Scythe gives players almost complete control over their fate. The only elements of luck or variability are ‘encounter’ cards which provide the player with several options, to mitigate the luck of the draw through their selection.

    Good expansion but was missing parts. I suspect the entire Amazon batch will be the same so if you’re missing the additional plastic tokens etc. You should look on the publishers website to get those sent out.

    I brought this game for a Christmas present for my wife and I. The game is great. The ending is NEVER the same.

    I would suggest this to any young adults as a go to games night game!

    Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis is a really great board game. Ordered it the same night after I played it for the first time. It has quite a few rules that are hard to explain. But you learn about them quickly enough as you play the game. The game presents lots of different ways of achieving objectives which gives a chance to play many different strategies. Only downside I will mention is the digital version of the game is just as good and only costs 20. The board game tends to be about 65 and you get the same. Arguably digital is better as you always have that on computer and can play online. But you cannot use Wind Gambit and Fenris expansion with digital version. So all depends on what gamer wants.

    Fantastic games with quality components.
    Takes a while to pick up, but the rule book is excellent and there are plenty of YouTube playthrough videos you can watch to help you along.

    Would definitely recommend

    This is a fantastic game. There seems to be a lot to take in when you first start especially playing solo. But its well worth the time. The production quality is fantastic and holds up well, even when your bengal cat decides they want to ‘help’.

    It was a gift for my brother, he loves it!.. I’m not a board game person but I actually really enjoyed it, although it is complicated to learn/teach, but once learned it’s good and peices are well made

    Stonemaier is my favourite board game publisher and this doesn’t let the side down. Perfect balance of growth, strategy. For a game that is set at war time, the urge to settle the conflicts off the board and not on it is such a good element. The desire to be strong and conquer balanced with the fact that it affects your end game multipliers is perfect. An addictive game and the only game I have played with a campaign sheet. Where every time I take it out the box I can see the past victories and who has accomplished what. My favourite game of all time

    What to say about it?I really love this game and the fine eye to detail in every single part of it. The illustration is just stunning and represents perfectly the thematic of the game. It is not that complicated once you understand the basics and it works perfectly with two players. Some people say that there is not much interaction…well…this depends in how do you want to play. I did not play Rise of Fenris yet but it is impressive the graphic design too and the packaging. Fine eye to detail. Although some people might consider this expensive…I do not think it is…making this profitable with the quality of the materials, printing, etc…is nearly impossible, and they are doing well. For me 8.5 over 10, not much to complain about. I would totally recommend this game if you like strategy games and think a bit. Games are not that long, so far something between 1,5 and 2.15 hours.

    Golden Review Award: 13 From Our UsersI already own Wingspan so was super eager to invest in more Stonemaier games, and this was on my wish list for a while. It was an excellent purchase.

    The artwork is stunning, the board and all the cards are exceptional quality/feel. You are paying for the brand and the quality.

    It’s not easy to learn- had to watch a couple of YouTube videos along the way as sometimes the instructions were heavy going/hard to visualise or understand what was meant to occur. But after the 2nd play through it suddenly clicked and became more enjoyable rather than a scramble of un-knowingness.

    The turn structure is similar to wingspan so if you have already played this- it will be easier to pick up and learn. I love the character variations and different abilities and the ways in which you can play the game. Looking forward to purchasing some expansions to add more depth to the game.

    Also: don’t be overwhelmed by the amount of items/cards/meeples you have to set up the game. It looks a lot but it is easy to pick up and learn what goes where.

    Amazing Game!

    Such an intricate and deep game. Endlessly fun and engaging. The depth of play, the way the game is almost entirely in your hands, and the whole style of it just makes it a pleasure.
    Has quickly become a favorite among me and my friends.

    Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersImagine Catan and Risk had a boardgame baby. This is it.

    Awesome steampunk, alternative reality Europa theme with fantastic game play.

    It’s an engine building game with tonnes of strategy and multiple ways to try and win. It’s not a straight out domination game, but a slow burn strategy game with levels of complexity that both Risk and Catan are missing.

    You can form alliances between nations which I think would make it more family friendly.

    It looks super complicated the first time you set it up. But the mechanics are simple and elegant making it easy to pick up and play from the first go.

    Have tried a few Stonemaier games and they are brilliant.

    You need to be aware what it is that you are buying. It is just the storage box for Scythe and its expansions and it doesn’t offer anything else.
    As much as I like it and enjoy to have my game packed in one box, it bugs me that it lacks any “factory” solution to store all the stuff inside. There are three storage boxes inside but you need to come up with ideas how to store everything there.

    Nice coins, a little lighter than I was expecting but not too bad.

    The only major complaint is they don’t really match style between them. One is like a Chinese coin, the 3s are western lettering with a polish kind of feel, the 5s have an almost Russian look. The 10s have viking like runes, 20s are Western lettering with a German flair. It would be nice just to have a matching flavour to them.

