I got the Tapo P100 Alexa smart plug thinking I’d be living in a sci-fi movie, barking commands at Alexa like a tech genius. The reality? Well, it’s been a bit of a journey. First off, I love that it doesn’t need a hub because, let’s be honest, I barely know what a hub is, and the fewer mystery gadgets around, the better. Alexa listens, though like a teenager, she does it on her own terms. I told her to turn off the lamp, and instead, my toaster stopped working. Why? No clue, but it was hilarious.

The Tapo app lets me turn things on and off while I’m away from home, which is perfect for randomly turning on the living room lights while I’m at work just to freak out the cat. I also set the plug to turn off my coffee machine in the morning, which sounds genius, except for the time I was still pouring my first cup when everything suddenly shut down like the Matrix collapsed.

Now, the downside: there’s no energy monitoring, so while it can help me turn off a forgotten fan, I still don’t know how much that fan is adding to my electric bill. Setup had its moments too — make sure you’re in the same room as the router! It took me a good 10 minutes of confusion before I realized my phone was connected to my neighbor’s Wi-Fi.

Sharing control with the family is fun, but do so wisely. I gave my spouse access, and suddenly my lamp was blinking in Morse code at 3 a.m. when I was trying to sleep. Revenge? Probably.

All in all, it’s a great little gadget. Just be sure your router, your phone, and maybe a few prayers are nearby during setup. Would I recommend it? Yes. Would I trust it with my coffee machine again? Jury’s still out on that one.

Purchased these plugs. Had purchased some different ones which did not set up right. These were simple to set up and were done within 15 mins. They connect well with Alexa and were easy to set up. Was a 4 pack as well which was value for money. Would highly recommend them.

Since buying my first Kasa smart plug in 2011 from Macro in Ipswich, I have been a huge fan of these hubless (they use your native wifi lan connections) plugs.

This latest version is much smaller, and while not Kasa app compliant, the Tapo app allows me to control all my older Kasa devices.

The small size makes these great for tight spaces and have swapped out the old Kasa plugs for these in our Christmas outdoor light controller. The scheduler means they then come on automatically, bringing feastive cheer during the darker December months without spending a fortune on electricity.

For switching everything off in my house as we go to bed, but lighting the way safely up the stairs, groups of switches and lights can be operated in “scenes”. Bliss.

These particularly switches were really easy to programme into our home.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI love these units. So easy to set up with the Tapo app and at 7.50 each if you buy the four pack, they are very good value for money. I particularly like the Tapo app facility of a holiday setting, which switches on and off randomly.

Golden Review Award: 12 From Our UsersHaving purchased Tekkin plugs as they were recommended by Amazon a couple of years ago and found them to be utter rubbish I was very despondent. I was advised to give Tapo a go. I already had one Tapo bulb I had bought a few years ago on a Black Friday whim. These plugs are on a totally different level to Tekkin. Simple set up, couldn’t have been easier or quicker and it was done in 5 mins my device was attached and working a dream. Auto connection to Amazon I didn’t have to do that myself as with the Tekkin plugs. Everything was just quality. Highly recommend to everybody.

If you follow the minimal instructions to the letter then you’ll have a fantastic smart plug that’s works amazing with Google. I’ve read reviews that Tapo’s T&Cs basically allows Tapo to gain data from you. Whether that’s true I don’t know but if it is I’ve had no excessive adverts or anything. All in all it’s a great plug and works amazingly.

I used these to replace quite a few British General I had as they failed to connect to my new hub and I also had problems with them failing to connect on occasions.

The Taco Smart Plugs were very easy to set up and seems to be working great and so far with no failures.

For 2 years I had to shimmy under my large bespoke sofa in my summerhouse to turn the outside lights on and off, what a light bulb moment when I stumbled across these plugs! The app is easy to use and easy to set up, very happy.

The product was easy to set up by plugging the plug into the socket and then plugging my lamp into the front.

Using my Alexa app I managed to easily pair the device by naming the device Alexa then picks this information up through a bluetooth signal.

