Not had any wifi issues since installing this product. Previously couldn’t watch a programme without it buffering in my bedroom due to the wifi not reaching there. Haven’t had any issues since

This item works. I have Now Broadband and the coverage is no good with the standard modem.

Plug this in on the middle floor, coverage all over. Easy to set up, good instructions, can’t fault it.

Have been using this device for over 1 year to solve issue with poor range from BT home hub – but was not convinced the Samsung TV was connecting to it over WiFi – so after many attempts at setting up the TV I just purchased a 5m patch cable and stuck the cable in the socket on device – instant results ! Don’t know why I didn’t do this a year ago

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI am a gamer. I am an angry gamer. Lag makes me angry. This for being so cheap has been perfect for me. It has boosted my signal strength from 50 percent only doing 70mbps to 100 percent now doing 140mbps. I promise once you are using this if you are lagging it isnt the signal strength but your actual wifi. Its so good i am able to still get 3-4 bars of signal ion my phone in my neighbours garden.

The half of the house with weak wi-fi signal is a thing of the past now. It’s a bit pricey but it works really well. It was easy to set up and, so far, it has worked flawlessly. Well done TP Link!

I bought a cheap 15 extender and tried the more expensive Eero. Neither improved the range into a dead spot in my apartment. I tried this extender and it’s perfect. I get full strength and full speed at the other end of my apartment where reception was patchy. I found the extender easy to set up through the app. 5*

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersBought this because my old WiFi extender was on its last legs. Got it at a steal on prime day to. Very easy to set up, great access through the app. I have a really good signal everywhere I go. I have a man cave out in the garden about 10 metres from the booster, the ring cam out there runs great now off this extender. Good WiFi everywhere now. Would definitely recommend it.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersI was looking for something to get rid of my Wi-Fi dead zones in our house. I went for this little monkey that should’ve been a lot of money but reduced in the Amazon sale (by half)
I cannot believe what’s happened as a sceptic of these things being very effective. My whole house has top signal everywhere but not only that I can go right to the bottom of our garden which is very long and get a full signal too! (Both 2.4ghz and 5ghz) It’s amazing how brilliant this is. All I will say is get one if your frustrated with your internet dead spots you’ll never have to suffer again!!!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersOrdered 2, one works fine but the other only seems to register the 2.4GHz signal and not the 5GHz signal. Not an issue with my particular use case as I’m just using that one to extend baseline signal to cover an outdoor CCTV, but worth being aware of.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI had the cheaper 20 model initially to test the concept and it worked a little, but this bad boy is serious kit, it extends the network all over the garden where the other model would not even get past the house. It does look a little like an alien stuck in the plug socket but works so well that can be easily ignored. Excellent value for something that actually does what it says.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI moved into a new house recently and signed up to Virgin Media as wanted decent internet speeds. All good, but it didn’t reach my downstairs bathroom. I’ve bought extenders before and they didn’t really work, or were horribly unreliable. I decided to pay a bit more and the gamble paid off. This thing is great! My entire 3 bedroom house now has 250 mbps+ everywhere. The set up was pretty straightforward, although it’s easier with the app.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersI like to write realistic reviews rather than “it’s brilliant”. I live in a new build 2 bedroom house, my main router is located by the front door, our internet speed is usually 500mbps. When at the back of the house or upstairs I usually get around 90-120mbps, with the booster installed in back bedroom upstairs, I’m now getting about 350mbps, massive improvement, this will extend to the back garden also with speeds around 250+ mbps. Very easy to install using the app. I run all devices off the booster now as it’s much better quality speed. Super impressed with this booster considering it’s only 59.99

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersGetting a decent enough signal for my laptop in the office now (garage conversion with lots of brickwork). Was struggling to get 200 meg before and was getting dropouts/high latency. Now getting 350 meg with no dropouts and low latency.

P.S. To use the 160mhz band you will have to manually add the SSID and network password. For some reason, it didn’t auto-find it.

I’m actually relaying the 80mhz band from my tri-band router as reserve the 160hz for my gaming PC.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI have the little brother of this and it was just not quite strong enough to reach a shed in the garden we turned into guest accommodation. This one made it so most phones could connect but the Roku was still struggling. I set this one up as close to the garden as possible, set the 5Ghz to communicate with the router to boost the 2.4Ghz and took the other one and set it to connect to this one and that was enough to have the Roku happy as the signal strength was strong to the old one and these two could talk to each other well enough. I really wasn’t expecting it to work, as it’s not recommended to run them like this, but it has saved me the cost of running a buried cable or setting up ugly wifi dishes.

