I have to say I am thoroughly impressed. Pretty much a WOW experience from the second I turned it on.
Bright and vivid colors, even in a lit room. 4000 lumens in 4k is pretty hard to beat at this price point.
Believe me when I say that you get way more than you pay for with the PX748-4K. I had an Epson home cinema and this blows anything out of the water in the $2k and under category.
Don’t hesitate to buy if you are looking. My Xbox looks amazing and on screen play is smooth with low latency enabled on the projector.
I bought a tv tuner box and this thing is amazing for watching any sports game on the big screen.
I project onto a 110″ screen and have a semi lit basement unless it’s night time. Beautiful picture night or day!
El proyector tiene una calidad espectacular, lo malo es su bajo volumen del sonido, con el precio que tiene debera tener mejor calidad de sonido, tambin lo complicado que es calibrar los colores.
The projector is fine. Does what it should. Installation seemed easy; I had someone else do it. The projector is really small compared to my old one. The picture is way better.
I really liked using this projector. It was my first ever and having 4K @ 60Hz was awesome. I played mostly games on it but did watch a few Netflix shows on it. I do wish it had 120Hz but I know that would bump up the price of this laser projector. Returned it because I currently no longer needed it. Still recommend it though.
Colors are great and the brightness is strong enough for me to watch during the day in a room with 2 windows. I can’t believe how quality this thing feels for less than a grand! Pleasantly surprised.
So I purchased the ViewSonic px 701 4k projector and I was blown away how small the unit was. So I plugged in my Xbox series X to play some games and I noticed right away how stunning the image is!
Then this happens … I’ll play a game then exit the game then I’ll press the Xbox home button on the controller and then the whole wall would turn green then it’ll go back to ViewSonic splash logo screen while it’ll search for a signal then I see a 4 second visual glitch and it’ll return to Xbox home screen? I may have a defective unit. Therefore I called ViewSonic and they mentioned the projector may have a color wheel problem and it’s not supposed to do that. So now Im disappointed I have to return it for a refund and possibly have to purchase another unit….. What a shame as much I really like it then this happens to me!
seule bog le vissage pour fixation sont en dessous du projecteur au lieu d etre sur le dessus
I didn’t purchase this specifically for the 3D feature, but I was hoping it had it. Nowhere in the Amazon description, nor on the Projector Central site does the term “3D” even come up. In fact, many reviews say it does not have it. HOWEVER, I just purchased the PX701-4K and it absolutely DOES SUPPORT 3D!!! I didn’t have to do any firmware updates. I just put in a 3D Blu-ray in my 3D Blu-ray player and it worked!
As far as the 4K goes, it is beautiful! It is the pixel-shifting process, but it is still a huge improvement on 1080p. AND I projected it on a 250″ screen and it looks glorious! This projector is totally worth the price.
Love the projector used as my living room tv on a 100 inch screen it has great image and shows up well in a sunny room but in the end I sent it back and got an 85 inch 4K tv my living room is a little to bright and I wanted a sharper pic but if your room can be darkened in the day this thing rocks
Looking to spend a “k” on something worthwhile? Look no further.
Got sun glasses? Yer gonna need’em!!
I thought “eh, 4000 lumens, brighter than my old one but who’s gonna care?”
Um, mom will. If your not careful the Viewsonic logo will be etched into the paint. May look like a watermark to some, but mom knows her paint!
Or maybe get a screen.
Are you a gamer? Don’t know why LTT hasn’t reviewed this yet. This projector should be standard equipment for sim racing!! You can turn down the brightness and such. Has a lot of settings to fiddle with. And run directly to the video card and make it your primary monitor. Then you’ll unleash “The (video) BEAST!”
There’s just no comparison in my book. I went from a decent $150 projector to a $1000 one, and a bottle of sunscreen. I’d be careful viewing outdoor scenes with sunshine in them!
