Just received the drive yesterday and it’s proving to be everything promised. Good transfer speeds compared to my older drives and seems a very robust way to store a lot of data. Good investment!

Bought this to connect to a ps4. Once connected, the onscreen instruction to format the hard drive came up, clicked OK and in a minute or so was ready for use.

I bought this in 2019 because I could only afford a laptop with small inbuilt memory. I was able to start playing games I downloaded from stream to the storage and keep my photos and movies and series on it. I am only now coming to it’s limit and I am going to order a second one. Cannot recommend highly enough. Plug in and use. Simple and has so much storage ability.

Got my head round it once I was able to format it for use for my Mac OS 10.4 as it only accepts Mac OS 10.5 and higher – something I was not aware of when I bought this. But I already own 1 and thats been working 5 years solid with no problems, hence why I bought another one.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersI found this a surprise to be honest as there is a lot of negative reviews on it. It’s made by Silicon Power and is made in Taiwan, it’s there own brand of drive so it’s not another brand inside the shell.

I basically bought this as my Western Digital 1TB external desktop hard drive was getting quite full and thought to back the whole thing up as well as my family could use it to backing all there documents and photos etc. I’ve only had it for the day and can’t comment on the longer down the road shelf life but I copied my whole 1TB hard drive to it and my computer only supports USB 2.0 and the drive I was coping from was also USB 2.0 and with both formatted to NTFS I got about 25mbps on videos and music was running at 18mbps and PlayStation backups at about 22mbps which ain’t bad considering that’s at 2.0 not it’s 3.1 stated.

When you plug the drive in for the first time you have a warranty register pdf file and a backup program on the drive, I’d suggest to just quickly format it at NTFS and use Default as the allocation size. If your using it only for windows use NTFS and if on Mac or Linux etc use ExFat.

NTFS – Pros = can copy a single file 4GB or more and keeps a journal of drive changes like moving, deleting and copying etc.
NTFS – Cons = it’s not very compatible like FAT32 or ExFat but more reliable if using it for just windows.

ExFat – Pros = it can copy a single file 4GB or more and is quite compatible where Mac and Linux etc can use it.
ExFat – Cons = from what I have read even though being quite compatible it can be unreliable as it doesn’t journal the changes made on the drive getting confused compared to NTFS and I think that’s where errors and it being unstable might be the problem not functioning properly so maybe take note of this and keep it at NTFS if you can.

There’s nothing much more to say that it spent 10 hours straight coping all my backups of documents, photos, videos, PlayStation saves, programs, PC games and music etc without a problem. The only thing that does knock a star off is the usb cable attached round it that the silicone clips just fall off easily but it’s quite minor and doesn’t reflect anything on the drive it works fine.

I’ve loaded up videos and photos without any problem and ran a PC game off it no problem. I’ve attached some screenshots of speed and driver display for the drive.

A Good robust external hard drive.

I’ve bought a few of these for use as backup images of clients computers. They’re robust and fast and, to date, never failed. OK, I don’t use them continually but they’re a great way to store backups and the shove in my briefcase when travelling to a client.

came on time and well packaged.
Worked straight out of the box.
Quiet and very easy to use.
Lead is a little short and the none standard USB end seemed a little loose in the drive socket.
Other than that all is well.

This external Hard drive disc is excellent. It is rugged, compact, and powerful. I got it as a replacement for an older EHD and it is far better. And It is also very competitively priced.

It’s outter casing makes it durable and shock proof and three is a little clip to hold the lead which was a nice touch. It’s small and easy to take when travelling but there are thinner ones out there. Depends what your priority is.
Definitely reccommend and would purchase again.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersIn use, this Silicon Power Rugged Hard drive is no different than any other of the several routinely used. In physical characteristics it has a few subtle difference, the most obvious being the choice of an on-board USB-A connector; should the original be lost or damaged, replacement will be less easy than almost any alternative. As usual, the lead supplied is quite short (about 20 cm overall). It is supplied formatted as NTFS and therefore compatible only with Windows devices as-is; Mac and other users will probably need to reformat to exFAT for more universal compatibility.

The casing surrounding the drive is rugged and a little larger all-round than is typical for the drive format; only the green edges are silicon and resilient while the top and bottom are stiff plastic. There are two small rubber lugs that help retain the cable around the drive casing when not in use but the lugs are not permanently attached and can easily become detached when contacting another object.

Pricing is very competitive for the capacity.

Every connection it’s somehow sealed for water but I haven’t been brave to test it’s water resistant or shockproof rating but it does feel secure for traveling and dropping it in your bag. It’s pretty quick and I am quite satisfied as also feels and looks pretty premium!

Brilliant product. Can’t fault it. I used it to back up my iMac which meant I had to reformat it to make it work, but that only took seconds to do. Very fast to copy files to.

Just what I wanted. Using with xbox one. This allows you to have a much bigger library for instant play and is half th price of the official xbox one external hard drive. And it’s shock proof, winner.

