I pick this over the Benq HT3550 for several reason
1. I couldn’t find a lot of complaints or issues about it, Or many reviews. No news is good news
2. The other model that I have, I have not had any issue with it. No rainbow, dead pixel, overheating, great picture.
3. My setup is in a light control environment, from 6 flood lights, to hit your toe against the table kind of dark. so, I can turn on some lights and do other things while watching if needed, Like I little gaming, Total darkness not necessary for it. And still have a great picture.
4. The reliability I had with the other model.
So, I upload a little clip of it in action. You understand it’s not like seeing it firsthand, but take a look. Tell me what you think… 120in screen 12ft -13ft to projector also used youtube videos to set colors not much adjusting needed. I think this set on normal mode. with some setting turn down some. eyeballed it.
The projector is fine. Does what it should. Installation seemed easy; I had someone else do it. The projector is really small compared to my old one. The picture is way better.
I really liked using this projector. It was my first ever and having 4K @ 60Hz was awesome. I played mostly games on it but did watch a few Netflix shows on it. I do wish it had 120Hz but I know that would bump up the price of this laser projector. Returned it because I currently no longer needed it. Still recommend it though.
Colors are great and the brightness is strong enough for me to watch during the day in a room with 2 windows. I can’t believe how quality this thing feels for less than a grand! Pleasantly surprised.
So I purchased the ViewSonic px 701 4k projector and I was blown away how small the unit was. So I plugged in my Xbox series X to play some games and I noticed right away how stunning the image is!
Then this happens … I’ll play a game then exit the game then I’ll press the Xbox home button on the controller and then the whole wall would turn green then it’ll go back to ViewSonic splash logo screen while it’ll search for a signal then I see a 4 second visual glitch and it’ll return to Xbox home screen? I may have a defective unit. Therefore I called ViewSonic and they mentioned the projector may have a color wheel problem and it’s not supposed to do that. So now Im disappointed I have to return it for a refund and possibly have to purchase another unit….. What a shame as much I really like it then this happens to me!
seule bog le vissage pour fixation sont en dessous du projecteur au lieu d etre sur le dessus
As far as the 4K goes, it is beautiful! It is the pixel-shifting process, but it is still a huge improvement on 1080p. AND I projected it on a 250″ screen and it looks glorious! This projector is totally worth the price.
Projector stopped working after a year and a half. Contacted Viewsonic and was approved for RMA and was informed that the bulb went bad. It’s a pretty good projector, but the bulb didn’t last 20,000 hours in SuperEco mode as advertised. The bulb warranty is only for 1 year and cost ~$200 if you purchase a bulb through them. I decided to purchase a lamp from a third party and just had them return the projector without a working lamp.
3/7/23
Projector came in, i replaced the lamp and after turning it on I noticed that the image was warped in the middle and had to send it back to them for another RMA.
3/23/23
Projector came back and projected a perfect rectangle image out of the box. However, I noticed that the zoom knob was turned all the way to the left(when facing the projector upright) which projected a smaller image. After testing the zoom setting, I noticed that the device was only able to project a perfect rectangle shaped image when the zoom knob is adjusted to show the smallest image up to right dead in the middle. Shifting the zoom knob beyond the middle showed warping at the top center of projected image. I contacted Customer support to report my findings and was issued a replacement. And it comes with a bulb!
4/7/23
Projector came in and is running great again. Projected image is a perfect rectangle from the lowest to the highest settings using the zoom knob. It did come with a new lamp, hopefully this one lasts 20,000 hrs as advertised.
Overall, it’s a solid projector from a solid company. The projector is bright, has low latency and high fresh rate. Perfect for gaming, watching movies or even using it as a PC monitor. Only downside was the bulb that came with my projector did not last as long as it was advertised. Customer support was great and responded in a timely fashion.
Love the projector used as my living room tv on a 100 inch screen it has great image and shows up well in a sunny room but in the end I sent it back and got an 85 inch 4K tv my living room is a little to bright and I wanted a sharper pic but if your room can be darkened in the day this thing rocks
Got sun glasses? Yer gonna need’em!!