Upgraded from a cheaper extender we already had, as the signal wa very patchy. This extender provides a much more stable signal and has been fairly consistent so far – also at a reasonable price. The unit is quite bulky so bear this in mind! Otherwise it’s great!

The product gives us Wi-Fi for the majority of the second floor. It is a particularly difficult house to get Wi-Fi signal due to the wall thickness and the extender does a good job.
We don’t have fibre Wi-Fi though so it’s worth checking the top speeds achievable with this extender relative to your router.
The app is be try good – allows you to control when the extender is turned on. I like this feature as I have it automatically turn off during the night.

We live in a house with a random extension, tacked on the side of the house. As such, the walls are double thick and the wifi just doesn’t reach there. We had an old, cheap Tp extender, which was good enough for work, but not gaming. Now the kid is a teen and using the room for the PlayStation and online gaming, we needed a new extender. This is, no pun intended, a game changer. The WiFi on the extender is nearly as fast as being by the actual router. It’s easy to set up. You don’t need the app, just plug in by the WiFi router. Press the wps button on both, and they sink up. Done. Plug in where you need the extension and boom. WiFi everywhere. Highly recommended

I wasn’t sure if you could have 2 extenders in the house. So took a chance as I couldn’t find the answer.
We have one downstairs with _ext at the end of the name. I didnt know if this would be the same and therefore not work.
But when installing via the app (Only way I could figure out how to do it but I’m not a techie) and yes the default name is also _ext but I was able to add upstairs afterwards. It’s great. Almost like a nightlight too the blue light is so bright.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersI purchased the AC2600 (RE650) thinking it was an upgrade to the AC1900 (RE550) but it performs almost identically & in my opinion is not worth the extra money. I used it on a fiber connection & carried out random speed tests so I could compare both items. On each test the download speed on the AC2600 was slightly higher but the upload speed was lower on every test. So very little in the difference.
Its bulkier & the boot up time is slower than the AC1900 (RE550).

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI set up this unit in AP access point mode as I had a 100Mbps cable installed to the lounge and this TP-Link device was having a problem detecting a strong enough Wi-Fi signal from my NOW/SKY router. Easy to configure following instructions and the Wi-Fi 6 capability has TRANSFORMED the Wi-Fi performance for all our modern devices. We have gone from a few tens of megabits/sec to at least 150Mbps download on all devices. The TV now streams movies connected via Wi-Fi without any performance degradation despite multiple other devices streaming at the same time.
The new Wi-Fi 6 signal can also be received in all rooms of the house and in the garden.
The fact that the TP-Link would not detect the main router Wi-Fi signal (only 40 feet away) when configured as a repeater is a bit concerning, but as I do not need to use it like this I am happy in all other respects.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersMuch better than my old 2.5ghz extender, like the router, is assigns clients to 5ghz if possible.

Can’t give it 5 stars, as it totally went off the network last week after running for 2 weeks no problems and I had the kids moaning they had no internet, on and off worked, but in the admin panel there is no log view option so I cant see why it decided to dump itself off the LAN.

Has not given me any gib since the reboot though. Good extender. I would buy another one if I needed it.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersDelivery arrived on time today. I didn’t bother with the app stuff or the cloud stuff, just plugged it in, pressed the WPS on this and my tplink router and it’s ready to go.

I connect to it via a web browser to adjust any settings, so really no need for the app/cloud element unless you want to be able to connect to it via the internet when you are away from home.

I live an old Victorian house, very high ceilings and lots of walls (no open-plan here) and WiFi was patchy in the back and front bedrooms upstairs. I’ve plugged this on the landing upstairs and now have perfect high-speed WiFi throughout the house.

Definitely not the cheapest of options but works great and justifies the cost in my opinion.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI didn’t think I had an opinion on Wifi extenders but apparrently I do………………. So, our existing BT Hub was married up to three BT broadband extenders and they developed a fault after many years of service. So I couldn’t connect a work computer via the extenders and the signal in the 1st floor office was very week. While the original BT extenders were good for their time, they were a product OF their time, so limited in scope.

We bought the RE650 and as the box states “Works with any router”. We both work from home and in the past, both of our relevant I.T work related computers have thrown a major league paddy when we’ve introduced Wifi extenders and refused to connect, so to say I was dreading installing this is an understatement – I thought it would be madly stressful & nigh on impossible for anyone who didn’t have a PhD in information technology.