I named the device ‘light’ therefore when Alexa is on I can ask Alexa to turn light on or off.

This saved me the hassle of having to bend down and switch the switch on/off myself.

The slim like design makes it easier to be able to still use the other socket.

The only downfall for me would be wanting to have everything on this system!

    Highly recommend

Golden Review Award: 10 From Our UsersHad a couple of smart plugs about 5 years ago and was really put off the whole idea by them. The app was slow and they routinely disconnected or just failed to work. So chucked them for cheap plastic timers.

Anyway several of the timers are now broken and I needed replacements for security lights etc. Decided to take the plunge again and get a set of 8 sockets, as they were on offer and had good reviews. Anyway I can confirm the other reviewers, these do work perfectly. Detected my wi-fi no problem and setting up with the app is a breeze, so far no problems at all. I have them controlling several lights, heaters for my tortoises and the lights on a fish tank.

The best part is that you can set the sockets to switch at dusk/dawn or any number or minutes before or after. So no need to adjust timers for summer/winter, just let the sockets switch on the lights when it gets dark and switch off after a set time or any time you decide. You can over ride the sockets with the app or by pressing the button on the side of the socket, couldn’t be any easier.

Bought the pack of 4 tapo smart plugs and there brilliant!! Wanted something that I could control my outdoor holiday light displays so the lights would all come on at the same time. Was originally using manual timers and they were really difficult to set the all to come on at the exact same time. But not with the tapo it’s made simple, plug and play! Just plug them in and connect the app and that’s it. The app was really simple to use. I could allow me to manually turn them on or I could set a timer so the go on and off without me doing anything which is very convenient. Would highly recommend them. No more struggling with traditional timers.

Good wifi sockets, simple to set up using the free app. Was a little surprised they didn’t work with my existing app (I now have two, one for newer sockets and one for the older models) but not the end of the world. Good range – work a decent distance away from the router and don’t seem to drop out at all. Overall, very good.

These products are easy to install and work well. I had no problem integrating with my wifi and Alexa chirped up to say she had found the devices without prompting. It is easy to set up schedule on/off for these devices and this can be overridden or amended easily.
I now have 6 of these devices around home mainly turning lights on and off. There are only two slight criticisms I have with the app. First, you can set up devices in specific rooms but the rooms are listed along the top of the app screen. It would be useful to have icons for specific rooms instead. Second, I haven’t found a way to turn on/off all devices in the same room at one go using Alexa. I would like to say “Turn off all the lights in the living room” but only get the first one responding

    Great for making appliances smart.
E.g. to add timer function to dumb heaters or switch standard lamp on “20 min after sunset” which adjusts for your location. Interacts well with other smart routines like Samsung Smarthings.

These are such a breeze to install and get working. Connect all my lamps etc with these via the app and I turn my lamps off/on throughout the house. Fantastic if not at home, or away on holiday! Keeps people thinking there’s someone home. Better than a standard timer which will turn off/on at exactly the same time daily.
Super little app downloaded to your phone, easy to use and brilliant price

I have about 3 or 4 smart plugs before getting these and I love them. Have them connected to most lamps around the house but needed a few more to get all the lights connected. Just by chance I went onto amazon when it was prime day and picked them up for half the normal price so choose you time to buy them and you can pick up a deal.
About the plugs them self you need to download the tapo app and pair it. It takes about 2 minutes to set up. Works well with alexa. Never had a problem with any of the plugs and I’ve had some for about 3 years now.

They are easy to connect to the WiFi and, using either the Tapo app or Alexa, make control of plug in appliances, such as lights, very easy. I understand that using the app they can also be switched on from elsewhere so possibly a useful security device too.

These very quickly became one of the most important parts of my smart home setup! I have an abundance of these pointed around our home, they’re all set up on automations, timers, routines and we monitor the energy from everything as our house isn’t eligible for smart meter so this is the only way we can really see which rooms and devices are using the most electricity

So far had 8 of them – 4 from last generation and 4 the latest one. They are very easy to work with as they will not require you to limit your wifi to only 2.4GHz because some others will require you to do that when first time setting it up.
And they are very easy be recognized by Amazon Alexa.
Very handy when you have multiple Christmas lights need switching on / off during the festive season.