Collect those magnifying glasses from them kids too!! They’ll have a heyday!
If ya got the cash DO IT!
First things first, because there is no mention anywhere of 3D support in the specs or product description there are a lot of comments out there stating that the PX701-4K isn’t capable of 3D. This is incorrect. It does in fact support 3D and it looks great! The older versions that were initially shipped did not support 3D. However, since then ViewSonic has made the necessary hardware & firmware upgrades to correct this. Now that the 3D speculation is out of the way let me talk about the projector. It’s a great 4K projector considering the price tag. True, it’s not native 4K but it does produce 3840×2160 pixels when inputting a 4K signal into the projector. The projector does this. by what’s called “Pixel Shifting “. This is done to expand the native 1080p resolution to produce an effective 4K image on the screen. So, basically, you’re still getting 4K resolution without the much higher price tag you would pay for a native 4K projector. When you play 4K content the projector also displays 3840×2160 on it’s display on the screen. Another nice thing is that it supports HDR & HLG. However, it does not support Dolby Vision which is not a dealbreaker for me. The 3200 ANSI lumens produce a nice bright and vivid picture. I also really like the auto keystone feature. I have the projector sitting on a coffee table which is much lower than my screen and I didn’t have to adjust anything. The projector automatically adjusted the image perfectly. The fan is pretty quiet as well and If you have a surround system you won’t hear it at all. I haven’t tried gaming on it yet but if the specs are correct this should be great for gaming too! Overall I’m satisfied with the projector.
I upgraded my projector for this one as I wanted to be able to watch NHL games with more clarity and smoothness for the speed of the game. It will never match the sharpness of a TV but I have to say that I am pleasantly surprised at how good a job it does. I am happily watching NHL games using this new projector.
I currently purchased this projector and an optoma 1080hdrx both were amazing projectors both are solid but this one once I tweaked the colours in settings is far more superior the crisp 4k image and colours I am getting with this are insane when you first buy it it’s set on an ugly picture mode that gives it a yellow tint but once you customize the colours with the software provided it destroys the other projectorsm I compared the image quality side by side with the high end 1080p even the contrast was amazing once tweaked very happy with my purchase it also has auto Keystone which is a bonus thank you viewsonic for making an amazing produc
We have this setup at a 200″ diagonal screen size on drywall painted light grey/silver, and our primary use is gaming with an Xbox Series X and Nintendo Switch. The picture quality is excellent in 4K. 1080p content looks fine, but I am longing for getting all NFL games in 4K. Literally Madden 23 is prettier to look at than the actual NFL broadcast because of my lack of getting the NFL in 4K. We’ve watched a couple movies, both 1080p and 4K, and I am happy with this projector in terms of picture quality, brightness, and no lag for gaming.
This is a fantastic projector for the money. Got mine for $776 after sale and $50 coupon. Arrived in 2 days. Installed hanging from the ceiling in the basement mancave. Connected this PX701-4K to a Roku Ultra HDR and routing through Sony 5.1 Dolby HDR A/V receiver. Movie watching is at a whole other level.
Menus are very simple and straightforward. One if the nicest features is the info menu which shows what resolution you are receiving (1080 or 4K) and whether or not you are getting HDR or stndard video. The biggest thing to keep in mind is the entire signal path has to support 4k with HDR. If one piece (cable, amp, source) does not support this resolution format you will not get the best picture.
The sample video is a 4k HDR video from YouTube projected on an older 130″ screen that is 10ft wide. Picture quality is crisp and colors re vibrant. No regrets with this purchase. If there is one slight con it would be the fan noise. It is not loud, however is noticeable. Since I use for Monday Night Football and movies, just turn up the volume a bit and it will be drowned out.
Well done Viewsonic!
This would have been a 5 Stars projector if the first one I received was not defective.
I was really impressed with the picture quality of this projector once I got it working. Which makes it a worthy replacement of my previous Mitsubishi DLP HD projector.