    I was wrong…………

There are easy to follow instructions (and not too many of them either), an App for your phone which is helpful and the RE650 basically finds iteslf and what’s connected to it in about 1 – 2 mins, and you can connect to the extender OR the router, whichever has the strongest signal. Apparently if the RE650 isn’t happy it flashes red meaning it can’t connect & needs relocating – a brilliant feature, so you know you’ve placed it in the right area.

We have a 3 bed semi, but with cast insitu concrete 1st floors so I was dubious about signal strength claims – but I am pleasantly surprised by just how powerful the signal is and by the fact that I didn’t need to link a work ‘hub’ to a repeater box via a cable anymore. The technology has improved and this is a VERY impressive piece of kit. Unless you need NASA levels of security clearance, I’d be very surprised if it didn’t work just about anywhere with any conventional home set up

Quite simply, this is essential for the home if you have a poor first floor signal.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersDoes exactly what is says on the tin.

I set this up with an ageing Apple Airport Extreme to give extra wi-fi coverage at the edge of our fairly large house, so that my wildlife cam in the woods at the bottom of our garden can pick up the home network.

Setup was perfectly straightforward, and the extender connected wirelessly to the existing network first time with no issues.

The Apple base station is located in the centre of the house, and the TP-Link extender sits 10 metres away inside the house on the other side of a solid wall, and next to a window that looks out onto the garden and woodland.

The app is telling me that there’s still sufficient signal strength to move the extender even further away from the Airport base station if needed, which means it’s doing a great job of maintaining a strong signal. This is despite not using a mesh setup, as the Apple base station isn’t mesh compatible.

My wildlife camera, which is in the woods about 30 metres away from the house, is now able to pick up a 55% wi-fi signal, which is more than I’d expected and good enough for me to be able to stream live video from the wildlife camera via my mobile phone in the house. Previously the camera in the woods couldn’t even see the wi-fi.

It also means our house gets a wi-fi boost, and with the same network name (SSID) set on both wi-fi units, connected devices in the house seem to roam between the two wi-fi stations, connecting to the strongest signal without issues.

Having experienced no issues at all with either setup or performance, I can only say how impressed I am with this TP-Link RE650 (AC2600) extender.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersNeat looking device and sits nicely in a plug socket, and still with enough room in a double wall socket to plug something in to the side of this. Looks good with all the blue LEDs alight! A bit of a faff to set up and it took me two or three attempts to set up, but once done I’ve just left it in the socket switched on. I’ve tested the WiFi speed throughout the house (the TP-Link is plugged in downstairs) and with 137Mb coming in to my hub, the lowest reading from hub to laptop was 122Mb, in my loft! Admittedly, I haven’t checked what it would be in the loft without the TP-Link on, but it looks like the TP-Link does its job!

    Looks promising

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI purchased this Wi-Fi extender to replace powerline networking I had set up in my garden office.
The powerline (another TP-Link product) worked well until I had re-wiring done in the house that put the main plug onto a different spur, which killed the network.
The normal Wi-Fi signal from my house router reads as two bars on my Win10 Laptop for both 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz signals. But throughput is low (fast.com reads at 10-20Mbps) and I was having occasional drop outs and having to reconnect in Windows.
Purchasing this has improved both situations drastically.
I have set the extender to use a different SSID adding “_Ext” to the end of the current one. I now have full strength signal and fast.com reports a speed of ~150Mbps. I have had no drop outs in Windows.

I have configured the extender the use the 5Ghz signal to my main router (rather than the slower 2.4Ghz connection) or using both because the speed did drop.

I have also turned off the mesh settings (both my router and this extender support Mesh). Although I loved the idea of this (one network and I can move my laptop back and forth without drop out) it isn’t a very robust system. The laptop seems to get confused with the main router and the extender signal, so it keeps dropping and reconnecting. Better for me to keep it switched off and use the “_EXT” setting.

Overall, I can highly recommend this as a booster.

Golden Review Award: 57 From Our UsersThe RE700X range extender works well, it is easy to setup with the Tether app, but there are other ways to setup using a web page. It is very similar to the outstanding RE605X (which I also own), which is the most impressive range extender I have previously encountered. The RE700X is a hefty extender, both in terms of height (150mm) and width (78mm) – it is 40mm proud of the socket, so ensure you have the room around the socket where you want to place it. The vents make it look like a vertical installation is desired for heat dissipation.