Simple and uncomplicated to set up and use, and can be linked to Alexa with little trouble. If you have a basic level of technological know-how or can follow instructions, you’ll have no trouble.

The only issue I really have is with the size. They’re not huge, but are just a little too chunky to fit side-by-side on my 2×3 extension. Maybe there’s something internal that requires this shape but to me it feels like a minor design oversight.

Easy simple to set up using the tapo app. The hardest part is comming up with simple memeral unique names to use on Alexa. (lamp 1, Lamp 2, TV 1, TV 2 ) does not quite cut it. What helps is that you can assign areas, Living room, Bed room, with an alexa in each of those rooms you only need to say light on in that room and that rooms light comes on. but I do have to distinguish between Bed TV and Main TV.

We have loads of Tapo & Kasa smart switches & bulbs around the house, we tried others (belkin etc) and they don’t compare.

The Tapo app is very good and now brings across any existing Kasa devices if you have them, Alexa works well too.

I like these in particular as they have energy monitors & 4 switches for 25 is good value.

TPLink has become the product to go to in our house for these sort of items or even switches/routers too. They work with no fuss.

I had to replace all my smart plugs with these as all my previous ones worked with the E Family Cloud skill which has been discontinued. I know there is another skill work around now but how long will that last? So I went with a more established company and bought these as I already have their cameras and am impressed.
These have been the easiest and quickest wifi smart things I have ever set up. They also updated firmware very quickly. I can use the same Tapo app that I use for my cameras for them so less messing about and there are lots of setting options.
All I can say is, they just work and I have more confidence the company will be around a while to keep them working longer than my last ones.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersI’ve bought 8 of these plugs for various devices about the house. Fish tank lights, sub woofer, dehumidifier etc. and the setup is quick and easy. Once you setup your first device, the rest are really quick to get up and running.

The initial setup of your first device is only slowed by the input of Wi-Fi details and password. This isn’t a negative though as any device you buy will require this process. Once you have done your first device, any following devices can just use the Wi-Fi details you used the first time.

Setup is literally, plug in the plug, add device from a list on app, wait 2 seconds for app to find device, accept link, wait for Wi-Fi setup ~5 seconds (~1 minute first setup) and bingo, done. The setup will then ask to check for firmware updates. The plugs can be set to auto-update at specific times, e.g. middle of the night or have it disabled for manual updating. You then give it a name and location.

Once added to the app, you can access the device and setup a schedule or timer, manually turn the plug off/on, see its current and past energy usage, setup power protection (turn off if above certain power level), group with other devices and setup for sharing with another person so both can control the plug. You can also add a off/on widget to your phone/tablet home screen for the device for quick access, so no need to open the app first.

The app allows for devices to be accessed outside the local Wi-Fi network, as long as the Wi-Fi they are connected to has internet access. So I can access these plugs when out and about miles away and see their details and change anything I want.

So far, I’ve had no issues with any of the plugs dotted around the home.

  34. Anonymous says:

Golden Review Award: 24 From Our UsersI didn’t realise this was associated with TP-Link, which is a reputable brand. The App is linked to them some how and I simply love the app. It was very easy to use – they do have a lot of products though but it was easy enough to find the model of this plug. Simply be near your socket for the setup and conveniently label and icon your devices so you can recognise them faster.

The only downside is that they all had firmware updates, I’m not sure how common it is but I’ve disabled Auto-Update in the middle of the night.

    Inspection:
These plugs feel sturdy which is what you want in something that’s connected to the mains. There’s switches to the side and a not too bright LED to indicate whether it’s searching for a Network or Ready to go. Weight-wise, it’s a good weight, not like a small shaver adapter, maybe 2 or 3 times the weight of that.

    Function:
I had no issues with them, they’re work exactly as you’d expect. No signal drop outs no nothing!