    Overall they are way nicer than using plastic, they make a nice clinking sound when they hit eachother.

    Golden Review Award: 15 From Our UsersMy family and I love playing board games and play games like Settlers of Catan, Pandemic and Risk to name but a few. So, when I learnt about Scythe I thought this would be a great addition to our collection of board games.
    Thankfully I wasn’t wrong. Scythe is an excellent game and enjoyable to play, so anyone who enjoys playing boardgames will love this. However, you need to do your research on the rules and I would recommend watching a couple of videos on YouTube that both go through the games general play and then watch how it’s played in real time. That way you are clear on the rules.
    I played it yesterday with my daughter (14) and we both loved it. We both had different strategies and although it looked like I was winning when we added up our scores I actually lost.
    The game looks amazing as well. The art work is beautiful and the playing pieces create excitement when playing. Once you have mastered the rules it’s easily a top 5 game of all time.
    Would I recommend this game? YES I WOULD.

    OK. This game is complicated but to be honest by the end of the second game we’d all got it.

    It’s a game of strategy and imagination; Chess meets Risk meets Cluedo with elements of D&D thrown in.

    The cards and the models (pieces) are superb.

    It is a beautiful idea wonderfully delivered.

    To begin I must make it clear that I’m OBSESSED with Scythe, there, got that off my chest.

    This follows the usual Stonemaier format of excellent production values resulting in high quality packaging and components. The airships are stunning and the rules are clear.

    I would suggest that you only really consider this if you have the board extension as the territories become extremely cluttered with the additional units.

    As for gameplay, the ships are a force multiplier and are a subtle way of adding another dimension to the core game. I think this is aimed more at the veterans of Scythe who want to inject new life into their games rather than newbies.

    On the whole another good addition to the game but, of all the expansions, this is the one you could buy last.

    I recommend this product.

    Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI bought this for my 7 year old for Christmas, but me and my partner have had just as much fun playing it ourselves! It can seem a little tricky to get to grips with out of the box – this put some of my family members who were less experienced with board games off – but the instructions are very clear, and once you grasp the basic rules it’s actually very straightforward to play with lots of replay-ability. I think “Automountie” is a great feature, and I love that it gives you the option to make it a “co-op” game by playing against the game itself, playing against the game single player or use it to add an extra player to a two player game to make things more interesting/challenging. The game itself is beautifully designed. Everything about it feels very high quality and the cute, little playable characters are very well made. Perfect for both younger gamer or older ones who are newer to strategy – we are now looking to buy the adult version of Scythe for ourselves!

    This is a beautiful game. The imagery is brilliant. The game is interesting but not the battle game the imagery suggests. We’ve played it a few times and have also bought the expansions. Once we’ve played those we’re going to implement some of the house rules on the Stonemeier website. Definitely worth buying.

    Have played this 5 times on game night and can’t get enough, I got the expansion ‘Invaders from afar’ as it gave an extra two factions. Not for the 7 players mode but gives more variety and it is really useful. Game does play within the time frame which is great as we always compete it in good time on game night. It’s a slow burner and can take awhile before you know if you are doing well but it adds to the flavor and ensures everyone is in the game in the end. 5 stars and

    You get so much for your money in this expansion! There is limited replayability in the campaign but you can still play it couple of times with diff number of players as it is not legacy and it would still be fun. Plus, you can use any of the modules included in the box on its own when you play the base game.

    The rules are not complicated at all as they are based on the core game. Each of the episodes adds just one or two modules to the game at a time, so you can learn all of them while playing the campaign. There are also sutoma rules included if you fancy playing alone or just increasing the number of players to have more fun (this mode is not described in the rulebook but you can easily find guidelines in the net).

    Golden Review Award: 67 From Our UsersFirst of all, I’m a 58 year old Modeller/Wargamer, in the past playing 20mm WW2, D&D and later Warhammer fantasy when the kids got older (I also had Steve Jackson’s original edition of OGRE, long lost during house moves).

    In the last 10 or so years I have gotten back into gaming, Axis and Allies Naval and Air Miniatures, X-Wing Miniatures. Also Munchkin, which my wife loves!

