If you listen to this speaker on a fairly moderate setting – with some bass, you’ll get about eight hours. If you turn it up you’ll zoom down pretty fast. If you put the settings on economy and have the volume just under half it might get you 16 or 17. No way does this speaker go beyond that. Why they don’t put a bigger battery and hike the price 10% amazes me…

The quality of the Sony SRS-XG500 cannot be faulted. I heard nuances in a soft Schubert Impromptu which have never come through on my car stereo. To test the volume outdoors I rocked it up with Rameau (Foret Paisible, Les Sauvages) from Les Indes Galantes – OMG! My noisy neighbours ran for cover, serves them right!
Sadly I will not be keeping the speaker. I bought this for playing directly from a USB. It will not play recordings on a USB in the correct order, which is a bit useless for classical music. There is no display, either, so you don’t know exactly where you are in the album. Nor will it keep the place in the album. Every time you insert the USB, it starts right back from the beginning. I heard my Schubert about 4 times while I was fiddling with it!
I guess if you have a smartphone this would be a great speaker. For the plug in and play brigade like me, it’s no good. The other minus point is the weight of the item; at 5.6 kg you don’t want to be lugging it too far. I suppose weight = quality so you probably can’t have it both ways.
This is a good solid speaker with a high volume and decent bass. The Bluetooth function is easy to use and voice prompts let you know when you are connected.
The lights can be turned off via a button on the rear of the speaker and a separate free app allows you a few more gimmicky features such as colour selection and “themes” but is nothing outstanding.
Battery life on this is really good and the speaker feels solid and well built, however despite the retractable handle you wouldn’t want to carry this long distances or put it in your hand luggage for example as it is on the heavier side. This is not a negative for me though personally.
I predominately use this for connecting to my Technics BT record player or connect my iphone and have no complaints. This is an excellent speaker from a reputable brand. I look forward to using this at bbq’s when the warm weather arrives
This Sony Bluetooth speaker is easy to set up and sounds good, the good thing is the the charger goes straight into the battery which makes it easy to charge. I am very happy with is item.

I have always loved the quality of a Sony products. This is a perfect option, as it looks classy, is well built , the speaker the bass boost gives a similar quality to much more expensive equipment and the sound quality isn’t lost as you up the volume. I want to listen to music/audiobooks and with this it does not disappoint.
I love the sound quality of a Sony, from the old separates to headphones, you cannot go wrong. Had this run in for about 20 hours now with new firmware update. Very impressed with the sound and the power that this things delivers. I use it in the work van while delivering parcels. Sounds at its best in good size room though. The only thing I wish was the soundstage was a bit wider. But apart from that it’s the best buy I’ve made in a long time

This speaker looks both durable and aesthetically pleasing to the eyes. The rugged hard mesh outer, smart retractable handle, the two rubber ‘feet’, the woofer side speakers, and party lights make this speaker unique and versatile.
Pairing it to my smartphone was simple and quick, and once the Sony Music Centre app was downloaded, it was easy to navigate through the setting. Another useful feature is that it can also pair to multiple devices at the same time.
The sound is crisp and clear, with nice weighty bass. If you need a deeper bass, you can choose a Mega Bass setting. It’s USB charging that’s simple to do with a small port at the back of the speaker. The inbuilt battery can provide up to 25 hours of continuous music play, very impressive I’d say! I really like that there are two Bluetooth ports so you can change from one device to another without having to re-pair.
In short, I’m very pleased with this portable speaker. Also, the size of this little thing makes it easy to carry around inconspicuously. It is usually 259 but there is a 40 discount which I think makes it a good buy considering its quality and impressive functionality.
This Sony Bluetooth speaker has a solid sound coming out of it for the size.
It is a tubular shape and has party lights at each end that flash in sync with the music.
This connected to my phone very easily and the Bass boost button gave a deep, pleasing rumble to my music.
It is maybe a touch too large to transport around outside with you (although it has a sturdy handle), but is ideal to move around the house or out in the garden if you want to take your music with you or have it on in the background.
It has ample battery life, although of course this would run down faster if you have the lights going.
The sound on this is very impressive and this would be great for a kids bedroom or spare kitchen speaker etc. It feels well made and sturdy and should provide plenty of musical enjoyment.
This cylindrical speaker with illuminating lights reminds me of long SIP heaters that you generally find in garages or places with lots of dusk as the heater does not have a fan, but it doesn’t make a mess when you are trying to heat your room. I digress.
This speaker from the aforementioned SIP heater resemblance is quite a machine. Not only does it have the usual Bluetooth connectivity and the colour mimicking the music function, but it is also actually a g speaker that deals well with all sorts of genres. I’m a bass-heavy freak and this speaker has handled Dr Dre with aplomb. The clarity and oomph from a portable are astounding. I’m not saying these are the best sounding speakers ever, far from it. Many floor-standing standing speakers will wipe the floor with these. Let me repeat” floor standing speakers” these are probably the best-sounding mini portable speakers I heard to date.
Sony has done a great job with this speaker, aesthetically pleasing to the eye, and sounds thumping good to the ear. What’s not to like?
Now this arrives extremely well packaged with a UK and European plug plate which you have to pop on. The instructions are clear and straight forward. The app has helpful hints pop up to help you. You then charge up and you’re ready to go. You need to turn it on to connect the Bluetooth.
You can manually control it or via the app or via your phone. Now as for the sound quality it’s at its best low to medium to medium-high. At the highest setting you start to get distortion but it’s not a hi-fi. The highest volume is extremely loud though that your neighbours would be able to hear if you were attached. The bass gives the music an added warmth to it without it being too heavy. It’s a substantial and heavy unit with solid feet to rest on.(3kg/6lbs) Everything about it is quality as you’d expect from Sony. I’ve been using it on and off for over a week and the battery is still going. 10-minute fast charge will give you 70 minutes of playtime. This speaker categorically outdoes the rest and looks particularly expensive. This is one talented beast of a speaker, bursting with extra features you may or may not need, and it somehow manages to play the party card in one moment and still look demure in your lounge the next, thanks to a few simple taps in Sony’s exhaustive Music Center app.According to Sony, it also permits around three times the amount of data to be streamed over Bluetooth thanks to the use of more efficient coding and “optimised packetization” of the data. All in all, the Sony XG300’s performance leaves me with no alternative but to conclude that it is a very, very good-sounding and extensively featured Bluetooth speaker. It’s also IP67 dust- and waterproof, so is fine for the pool or beach. So if that is what you want and you’ve got the cash, then splash it with confidence as this new model released in July 2022 is superb.