Unfortunately, it was clear that I received a defective unit !!!!!!!!! This was clear to me within minutes of plugging in a 4K Apple TV unit as the source. I immediately heard a loud grinding sound. stopped everything unplugged everything and restarted… The same grinding started again. It was so loud and actually louder than my coffee beans grinder-No kidding!
I removed the HDMI and connected a brand new 4K Apple TV that I had intended for this projector. It seemed to work fine and allowed me to adjust the image to my taste. A lot of control over color, picture quality. Overall excellent picture quality in 4k bright and detailed.
On the first unit that was defective, there was somewhat a loud flickering sound -similar to an old 16mm projector running a film that was not as loud as the grinding sound I experienced with the first Apple TV I connected. It seemed really strange. When I pause the show, the sound stops, when I resume playing the show, the sound returns. I had to send it back and repurchase it again. I will update this review once I receive the replacement.
Pros:
-Super bright picture – that you can watch even with some daylight or soft dim light in the room.
-High Quality picture
-Beautiful colors
-Smooth gradients and grayscales
-Good on screen menu
-Responsive remote (if you want the backlit version of this remote, it comes only with the PX 748 model)
-Smooth zoom and focus ring for easy adjustment
-Very Sharp picture from corner to corner
-Auto Keystone feature – saves a lot of time and effort.
-3 years warranty.
Cons:
Defective unit – makes ne worry about quality control
***Update 12/15/22
I received my PX-701 4K replacement! Very quiet fan which confirmed that the first one I received was defective! Stunning picture quality on a good quality 100″ screen ! I attached several photos from Apple TV as the source with 100″ electric motorized screen by Elite Screens
I do recommend this projector! It is a bargain for a 4K projector under $1000.
***Update 12/28/2022. I’m truly in love with this projector, specially after testing 5 different projectors from different brands. In that $900 range, I haven’t seen a single 4K capable projector that comes even close to this 3200 lumens brightness and picture quality. I highly recommend it!
I really wanted to love this projector but I am so disappointed in the shadows on each side of the projection. There is nothing in the way and no matter the setting adjustments, the shadows are always there. Viewsonic is my go to in projection but they have failed to reply to my concern with this projector.

Very happy with this purchase. Video quality is excellent, even though I’m still shooting at a wall. Great for high quality 4K image and very fast refresh rate, looks amazing. I bought a long 4K HDMI cable and connect with a receiver and it works great!
After lots of digging, I found it to be comparable with much more expensive 4K units for less. You do need to watch out for placement, as the image can’t zoom or shift much, and put time in to figure out settings, but you will be well rewarded once it’s all in place!
Just briliant projector. Im well happy with that got this on amazons prime day. So even better. You never ever will get 130inch 4k tv for that price. Easy to set up quality is good picture is smuth and bright even in day time. Recommend
I have noticed that there are several different projectors reviewed for this so just to confirm that my review is for the PX748-4K, 4,000 ANSI Lumens 4K UHD
THis is the latest ViewSonic 4K Projector.
I was blown away at the brightness and image quality of having a 4k image at 120 inches..
Really impressed with the results of this 4k projector. It runs in a native 4k (unlike the PX701 projector that several people have reviewed in here!)
I had been looking at lots of 4k projectors over the last 12 months but this one suddenly became available on the market in 2022 and after some research and youtube videos I could not resist the purchase.. Very happy with Amazon offering me 12 Months interest free too!
Only downside is the noise.. but I have expected this from all projectors.. this one is not too noisy, at around 30db but again you cannot avoid projector noise (especially DLP projectors) I am in no way put off at this noise thought as it is only noticeable in quiet scenes of the movie.. but for me not a deal breaker.