I thought “eh, 4000 lumens, brighter than my old one but who’s gonna care?”
Um, mom will. If your not careful the Viewsonic logo will be etched into the paint. May look like a watermark to some, but mom knows her paint!
Or maybe get a screen.
Are you a gamer? Don’t know why LTT hasn’t reviewed this yet. This projector should be standard equipment for sim racing!! You can turn down the brightness and such. Has a lot of settings to fiddle with. And run directly to the video card and make it your primary monitor. Then you’ll unleash “The (video) BEAST!”
There’s just no comparison in my book. I went from a decent $150 projector to a $1000 one, and a bottle of sunscreen. I’d be careful viewing outdoor scenes with sunshine in them!
Collect those magnifying glasses from them kids too!! They’ll have a heyday!
If ya got the cash DO IT!
I upgraded my projector for this one as I wanted to be able to watch NHL games with more clarity and smoothness for the speed of the game. It will never match the sharpness of a TV but I have to say that I am pleasantly surprised at how good a job it does. I am happily watching NHL games using this new projector.
I currently purchased this projector and an optoma 1080hdrx both were amazing projectors both are solid but this one once I tweaked the colours in settings is far more superior the crisp 4k image and colours I am getting with this are insane when you first buy it it’s set on an ugly picture mode that gives it a yellow tint but once you customize the colours with the software provided it destroys the other projectorsm I compared the image quality side by side with the high end 1080p even the contrast was amazing once tweaked very happy with my purchase it also has auto Keystone which is a bonus thank you viewsonic for making an amazing produc
Overall it’s a good projector, the throw distance was perfect for what I needed.
Projecting onto a 110″ screen from about 10′ away. – Hanging from ceiling.
I’m using this for daily use. Audio for my setup goes to a soundbar from the 3.5mm jack for normal viewing. When I turn on the receiver, it interrupts the audio from the HDMI and the audio only comes from the surround speakers at that point. Works well and sounds great when needed.
Pros:
Excellent throw distance for small rooms. – Very forgiving throw distances. – For my screen size, anywhere from 108″-140″ throw distance will work for 110″ screen.
Plenty bright – However it is not powerful enough to overcome the room lights I have. You still want to use this in a space you have good control over the light.
It’s 4K
It’s 3D – Yes, this works well, but I did find myself inverting the images on a couple movies. – Used DLP Active shutter glasses. – https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08C9SWQKM
It’s small – This is good because I have a low ceiling where this is installed and need people to be able to walk under it.
Cons:
Can’t get this to power up or down with the Xfinity remote (Volume does work after trying a dozen codes). – Still working on a remote config for my system.
No optical out. (Would be nice to have for added connection flexibility.)
When viewing in 3D, it puts the lamp from Eco mode, back to “normal”, and does not put it back when 3D viewing is over. This is the highest brightness setting and uses up lamp hours quicker. – Use one of the Eco modes for longer lamp life.
Adjusting the screen is a little cumbersome, but doable. Focus and zoom are stiff, making it hard to really fine tune it.
Fans can be a bit loud. They are worse when lamp is set to “Normal”.
Overall, not bad.
The price point for being a 4K projector is good. It’s far from perfect, but given the cost and what it can do, I’m happy with it so far.
Menus are very simple and straightforward. One if the nicest features is the info menu which shows what resolution you are receiving (1080 or 4K) and whether or not you are getting HDR or stndard video. The biggest thing to keep in mind is the entire signal path has to support 4k with HDR. If one piece (cable, amp, source) does not support this resolution format you will not get the best picture.
The sample video is a 4k HDR video from YouTube projected on an older 130″ screen that is 10ft wide. Picture quality is crisp and colors re vibrant. No regrets with this purchase. If there is one slight con it would be the fan noise. It is not loud, however is noticeable. Since I use for Monday Night Football and movies, just turn up the volume a bit and it will be drowned out.
