for some time, I finally purchased it for our home and have been extremely pleased with the decision. Living in a narrow three floor row home, the ability to take the speaker to different floors to enjoy the music wherever we are. The long battery life means we can enjoy the music for hours even if it isn’t charging.
Additionally, the Sonos app makes it really easy to use and play the music or podcasts you want. It also allows for those on the system to control the music and volume. Possibly a double-edged sword, but generally it is nice if one person gets a phone call or needs to adjust the volume quickly and isn’t in the same room as the speaker. Overall, I’d highly recommend the Sonos Move even at the chunky price-point.
We already have a Sonos 1 and a Sonos 3 but when my husband saw that there was a new, mobile speaker he was really interested so that we can play music in the garden and also whilst we are “out and about” in the Summer. It is a really clever piece of technology and I’m sure it will come into its own in the better weather. I can’t comment on the battery life as we have only played it from the mains so far but it has the usual Sonos quality sound and we would recommend.
This is a big old unit. It’s heavy and you wouldn’t want to travel with it. It’s great around the house and garden though. It doesn’t get damaged in light rain or in a steamy bathroom. It’s linked to a NAS drive with hi res audio files and the sound is very impressive. I like the fact that after 3 years, the battery can be replaced. Bluetooth is a bonus when you’re away from WiFi and voice control is useful when your in bed and want to set an alarm, a sleep timer or just know what the time is. The construction is solid and heavy. It’s expensive but I think the sound and versatility are excellent. The battery lasts at least 10 hours and the charging base is hassle free. Very highly recommended.
The Sonos Move is a superb speaker either on its own or as a multiform speaker part of the sonos network.
This is a comparison with the bose portable home speaker which I also have.
1.SOUND. Sonos the sound is fantastic, bass is great, mids and highs also very good. it get very loud, there is an equaliser in the app, so you can adjust bass treble and loudness. Bose, sound is good, but I found the bass was too much even after adjusting it in the Bose music app. its also not as clear or loud as the Sonos.
2.BATTERY. I played the move at 50% volume and got 10hours and 37 minutes before it stopped playing that was when it got down to 5% on the app which I think must be a battery safeguard. Quite honestly if you were to play the move at anything above 70% then its way too loud for me. Even at 80% it does not distort. The BOSE speaker is got 9hours 25minutes on 50% volume and at 70-80% volume the bass completely ruined everything for me.
3.APPEARANCE AND PORTABILITY. both are good looking speakers the Bose is more portable because of the weight but the Sonos can be moved around quite easily.
CONCLUSION. Its a no brainer for me if you want sound quality its the Sonos by a country mile, if you want portability then its the Bose.
The Sonos can be paired with another move for stereo (expensive) the Bose cannot be paired for stereo.
Post script. One con I have found is that the battery deletes if the speaker is not on its base ie From 100% overnight ton56% 14 hours later, will update on this.
Added thoughts, Bluetooth has not been good keeps losing connection, sound also not as full as with internet connection. 8 months later and through lockdown this speaker still sounds outstanding. Battery life is good considering how often I’m 7using it. 9.5 out of ten.