It picks up WiFi well from my Asus router and the extended WiFi from the RE700X is excellent in terms of range and speed. In determining how far a usable WiFi range is put out by the RE700X, it out-paced my WiFi6 gaming router for range on 5GHz and was almost equal at 2.4GHz – see the image attached to the review. It can be used as a competent access point, which gives out very fast WiFi, but you can have a faster extender, by using one frequency to connect to the router and the other to extend your network (“High Speed Mode”).

Boot-up time is longer than I had expected for the RE700X. From receiving power, to all 4 LEDS being illuminated, my RE605X boots-up in 1 minute 3 seconds. The RE700X takes 2 minutes 8 seconds, so boot-up time is doubled from the previous model. This is relevant to some people, including myself, as I switch on my range extender only when I use it, which is occasionally. It is situated in a brick-built double garage, which is remote from the house, being about 30 feet from the front of my house. The WiFi signal from my house gets into the garage, but is not usable at the opposite end of the double garage leaving a dead-spot — right where my garage doubles as a gym and where I want my phone to get the WiFi. I need the extender to throw the signal across the garage, which both the RE605X and the RE700X do very well, but there is a difference. I currently have 80Mb/sec FTTC service, of which I see 73Mb/sec into the house. The RE605X gives me a perfectly usable 69Mb/sec at the opposite end of the garage and there is a tiny bit of initial variance in that speed as the test progresses. The RE700X provides the full 73Mb/sec, without any discernible variance in speed during the test – this is using a different brand of router (an Asus) — I cannot comment if there is better performance using TP-Link router (there are certainly added features, like One-mesh), as I do not have one to try, however, I cannot imagine how I could possibly improve on the performance of the RE700X, it gives everything my connection has to offer! There is an image of these tests attached to the review.

The extra performance from the RE700X is illustrated on the box, suggesting that 8K smart TVs are catered for, whereas the RE605X box suggests 4K smart TVs are catered for. To be honest, I think this does under-sell the performance of the RE605X. I wanted to see if the additional performance in the RE700X came at an energy cost, so I used my Amazon purchased Besvic power meter to run a couple of basic, not very scientific, tests to get an indication. Both range extenders were set at Maximum WiFi coverage — there are three settings to choose from (Maximum, Intermediate and Minimum — power use without clients attached did not vary if this setting was varied, it only altered WiFi range).

The RE700X draws 4.4 Watts when plugged in without any clients using the WiFi. With a single client conducting a speed test, power use peaked at 6.1 Watts, but watching a HD video on Amazon Prime Video saw power consumption remaining at 4.4 Watts, occasionally peaking for a second or so at 5.1 Watts, then moving down to 4.4 again. This would put annual power costs (at 34p per KWH) in the region of 13 a year if not used or under light use. For heavy constant use from a single client, costs could be as much as 18.10p — but constant speed tests obviously exceed realistic use.

The RE605X draws 2.7 Watts when plugged in without any clients using the WiFi. With a single client conducting a speed test, power use peaked at 4.7 Watts, but watching a HD video on Amazon Prime Video saw power consumption moving equally between 2.7 — 3.0 Watts. This would put annual power costs (at 34p per KWH) from 8.04 a year if not used and under heavy use from a single client as much as 14 — but constant speed tests obviously exceed realistic use.

These tests only give an indication. The idle power consumption would be reasonably accurate and for the most part, would give the approximate price for running the range extender. If power consumption was an issue and you only used the range extender during a certain time of day, there is a power schedule in the firmware, which could be considered as an option. I have my range extender in the loft area of my garage on a switch. I only switch it on when I need that WiFi dead-spot covered, so it uses very little power at all.

The boot-up time for me is relevant, as the RE700X is double that of the RE605X, but it is not a deal breaker, as the gain in performance is significant.

I found the RE700X to be an excellent range extender/access point, but when the price is considered, it is nothing short of outstanding.

I have a single criticism with both extenders, which is that both do not give you the option to change WiFi channel, they take the channel that your router uses. This does put both in “competition” and it would be ideal to set the Router to something like channel 11 and the range extender to channel 6, so that co-existence is improved.

You may hit an issue with the warranty. There is nothing underhand with TP-Link, but I encountered an issue. The box clearly shows it has a 3-year warranty, however, when you register, it is cut down to 2 years. I contacted customer support via chat and explained the issue and to be fair, they were responsive and told me it had a 3-year warranty, but wanted a copy of my registration page and a photo of the box (presumably to see the 3-year warranty sticker on it) — I had already uploaded my Amazon receipt when registering earlier. They escalated the issue and responded by e-mail, amending my registration page with the 3-year warranty. It all took just over 12 hours on a Sunday (the manager they needed to solve this issue immediately was not in that day), so I class that as responsive. Hopefully, this has sorted the issue for everyone else, but I cannot confirm that, so check how many years of the warranty you get.