Well done Viewsonic!
I was really impressed with the picture quality of this projector once I got it working. Which makes it a worthy replacement of my previous Mitsubishi DLP HD projector.
Unfortunately, it was clear that I received a defective unit !!!!!!!!! This was clear to me within minutes of plugging in a 4K Apple TV unit as the source. I immediately heard a loud grinding sound. stopped everything unplugged everything and restarted… The same grinding started again. It was so loud and actually louder than my coffee beans grinder-No kidding!
I removed the HDMI and connected a brand new 4K Apple TV that I had intended for this projector. It seemed to work fine and allowed me to adjust the image to my taste. A lot of control over color, picture quality. Overall excellent picture quality in 4k bright and detailed.
On the first unit that was defective, there was somewhat a loud flickering sound -similar to an old 16mm projector running a film that was not as loud as the grinding sound I experienced with the first Apple TV I connected. It seemed really strange. When I pause the show, the sound stops, when I resume playing the show, the sound returns. I had to send it back and repurchase it again. I will update this review once I receive the replacement.
Pros:
-Super bright picture – that you can watch even with some daylight or soft dim light in the room.
-High Quality picture
-Beautiful colors
-Smooth gradients and grayscales
-Good on screen menu
-Responsive remote (if you want the backlit version of this remote, it comes only with the PX 748 model)
-Smooth zoom and focus ring for easy adjustment
-Very Sharp picture from corner to corner
-Auto Keystone feature – saves a lot of time and effort.
-3 years warranty.
Cons:
Defective unit – makes ne worry about quality control
***Update 12/15/22
I received my PX-701 4K replacement! Very quiet fan which confirmed that the first one I received was defective! Stunning picture quality on a good quality 100″ screen ! I attached several photos from Apple TV as the source with 100″ electric motorized screen by Elite Screens
I do recommend this projector! It is a bargain for a 4K projector under $1000.
***Update 12/28/2022. I’m truly in love with this projector, specially after testing 5 different projectors from different brands. In that $900 range, I haven’t seen a single 4K capable projector that comes even close to this 3200 lumens brightness and picture quality. I highly recommend it!

After lots of digging, I found it to be comparable with much more expensive 4K units for less. You do need to watch out for placement, as the image can’t zoom or shift much, and put time in to figure out settings, but you will be well rewarded once it’s all in place!

3 months after owning, got a white pixel. It is still under warranty and their response was quick, but the customer is responsible for paying to ship the item back ($30 for me with insurance).
Bought this to create a gaming/ theatre room for my ps5. So far it’s been excellent. It supports full 4k 60fps. W HDR Or 1080p 120 fps. Only gripe i have is that the neon green in case as the FIFA logo is much more yellow. But besides that excellent projector. Especially for the money
EDIT: I have since set up the colour profile perfectly. For people saying its not saving. They should probably use V Color Tuner. you can accurately set up each individual profile and save it. Through the PC
Black levels are not great, especially with default settings. Turning brightness up to 52 helped a lot with being able to see things in the shadows. Turning BrilliantColor down (to ~7 for HDR, ~1 for SDR) helped keep things from looking washed out. The throw distance is long enough that it shouldn’t be in front of you for fully immersive size so I’ll probably need to do a ceiling mount. At 120″ in a dark room at night It seems a bit too bright even on eco mode since the blacks look gray and bright HDR whites can make me squint. A bigger or lower gain screen will probably improve it. I just got a cheap $20 screen from Amazon and I think the gain is around 1.0? It’s close to $500 cheaper then the next cheapest 4k projector, so overall I’m very happy with it. I did have a poor experience with a 3rd party amazon seller sending the wrong item, but when I finally got the right version it’s been great.
This 4K projector, @ ~$900, was a great balance of cost vs functionality. @ 3200 lumens, it’s very decent brightness when the sun goes under, and decent enough in daytime.