Really handy 1.3x Optical Zoom too.. this is great for projector positioning as it gives you more range on where you can position the projector.
also 240Hz Refresh Rate!! at 1080p that’s really impressive.. and 4.2ms input lag, makes this projector a gamers dream. its lag quicker than my 4k TV ! – Its native 4k Refresh Rate is still a staggering 120hz
Projector has some very useful image correcting features where you can adjust each corner of the image separately to achieve that perfect image fit. This really is useful and once set up I could not notice any image distortion.
Keystone is perfect too with Vertical and Horizontal – again this was also a deal maker for me.. as again its keystone image adjustment. Perfect !
Just check the online reviews.. they rate this projector highly.
I would definitely recommend this projector if you are looking at a 4k one.. its miles cheaper than others that have less features.
There is one downside…. there is no TV software (android software) so this projector is not like a smart TV.. it just displays an image, but again I just use an amazon firestick.
Also this has the best built in speaker I have heard from all the projectos I have owned.. Again its not great sound as its a tiny speaker, but its loud and does the job.
Pros
* Relatively Low Price
* 120Hz 4k Refresh
* 240Hz 1080p Refresh
* 4.2ms Input lag
* 1.3x Optical Zoom
* Horizontal AND Vertical Keystone Correction
* 4000 Ansi Lumens
* USB C input/output
Cons
* 30db noise
* No Built in Android TV
Would recommend this projector..
UPDATE:
Nearly 6 months of usage and nothing has changed from my initial review. Still a worthy Native 4k projector. Highly recommended.
Looked for a reasonably priced name brand 4K projector. So far we’re pleased. Set up a new basement Rec Room for an 80 to 100 inch display over a fireplace. The instructions and zoom lens got us to the right location pretty easily. Projection directly on a slightly off white painted wall worked out fine. The 4K and non-4K content works for us. It’s usable during the day with room darkening blinds but really shines after dark. We blue tooth to an older Bose sound system with an adapter using a Firestick 4K as the native projector is really a plug in setup which won’t work from the middle of a ceiling. It is like having our own theatre now!
Recommended!
For under $1,000 it is a great projector. The focus lever doesn’t move smoothly so takes a few minutes to get it where you want it. Once everything is set up it throws a great picture.
3 months after owning, got a white pixel. It is still under warranty and their response was quick, but the customer is responsible for paying to ship the item back ($30 for me with insurance).
Upgraded from a 1080p wimius, which was quite frankly useless, as is wimius support. I use this mainly for gaming (ps5 gt7) and the picture quality and responsiveness is stunning, I’m honestly blown away. I do have the curtains closed because I’m a hermit, but even on super eco mode it not only looks great but it’s also really quiet compared to the last one. The sound is pretty good with the built in speakers but if you’re going to spend this much on a projector you’ll probably be using an amp anyway. It does make the room hot… but with autumn approaching that’s an added bonus. Uhd netflix/ prime content really is very good. Ceiling mounted at 3.5metres it fills my 120 inch screen. Best present I’ve bought myself in a long time. I don’t think it’s true 4k because it uses pixel switching, but it sure does look 4k. Not sure I’d use it to replace a telly on a daily basis.. but I don’t watch telly. For gaming and movies it is superb. The remote is basic, but once set up I honestly only use the on and off button. I’m just hoping it’s going to last a good few years because it’s not cheap. So far, I can’t fault it.
Bought this to create a gaming/ theatre room for my ps5. So far it’s been excellent. It supports full 4k 60fps. W HDR Or 1080p 120 fps. Only gripe i have is that the neon green in case as the FIFA logo is much more yellow. But besides that excellent projector. Especially for the money
EDIT: I have since set up the colour profile perfectly. For people saying its not saving. They should probably use V Color Tuner. you can accurately set up each individual profile and save it. Through the PC
The projector looks pretty good out of the box. I’d like to be able to tweak color but the software for doing this is only PC compatible and they do not support Mac. Most Colors are pretty good but magenta is dark and not accurate when wet up beside a Flanders reference monitor. I make a living as a colorist so have a pretty good handle on how things should look. Definitely worth the money paid.