There is something that is unclear though during when setting the timer function and it seems like a few people have asked this before. But there’s an “Away mode” which turns a device on and off to immitate someone being in. But although there’s a time-range you can set on it, there’s no frequency or how long a device should be on for, or anything specific. For example if this was connected to a lightbulb, it’d be pretty weird for it to be turned on and off frequently… The UI isn’t particularly great for setting up manual timers too, they’re not ordered in date form or “last created”, and you have to manually input each Turn On/Off time so you end up making 14 entries if you were planning to turn something on once a day. It gets a bit confusing once it’s past 12am too, so you have to remember to choose Tuesday 00:30am if you wanted something turn off Monday “Night”. That’s the main reason for 4 stars for the Timer Function.

If it had more options like, “Turn on for how long?” that would be more user friendly.

Overall good set of plugs, I’m very happy so far.

I bought these to control the timings on my outdoor security lights. Previously I’d been using a programmable timer plug, but as the nights get darker it will need the timings adjusted weekly. Tapo products have the option of things coming on at sunset and switching off at sunrise, all adjusted automatically. You can of course set your own schedule easily enough, but the automatic setting suits me best. I’ll use one of the others to control Xmas lights when December gets here.

We wanted the ability to ask Alexa to turn on lights both upstairs and downstairs (a good burglar deterrent). With these you can ask for plugs to be switched on and also use the Tapo app to turn on lights on and off using the ‘away’ mode. Highly recommend these to anyone. In fact I am thinking of buying a second set for more plug controls!!

Set up was really easy, and I have used them while away as a security measure, as long as I have a WiFi signal.
I don’t have Alexa, and only use the on/off function, but I know that it works from 2 phones as was using both new and old phones interchageably during a recent transfer. There is a slight delay (a second or two) while current cofiguration is updated, which is a very acceptable, as continuous updating would be a irritating battery drai

I love the energy monitoring feature. It has daily usage stats and can show how much energy you’ve used along with the price. You can set timers and routines via the app, which was easily set up on my Android, and the plug is pretty fast to respond using Alexa. It’s pretty compact when a standard plug is connected to it, it sticks out around 6/7cm.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersReviewing Tapo Smart Plug with Energy Monitoring

I’ve been using these in various places in the house and garage for close to a year now and found them very useful indeed. I did start off by using the energy monitoring to determine exactly how much electricity some items used but once that was established it seems unnecessary. As there’s very little price difference though, you might as well have it as not.
I use them through the Tapo app on an Android phone although they are integrated with Google Home and work well there too. The app is good though so I see no great need to use anything else, the phone being close to hand and just as easy as speaking to it.
You get the ability to turn each circuit on/off, set a schedule on each individually too which is useful some things that do need to go on/off at set times. I use this for a water feature in the garden for instance. There is also an away from home mode which turns whatever is attached, a light presumbaly, on and off at random intervals between the times that you set. This makes it seem as if someone is at home to anyone looking from outside.
Getting them set up can be a bit tricky with the pairing process, but a full reset on them and starting the procedure again has always cleared it when I initially had problems.
They’ve worked perfectly for all this time and I have no hesitation in recommending them.

I have loads of smart devices at home, adding this socket to your home is very big upgrade. It’s not only extremely convenient to be able turn on lamps or irons but it saves money too.

For starters, the app works extremely easy, download the app, plug the socket and click scan. App will add your socket automatically and ask you to name it. From there you can chose which room it is, what time to turn on or off.
Alexa works extremely well. I have floor lamps with normal light bulbs in. I plugged to Tapo smart plug and now I can tun on light on and off via app, via Alexa or set to go on and off at certain times. I have ring alarm so I set a routine on my Alexa, when per sensor detect movement in my living room where lamp is, between 7pm and 9am it will automatically turn lamp on. It will automatically turn lamp off when it does not detects movement for 15min too. There is so many items you can plug and save money on electricity as well have safer home by turning lights or so plugged to this smart plug for you while you away,

The plug is very small and never has problem with connections. I have several of them as well as many tapo light bulbs. The future is now.