I chose not to buy a unit with advanced audio processing since I intended to use the projector with firestick. I also purchased a vizio 5.1 sound bar and use bluetooth to connect to the audio, and it’s been great. The down side of using bluetooth is that you do have to touch the sound bar remote to get it connected. however, saved hundreds of $$ w/o the advanced audio in the projector.
One gripe: when the unit goes asleep due to non-activity, the screen goes blank, but it does not shut off the lamp. This seems a bit of an oversight that it could shutoff the bulb and save the bulb lifespan.
All-in-all, pretty happy with it.
I previously ordered a projector that claimed 7,000 lumens and cost about 250, but when it arrived I was really disappointed with the picture. Then I researched in more detail and found that ‘lumens’ are very different to ‘Ansi lumens’. As a general rule, 1,000 ANSI lumens equals about 7,000 lumens. I sent the other one back and bought the Viewsonic. This model is over 4,000 Ansi lumens and far better built, hence the huge difference in picture quality. It even works well on a 20 feet inflatable screen in the garden at dusk.
I ordered the px748-4k for gaming and occasional movies. The input lag is negligible, so that’s good. Color accuracy is okay, but in HDR mode, there is A LOT of banding. Black levels are the worst I have ever seen on any projector EVER. this is my 5th projector. I use a .8 gain matte grey screen, and blacks are light grey at best. I am not surprised as it’s to ve expected with DLP projectors, but this is especially bad.
Anyway, all in all, i dock a star for terrible black levels, but otherwise decent value for the money.
For daytime with lots of ambient light, good option. For dedicated theatre with light control, not so much.
The unit is very bright. I don’t have to close my windows if I’m looking at high contrast things like text. Color isn’t maybe as good as more expensive projectors, but I found it to be fine. I found that using 1080p resolution for desktop use was better than 4k as the pixels are a bit fuzzy at that resolution which makes text not look as good. This is due to the pixel shifting tech used (any 4k projector sub $1600-2000 will use this). The screen is very detailed at 4k showing movies and games, however, and the pixel shifting kind of adds a bit of an anti-aliasing effect. I dare say I might actually prefer a pixel shifting projector for computer use as it lets you decide between 4k 60hz and 240hz 1080p with both modes having their own strengths. I feel I have two monitors I like for different reasons which is cool. There is just a slight perceptible lag on 4k, but its really not bad. I don’t notice any at 1080p 240hz. And it really does go that high, the difference between 120 and 240hz is noticeable, and it looks really good at the high refresh rate. I actually prefer it over my 144hz 1440p monitor. I don’t think this would be good enough for esports compared to a 240hz monitor, but its very close. Remember to use the game mode.
Overall it works better than I expected as a computer monitor and I’m happy with it and feel it was a good value for the money.
Other thoughts
-I wish the power plug was longer. I’m not going to install this in ceiling, and I had to use an extension cord for it to reach down to a plug that is only a few feet horizontally away.
-The remote is a bit old fashioned looking. Not a big deal to me but I think ViewSonic should update the design.
-Sometimes the unit makes a strange whirling sound that is annoying. Usually it doesn’t and it has done it less as I have used it. Its not the fan, it sounds like something is spinning that is not lubricated. When this isn’t happening I found the fan noise to be fairly low and constant.
-Its very easy to switch between modes like normal and eco, needing only one button to be hit. This is really nice since the bulb has a lifespan. If I know I’m going to step away from the computer for a few minutes or am going to just be looking at text I can switch it to super eco in two seconds.
-SuperEco at 240hz flickers, changing to a different refresh rate fixes this.
Some tips:
-Dynamic Eco is basically as good as normal in terms of color and brightness at least when its showing a bright image. That’s my main setting. I think it just dims when the screen is dark. It is better than eco (but not super eco) in terms of bulb life according to the manual.
-Make sure your resolution is 1920 by 1080 if you want 240hz. If its 1920 by 1200 if will default to 120hz.
-if the projector is located above you, make sure you turn the projector upside down. It will need next to no keystone correction that way which keeps the image at native.