    Great Extender, Watch the Warranty

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI think this is a pretty good product overall, signal strength isn’t great but that may be the thick walls in my house!

I quite like the features on the app and the fact you can have a list of devices that are on the same network and that you can see what’s connected.

I think the range could be better I’m about 20ft from the route with it and if I move it any further it loses connection straight away, occasionally will go red and will have to reset it to connect it again but not too inconvenient as happens rarely!

I would recommend this if you’re quite close to the router but can’t justify an Ethernet cable or if you just want it to boost connection for wireless devices in adjacent rooms.

Doesn’t seem ideal for long range use at all but again that may be because of the fact I have a concrete wall between me and the router.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI purchased this TP-Link wi-fi extender to improve signal from a Huawei CPE Pro 2 5G wireless router aimed at an outside window (pictured), to an XGIMI Halo projector two rooms away (pictured), as well as other devices remote from the room where the router is situated.

I immediately hit two major snags:
    1. Impossible to update the firmware on the extender, by following the instructions in the manual
    2. The Halo projector would not reliably handshake with the extender, even though other devices could.

Dozens of errors occurred, where the firmware would not update to spec, and the Halo would not handshake with the extender under the current firmware version, and I kept TP-Link and XGIMI informed of my problems from the purchase date in April up to early July 2021.

Meanwhile there was a firmware update released by XGMI for the Halo.

Finally, last week, I got two personal tech support calls in a row direct from TP-Link in China, the first being to talk me through updating the firmware, this time adding the crucial intermediary step of switching off the router first during the update, with the extender connected via Ethernet to a PC. However, after the firmware at last was updated successfully, the device could no longer be configured through the PC.

A few hours later, a second senior technician called me from TP-Link in China and walked me through the re-configuration, using the Tether app on my iPhone, after rebooting the router. Apparently, once a wrong password is entered, everything has to be reset from scratch.

From that point on, the Halo projector connected to the TP-Link extender successfully for the first time, and after experimenting with several different settings, I found the optimal setup on the 2.4GHz band as in the picture from the Halo:
TOP (shown as ‘_EXT’) – Halo is connected to the extender via the 2.4GHz band – 5 bars signal strength (set now as default)
MIDDLE – Halo to the extender signal strength on the 5GHz band – 4 bars
BOTTOM – Halo signal strength directly to the router on the 5GHz band, bypassing the extender – 3 bars

The location of the wifi extender is as pictured in the attached image, roughly halfway between the router and the projector and other devices.

From this, it is obvious that the optimal signal to the Halo projector is coming from the extender using the 2.4GHz setting. In addition to the greatly improved reception on the Halo projector itself, signal received by my Amazon 4K Firestick plugged directly into the Halo’s HDMI port, previously plagued by frequent dropouts, is also now strong and stable, as shown in the image for the Firestick Network Settings. Meanwhile, my iPhone, MacBook Pro get the best reception on the 5GHz setting on the extender, while other devices adjacent to the router (iPad Pro and Windows PC), remain connected direct to the router, since they’re in the same room.

In all, the wifi extender is finally now doing all the things I expected it should do, way back in April when I first took it out of the box and set it up.

I would love to have given this product 5 stars, not only because of the first-rate technical support, but also the eventual high grade performance of the extender itself, however it is also obvious that there needs to be written a comprehensive, step-by-step operation manual, foolproof enough to allow non technically minded people to set up and install the device. Likewise, far more detailed prompting needs to be given for fields, than just “Enter password”, without saying which password is required. I work in IT myself, and problems like this stumped me for months.

A dog to install, but excellent in operation after months of tech suppo

I purchased this product to try to cut down on the amount of wiring for my PC setup in my room as well as have a ridicously strong WiFi reciever. I also have a ps4 and a smart TV so figured this would be a good fit.

The device is fairly large in size and does swamp a wall socket somewhat covering of the plug switches however for a device that covers 14,000 square feet this is to be expected I I guess.

Setting up the wireless signal is generally easy at least for myself you press the wireless wps button on your router and then hold the button on the extender and it does its trick.