This is a large and powerful battery-powered speaker. It can connect by bluetooth to two separate devices, and has a 3.5mm jack for connecting something by cable. Bluetooth pairing is really simple, you just press the button and pick the item from your device. The other buttons on the device switch on “mega bass”, essential for me as I like bass; and also next track and pause buttons which control the music source.
Battery life is really impressive given the power of the device, easily lasting all day. It’s charged by USB-C, and is supplied with a charger plug.
The item looks like a little log, with a curvy design which narrows slightly in the middle, and a retractable handle. It’s rather larger and heavier than I expected too.
There are colour effects on the subwoofers on the side which are in sync with the music, but also rotate through a sequence when the speaker is switched on but not playing music.
The sound quality from the device is very good. The bass could be greater for me, even with the mega bass turned on, but having it on really does accentuate bass lines nicely without any distortion. All types of music seem to reproduce well, as does radio and other speech. It goes really loud – and perhaps loses a bit of quality for me with the treble coming out more. It certainly doesn’t have the sort of bass you can feel in your stomach, but you can’t really expect it from something playing mp3s off a battery.
I haven’t had it underwater but it does have a good IP rating so a sudden shower outside shouldn’t hurt it.

It can also be used in prohibitive situations: I think of the sea, like the mountains, but also in the park. Where any outside agent would harm a traditional speaker.
The speaker comes well packaged within its box so unlikely to arrive damaged. There is a USB charging cable and instructions included.
The speaker is larger than the usual bluetooth speakers and is quite heavy too. It has a nice firm carry handle on top, so it is completely portable. I charged it up as soon as I unpacked it, which took about 3 hours, and it was very easy to connect my phone via bluetooth.
The sound was really very good, almost amazing (I don’t use that word lightly). Music was clear with a good drum and bass and listening to an audio book was also clear without muffled voices. The controls are minimal but most of those are on your music app anyway.
With a play time of around 25 hours, it’s a great portable speaker which can be used from room to room or out in the open (please be kind to neighbours though). Great quality build.

This is no exception. Even with the volume up really high, the sounds are clear and clean.
Easy to charge, superb portability snd the easiest and quickest Bluetooth setup I have ever used.

Light show is quite cute if you like that sort of thing, but as it’s at the ends of the speaker tube you don’t see it unless you look for it.
Overall it’s got everything up I need in a portable speaker.

I’ve had a few portable speakers and in the past there has been a trade off between portability and practicality on one hand, and sound quality on the other. For instance I have a nice little Wonderboom speaker which is waterproof to the point of being able to float in a pool, rugged as hell and with great battery life, but the sound is a bit limited. In step Sony with this beast of a speaker which is bigger and heavier but well built for portability with a handle built in that neatly slides in again when not used. 25 hours of battery life is great and I love the fact that you can even plug your phone into it for charging. And crucially the sound is fantastic; full and deep even when you’re out in an open space, and the waterproof features mean you don’t need to worry about rain or accidents. It has a pretty rugged construction too.
All in all, exactly what a portable speaker should and absolutely perfect for summer days and nights in the park.
After a long waiting for Sony’s new speaker releases (the XB33/43 series has been good be old), the brand new speaker has finally arrived! My order was delivered directly through Sony’s warehouse, arrived 1 day earlier than the release day.
The sound is very versatile, I’m able to enjoy variety of musics genres without worry about tuning. You will also notice the sound is very well contained & crisp rather than sparse (which is good sign of quality to start with), with live mode it will simulate sparse sound.
The battery lasts long, but remember turn off the light if possible, the light does seems to drain the battery a lot faster.
Thankfully Sony maintains an actual functioning AUX port. Some brainless manufacturers follows the “trends” removed AUX, even some included cut out sound immediately when sound volume is low. Sony has make AUX simple! Just works, I’ve been using it with digital instrument, responsive and great mid/high range sound.
Overall I’m extremely happy with the speaker, Sony has done a great job designing this model.
30 hours battery life is more than you will need to keep the party going. The look of the speaker is equally aestheticallies pleasing as well. Whilst it is quite heavies I would definitely recommend it to any interestd purchaser the glowings light is also veey good.
