FAQs

What does EMR stand for? Electromagnetic resonance (patented WACOM technology). This technology enables the pencil to use an electromagnetic field generated by the display of the device (tablet, smartphone or notebook) and to interact with it inductively. As a result, the device always knows exactly where the point of the Noris digital is, which means you can rest your palm on the display. Because the stylus uses the energy from the device in this way, it never needs to be charged or paired with the device.

What devices is the Noris digital compatible with? For a device to be compatible with the Noris digital, it must have EMR technology built into its display. We have listed the compatible devices we know of in our list with information on compatibility. Please note, however, that the model numbers of the devices may differ depending on the country. In addition, with some manufacturers the same models are available with different display versions – with and without EMR support. The list should give you an indication of whether your device might be compatible. Please make sure that EMR technology is built into your device’s display before purchasing the Noris digital.

Can the stylus also be used on Apple devices and Pixelbooks? No. These devices use a different display technology, not the EMR technology. Therefore, they are not compatible with our Noris digital.

Do I need to install a driver or software to use the pen on devices with EMR technology? No. So long as the WACOM EMR technology is built into a device’s display, you can start using the Noris digital straight away.

Why doesn’t the pen work although EMR is built into my end device’s display? If a stylus is included with your device, you may need to remove it from the device. It is also possible that on some devices the stylus function has to be activated in the system settings first. This is the case, for example, with the SAMSUNG Galaxy Note range.

How many pressure levels does the stylus have? The EMR point of the Noris digital has 4,096 pressure levels. Therefore, when you are using the stylus, the line becomes broader or narrower depending on the pressure applied, just like a real pencil. This doesn’t just enable extremely precise drawing, it also ensures a very natural writing experience. Please note that the line width variation depends on the app used.

Does the stylus have a side button like the S Pen?No. We wanted our Noris digital to provide an experience as close as possible to the experience of writing with a real pencil and this is what we focused on when designing it. A lot of customers find our stylus more comfortable because they cannot accidentally press a button.

Does the Noris digital have or need a battery? No. Thanks to the EMR technology, the Noris digital works inductively with the energy from the end device and doesn’t require tiresome charging.

Why does the point have to be changed regularly?Depending on use and the properties of your device’s display or its protective film, the point may be worn away over time. The point can be replaced very quickly and independently. Please follow the step-by-step instructions for replacing the point. The Noris digital comes with 5 replacement points and a tool for carrying out the replacement.

Are additional replacement points available? The Noris digital comes with 5 points and a tool to make their replacement easy. In addition, replacement points can also be purchased separately, to be found under ASIN B07QZ3XZ4Y or article number 18022 SN.

Will using the Noris digital scratch the display of my device? No. When the point becomes worn, you may feel a scratching sensation, but your device’s display will not be damaged. In this case, we recommend replacing the point.

I use this on my Remarkable 2 tablet and it works really well and it includes an eraser function. Much cheaper than the Remarkable stylus!

Took the plunge and got a remarkable 2 tablet, but refused to pay 109 for their fancy pen. The staedtler jumbo was less than half price, has everything the remarkable one (apart from being magnetic) has and looks cool as anything else on the market! The jumbo has the eraser, is ergonomical (triangular) and feels like the pencil itself. It’s a no brainier compared to the remarkable premium pen!

Old school pencil for the digital age!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI bought this at the same time as I bought the Boox Note Air 2 Plus, and I am so glad I did. One of the difficulties for me with eInk devices and tablets is that they feel so different to ‘real’ handwriting. This pen is so familiar though (as far as I can see the casing is identical to the Steadtler pencils we have all been using for years) that it feels so natural. It is tonnes better than the stock pen that comes with the device and well worth buying.

This digital pen is amazing and works really well with the BOOX Note Air 2 Plus. The upgraded pen directly with BOOX was 189, so this nifty little one saved a fortune. Just a shame there is no magnet on it.