Possibly the most impressive piece of tech I’ve ever ended up buying from Amazon. The picture quality has to be seen to be believed. I tried taking a few shots with my phone, but the image quality of the photos were so misleading in comparison to how it is to actually watch something on the projector that I’ve ended up not including them. The fan is almost whisper quiet too. The only niggle, if anything, is that the onboard speaker really isn’t fit for purpose, but there’s plenty of options to connect your own sound system so that doesn’t detract much.
It doesn’t seem to have ARC, or at least I can’t get it to work.
Black levels are not great, especially with default settings. Turning brightness up to 52 helped a lot with being able to see things in the shadows. Turning BrilliantColor down (to ~7 for HDR, ~1 for SDR) helped keep things from looking washed out. The throw distance is long enough that it shouldn’t be in front of you for fully immersive size so I’ll probably need to do a ceiling mount. At 120″ in a dark room at night It seems a bit too bright even on eco mode since the blacks look gray and bright HDR whites can make me squint. A bigger or lower gain screen will probably improve it. I just got a cheap $20 screen from Amazon and I think the gain is around 1.0? It’s close to $500 cheaper then the next cheapest 4k projector, so overall I’m very happy with it. I did have a poor experience with a 3rd party amazon seller sending the wrong item, but when I finally got the right version it’s been great.
I finally decided to buy a projector for hunker-at-home movies during corona times.
This 4K projector, @ ~$900, was a great balance of cost vs functionality. @ 3200 lumens, it’s very decent brightness when the sun goes under, and decent enough in daytime.
I chose not to buy a unit with advanced audio processing since I intended to use the projector with firestick. I also purchased a vizio 5.1 sound bar and use bluetooth to connect to the audio, and it’s been great. The down side of using bluetooth is that you do have to touch the sound bar remote to get it connected. however, saved hundreds of $$ w/o the advanced audio in the projector.
One gripe: when the unit goes asleep due to non-activity, the screen goes blank, but it does not shut off the lamp. This seems a bit of an oversight that it could shutoff the bulb and save the bulb lifespan.
All-in-all, pretty happy with it.
This is the best full-sized projector I own, but also the most expensive one. Can’t compare it to higher-end projectors, but if you’re considering to buy one of the cheap alternatives with similar specs, my advice is simple – don’t. Save yourself some time and money, just do the research, find what you need and buy a proper projector. Many things to like on this one. It doesn’t get hot or noisy – I can fall asleep next to one. The remote control is perfect.
Upgraded to 4k and delighted with this. Picture quality is great and really easy to use. Tried a 4k Epsom but this is far quieter and has a greater range for adjustment. Really recommend this
Love that the projector has a USB-C port on it which makes things so much smoother & easier in the modern world. Could not find many projectors with the USB-C port. All had very old legacy ports, even recently released projectors.
Wish there was another USB-C dedicated for charging the device. Hope with the new PD3.1 standard that can deliver 240W of power over USB-C, this will become possible with the next generation.
It lives up to its description. Beautiful sharp and powerful image. This is a great machine.
I previously ordered a projector that claimed 7,000 lumens and cost about 250, but when it arrived I was really disappointed with the picture. Then I researched in more detail and found that ‘lumens’ are very different to ‘Ansi lumens’. As a general rule, 1,000 ANSI lumens equals about 7,000 lumens. I sent the other one back and bought the Viewsonic. This model is over 4,000 Ansi lumens and far better built, hence the huge difference in picture quality. It even works well on a 20 feet inflatable screen in the garden at dusk.
I ordered the px748-4k for gaming and occasional movies. The input lag is negligible, so that’s good. Color accuracy is okay, but in HDR mode, there is A LOT of banding. Black levels are the worst I have ever seen on any projector EVER. this is my 5th projector. I use a .8 gain matte grey screen, and blacks are light grey at best. I am not surprised as it’s to ve expected with DLP projectors, but this is especially bad.