I bought this product to make my home smarter and more convenient. I was impressed by how easy it was to set up and use. I just plugged the smart plugs into my existing outlets, downloaded the Tapo app, and connected them to my Wi-Fi network. Then I was able to control them with my voice using Alexa or Google Home, or with my phone from anywhere. I can also schedule them to turn on or off at specific times, or create scenes to activate multiple devices with one command. I love that I can share the control with my family members or guests, so they can also enjoy the benefits of smart home. The smart plugs are small and sleek, and they do not block the other sockets. They work flawlessly and reliably, and they do not require any hub or additional device. I think this product is a great value for money and a must-have for anyone who wants to upgrade their home with smart technology.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI purchased a 4 pack of Tapo smart plugs to use with Home Assistant as they were the lowest cost option from a known brand (25 at time of writing so only 6.25 per plug).

The TP Link Tapo app is perfectly serviceable and easily got the devices connected to my wifi network, but for Home Assistant users there is a community made Tapo integration for Home Assistant available through the HACS service so the devices can work fully offline and be used with automations within HA easily, providing much more power than the Tapo app on its own.

I bought these smart plugs to easily control lamps in my living room. I had been using manual timers but was becoming increasingly frustrated at having to frequently amend the “on” time with the Autumn nights closing in. It was also not practical to access the sockets to override the timer on dull evenings or to stop the lamps going off when remaining after scheduled lights out.

I already have Tapo/TP-link products so had the Tapo app and found it very straightforward to link the plugs by Bluetooth. They added automatically as Alexa skills giving me the option to define schedules in either app.

I can now instantly turn lamps on and off with a simple Alexa command or via a virtual lightswitch in the app.

The app is compatible with shortcut options on apple devices which was really handy as I can ask Siri to switch on individual lamps without having to touch my phone. Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI bought these to replace some older smart plugs which no longer worked well with my wireless router.
I have a BT Smarthub 2 which is dual band wifi but you cannot separate the channels, so I had to have a separate wireless hub to run the old 2.4ghz plugs.
The new TP-Link Tapo smart plugs, although also 2.4ghz, integrate easily with the BT Smarthub 2, so I no longer need the separate wifi hub.
The old plugs were Teckin brand and worked perfectly with 2.4ghz, but I couldn’t get them to work with the BT hub. The new Tapo plugs had no problem with the BT hub and connected easily using the Tapo app, which is excellent.
It is easy to add the Tapo skill to Alexa and they work perfectly with Alexa.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersThese P110 plugs are great. You can turn them on-and-off with the Tapo app or you can do it with Alexa, which will autodiscover them. Setup is a breeze with the Tapo app and you can also see the energy consumption of connected devices through it. If you know your provider’s rate per kW/h you can tell the app that so it will show you energy consumption with the associated cost. There is also an integration for Homebridge if you are a tinkerer! Now the issues – due to the size of the plugs, if you have an outlet with USB ports they will be inaccessible (see photo). The plug also blocks the socket switch although this is less of an issues as you normally leave the Tapo plug powered on and switch it from the app. So overall great but be aware you may need to consider where you put them.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great with some issues

Golden Review Award: 34 From Our UsersIf you are looking for a simple and affordable way to make your home smarter, the TP-Link Smart Plug might be a good option for you. This plug allows you to control your devices from anywhere using the Tapo app or your voice with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. You can also set schedules, timers, and countdowns to automate your appliances and save energy.

The plug is easy to set up and use. You just need to plug it into a wall socket, download the Tapo app, and follow the instructions to connect it to your Wi-Fi network. You can then name your plug and assign it to a room or a group. You can also create scenes to control multiple devices with one tap or voice command.

The plug works well with most devices, such as lamps, fans, heaters, coffee makers, and more. However, it is not compatible with some high-power appliances, such as air conditioners, microwaves, or hair dryers. The plug also does not support 5 GHz Wi-Fi networks, so you need to have a 2.4 GHz network available.

The plug is small and compact, so it does not block the adjacent sockets. It also has a button on the side that allows you to manually turn it on or off. The plug has a LED indicator that shows its status, but it can be turned off in the app if you find it too bright at night.