Love the look, love how it writes – looks and feels in the hand just like the pencil we are all familiar with but it’s a digital stylus. I really didn’t get on well with the Scribe pen as I just found it didn’t feel right in the hand and I wore the tips out so fast. Sure it doesn’t have the rubber that the Scribe premium pen has, but a) you can get the jumbo version of this pencil and that does have a rubber feature and b) I seem to make way less mistakes using this STAEDTLER stylus so it really doesn’t matter 🙂

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersBought it for use with remarkable. Works fine but not great. I don’t get the sensitivity of a genuine remarkable stylus, pencil graduations are harder to control, especially when holding at an angle. The jumbo is quite fat which makes angled use a bit of a challenge, maybe I just have to get used to it.

The other thing to mention is that there is a rubbery feel to the nib, there’s a bit of resistance as you drag along the surface of the remarkable. It’s not the same tactile feedback as a regular stylus, not a bad thing, just different.

And finally, this stylus is not magnetic, you have to carry it separate to your remarkable, do there is a greater potential to mislay it.

All in all its ok, works fine, but there’s no way on earth it’s worth 50 quid! You’re paying for the name.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersSimple functional ergonomic design. The slightly fatter Jumbo version feels comfortable in hand to draw and write with., The tip of this has a slight rubbery feel so it doesn’t quite feel or sound like writing with pencil on paper but offers good resistance on the screen without gliding. Responds well to pressure and tilt when drawing. If I was to be picky, I would say, the strokes are not consistent when shading using the pencil mode on Re2, especially at very low pressure but this is the case with the Lamy pen too. Unlike the Lamy however, the eraser on this works on the Re2, straight out of the box albeit with a set aperture size. A lid may have helped keep the top safe but not a big deal. Lamy when mounted with the Re2 original pen tip, has a touch more resistance on screen, noticeable when taking notes fast but not by much. The Re2 tip can’t be mounted on this. Overall, good pen to use with Re2 especially if you like the eraser function at the back of the pen rather than choosing the eraser on the tablet every time. It is pricey for what it is but very reasonable compared to the Re2 pen!

Got this instead of paying for the pricey ReMarkable stylus. Apart from it being a bit chunky, my husband loves the nostalgia of the design. Don’t really miss the lack of the eraser feature that the other stylus’ have. Would recommend…

If your looking for a nostalgia hot and you love doing digital art then this pencil/pen is definitely the one got this for someone and they much prefer it over the original s pen that came with there s6 lite. Only one tiny gripe I wish it had a magnet as its quite easily misplaced but other than that it’s amazing.

  11. BrendanZ71 says:

The pencil is really nice to work with when you have you screen protector also changed to pencil like texture. However the pen tip needs to be recycled every week if you use your pad for art works.

Using this on my Remarkable 2 instead of the original and love it. Not only is it less than half the price, but I think the writing experience is superior and the shape means it doesn’t keep rolling away. Only downside is its not magnetic.

Really feels good on your hand and easy to draw with. Makes you feel like a real pencil. So far not much resistance and good to write with.

  14. Anonymous says:

     United Kingdom

There’s something to be said for writing and drawing with a familiar feel. Staedtler appear to have a sensible and pragmatic solution for those of us who haven’t quite adapted to the lust of newer, ‘ergonomic’ designs. In the hand, you could be forgiven if you forgot you were using a stylus, particularly as the Noris digital carries the same styling as those pencils you used to use (or still do), at school.

The Noris digital comes with replacement nibs, although after numerous digital pages penned, I’ve yet to find the need to change. The frequency of change will of course depend on user habit.

The Noris digital stylus isn’t the cheapest stylus out there, and the hexagonal cross-section won’t be to everyone’s taste, however, it’s an excellent stylus that sits proudly next to the Onyx Boox Note Air II it was purchased for.

    5/5 stars.

Excellent for use with my Samsung Tablet. Doesn’t need charged. Much nicer to hold than the S-pen. The “rubber” at the top is often more convenient than the button on the s-pen for deleting – which can often be pressed by mistake. I also prefer the tip of the stylus – think it has a nicer level of resistance than the S-pen (that might be personal preference though).

The tip on my sPen broke while using it and after some research this I what I decided on. For a start the design is great. Do you like drawing and wright in pencil? Then this is a great choice. Nice and light, like a pencil. With it essentially being a shroud for the wacom unpowered stylus there was no paring involved.