I then downloaded the tether app as instructed to register the extender to the router network, so now every time you turn the extender off it picks up the signals again without having to setup connection all over again. The extender uses the same password configured on your main router.

In terms of signal there are 2 settings 2.5 and 5.0 ghz. I am not sure what the purposes are of both but I presume 5.0 is a better frequency, these frequencies appear as separate WiFi signals when searching devices so switching between them is easy. I get a very strong consistent signal on my phone when using the 2.5ghz Signal out in the kitchen extension which is a known wifi dead zone.

It also comes with a push button to turn off the LED lights, so if you want it on during the night and not be disturbed by blue disco lights, then you can do that. The only issue with this is that the LEDs revert to coming back on again when you remove the plug from the wall. It would have been better to have an actual switch especially for a device that is 75 and should have been done better.

There is also an Ethernet port on the extender. Although I have not tried this, I would imagine that this is a handy feature especially given its strong WiFi signal, but hey I am not an expert 🙂

Overall the LED the receiver does provide a strong signal across the house and physically is easy to setup, using the tether app is a little bit fiddly, but the instructions are provided so shouldn’t be a problem

A recommended buy if you want to have an over the top string WiFi signal across your house.

Otherwise if it is for small areas I would reccomend far cheaper options.

Golden Review Award: 41 From Our UsersVery impressed with this TP-Link 650. Having searched many online reviews for suitable extenders, this one came out the best for my needs. I use Apple iOS devices, iPad, iPhone X and MacBook Pro.

Yes, it is an expensive investment but the price I paid on Amazon was much cheaper than other suppliers. It’s also saved me a fortune in the long haul as I had two separate routers to service my WiFi needs. Now with the TP-Link 650, I only need one main router. That’s quite an annual saving of at least 180 on an additional router!
Please be advised, as another Amazon reviewer has pointed out, their is not much point investing in this 650 model if you don’t have a dual router that has 2.4ghz and 5ghz choice. Single routers should opt for a cheaper TP-Link extender or alternative.

My router is a dual band Huawei B525 positioned in the lounge. Perfect fast connection in most rooms but starts dropping out and occasionally loses connection at furthest point. Hence I needed a second router meaning another monthly or annual contract with my network provider. With regards to the router, I also have an internal Ariel fitted which improved speed rapidly. I carried out several speed tests, with and without internal Ariel and router is greatly improved with internal Ariel. Best positioned near a window. Make sure to alter your Huawei router settings on the portal website to change Ariel option.

But the TP-Link 650 resolved this problem. Once set up, I now have perfect connections throughout every room. No drop outs or disconnections. This will serve up to 4 devices at one time through the 650. (Adding to my router which serve up 64 devices direct). For example, I tested watching a HD movie through 650 whilst listening to my HomePod on a separate connection through router. Perfect.

I could have saved myself a lot of time, effort and frustration if I set up the 650 using the tethering app through iPad or iPhone. The supplied instructions guide you though starting set up by web, manually or tethering. It may work differently for you whichever way you try to set up. But most reviews, as I would agree, opt for setting up through the tethering app on your phone or pad. The app, easily downloaded by scanning the Q-link or direct link for IOS or Android. Once downloaded, set up is a breeze following the step by step instructions. Create an account with the tethering app, so you can easily manage the 650 and be kept updated on latest software updates.

Once your set up and want to connect the 650 extended WiFi connection, don’t get confused as I did, as to which WiFi signal to log into. My Huawei router has dual bands for 2.4ghz and 5ghz. The signal connections you should be looking for on the WiFi list, are the same as your original name but have EXT on the end. These are the WiFi connections through the 650. Unless you change the names.

My 650 couldn’t pick up the 5ghz band, as the further away it is situated from the router, the 650 will choose the 2.4ghz band. That is not a problem as the signal is 100% connection and no buffering or drop outs. I don’t see the point in positioning the 650 too close to the router as you want to have WiFi access throughout the home, the 650 should be best placed mid way. I still get 5ghz on my router direct regardless of wether I’m using the 650 in other rooms or not.

    In short

    1. The TP-Link 650 is an excellent well built extended router, but best if you have a dual band router for 2.4ghz and 5ghz
    2. Set up through tethering app works best, faster set up (for me anyway)
    3. The tethering app allows you to manage your devices and 650. Timer to turn off/on the led lights on the 650. Handy for night times.
    4. Saves you money in long run by not having to sign up with network provider on extra routers
    5. Three year warranty!
    6. Highly recommended in many reviews both on Amazon and other sites