The Tapo app is user-friendly and intuitive. It allows you to monitor the power consumption of your devices, set up smart actions based on conditions, and share the control with other family members or guests. The app also supports firmware updates to keep your plug secure and up-to-date.

The plug is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, so you can use your voice to control your devices. You just need to enable the Tapo skill or service in the Alexa or Google Home app and link your account. You can then use commands like “Alexa, turn on the lamp” or “Hey Google, turn off the fan”.

    Pros:

1- Easy to set up and use
    2- Affordable and reliable
3- Supports remote control, scheduling, timers, and countdowns
4- Works with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant
5- Has a power monitoring feature
6- Has a manual switch and a LED indicator

    Cons:

1- Not compatible with high-power appliances
2- Does not support 5 GHz Wi-Fi networks
3- LED indicator might be too bright for some users

    Reasons to buy:

If you want to make your home smarter without spending too much money
If you want to control your devices from anywhere using your phone or your voice
If you want to save energy and automate your appliances

    Reasons to avoid:

If you have high-power appliances that need more than 10 A of current
If you only have a 5 GHz Wi-Fi network at home
If you prefer a plug that does not have a LED indicator
    Conclusion:

The TP-Link Tapo Smart Plug is a smart and easy way to control your devices remotely. It offers many features and functions that make your life more convenient and comfortable. It is also compatible with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, so you can use your voice to manage your devices. However, it is not suitable for high-power appliances or 5 GHz Wi-Fi networks, so you need to check the compatibility before buying. Overall, it is a great product for its price and performance.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI quite like the tapo range of smart home products, and am a fan of this plug once set up, however I do have one small gripe.

As with all other tapo products we own, this plug would not connect with the wifi network coming directly from our router. I could get to the point in the set up of inputting the wifi password but then it then went to connect to it, it would inevitably fail to do so and put itself back into setup mode, with the app just freezing.

The only wifi network I could get these to initially connect to was that coming from any powerline wifi extender. I have no idea at all why this happens as the wifi coming from an extender is the same standard that comes from the router @ 2.4ghz. I’m not an IT professional but consider myself to be fairly proficient with computing / home networking and could not get any tapo item to connect to the router’s wifi signal.

Not the end of the world, and wouldn’t stop me buying more tapo products, but lead to a significant amount of frustration when I first set up some TP-link smart home items.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersI have now purchased a number or TP-Link Tapo Smart Products including a number of these plugs. I started with one because I had a plug socket behind a cabinet that was a bit of a pain to get to every time I wanted to switch the plug on, this seemed to be a solution to that issue. It worked very well with Alexa and I could see the benefits of having a numbers of these plugs, lights etc., as it becomes possible to switch on your plugs, etc., literally without lifting a finger.

Its possible to use them as plug with devices and switch those devices on and off using these plugs. If you have devices that you need to switch on and off at certain times, it is also possible to set timers to turn the plug on and off. I have some set to go off at a certain time daily in case I fall asleep leaving some things on, so they will not be on all night or wake you because they are still on. On the occasions I have done this the timer work well.

It is also possible to buy them with Monitoring to view your electricity usage, which these do not have. The Tapo smart light bulbs do, if you plan to use the smart plugs together with the Smart Bulbs. I was also a little surprised that they do not have surge protection, which is probably worth mentioning although its possible to fix this in other ways.

I got these plugs for when I am away from home for the away feature. They are set up to come on randomly on various lights to keep people guessing when not at home. Also added benefit I can turn upstairs lamps on by phone before I go up and scramble around the room in the dark. Very happy with purchase

This is an exceptional smartplug. It accepts all intergrations, it works well at range and accepts all internet bands. I have bought many and will probably buy many more. The only downside I have found with these is that their app doesn’t support grouping devices, however if you use other software to manage them then that shouldn’t be an issue.
    Overall, strongly recommended

After buying the tapo camera I bought the 4 pack of these. Love them. Easy to set up, easy to group and makes life so simple. Yes it’s lazy but it now feels like something I watched on Tomorrow’s World as a kid. “Alexa, lounge on” and hey presto all my lamps come on. No bending to press switches etc. Wish I’d had these during cold spell so could use to put my leccy blanket on prior to going to bed

I’ve a bunch of Meross smart plugs that work well. However they do not work when offline. I needed a smart plug that I could schedule to turn off the router for a couple of minutes every night. This Tapo smart plug works perfectly for that use case. In addition, the app to set it up is simple to use and polished. The plug itself is tiny and doesn’t block neighbouring sockets (unlikely the relatively wide Meross plugs). Will definitely be buying these going forward.