Thought I’d try this on a whim as a YouTube video suggested all EMR styluses (styli?) should work with the new Kindle Scribe. And it does! What a pleasure! Unfortunately it’s just a little too slender to fit securely within the pen holder on the scribe case, but otherwise what a glorious experience. Aesthetically the staedtler design is superb and it has a lovely feel. Maybe not QUITE as lovely as the official scribe premium pen, but it’s close enough. And it looks so so cool.

The S-pen replacement arrived quickly (ordered Friday evening/arrived Monday morning) and works perfectly. My S6 Lite recognised it immediately and it works just as it should. It feels good in your hand when writing and gives sufficient feedback. I think I’m going to enjoy using this.

You can find videos on YouTube comparing different S-Pen alternatives. This one usually scores well … and is the least expensive. But personal preference always plays a part in this type of review, so it seems as if many reviewers rate this well according to this subjective measure.

My only concern is to find a cover for the nib end as I know from experience (!) that the nibs can break off if dropped … and if there’s nothing left to grip, you can’t replace the nib. At the moment I’m storing it in a desk tidy with the nib uppermost.

I lost the original pen for a boox e-reader. I was reluctant to have to spend so much to replace it. Eventually I chose the STAEDTLER Noris digital jumbo. The nib is very fine and more precise than the original pen. It glides across the screen and I prefer it to writing on paper. I also find it more comfortable to hold although this is more of a personal preference. It has turned my e-reader from a useful tool with limitations, into an absolute delight to write on.

  25. Anonymous says:

This was bought as a replacement for a much more expensive stylus which had disintegrated at the nib within two years. I was concerned that this Staedtler, as a cheaper alternative, may not work, but it works perfectly! If anything, the tip is sharper and firmer than the expensive predecessor so it has a more precise feel. It will now be interesting to see how long the tips last in comparison.

I do particularly like the styling with a look and feel exactly like a conventional pencil.

I separately ordered a pack of replacement tips only to find, as a pleasant surprise, that six spare tips come with the stylus – so that should keep me going for quite a while.

It looks the part. It writes well enough. The eraser function works a dream(!).

And it comes with half a dozen free nibs.

    Excellent value.

But it doesn’t feel as good to write with as the original unfortunately.

So 5/5 for fantastic value and an eraser function that is simply fantastic.

I’m only docking it a point to make people aware that it does not write the same. Personal preference only.

Apparently it can take the nibs of the original. I will try that when I eventually get through all the nibs this one provides.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI recently bought the standard size Staedtler stylus for use with my new Remarkable 2 rather than paying the rather extortionate price for the OEM stylus. This stylus is awesome, the weight and size are exactly the same as a normal pencil, even the material its made from feels like a normal wood pencil.

I feel like I would have like the eraser on the end but didn’t want the extra bulk of the jumbo model so skipped that, I can still erase manually, but I’ve found myself a few times naturally try to just flip the pencil around to erase!

The nibs seem to be fine, some say they aren’t as good as the original Remarkable ones, but I haven’t tried so couldn’t say. I’m contemplating grabbing some Remarkable ones and trying to fit them (some reviews say the Remarkable ones are slightly bigger so need cutting a little to fit).

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersAfter struggling to find replacement nibs for the Samsung Tab S6 Lite (wanting original Samsung nibs) I thought it would be better to purchase a replacement stylus that I could get original nibs for. After much deliberation, I thought I would try this stylus. The deciding factor over the cheaper sibling was the material (I didn’t want the wood one because I’m so clumsy) and this one comes with the eraser function that is lacking in the cheaper version.
So, let’s start with the material, It feels sturdy enough and light-weight with a soft, almost rubberized texture over a plastic, wood effect. The eraser also has a rubberish feel to it giving it just the right amount of friction when using the eraser on the screen without a screen protector (this may feel different on a plastic screen protector)
The nib appears to be harder than the S6 lite stylus nib. I like this and it travels smoothly on the screen. My daughter, who uses her S6 Lite for art feels that it is slightly too hard for her liking.
Performance. From experience this will vary greatly depending on the app you use and the tablet you are using this on. On the S6 lite I predominantly use it on an app called Inkredible and it works without any issue at all. I’ve used it on samsung notes and MS one note, both without any issue albeit MS one note stated to slow down on a page full of notes.
On a side note (no pun intended) this stylus fits nicely in my glasses case and therfore goes everywhere with me. It came with 5 spare nibs and I purchased a further 5 replacement nibs at the time of purchase. If you are looking for a replacement S pen stylus, this is well worth it. The only issue, which affects all s-pens is that some apps don’t use the eraser function.