Bought this hard drive mainly as backup for comic files. I have the 1 Tb one and it works well. I have not tested durability and water resistance as I always put this in a laptop bag after using. But file transfer is fast enough with the cable it comes with and using USB 3.0 or USB 2 ports in my laptop. I noticed the hard drive’s light color turns red for USB 2.0 ports and blue for USB 3.0. The one I have is not SSD so I can hear something rotating once plugged in, which is typical for hard disks of this type.

I have noticed that after 1 year’s worth of use though, i have been having problems ejecting the drive from my laptop. It keeps saying drive is still in use despite not having any file folder opened. This could be a problem with my laptop only but who knows.
Another is the rubber sticking on the sides which is supposed to hold the usb cable. They can be detached quite easily and get lost easily as they are really small. I have only ever been lucky in consistently finding them after a while but it can be a pain.

Overall though, the hard drive works as intended which makes it a good item.

Bought for my sons xbox one for extra storage. Very easy to set up – literally plug it in and follow on screen directions, took minutes to do. So far seems to be great and just what he needed to download extra games on.

This is a repeat purchase as I needed more than one. In addition to its high speed performance and rugged features, it also incorporates a standard USB A socket on its body, unlike other drives that have a different type of connector. Makes it easier to find a replacement cable for the SP drive if the supplied cable becomes lost or damaged. It incorporates a transfer activity LED.

Looks great, seems to read/write faster than I’m used to. Option to add security software and other tool supplied. I’m really happy about this as I only wanted it for home media back up. Cable storage is handy. Is 24mb/s good? You tell me. I’m happy anyhoo.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice, much quicker, rugged, standard USB, no bloatware.

Great design – the cable tidy is a good addition and the casing is really tough. A good volume capacity and reassuringly robust when using on work travel.

Will definitely buy this range again in the future as larger capacities become available.

I bought this to back up my laptop. It took me a whole day to do it, but there was no issues with this drive at all. Handy to have the wire attached to it as well, however if you put the drive into your bag the wire will detach as it’s only held on by 2 little rubber things that aren’t really strong.
Overall a great buy if you need to back up or have a lot of stuff to store.

The hard drive has a reinforced body which is handy if you are like me and drop them. Hopefully this will prevent me from damaging any further drives. I’ll probably buy another one for back up.

When your hard disk is squeezed for space here is a good value, portable disk that is both easy to install and rugged enough to withstand the odd drop! The USB lead is neatly stored around the body of the device, when not in use. The capacity may dwarf many fixed disks in your laptop or desktop computer.

Good value, good size and good construction. I like the fact that the UBS can be removed – but I also find it annoying, because when it is strapped around the bulk of the hard drives body, using the small clips provided, they just fall out, and it never stays connected. Definitely worth it though – i use it for all my files and keep nothing on my laptop at all other than programs.

Having had another hard drive suddenly fail with a load of information stored on there am very nervous now about these hard drives. Had no idea they could be so fragile and could fail, so be warned! Chose this one as says it is shockproof and so hoping for better luck this time.

Golden Review Award: 10 From Our UsersI have now bought two of these external drives to provide two back ups for my extensive photograph collection. Generally they are well made and appear to work find. My only slight niggle is that the small black plastic clips used to retain the short USB leads are only held in place by grooves in the plastic sides and can easily pull out and be lost. The drives appear to be quite satisfactory in operation but the issue with the lead clips prevents me from giving 5 stars for durability.

I hear bad things about these drives, especially failure rates from those who use this a truly portable drive and often carry it round in backpacks and bags. Mine is stationary and will very rarely be moved so hopefully I avoid that.
As with all drives, never put anything important on it and rely on it not failing. Always have a backup solution (preferably multiple).

    Quite good. Fast transfers

I have had loads of hardrives from places like amazon and cex and ebuyer and so on. But this drive is different unlike the others you feel like your safe even if you drop it, The rubber around the case keeps the lead nice and tight. One of the best i have had in years well worth the money.

It certainly does not seem as “rugged” as the items description has you believe. However, i do not intend to be deliberatly dropping my drive so i really couldnt care about that. the drive seems to function as it should, materials seem a cheap option, but then again its one of the cheapest 1TB drives i found.

Overall im happy with this purchase.

Golden Review Award: 17 From Our UsersI was a bit skeptical because I wanted to use this as an external storage drive for my Xbox One and wasn’t sure if it would work, but it does. It was very quick and simple to set up with my Xbox, came with all the cabling and even has 3 years warranty with it. It came at a decent price and has impressive protection features like water and impact resistance to a military grade standard. Only slight quarrel was that the USB cable is a bit short but I managed to make it work. I strongly recommend this and hope you feel the same about this.

So far so good. I had a very dodgy external drive before with a poor connection cable which just spontaneously deleted a whole folder of crucial files one day. This one seems very sturdy and is functioning well so far (touch wood). The wee clips that hold the cable to the box when not plugged in are a bit weird – very lose-able little pieces of rubber/plastic.

Works fine for me, is fast in operation especially when used with a USB3 port. Only minor niggle is the way of attaching the cable to the body of the unit when travelling. I find it comes loose and I inevitably find I have to go scrumbling around in the bottom of my laptop bag to find it.