Anyway, all in all, i dock a star for terrible black levels, but otherwise decent value for the money.
For daytime with lots of ambient light, good option. For dedicated theatre with light control, not so much.
I purchased this (and a screen) to be able to take on the road for demonstrations and presentations. I don’t know anything about projectors, so take this review with a grain of salt.
The positives: First, it fits in my (moderately large) backpack with room for my laptop and associated cords and cables. Big plus. Secondly, it doesn’t have to be used so that the angle of projection is perpendicular to the screen surface: the projection can be warped somewhat so that the image appears to have been projected along a perpendicular axis even at an angle. Thirdly, you can make out colours quite well in a normally-lit office. Finally, it accepts USB-c input, so if your laptop doesn’t have HDMI out, you don’t need to faff about with adaptors (which helps avoid looking unprepared).
The negatives: First, you do need quite a big backpack – it’s not portable in a strict sense (nor is it advertised as such, so it’s not a criticism of the device, just it’s suitability to my use case). Secondly, the mechanism by which you adjust the image is tricky (at least I found it to be: this is the first time I’ve used a projector rather than having “the AV guy” at hand to compensate for my incompetence): I’d allow 10 minutes after positioning the projector and before presenting to get this adjustment right. Thirdly, the focus is hard to get exactly right–for me this is not a big issue, as I don’t have text-heavy presentations (mostly charts), but if you plan on people being able to read smallish text, give yourself a good couple of minutes extra to fiddle with it.
It has a whole bunch of functionality I haven’t used, and about which I can’t comment, but I imagine it’s quite good.
I’m actually surprised how good this is for gaming. I know it’s advertised as a gaming projector but really didn’t think I’d use it over the TV. I’m positioned about 4m away on a 120″ screen and gaming is really good. No it’s not as bright as the TV but I only really game at night so it’s not the end of the world as its dark enough.
Watching in day light isn’t great. I have a window measuring 120cm x 210cm about 1-2m from the screen to the left of it and any time before 8pm (currently british summer), if you value image quality is pointless. Once I have blinds in the window I’m sure it will be fine but I avoid daylight watching at the mo because it’s just too washed out for me. Once it’s a bit darker though its spot on.
Don’t bother with SD picture (depending on screen size) on 120″ SD images are appalling. Go FHD or 4k though and things are so much BETTER and make sense again.
Pretty easy to set up. Definitely fiddle with picture settings a bit. You can get so much more background detail etc when you play about compared to out of the box settings. Colours looked really weird on sport out of the box too. Just pause an image on the screen and see what looks best to you. Overall very happy at 700.
The fans are very loud, and even worse there was a high pitched whine (coil whine?) which was intolerable. Not sure if it was a fault with the one I had, but ended up returning sadly. The picture itself was outstanding and worked well with Xbox One X.
I was looking to get a new projector to upgrade a Benq w1070+ which although amazing for its time needed bulb changes every 4000 hours. I had looked for months for a projector that had longer bulb life and better brightness for daytime use. I looked at many models from different brands and liked Viewsonics x10 4k offering using the LED bulb to remove need to change bulb for 30000. However, when I trialled this projector its brightness was not enough for my needs. I saw this upgrade to the PX747 4K and so far have been blown away! It is projected onto a matt grey wall no screen and the image quality and response times for games is unmatched- the picture quality and brightness even on super eco which gives bulb 20000 hours is brighter than my old Benq with a new bulb. The self adjusting keystone was flawless and films now have a detail and deep colours I have not seen before even when running at 1080p rather than 4K due to improved blacks and contrast compared to old projector- The 4K media I have trialed so far makes the image appear as if your really in the places projected- only gripe as with any projector is speakers are not great but no one uses these do they? hooked up to amp and decent 5.1 speakers and job done! for the price this will not be beaten for a long while!