I am using this on a Galaxy Tab and have no issues whatsoever, it is the best extra I have purchased for it. It feels much better to write and draw with and the nibs are very smooth. You get a decent amount of spares too. Wouldn’t want to be without it for note taking. It also works with my Samsung phone so only need one pencil. It doesn’t have all the additional buttons but I have no need for them anyway. No charging is much better for me.

I just can’t believe how smooth, precise and natural this ‘pencil’ feels! And it’s body is wooden! That gives also nice organic vibe.

What I like the most is way less resistance when gliding on the screen surface<3 Writing with original NotePRO 12.2's S-Pen feels like writing with an eraser and it's quite exhausting. But this! It's a game changer. Feels like a PILOT G1, smooth and waaay more precise too - while I struggle to maintain my writing style when using S-Pen, it's a bliss with Staedtler Noris digital, comes naturally without me even trying. Don't know why Staedtler tracks my writing style MUCH better, maybe it's something to do with the length of the stylus. Whatever the reason, it's simply a few times better with tracking my writing style. Amazingly accurate!

Much better than original S-Pen included with Galaxy NotePRO 12.2. I'm so happy I grabbed that one. Strongly recommended!

I had trouble with the stylus that came with my Wacom One DTC133 and decided to look up compatible pens – which the Noris was one of the recommended.

The stylus is light weight, comfortable and easy to use. There’s no driver to download, it worked straight out the box.

Compared to the Wacom stylus, the Noris feels much more sensitive to input and gives a more gentle, natural feel whilst drawing.

As I have motor control issues – I was worried this would be too stressful on my hand. It was not. I was able to draw comfortably for 2+ hours.

Pencil edge sometimes scratches against the surface of remarkable; this doesn’t damage the tablet but means that it can feel quite rough when you’re writing with it.

The pencil works best when the nib is pointing directly towards the surface of the tablet, rather than edgeways.

Sometimes the sensitivity is a bit off, for example, when highlighting sections, some parts are missed.

  35. MackB57ptxbf says:

I use this far more often the S-Pen on my device. It’s far more comfy (Soft, not too thin), and above anything else: no S button. No carefully holding the pen to make sure I don’t accidentally press it and interrupt my stroke with the invasive airmenu or some other unexpected action. Less truly is more, and the S pen proper can remain a remote.

It’s slightly different in feel to the S pen when writing – it perhaps defaults to a slightly harder pressure? But it feels insanely good. The eraser works a treat in most applications, and you can see where it is official supported from the manufacturer website if it needs to work in a specific app for you.

Tiny drawback: It’s not always with you (unlike S-pen). But I always have it in my pen holder in my bag now.

I accidentally ruined my stylus for the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite, by putting it in with my clothes on a wash cycle, so needed a replacement. Didn’t want to pay rip off prices for an exact match, so thought I’d try this. Honestly wishing I’d washed my original one sooner, as this one is so much better! Feels more sturdy, has the grip of a real pencil, the pressure sensitivity is at-least as good, and it even came with a set of spare nibs with a replacement tool. The only niggle is that it’s bigger, so doesn’t fit in my folio case like the original one does (not really something to complain about). Would definitely buy again!

I have a Remarkable 2 tablet that comes with a marker to use with it, but I wanted to have a cheaper spare stylus that I could use in case anything happened. I love the feel of the stylus, as someone who is used to writing with a pencil the shape is lovely in my hand. It works flawlessly with my device, and as my remarkable marker stopped working properly, this has literally saved my grades. The tip does feel a little rubbery against the screen, a bit like writing on glass which I don’t like that much, but if you are looking for a really good stylus that has a nice price and is reliable then this product is for you.