    So what made me buy this game? Well, obviously the production is superb, Jakub Rozalski’s artwork is stunning. I like the ‘alternative’ history style of setting for the game, and the fact it had a set of rules for solo play. It is worth looking at ‘Lines42’ Automa tutorial on YouTube, as well as his tutorial for the game itself.
    First thing you notice is the box is hefty, full to the brim of quality components. Unwrapping all the card and unpunching all the counters takes a while. The playing Board is good quality and warp free, always a good sign.
    This game at first seems very complicated, but it’s not, just very involved, with a lot of aspects to the play. It takes a while to set up, even in ‘Solo mode’, but once you pick through the various rules it plays fairly quickly, but it does take time to remember EVERYTHING you have to resolve and be aware of, whilst playing.
    I won’t go into the gameplay because there are a wealth of videos online. I’m just going to say that, once you pick up the movement rules for the ‘Automa’ player (that is, your game driven opponent) this is a satisfying game, even though I haven’t beaten it yet, and that’s on the easy setting! Tactics and strategy is the key here, something I have yet to master, but this game will entertain those who only play once in a while and appreciate quality. Buy it.

    Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersA brilliant board game. Takes a while to learn but isn’t too difficult to teach others how to play. Each game is usially an hour or two in length and we’ve found it best eith 3-4 players though it’s still grrat with 2-5 (yet to try solo). You definitely need a 4-person table to be able to play comfortably though!

    Overall a great, good quality and well-made board game that appeals to a wide range of people. Can’t wait to get the expansions!

    Golden Review Award: 16 From Our UsersA brilliant game, providing hours of enjoyment for anyone who enjoys strategy and/or resource management games.

    This game is filled with mechanics which, on there own, are quite simple. However, together they form a complex system, which must be considered carefully to maximise your efficacy on the board. direct player interaction is limited but meaningful, with each encounter playing an important role in the game as a whole.

    Although the rules may seem labyrinthine to begin with, I found that after one playthrough and a little guidance, most of my friends and family members have been able to work out how to play, and have needed no/little help in subsequent games.

    The look and feel of the game is excellent, with amazing artwork, miniatures and resources. The cards are all appropriately sized, and the cardboard tokens are robust. The amount of coins in higher denominations seems unnecessarily large for regular gameplay, however if you like to use them to keep track of score at the end then they are very useful.

    If I had one criticism, it would be that there are too many different game mechanics and one or two could be removed to make a more streamlined game.

    On the whole, this is an excellent board game, providing a strategic challenge with the minimum (but very enjoyable) amount of randomness.

    Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersScythe is not so much a game as a way of life! I was looking for something a little different with a strong strategy element. It comes with high quality components including figures that can be painted to give the presentation something special.

    There are also a great range of expansions and additions that can add to your gaming experience. Check out the tutorials on YouTube and the Scythe Facebook page.

    Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersFantastic game, can be a bit tricky to pick up all the rules and quirks with playing but after a few goes you are off and soon its mech on mech warfare and a battle for the factory. Love the encounters that can take places especially the choice of that one mean move that seems to get you lots! I love that just because you do not have all your stars on the board you are not out of the game at the end and can still win. This game will stay in my collection and I will be getting any expansions too!

    Golden Review Award: 15 From Our UsersScythe Invaders from afar – good addition for original Scythe board game if You has 6-7 players in one time.

    It has balanced rules for playing more then 5 players. For example if You are playing 6 or 7 players, You must change Crimea and Polania (from original game) ability.

    New expirience in game for two new factions is good. New abilities of traps posibilities from Togawa Shogunate is interesting thing and Clan Albion’s Flag posibility gave unexpected game end results.

    Inside box threre are:
    – Rule books for automa game and for two new nations;
    – All faction components for Togawa and Albion:
    — Faction Mats;
    — Action token;
    — Popularity token;
    — Power token;
    — Star tokens;
    — Structure tokens;
    — Recruit tokens;
    — Mecth miniatures;
    — Character miniatures;
    — Workers;
    — Technology cubes;
    — Cardboard tokens;
    – Punchboard (where You take – carboards, new 50 $ money sign and new abilities for game with 6-7 players;
    – Some plastic bags for organizer.

    About box – You would not be able to fit it inside original box without power or with all game components. But all components without box goes inside original box without problems at all.

    Good addition for original Scythe board game

    Golden Review Award: 18 From Our Users*Disclaimer: I have only played this once so far*

    Initial impressions are that this is a great game, we played as 3 people, all keen board gamers and found it really engaging. A bit like Mah Jong the set-up and rules took a while to sort out first time around but once you get started the complex looking set-up is actually nicely intuitive and follows a logical order.

    The design of the board feels like an amalgamation of Catan, 7 Wonders and Risk; all pretty strong games! The pieces of my (standard) version are plastic but feel substantial enough not to detract from the fact it isn’t the metal collectors edition (these more specialist pieces can be bought separately). There are piece for up to 5 players, with 7 factions actually allowed on the board, this will presumably allow for expansion in the future if needed.

    Each faction has their own special ability, with a randomly assigned second player board giving even more replayability. I feel with more games under our belts we’ll really get into the different strategies you can employ to get the most out of the design (and win of course).

    Overall I’m looking forward to playing this again as it feels like there are so many ways to play and different iterations with the different factions.