    Brilliant little smart plug

I use this to control an electric blanket. It so much less hassle than going up and down flights of stairs at the end of the day. I really recommend this product highly. Its easy to set up and works perfectly. It is very reasonably priced. I intent to get more to control heaters and lamps.

Its compatibility with my Amazon Alexa Show works well for hands-free operation. Set-up process is fairly simple and straightforward through the dedicated Tapo app. It takes a little bit of navigating to find this out in the Alexa app for integration, but now I’m happy with the additional control options and scheduling features, allowing me to automate the house.
It’ll be really handy when I’m out of the house leaving it unattended for a few days, being able to adjust the lighting etc.

This combination of smart hub and light switch is one of the best pieces of kit I have purchased in a long time. It is smart and was easy to install. Because of the strength of my Wi-fi there are many switches that just won’t work with my network but this is so easy to integrate. Once the hub and switch is set up Alexa has found it all. What a fabulous purchase I am so pleased!

This WIFI plug works very well. On/Off command is instant with no lag. Also works “remotely” as I don’t have to be connected to the same WIFI network as the plug to operate it. It works through 4G, which is useful for boiling the kettle 10mins from home 😉

The TP-Link Tapo Smart Plug wifi outlet is a great device that makes it easy to control your home appliances remotely from your smartphone. It’s incredibly easy to set up and use, with a user-friendly app that allows you to turn on and off your appliances with just a few taps on your phone.

The design is sleek and compact, so it doesn’t take up much space, and it’s compatible with a wide range of home appliances. You can also set schedules and timers for your appliances, which is great for saving energy and automating your daily routines.

I particularly love the voice control feature, which allows me to control my appliances hands-free using Alexa or Google Assistant. It’s a great convenience that saves me time and effort, and adds a touch of modern technology to my home.

Overall, I highly recommend the TP-Link Tapo Smart Plug wifi outlet to anyone who wants to upgrade their home appliances with smart technology. It’s reliable, easy to use, and makes life more convenient and efficient.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI’d been putting off buying these for a while because I read so much about my Sky router being 5ghx/2.4ghz and wasn’t looking forward to having to split the network into 2. When the plugs arrived I installed them one at a time, added them to the Tapo app and they all worked fine. I decided to see what would happen if I added them to Google Home app. Result was everything worked fine, now I control them with Google. It took about 20 mins from start to finish. Well pleased.

I was very worried about ordering one of these as I thought it’d be complicated to setup and I’m not very up-to-date on technology, but it was surprisingly simple. The app tells you detailed and easy to follow instructions to setup. I initially got an error trying to connect to my WiFi on the first try but thankfully when pressing to try again it worked. I will buy more now I know it’s not complex

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI’ve been using Tapo Smart Plugs for a while now, and I have to say that overall, they’re amazing. I have about 10 of these plugs scattered throughout my home and they’ve been incredibly useful for automating my devices. However, I did experience an issue with one of the plugs that kept turning on on its own, which was quite frustrating. Unfortunately, when I tried to contact customer service to resolve the issue, I found that their support was non-existent. Despite this one hiccup, I still find the Tapo Smart Plugs to be a great addition to my smart home setup and would recommend them to others.

As my house wiring doesn’t have a neutral at the light switches, and I didn’t want to mess around wiring in a capacitor, I opted for one of these switches (and I plan to buy more).

The disadvantages are that it requires a hub and 2 x AA batteries. But the hub is not expensive and everything installs via the Tapo app without issue. Physical installation is a straight replacement of the existing switch.