  38. GonzaloGain says:

This is a very lightweight stylus. I’m using it with my Galaxy Tab S6 and the extra length and diameter compared to the S Pen that comes with it make it much easier to use. I also like the fact that it doesn’t need charging and there’s no annoying button on the side to keep accidentally pressing. The Air Gestures and button are pointless gimmicks in my opinion, so I don’t miss them at all. It also works great on my Note20 Ultra. Mine came with the spare tips and extractor tool, as advertised.

If the price had been more reasonable then I would have given 5 stars. I’d love to try the thicker version too, but the price is even more silly.

This stylus is fantastic with the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite. Very accurate, the design is thin and pleasant to hold and use, and the extra nibs are a great final touch! Although I initially bought this as I wanted a stylus without the annoying button like that on the original stylus, I admit that I miss having a quick erasor function. Perhaps if a button is placed someone more functional this stylus would be pretty much perfect for the price. Each nib lasts much longer than that of the original Tab S6 Lite stylus.
    Very satisfied overall.

… if this gets mixed up with your pencil collection you’re goosed – someone will either chew on it or pare it !! It’s so like an ordinary pencil. If your background is old school draughting – well you won’t be disappointed with the look and feel of this.

I bought Staedtler as an emergency replacement for the default Remarkable stylus and it works perfectly for writing/ rough sketching on the Remarkable. You don’t get that “scratchy” paper feel as you do with the Remarkable stylus – it’s much softer – which some Remarkable people may not like. Be warned though – my box of supplied Remarkable tips won’t work in this stylus but you might have better mileage with your particular device.

Overall I’m very pleased with this – my only crib is with the supplied tip cover – it looks like an after thought and to be honest for the cost of the stylus I expected a bit better.

I bought this before I bought the original S Pen for a used Galaxy Tab S6. And, having bought the original S Pen, I decided I could only give this 4 stars for one reason – that lack of a magnetic mount. As far as its usability when writing or drawing goes, it’s perfect, at last as good as the S Pen. Indeed, in some aspects it’s superior – it’s longer and has more of a hexagonal form factor rather than round or flat. And who can’t say that the fact that it’s identical to the graphite versions doesn’t make it feel just a little more special? As a writing and drawing tool, I think it’s arguably the best pen out there. I just wish there was some way to attach it to the tablet when I was done with it. Unfortunately, it doesn’t even fit in the space in the back when the case is on.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersBought this to use on the Samsung Notes series phone and the Tab S6, and the pen works as directly replacement without having to pair the devices up. The only caveat is that on the phones, you have to either remove the original pen from the phone first, or set a setting on the phone to allow multiple pens to work. Otherwise the phone will think your pen is still in the slot and won’t try to detect it on the screen to save power. It is a compromise between battery life vs convenience.

In use, it is as accurate as the original pens. I do miss not having the side button as the erase button, or as a short cut to start an app though.

I do like the familiar pencil shape, which is easier to hold than the original pens. If it had the side button, it will be perfect and would have got the full 5 stars. As it is, I still like it and would use it whilst at the desk.

I dislike the packaging, as the pen is just loose in a flimsy box that was crushed twice by DHL.
The pen just works, there is nothing needed to be done.
It’s similar to Note8 pen in performance, just lacking the button, which is not really needed for sketching or drawing.
The pen also worked on Samsung Note 10.4 2014 edition and did not work on Wacom Cintiq 16, as suspected (different technologies, it seems, but should work on Wacom One screen).
The pen feels plastic, like composite of wood pulp and glue. Not close to real wood pencil, that I would have liked.

I bought this to use with the reMarkable tablet I have. And must say it Is excellent. I use it for general use, writing and some sketches. I have no issues with the reMarkable stylus but sometime I’m going to lose it and this stylus is a third of the price. It is not as fast as the remarkable stylus showing slight but noticeable drag on medium biro which is the setting I use most. The transparent acrylic pen top is badly designed and will break soon as the acrylic is already fracturing. The nibs are thinner and harder than the reMarkable version and so loose some of the paper feel. Five spares come with the stylus. They are not interchangeable with the reMarkable ones and have been reported as being more fragile.