Recognised by Alexa straight away and integrated into my existing rooms and routines there.

Too early to say what battery life is like, but hopefully it will be good.

One tip: To install the switch, you first click a slider on the bottom to “open”. The front panel then lifts off to show the screw holes, battery compartment, etc. It’s the WHOLE panel that lifts off, including the frame. Don’t try (as I did initially) to pull off just the spring-loaded rocker panel. This will make sense when you have the switch in your hand.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI have purchased these items and always been happy with the product. However recently one of the Smart Plugs stopped switching off (eg always on if power socket was on) with the recommended app or Alexa. I reported this as still under warranty but was forced to return the faulty item in order to ship a replacement.

I had to pay postage (small amount but ~50% of the cost of the faulty unit) TP-Link tell me

“Please kindly advised that we as the manufacturer do not reimburse postage for faulty items being returned for replacement because we don’t sell our product to the end user directly”

Fortunately Amazon refunded the return postage cost … so back to being a happy customer :).

With two sets of double sockets behind my desk, purchased these and plugged in my 6 plug extension into it, initially they worked without any issues using the TP app on my ipad, lately the app fails to load on occasions even though it’s had numerous updates. Quite a few time it shows the plugs as offline which is frustrating. After relaunching the app several times they wake up

Really hand if you have plugs out of the way but can be frustrating at times

They were really easy to set up and did buy two bulbs to go with i

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI ordered two of these from Amazon shortly before Christmas so I would not have to go outside each night to turn out the Christmas lights. I was so impressed I ordered another 4.

The Tapo smart plugs are really easy to use, they feel high quality and work as expected.

Out of the box you simply plug in and download the Tapo app. Set up is very simple and quick. You can select within the app which room the plug is located and give it a name. The app seamlessly links with Alexa and Google Home allowing you to voice control the sockets.

I have these now controlling lamps, heaters, tv’s and other devices.

The app includes a great timer function so the devices will switch on and off as desired.

I have not had any problems with any of the 6 plugs I have purchased and am now looking at light switches for some rooms in the house from the same manufacturer.

    Definitely worth the money.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersWe chose this because we already have a Tapo webcam (which is also amazing) and thought it would be better not to have to have yet another app for the mains adapter.
Well, that proved to be a sound decision but only the start!
The little device installed easily and has fantastic settings options.
We wanted it to replace an old digital timer that was turning on a lamp in the lounge. The old timer needed you to change the time when the clocks change, twice a year AND periodically to follow the setting sun, i.e. to come on as it starts getting dark
This adapter can be set to come on at dusk or dusk + or – a number of minutes and this means it always follows the setting sun and never needs touching.
Also… It is so easy to manually turn the lamp on or off from the app when needed!
Maybe not earth shattering, but we think it is wonderful and a great price too

Golden Review Award: 14 From Our UsersThese little godsends are amazing. I have 2 kids who have a number of items all plugged in at the same time. Chargers, computers, TVs, game consoles etc and they never switch them off at the wall when not in use, despite asking them until I’m blue in the face. With the current electricity prices and the fact leaving things plugged in and on at the wall costs money, even when you’re not using them or charging your phone etc, I know these plugs will save me money on a daily basis.

These plugs are a game changer and have solved that issue with a simple click. I go on the app and turn them off and it couldn’t be easier.

The App is very straightforward and the actual set up is easy to follow.

One thing I found, is you have to set up and connect one plug at a time. It can’t be done if you plug them all in and try to set them up. This is because you have to name each plug to where it’ll be located e.g. Bedroom, Kitchen, Livingroom etc

What I also like about these plugs is you can turn them on and off by pressing the button on the side of the plug, so if I turn them off and the kids can’t get hold of me to turn them on, they can turn them on themselves.

These plugs are a very good investment and I intend on buying more when our extension is done. I’ll be using them for my washing machine, dishwasher and any other appliance where the plug is behind the appliance, where I am unable to reach to switch the plug off when not in use.

Highly recommended and I wouldn’t be without them