The feel and weight are excellent I can highly recommend this stylus and would have said 5* if not for the acrylic pen top.

Cost: Got for 17 – much cheaper than most other EMR (electromagnetic resistance) styli on the market. Makes it very good value for money.

Quality/Aesthetics: Hexagonally shaped the same as a normal Norris pencil would be so is much more comfortable than my laptop’s included stylus. The pencil has a wooden core with the tip being an EMR compatable screen “lead” like tip and a clear cap to protect the end. Comes with replacement tips and a tool to change them.

In Use: Works direct out of the box with my Lenovo Model 500e Chromebook 2nd Generation despite not being included on the compatability list (you will need to check your device’s screen is an EMR screen). As it is thicker than the included stylus and sized/weighted like a normal pencil, I find it much easier to write/draw/sketch with. In particular the included “lead” like tips are much smoother than most other stylus and as a result it glides over the screen.

First impression as I only received it today.

So far, it works like a charm. I bought it for two reasons. 1. To have a spare for the Lenovo Real Pen (note: this cannot be used with ink). 2. Because I find the Real Pen makes my hand ache.

Oh did I say just two reasons? 3. Brings back memories of my late dad using the original pencil to work out calculations for his DIY projects, although they always ended up as a stub lol.

I’ve got no art skills yet want to get my money’s worth out of the YB so I recently downloaded the MyScript Nebo App (only works with certain devices) to take handwritten notes and convert them to text. In case anyone is considering this app, it isn’t free but it does work well on the YB create pad, although I wouldn’t recommend the app if using the Real Pen with ink on paper. I digress.

This pen(cil) doesn’t make that annoying tap tap tap sound and feels smoother when writing. I realised I was concentrating more on the (Lenovo) pen than the app. Noris (I know – we’re on first name terms) is quiet and really comfortable to hold.

I only received it today so please remember this is a first impression.

Bonus. The colour makes it easy to spot if it’s been dropped or you’ve put it down somewhere.

PS Bought and paid for with my own money.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersI have the older style S-pens on a Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 tablet and Galaxy Note 4 mobile. This Staedtler digital pencil is a huge step up from those S-pens. The Staedtler has a much, much finer nib and there is far less resistance when drawing on the screen, but still enough resistance to stop the pencil ‘skating’ across the screen. The finer nib also allows me to more easily see the line that I’m drawing making it a much more accurate drawing tool. The calibration of the Staedtler is exactly the same as my S-pen so no offset at all. It is also very light in weight for a digitial pencil (9g) compared to a normal pencil (approx. 4g). This is as close as I’ve got to the sensation of drawing with a real pencil on a digital screen!
The big step up in performance from the older style S-pens, makes this Staedtler pencil worth the significant 35 investment I paid for it. The nib on the Staedtler is similar (but not interchangeable) to the nibs on the newer Samsung S-pens for the Tab S3, so if you have one of those, there won’t be such a big step up in performance and therefore you will just get the feel of a pencil in your hand rather than a pen. Also, the Staedtler doesn’t have a button like the S-pens, so this will be an important consideration if you like to use the button functions regularly. I can confirm that you do get spare nibs with the Staedtler pencil if you buy it direct from Amazon.
I have to say that I am absolutley loving the massively improved drawing experience of the Staedtler, hence the five stars, even though the price is a bit steep at 35.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThis is an amazing stylus. I use it on my Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and my Samsung Tab S3.
It’s so much better to sketch with than the small s pen with the Note 8 and the large one that comes with the Tab S3, My writing is also a lot more accurate and true to my actual writing on paper.
It feels so comfortable in the hand, just like any pencil many of us are familiar with. This will really help with your art work.
The lack of a clip is a bit of an issue so I will keep it at home rather than risk loosing it when out and about unless I specifically venture out to do a sketch. I’m looking at those lovely leather stylus pouches you can pick up, handy for this and my other ones.

This came with spare nibs and the removal tool. There’s a cap which many are guaranteed to loose as it’s clear plastic. I would recommend getting something to replace it if you do as it is needed to keep the delicate tip safe.
I will definitely purchase a spare as I can see this becoming an essential tool for my amateur art and I wouldn’t want to be without it if I loose it.
